Couldn't see that anyone had started another thread after we filled up the last one, so hopefully I haven't made a double...

I think we are going to get the Egg pram but do the luxury pack where you get a maxi cosi car seat and an isofix base. We will then need atleast one other isofix base for grandparents and/or HUBBY'S car. What's everyone's views on strapping it in without one?

Mintypea5 · 29/06/2019 17:17

@WispaGoldsshouldcomeinmultipac we're getting a cosatto this time the wow club as well need a double. We have our baby seat from last year and I know it's not been in any crashes so might save some money by reusing it.

@Farmmum7 we just had my mum & step dad plus my mil, all my husbands siblings (and partners) plus all their kids so 16 or us in total! Our grande isn't huge but it worked. Fantastic time but now I'm exhausted and ache so much .... it's far far too hot too

PyjamasForever · 29/06/2019 19:25

It's just too hot. Mother in law has been here today (and is actually incredibly lovely) but I feel so lazy just sitting on my bum when she is here. I still need to water the garden but can barely think of moving.

I'm soooooo hot!

We don't get late scans where I am. I don't get a 24 wk appt either as it's number 3 but I do have to call the midwife to book mine. And the whooping cough. Keep forgetting.

Had my 20 wk scan Thursday and all good - managed to avoid seeing any identifiable bits!

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 01/07/2019 03:05

@BobbySD345 I had a silver cross travel system with my first (she’s 11 now) and used the seat for all three (had 3 in 3years) and that was a strap in one. Had no issues at all and it was handy that didn’t have to faff around with bases- having said that I’d have much preferred the isofix base. The maxi cosi has the option of strapping in doesnt it? I think for gp car i wouldn’t be fussed.

We have to get a new car to fit baby plus my kids in!!! 🙈🙈 this is a very expensive child already! I’ll be getting the infant carrier that comes with the nuna mixx- it was that or the uppababy vista, but the vista is €700 more and whilst I prefer the vista, the mixx will go where I want and do the job just fine.

Anyone else have pregnancy insomnia?

HeartvsHead · 01/07/2019 08:41

@BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil yes! I wake every night between 3.15 and 3.30 without fail (very precise!) Then struggle to sleep any more after that. Been about 5 weeks of it now.

I have the Oyster Max2 and maxi cosy car seat. Found the Oyster was a bit smaller framed then a lot of the others so leaves me more boot space. It's lieflat so can be used from birth so didn't need an extra bassonnette bit (which living in a small house was great!) and we have adapters so the car seat goes on. Have an isofix in our main car then just used belt in others. Statistically the isofix bases are not safer IF you put the belt on correctly. They do reduce user error and are a lot quicker though.

BobbySD345 · 01/07/2019 09:15

Ok that's really helpful thank you ! We looked at the oyster aswell because I prefer the idea of a smaller pram. I see mum's trying to lug it all in and out the boot and dread that ! Especially when it's tipping it down. Egg is smaller too. We haven't 100% decided but id say we are 99% sure. Good to hear re the lack of isofix being OK.
My suspected hayfever is now actually a full blown summer cold so I'm feeling sorry for myself at the moment.

Farmmum7 · 01/07/2019 09:54

@BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil Im having to look for a new car too I fell in love with an Aygo last year and it only has 4 seats so I'm on the hunt for something bigger now to fit 5 of us...and a pushchair!

I tend to wake up a couple of times during the night then I'm wide awake from about 4.30/5.30 then I can finally get back to sleep about 10 minutes before my alarm goes off!! The weird dreams keep waking me up too I usually wake up sweating alot!!

Mintypea5 · 01/07/2019 10:05

@Farmmum7 we're having to buy a new car! Big enough for two car seats and a Hard back boaster for my 7 yr old ... Think we'll either have to get a 7 seater or something very mini van like to for 3 across the back row!

Kaff83 · 01/07/2019 10:28

Us too @mintypea5 - need to be able to fit three car seats in. New car it is. I did look at the multimac which is an all in one three or four seater you can fit across the back of normal sized cars but I think we will just need a bigger car anyway as our current car is pretty small.

Farmmum7 · 01/07/2019 10:29

I wouldn't mind a 7 seater. DH isn't so keen but I think the extra space would be nice 3 booster/car seats in the back is going to be very cramped. The kids are forever asking for friends over too and we aren't within walking distance of the school or their friends so Id need to be able to drive them and I can separate the kids on long journeys or just put them right at the back for a bit of peace and quiet 😂

dottydally · 01/07/2019 11:21

I think I'm going against the grain here and getting a bigger pram in the form of the uppababy vista. I will be having a proper look round but I think it's on the chunkier side compared to some. As long as it fits in my boot I'm having it!

It just handles so nicely and has a lot of storage space so I've fallen in love with it. Thankfully no new cars needed here as this is baby number 1!

PrayingandHoping · 01/07/2019 12:31

I'm not worried about Pram size either. My brother had a Mountain Buggy that was brilliant and as I live in countryside with country life being day to day built for Job is highest priority. I also have a large car anyway 😂

Mintypea5 · 01/07/2019 12:48

@dottydally we're looking at the cosatto xl wow which is pretty big but I need a double and have to be a non side by side one ... wouldn't get that through our front door it's too narrow 😐

Luckily we're have our new giant car for the pushchair 🤣🤣🤣

I'm not sure if it's the weather or the baby but I have zero energy today like zero. Work is incredibly hard to concentrate on

LittleAndOften · 01/07/2019 14:12

We got a nearly new uppababy vista for DS1. We found we hardly used the pram top and mostly used the car seat with maxi cosi attachments. When he got bigger we used the buggy attachment a lot, but the whole thing is so bulky and heavy we bought a lightweight pushchair after a while. The downside of the uppababy is you can't remove the fabric for washing.

dottydally · 01/07/2019 14:35

@PrayingandHoping @Mintypea5 glad I'm not the only one! We have plenty of space to store it too which is good.

@LittleAndOften I think it's personal preference and depends on your lifestyle. I have friends with the vista who love it. I live a countryside lifestyle and lots of walks with the dog on terrain that just isn't suitable for something lightweight!

Farmmum7 · 01/07/2019 14:50

I made the mistake with my first pushchair or being pushed into buying it from the sales assistant it wasn't bad but it wasn't the best. I got a second hand Jane double pushchair when DD came along then when DS was bigger we used the first pushchair for DD. It got stored in the shed though and went mouldy... yum!

I really like the cosatto wow and wiggle travel systems from what I've seen so far. Mothercare and Smyth's are around 2 hours away so I'm going to have a look when I'm next at the hospital in 3 weeks. Hopefully we'll find out what baby is and I can do some real shopping!

Whats the smallest size people are buying clothes wise for baby? My last was in tiny baby the newborn clothes swamped her and she was born at term so I don't know if I should be prepared and get a few smaller vests/sleepsuits just incase.

Mintypea5 · 01/07/2019 15:04

@Farmmum7 I'm getting first size & newborn plus 0-3 months stuff. DS2 was predicted to be big (measuring 3 weeks ahead) when he was induced at 38 weeks. So I only brought the 0-3 months size ... even tho he was 7lb 14oz all the clothes swamped him so we had to rush out for first and newborn sizes

BobbySD345 · 01/07/2019 15:20

All you supermums with more than one bubba having to upsize cars !! I have a Leon and Hubby has a Focus so with our first on the way hopefully the 5 doors and average sized boots will suffice Confused I haven't got the energy for car shopping as well as all this baby shopping !

I agree prams like most things are personal preference. I have a friend who doesn't drive and hers is never folded down as she relies on buses, so she has a super duper big model which suits her fine for walking round town with all the storage. A big downsize to the EGG is the small basket underneath...

I think ours is going to be a big baby so we have mainly bought 0-3 but we have a few newborn bits and a friend gifted me some first size and tiny baby vests just incase I should be so lucky not to have to push out a chunky monkey !

HeartvsHead · 01/07/2019 17:11

@BobbySD345 it's mainly when you go from 2 to 3 it can be awkward. You can't always fit 3 car seats next to each other in the back. We had a Focus and Astra with DD1 and it was fine.

Said DD was 8lb6 but still needed newborn for a bit. The 0-3 swamped her. I think you need quite a long baby rather than just chunky to not be swamped by 0-3!

LittleAndOften · 01/07/2019 17:21

We have a kia ceed and are considering getting a rav 4 not so much for the back seat, although the extra space will help with 2 carseats, it's more because babies come with so much equipment. I remember going to stay at my parents with ds and his travel cot and baggage, as well as our stuff. It was a squeeze!

(Just like to point out we can in no way afford a brand new rav 4! DH's mum used to work for Toyota and has a family and friends deal)

LittleAndOften · 01/07/2019 17:23

@dottydally I agree!everyone will have different preferences. My neighbour had a baby 6 months after me and had this awesome 3-wheeled all terrain buggy for dog walking. The only way I could get the uppababy across the playing field when walking our dog was to pull it backwards!

Mintypea5 · 01/07/2019 17:36

We have a Honda Civic at the moment and it's great for 2 car seats but my eldest is 7 so will still need HBB or a mini boasters for a while yet. Not quite enough space in between two infant seats. We have a Jolie 360 for DS2 and I expect we'll get another one for this baby once they grow out of the infant seat! They don't leave much space between them so need something with 3 full adult size seats or a 7 seater

PyjamasForever · 01/07/2019 19:33

We had a courtesy car for 6 weeks not so long ago which was a Ford Fiesta... was dreading putting in our big extended rear facing car seat but actually everything fit okay and we managed a couple of weekends away. It was like a magical tardis.

Against the grain I'm considering not even getting my pram out of the loft. I wore baby in a sling 95% of the time first time, only really used the pram for the first fortnight while I was getting confident with the sling and then started using it again as a pushchair when I went back to work when DS was 10 months and DH would take him on long pushchair walks.

Can someone talk to me about cots? I'm so confused Sad
