Expecting twins in 2020?

Is anyone else expecting twins (or more!) in 2020? I just found out I am. They’ll be our first. Technically due in April, although reality means probably March. Would love to share with other mums in the same situation as I’m now reading a whole new set of baby books and articles!

@robs20 I'll be exactly 37 weeks! Strange about the steroids!
That's nice, this weather has been amazing. How's the ward, is it really hot? I'm considering taking out my fluffy dressing gown lol.

Thanks @ladybug84 yes, I'll join! Xxx

Wishing56 · 22/04/2020 19:09

@Robs20 good luck! Hope it goes ahead for you tomorrow.

@Jemstar33 wards are normally hot. Was boiling in January, i took just a thin dressing gown

jemstar33 · 22/04/2020 19:33

I'll have to dig out a thin one that isn't white!
How are you getting on @Wishing56 xxx

Robs20 · 22/04/2020 20:23

@Jemstar33 it is BOILING! I have a fan and hd to sleep in a maternity bra/ no t shirt last night because it was so hot! Most important things to remember are lipsalve (the heat has dried my lips out so much) and snacks!

@Ladybug84 yes I would love to! Fb or whatsapp, whatever is easiest :)

@Wishing56 thank you! A couple of today’s midwives have just come to say good luck for tomorrow so seems like it might be happening. How are you getting on?

Wishing56 · 22/04/2020 20:42

@Jemstar33 & @robs20 doing well thank you. The girls are 12weeks tomorrow and getting big. Getting lots of smiles and chatting from them. They are starting to take interest in toys which is fun to see.
They have been fussy today so bit relentless but my OH is off from tomorrow so can help me out as they have their 12week jabs so hoping to get couple of hours where I can just rest.

@robs20 are you on the main ward or have a side room? How are you feeling? I can't remember are these your first babies?

@ladybug84 i would love to join too if thats ok. Only twin mums really understand the full extent of what you are going through.

Ladybug84 · 22/04/2020 23:19

@Robs20 nice little date with your husband before the arrival of the twins ☺️ I can't believe how nice the weather is being! I hope May is just as nice when I'll be on ML. Only 13days left at work 👏🏼 hope you have a good rest tonight before the big day ❤️

@Wishing56 lovely to hear from you and to see your girls! They're gorgeous, love the little dresses, so cute! I think so too, I've been able to share this pregnancy journey with a couple of friends (one had her boy early at 34 weeks only a few days ago and the other one is waiting for her baby to come out any day now), but I do feel like I'm playing on a different League.

Ok, so I've created a FB group called 2020 Twins (very original, I know! 😅 name suggestions accepted if you have a better one). First time I do this so bear with me if I get something wrong. It's a private group so only members can see posts and other members. To join you'll have to reply one question. See you soon xx

jemstar33 · 23/04/2020 09:51

@robs20 fingers crossed for you today! So excited for you!

@Wishing56 wow they're gorgeous! And so alert, I don't know what I was expecting at 12 weeks. That's such a good photo will them both smiling!!

Thanks @ladybug84 will join now xxx

Jemstar33 · 23/04/2020 09:53

@ladybug84 I can't seem to find it?! Can you share a link? Xx

Wishing56 · 23/04/2020 13:47

I can't find it either xx

No news from @Robs20 today, hoping everything is gone to plan 🤞🏼🐣🐣

jemstar33 · 23/04/2020 17:49

Thank you, I've joined.

Fingers crossed 😀😀😀 xxx

Robs20 · 24/04/2020 00:26

@Wishing56 lovely photo, they look so grown up!

@Ladybug84 @Jemstar33 section was cancelled yesterday but went ahead this morning. Hearing the babies cry for the first time was surreal. Baby A spent most of the day in nicu and has just been downgraded to scbu. All being well he should be back with me tomorrow. He had mucous on his lungs (apparently common with prem c sections). Baby B is fine and sleeping in the cot next to me.

Not loving postnatal ward so far, feeling a bit abandoned....but looking forward to getting home. Lots of the nicu staff who we know from before have been to visit and been lovely which has been nice.

Will find and join the fb group asap :)

Jemstar33 · 24/04/2020 03:07

Congratulations @Robs20 and happy birthday to your babies.

That's fab news on baby a being downgraded so soon. Sounds really positive. Hopefully that'll mean you're home soon.

How are you feeling, are you getting enough pain relief?

Being abandoned is one of my fears. How are you supposed to manage on your own after a major op. Have they given you a room? xxx

Wishing56 · 24/04/2020 07:19

@Robs20 huge congratulations! What did the babies weigh? Great news that Baby A has been downgraded and hopefully he will be with you soon.
Hope you are feeling ok and managed to get some sleep.
How did you find the section experience? X

Robs20 · 24/04/2020 07:51

@wishing56 thank you!
Twin A was 2.68kg and twin B was 2.64kg! I haven’t slept at all....I’m nervously watching B breathing and worrying about whether she needs a blanket or not!

Section itself was ok, and it’s true that planned is a different experience to emcs. I found it quite difficult because there was so much uncertainty about whether the babies would be healthy or not but as soon as I heard the first cries I relaxed a lot. Before that I cried a lot!!

How long did you stay in hosp with your twins? I think we will be in until mon/ tues at the earliest and really want to go home.

Wishing56 · 24/04/2020 10:52

@robs20 fantastic weights! It has always amazed me how our bodies cope to carry with carrying so much and growing two humans!

Oh bless you. Its a very emotional time. Hope things settle down for you soon and you can get some rest.

I stayed 3 nights so from Thursday until Monday. They were going to let us go on the Saturday morning but my Twin 1 hadnt done a poo since the Thursday afternoon so they said we had to wait for her to do it and that didn't happen until late Sunday evening.

Ladybug84 · 24/04/2020 14:07

@Robs20 congratulations on the safe arrival of your twins! 😊 it's so difficult not to feel alone and frustrated having a c section and being on your own with 2 babies to look after. Good thing tho is the pain relieve that you can get in the hospital is stronger, I've heard the first two days after surgery are the worst...

@Wishing56 😂 something to tell your twin A when she grows up, "we stayed behind because of you poop" or lack of... so funny. Did you manage to establish breastfeeding in only 2 days at the hospital then?

Wishing56 · 24/04/2020 15:35

@Ladybug84 i tried breastfeeding for 4 days but unfortunately my milk never came in. I tried everything.. i would try hand express for 20mins, then get baby to latch for 10mins and then 10mins on the hospital grade pump but didnt get a drop (this was every 2hrs). It was a shame as the girls latched really well but got nothing other than a couple of tiny drops of colostrum on the first day. My grandma is a postnatal nurse for over 30years and helped me but unfortunately it just wasn't meant to be.
I therefore just switched to formula.

Ladybug84 · 24/04/2020 16:29

@Wishing56 aaah I see, just curious. Formula is just as good, look at how well your babies have got to 12 weeks ☺️ xx

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 25/04/2020 09:22

I’m back after a long hiatus and some account issues (thanks to Mumsnet HQ for sorting😄). My babies 3 and 4 are arriving a week on weds!! Anyone else due on the same day? 36 wks exactly for us.

Jemstar33 · 26/04/2020 19:13

How are you doing @robs20 hope all is well and you're at home soon.

@Happydaysandhappysmiles hey, my section is planned for the 6th May too! I'll be exactly 37 weeks

Robs20 · 27/04/2020 02:24

Hi @Jemstar33 we didn’t have a great night/ day. Twin A was discharged from scbu yesterday but we are having real issues with feeding.

Thought we were doing ok bf twin B but found out today she has lost 12.9% of birth weight. Twin A has been much harder to latch on but has lost less weight (10.1%). Both twins struggle to stay awake long during feeds. I decided we should try formula today, thinking that was an easy solution, and it made them both really sick. I am at a loss of what to do next/ what is causing this....not sure if being a little bit prem could or if I should be more worried. DH is usually so positive and he seems totally deflated today.

Going to ask if the neonatal team can review them tomorrow but think it’s likely they will be admitted. And for the second time we will be leaving a hospital without babies :(

Sorry for being emotional/ dramatic. I’ve had about 6 hours sleep since Thursday, including no sleep at all since Friday night.

Let’s hope tomorrow brings some positive news....

Jemstar33 · 27/04/2020 03:00

@robs20 the thought of going home without your babies must be really tough given what you've been through previously ❤️

Having the neonatal team review them sounds like a really good idea, they must see this time of thing all the time and I'm sure they'll have some solutions for you.

You sound like you're doing great so far. Don't be too hard on yourself.

I hope you can get some sleep soon, it will do you the world of good. Xxx

Ladybug84 · 27/04/2020 09:50

@Happydaysandhappysmiles Hi!! Welcome back. So exciting to have your c section booked! You're going to have your hands full after this arrival 😀 if you want you can join us on our Facebook group, the link is a few post above xx

@Robs20 sorry you're having a few hard days in hospital, between the lack of sleep, the hormones and your history is normal you feel a bit emotional about it all. I'm sure it'll all be fine in the end and you'll be able to take your babies home with you soon. Take this time to rest and recover so you're stronger when they're ready. We're here if you need support. Sending loads of hugs and love xx

Hope everyone else is doing ok xx
