Expecting twins in 2020?

Is anyone else expecting twins (or more!) in 2020? I just found out I am. They’ll be our first. Technically due in April, although reality means probably March. Would love to share with other mums in the same situation as I’m now reading a whole new set of baby books and articles!

@Ladybug84 indeed! Not quite sure how it is going to work. Oh wow @Jemstar33, I think we were maybe on the same ttc thread? How long are you expecting to be in hospital?

Jemstar33 · 28/04/2020 16:44

Oh really @Happydaysandhappysmiles sorry, I'm blaming baby brain! How lovely that we're now going in on the same day!
Hopefully just two days but all depends on babies. How about you? Xxx

Robs20 · 29/04/2020 03:07

We made it home! Started a strict feeding regime on Sunday to help babies gain weight. Lots of conflicting advice in the hospital though, neonatal drs advising to use bottles with expressed milk or formula (we were doing bf and babies were falling asleep), whereas midwives were really pushing bf.

I’ve requested to join the fb group @Ladybug84!

Wishing56 · 29/04/2020 08:05

Yay! Bet that is a relief.
I found some midwives to be really judgey when I made the switch to formula and they kept pushing me to try BF again but I knew what my body was capable of (or not capable of as it was) and stood my ground.

You just do whatever you want to. Whether that be formula or EBF.

Has your milk come in now as it can be delayed following a c section?

Jemstar33 · 29/04/2020 08:35

So glad you're home @robs20 you'll feel so much better!

What regime have you gone for?

I agree @Wishing56, mine aren't even here yet and I feel the pressure to bf. I'll do whatever they take to though, I'm not going to be so hard on myself if bf doesn't work.

Today I'm to start encouraging my flow, I've got some syringes in case I get any colostrum through! Xxx

Hi everyone. Expecting DCDA twins, due date 5th July. I posted this in the multiples thread yesterday but had no response so wanted to see if anyone here has experienced similar.

Looking for some reassurance from anyone that's experienced similar. Expecting dcda twins and twin 2 is measuring smaller than twin 1. Had a scan at 30+2 today and twin 1 is 3lb 4oz and twin 2 is 2lb 13oz. Twin 2 also has a high PI (over 95th centile) so I'm back for that to be checked on next week. It was high a couple of weeks ago and then normal the week after. I'm worried because twin 2 is just below the 5th centile. Any advice?!

Ladybug84 · 29/04/2020 12:04

@BristolBones Hi! We have similar scenarios then, the difference is that no issues have been raised in my case and I've just been booked for a normal scan in 4 weeks. I'm due 3rd July with b/g twins so DCDA. I went yesterday (30+4) for a scan, clinic checks and consultant app. Boy is 3lbs 3oz and girl 2lbs 15oz, the consultant said that she was not concerned as the graphs show good growth patterns and the difference between twins is 7.3% (they worry if it's >20%). Are yours b/g as well? Sometimes it's just a gender thing, the boys tend to be bigger. Also take into account that the measurements are not very accurate. In my case the girl's head was 95th percentile and her legs were on the 5th percentile on the last scan at 25 weeks, however she was behaving better yesterday and the measurements were a bit closer to the average (head down to 47th percentile, that goes to say how much difference a few millimetres can change things). They also measured flow through the cord, to make sure they're getting enough nutrients. I don't think you should worry much about it, and just take the extra checks as a precaution. After all it's another chance to see your babies ☺️ xx

Ladybug84 · 29/04/2020 12:04

@Robs20 great news! See you over there ☺️ xx

Ladybug84 · 29/04/2020 12:08

@BristolBones just curious, are you getting weekly checks? In my area they have cut down growth scans, I have had only 2 between 20 and 30 weeks

BristolBones · 29/04/2020 12:33

@Ladybug84 Thanks for the reply! We're really close then - it's also b/g twins but it's actually the boy who is the smaller one. He was following the 7th percentile the past few scans but dropped below the 5th yesterday. They said as long as he continues to put on then they're happy but want to check that the cord resistance isn't causing restricted growth. He's so active at the scans that they always struggle getting the cord Doppler reading - they scanned him first last week and got a normal reading so maybe he was less agitated then. At the moment I'm being scanned weekly for the cord resistance and fluid (this was an issue but is normal now) and every 2 weeks for growth - the consultant said that this is because they're on the lower centiles.

Ladybug84 · 29/04/2020 13:08

@BristolBones well, it's good they're keeping an eye on it and they haven't dismissed it, especially with everything else going on right on. I've attached a table with the estimated weight for DCDA I found online yesterday after my appointment (I'm still guilty of checking everything with google even after speaking to a professional doctor 🤦🏻‍♀️)

Not long now for us, these weeks will fly by 😊 xx

Expecting twins in 2020?
BristolBones · 29/04/2020 14:05

Ha, I found the exact same table yesterday! I'm terrible for googling things until I find one that suits me Grin Yep, not long at all now - are you feeling prepared? X

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 29/04/2020 14:11

@jemstar33 I had to name change as part of sorting it all out so no way you could have realised that 😀. Yes I gather three is the norm for this type of twins but my consultant reckons that I will want to go home after 2 days. All so unknown isn't if. Are you like me, in there without partner (except for the birth)?

Jemstar33 · 29/04/2020 14:22

Hi @BristolBones welcome. I'm also having b/g twins and my boy is slightly smaller. At my 29 week scan they were around 2.5lbs each and no issues raised.
Girl around 47th percentile boy is slightly lower. Then at my 33 scan boy was measuring a lot smaller, had a scan two weeks later and they said it was a blip with the scan and they were basically measuring the same. It doesn't half make you worry!!

@Happydaysandhappysmiles were you on the clomid thread? Defo an unknown so it's really hard to know how much to pack. Yeh, same here, he's just allowed for the birth and hopefully a few hours afterwards. Where are you based?
I'm really hoping to be home over the weekend. Xxx

Wishing56 · 29/04/2020 15:04

@BristolBones i had MCDA twins but there was a week when my twin 2 was a lot bigger than twin 1 (about 12% difference) but 2 weeks later they were back to within 2% of each other. That week was just a blip and I think its where she was wriggling so much so didnt get the most accurate readings. Hopefully next scan the difference will become less but they will just keep a close eye and as long as he keeps gaining then sure it will be fine.

You do have to take the scans measurements with a pinch of salt as 3 days before my due date they estimated my twin 1 at 6lb 2oz and she was 5lb 5oz and twin 2 at 6lb 7oz and she was 6lb 3oz.

Ladybug84 · 29/04/2020 17:04

@BristolBones it depends on the day 😂 some days I'm excited and can't wait to meet them, other days a bit scared and overwhelmed 😅 xx

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 30/04/2020 08:54

@jemstar33 no just the normal one. In London, you?

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 01/05/2020 12:32

We are going to need some way of distinguishing between our babies. What do people think about tiny knitted bracelets on their ankles? I can't crochet and I worry about nail varnish being absorbed (and also me spilling it everywhere!!)

ChampooPapi · 03/05/2020 13:46

Is it ok if I join you all? I'm only just over ten weeks so I'm due the end of November (well I'll be 40 weeks the end of November so aware it could be a bit sooner then that when they make an appearance)

I had a scan at 8 weeks because of bleeding for about a week and instead of confirming the worst, they confirmed it was twins. Each in their own sacks.

One measured 8 weeks and the other measured 7.5

I've got a nipt test Thursday when I'll be 11 weeks, I'm absolutely bricking it.

I am.so worried they will have dissapeared, the last few weeks have been hard going 😣

Slinkerbell · 04/05/2020 12:51

@ChampooPapi

Congratulations on the twins news!
Did they figure out what had caused the bleeding? Hopefully it's resolved now.

I know it's nerve racking waiting for the test but it's such a bloody relief once it's done. Whatever the results are, the worst part is the not knowing.

I had my nuchal scan last week at 13 weeks and found out (shock horror) it was DiDi twins. Totally blew me away, but thankfully all seems happy and healthy so far. Certainly it all makes sense now with the level of morning sickness/migraines I've been having. People do keep telling me it gets better...

Now finding myself trying to get my head around it all and fervently researching all aspects of twin care: tandem feeding, Co-bedding etc. Confused

Bubble29 · 05/05/2020 22:38

Hi all, we had our 20 week scan last week and now need to start getting prepared, we've been told to have everything in order by 30 weeks in the event our twins decide to come early.

What size baby grows are you going for? I'm assuming they're going to be early (before 38 weeks) so would you opt for tiny baby or newborn? I'm guessing 0-3 will be too big!

ChampooPapi · 06/05/2020 06:35

Hi @Slinkerbell , and huge congr on your news of twins at your twelve week scan. It is such a blessing but I know the reality of twin feeding, and dare I mention a twin poonami!, Does give the frozen cave man fear, but that first year goes so quickly and suddenly they will be toddlers playing together and it'll be so great having two the same age. They sleep so much as newborns as well. My worry was twin weaning, god I hate the weaning phase! When your breastfeeding/bottle feeding and making food as well. It feels like a round the clock feeding purgatory. But even that phase is only six months really while they adapt to it all.

Is it your first pregnancy?

I am currently really worrying. I have had terrible morning sickness from week 5 until a few days ago (week ten) and now it's almost completely gone. I know about the plancenta's taking over an fall that but I am so anxious about my scan tomorrow. I am convinced that the babies are going to have gone, I have been really struggling the last few days, I just don't feel pregnant at all any more.

It's a harmony test tomorrow in the morning so at least I won't have to wait all day. Today is going to be really hard, I just feel on my gut is all over.

I have had a missed miscarriage last October at my 12 week scan so I am obviously concentrating on that a lot.

I will.of course update tomorrow when I find out. I had a scan at 8 weeks and all was well so that really got me through the last few weeks but with my symptoms going I'm really worried 😞

Wishing56 · 06/05/2020 07:09

@Bubble29 i was the same and got my bag ready for 30weeks. I was convinced they were going to come at 34weeks but they kept me waiting until my planned c section date at 36+4.
I took both tiny baby and newborn to hospital but they didnt need newborn. They were in tiny baby for weeks. They are only just in 0-3months and they are 3months old.

Wishing56 · 06/05/2020 07:16

@ChampooPapi congratulations on the twin news! I am sure everything will be fine. Keep us updated. My symptoms went away around week 9 for a few days and then came back with a vengeance!

I feel like I have finally got into the swing of the newborn stage and now the twin weaning stage seems to be fast approaching (my girls are 3months)... whole new chapter to get my head around.

In some ways I am glad to have had twins first as I don't know any different in terms of what it would have been like to deal with a singleton and now twins.
I say first but i am not having any more after this 😂

Slinkerbell · 06/05/2020 11:43

@ChampooPapi
Agreed, my sickness eased off around week 9/10 but came back again. I am having only occasional sickness now in week 14. I kept saying to my partner that apart from sickness, I could have imagined the pregnancy because nothing felt very tangible. It certainly looked a lot more tangible on the scan 😊 I am sure everything will be fine. I was also convinced that I would get terrible results from the 12 week 'combined test' but everything was looking brilliant.

I've been having nightmares about stairs. Like what if I need to get the twins up a set of stairs, what do I do? Can't exactly hoik one out and leave them at the top of the stairs while you collect the other and buggy. This is a very relevant fear as we are planning on moving to Spain before the birth, where there are loads of old buildings and access is pretty crap.
