Couldn't see that anyone had started another thread after we filled up the last one, so hopefully I haven't made a double...

@cakeordeath89 glad all was ok. I barely breathe during scans I get so nervous! It feels like your having some kind of exam but there is no way of revising for it!

I'm only working till 35 weeks this time. I'm a teacher so means they won't give me a timetable and I'll just do admin for the few weeks I'm in in Sept plus I'll go back before the summer for a week the following year to get paid for the summer hols so might as well take some more time before! I worked until 36 last time and that was enough but was full time in front of a class everyday and was exhausted!

I found the tommee tipee pump good but only used it occasionally. It is much cheaper than some of the others but if using on a daily basis it is probably worth investing. I discovered that I can't pump as my milk contains an enzyme which causes the milk to sour really quickly. It's not harmful to the baby but makes it less sweet so DD would never drink it. You can denature the enzyme by scalding the milk before storage but who has time to do that with a newborn!!

Really hoping I can breastfeed this time round as well. I really enjoyed it and am too lazy to be faffing with bottles!

I heard the heartbeat at 16 weeks. Next appointment is next week just before 25 weeks as go on holiday the following week. Will need to get whooping cough booked. Think we get a flu jab in September time too. Last time I turned up for my whooping cough it was the start of flu season so she kindly shoved one in each arm!

(Sorry that turned into a bit of an essay!)

Sleepyquest · 05/07/2019 08:18

@HeartvsHead you teachers are so lucky!! I work for schools but will have to return in July and then work through the summer Sad oh well I have a year to worry about that!

I'm hoping to work up to 38 weeks but have no idea if that is doable or not being a first time mum. Has anyone else planned their leave date?

PyjamasForever · 05/07/2019 08:31

@HeartvsHead I had the same problem with my milk, so I spent ages pumping and trying to store stuff for when I went back to work and he wouldn't take any of it. All that time and stress for nothing. The only thing it was useful for was right at the beginning when I had rubbish supply. Really not sure if I'll buy a pump in advance this time or not? I think my local children's centre hire them out so I might do that if I need one.

Totally forgot about flu jab at the beginning of winter. September just feels so far away!!

@Sleepyquest with DS1 I worked until 38 weeks (daily easy straightforward pregnancy) but then DS1 was 2 weeks late so I had a month of my 6 month maternity leave before he even arrived! Meant I had to go back when he was 5 months.

DS2 last year I worked until 36 weeks. Had planned to 38 again but it was a very difficult pregnancy with lots of
Bleeds, reduced movements and more time in hospital than anywhere else! So I took weeks 37 as leave ready to start mat leave at 38 weeks. Ended up being hospitalised induced at 37/ 38'weeks so wouldn't have made it to my original planned date anyway

This baby I plan to work to 37 weeks. Takes me up to October half term where I have leave booked anyway. Will take 2.5 weeks leave and start my Mat leave officially on due date

I did all my sums last night to work out I can take a full 13 months off adding on all my leave etc so won't need to go back until jan 2021

Sleepyquest · 05/07/2019 09:10

Wow @Mintypea5 , January!!!
I've been trying to figure it all out, and think I'll leave at the end of October half term, use a weeks holiday and start mat leave a week before due date. Glad to hear you managed to stay so long even with complications, gives me hope.

Tmnmpa1 · 05/07/2019 09:32

Pretty sure I have been feeling baby move this morning (21w +2d)
It's pretty much the thing I've most been looking forward to about being pregnant!
I wouldn't say it feels like bubbles or butterflies like I've been reading. But it's like popping or something...really difficult to explain.
Now for my scan on Monday for the next bit of joy ❤

Mintypea5 · 05/07/2019 09:40

@Tmnmpa1 sounds like movement to me! It is really hard to explain. Good luck for the scan next week

Leleophants · 05/07/2019 10:22

23 weeks and still no bubbles or popping for me! So frustrating

Mintypea5 · 05/07/2019 10:36

@Leleophants awwwwww it will come soon. Do you know where you placenta is?

dottydally · 06/07/2019 21:20

Does anyone know much about hypnobirthing? I have put my name down for classes at my hospital (haven't paid yet) but having heard more about the course I'm worried I'll find it cringy and not take to it. I'm wondering whether something I can just do at home myself is the answer? The positive birth company do a digital pack that teaches the breathing techniques and ways of being calm (as well as the science behind it) without DP having to read calming passages to me or us having to watch videos of women using hypnobirthing.

I'm feeling a bit confused! Any thoughts welcome...

Mintypea5 · 06/07/2019 21:32

@dottydally a few people from my July group used it and said it was great. They used the positive birthing pack I believe.

Not for me personally but I have a low pain threshold and have only ever been induced so have always been delivered suite with epidural

Kaff83 · 07/07/2019 08:07

I worked until 37.5 with my eldest and 38.5 with my second. This time I'm aiming for 35.5 to make the most of the relative calm before the storm and to try to sort the house out a bit before baby arrives as based on previous experience there will be an 18 month hiatus in achieving anything other than keeping us all alive, ha!

I didn't do any hypnobirthing either of the previous times but might have a read of / listen to some this time.

Sleepyquest · 07/07/2019 18:34

I've got a question for those that are not first time mums. Today we got chatting to a couple and they had a 2 week old and they said don't buy 0-3 month clothing as their baby had already outgrown them at 2 weeks!!

I've bought loads!! Is this true? If so, gonna try and swap some eeeek

Mintypea5 · 07/07/2019 19:22

@Sleepyquest it depends how big your baby is really when born! It's not something you can judge before hand. My DS2 was born at 38 weeks at 7lb 14oz (same weight as his brother at 42 weeks) and couldn't fit into 0-3 they swamped him! He was in newborn and first size for a few weeks and stayed into his 0-3 months up until about 4 months (and he wasn't very small really)

I think you'll be fine honestly

Farmmum7 · 07/07/2019 19:27

It all depends on baby really. Mine were little when they were born they were too small for 0-3 months they definitely fit them for a couple of months when they went into them though. I don't think my two ever grew out of the ages before they should have done. My best friend however had a beast of a baby and he was straight in 0-3 and they didn't last long because he was so long. Every baby is different!!

Kaff83 · 07/07/2019 19:48

Mine were on the bigger side - 8lb 6 and 8lb 11 but were definitely in 0-3 for the first couple of months at least! They must have had enormous. The thing I would say that for the first three months and possibly longer mine mostly wore sleep suits (baby grows) day and night! Outfits are a faff! X

Sleepyquest · 07/07/2019 20:09

Thanks guys. I will keep what I've got and not buy any more then! I definitely agree with the sleepsuit thing, I am not going to put my tiny baby in jeans and a shirt 😂 I can't be doing with it!!

PyjamasForever · 07/07/2019 20:34

@SleepyQuest even though I had an 8lb13oz baby he lost loads of weight and then didn't grow very well... so we were in 0-3m until he was around 5 months! We basically only did sleepsuits and vests at this age because they look so scrummy and cute in them.

OP posts:
Sleepyquest · 07/07/2019 20:40

@PyjamasForever they must be so much more snug and comfy in them too 😃

Mintypea5 · 07/07/2019 20:51

Tbh I'm jealous that it's not acceptable for me to wear sleepsuits all day long 🤷🏻‍♀️

HeartvsHead · 07/07/2019 20:59

My 8lb6 baby was in newborn for at least 2-3 weeks before she for 0-3. I think it's more the length of them than the weight that makes the difference.

I dressed my little one in leggings and a t-shirt that someone had given us at about 8 weeks old then immediately changed her back into a sleep suit as it made her look too grown up and I didn't like it 🤣

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 08/07/2019 13:06

Mine were all early but even my 37 weeker went into tiny baby from Next and took a good few weeks to get into NB, didnt even get into 3-6 months until 5/6 months!

Really just depends on the baby. Some people have massive babies. Just keep the tags on anything you buy and then you can always return/exchange once you have an inkling.

@Mintypea5 agreed, but fear that if I put on a sleepsuit at this point I would resemble a womble or a teletubby.

Zarara · 10/07/2019 15:17

How’s everyone doing? I’m 23 weeks with my second and I have an anterior placenta I have just started feeling proper kicks! It’s so exciting. I’ve also started getting some of my sons old baby clothes out and washed. I feel like I’m doing everything quite early but I feel so tired already that I don’t know if I’ll have the energy later.

Mintypea5 · 10/07/2019 16:30

@Zarara I feel like I've started earlier this time too but I have a 7 and 12 month old so if I'm not organised then baby will arrive and nothing will be done!

BobbySD345 · 10/07/2019 18:38

We may go and look at prams again on Saturday when I'll be 21 + 4. The shop will keep it for a good while so we don't have it in the house. Too soon??
