@DustyDoorframes @IVEgotthedecaf when he was first born I felt a huge sense of achievement for surviving. But definitely never ever doing it again. DH would never agree, he was seriously worried on many occasions.

I'm 35 and I felt SO old this time round, only 4 years later. I got wrinkles too.

Well hah to you two feeling old @IVEgottheDECAF and @Stroan ! I'm 39... I must say it never dies occur to me that being older is a factor (I was 35 and 32 the last two times.) but I'm sure it is!

@iano I hope you have had either a lovely sleep or a lovely baby!

iano · 10/09/2019 08:39

thank you for thinking of us everyone. Our little boy was born early this morning in the pool. He weighs 7.4lb; no name yet.
I'm now being kept in for observation as I lost a fair bit of blood and my blood pressure is a bit high so I'm having medication for that.
All in all an amazing experience compared to last time! Smile

Puglover88 · 10/09/2019 09:09

@iano congratulations!! I hope baby is doing well and that your recovery is quick! 😊 xx

DustyDoorframes · 10/09/2019 09:30

Yaaaaay @iano that's brilliant news! Congratulations! (Not about the BP- but I'm sure that will be sorted shortly!) hurrah!

IVEgottheDECAF · 10/09/2019 09:35

iano congratulations! Flowers

Stroan · 10/09/2019 09:47

Congratulations @iano! I'm sure that pesky blood pressure will be back under control asap.

Day 5 weigh-in today. Hoping not too much weight loss and my blood pressure isn't creeping up again. Yesterday/last night was a complete reversal of the previous day. Alice was much more alert and on demand feeding all day long and into the night which was nice. Her jaundice numbers have improved, which has helped matters. But she refused to sleep all night unless being held, after she slept just fine in her basket during the day. Guess we'll see what today's Alice likes.

Dipsy77 · 10/09/2019 10:36

Congrats iano Smile

DustyDoorframes · 10/09/2019 11:07

Ooh good luck @Dyra , hopefully all good! Hopefully Alice will cotton on that nighttime is better for long sleeps soon...

SJP3 · 10/09/2019 14:03

Congratulations iano - wishing you a speedy recovery and discharge!

DustyDoorframes · 10/09/2019 14:33

Ugh my blood sugar numbers are creeping up. I really can't be bothered with this...

Fortheloveofscience · 10/09/2019 15:29

Congratulations @iano!

Moraxella · 10/09/2019 16:01

Is it bad to eat the sweets from my hospital bag?

Megan2018 · 10/09/2019 16:05

I think the hormones are in full swing- this sounds ridiculous but until now have literally not touched the car seat or pram, been hidden from view in spare room for fear of bad karma. Just went to have a look and can’t work out how any of it works so just sat down and cried. I literally have no idea what I’m doing. I don’t feel at all prepared to look after this baby Sad

Megan2018 · 10/09/2019 16:05

Congratulations @iano! Hope you are both doing well.

IVEgottheDECAF · 10/09/2019 16:06

Oh megan it definitley sounds like hormones! Have a look on Youtube for videos of your pram and carseat Flowers

Megan2018 · 10/09/2019 16:09

@DustyDoorframes sorry you are finding the levels hard, I basically had to live on salad and protein for ages, boring!!
They got much easier at 37 weeks plus although I got slightly lax last week and had a couple of high ones but they were explainable. Is it any particular time of day or random?

iano · 10/09/2019 16:21

Thanks all! Feeling great actually. Bloodpressure is coming down so we should be out tomorrow.
I can't recommend the epi no highly enough. I didn't tear, but quite aside from that it really helped me to know when I was pushing and how it would feel (had a traumatic emergency section with my first so was a bit anxious)
If anyone is thinking about it and is a bit nervous I'd say go for it!

Moraxella · 10/09/2019 16:44

@iano you’ve inspired me to get it out the box. Did you do it every day?
@Megan don’t despair - took me a few hours of YouTubing, a few cups of tea and deep breaths!

Stroan · 10/09/2019 17:15

@megan2018 first time we took DD out in he pram we had to YouTube how to collapse it from the car park. It's not an indication of how capable or prepared you are - definitely hormones.

@dustydoorframes you are right at the potentially tricky stage. Hang in there, not long to go.

DustyDoorframes · 10/09/2019 19:08

Argh @Megan2018 I think that's one of the reasons we didn't get a pushchair til DC1 was 16 months old, I'd definitely have been a weeping wreck at this stage, trying to fold it. You will be fine with the actual baby though, someone who can juggle poorly horses and cats can slot a baby in, no trouble!
I'm 37 weeks now so was hoping the GD was going to be easier, but I think I'm just getting ahead of myself- it's not a magic switch!... tried and true lunches are sending me over which is depressing. My trust wants you under 7 which is pretty tight!

Lavellan · 10/09/2019 19:50

Hello everyone. Some of you will have seen my post on Facebook. Long story short every thing I would have preffered for my birth went down the khazi and we spent a week in hospital getting Avalon (born 4/9/19) antibiotics. The biggest thing that has all impacted is her feeding. I was such a breast is best FTM, I never even considered we would use formula. Everyone said bfing would just happen. I'm not at peace with it yet, but at the same time, I know in my heart a gruelling pumping schedule would break me.

DustyDoorframes · 10/09/2019 20:23

Oh @Lavellan that sounds HARD! You must have been on such a rollercoaster! And it sounds like you are out the other side now? Huge congratulations!!!!! The best laid plans... it sounds like you have done what you need to do for a safe baby- and that's the right thing! (Formula is incredible because it gives you a plan B! Sounds like you two needed a plan B and there is no shame in that, in fact the opposite!). Some people find they can bring breastfeeding in still at this stage (in case doing that is what you feel is right), and it takes lots of support and energy. It sounds like your energy is very much needed for other things though so finding your peace with things being different to how you thought sounds important.
Avalon us such a lovely name (and in the legends getting to Avalon has never been easy, or as expected! She will show you what she needs!)

Stroan · 10/09/2019 20:35

@lavellan beautiful name. I'm sorry to hear it hasn't been how you expected, a week in hospital is tough.

"Breastfeeding is easy" is the biggest mis-selling scandal in history. It isn't easy, the baby doesn't read the book and it messes with your head at a time when it's already a bit mushy in there. It took me 7 months to get over not being able to breastfeed, and truthfully, it's only now that I have managed to breastfeed this time that I've forgiven myself and accepted that it wasn't my fault. Please go easy on yourself.
