Couldn't see that anyone had started another thread after we filled up the last one, so hopefully I haven't made a double...

I'm feeling quite organised with the nursery and some of his bits but haven't even thought about a hospital bag for me or baby.
I was going to Google what to take and hope for the best !
Just had the dreaded "you have GD" call. Anyone else? She said my reading after the glucose drink was 8.3. I don't know if that's particularly bad or not but I'm feeling really deflated and now have loads of appointments to attend :"(

Mintypea5 · 28/08/2019 18:27

@BobbySD345 sorry about the GD. My midwife told me when I had my results (negative) that they like it to be under 7.5 I think but I'm not sure if the threshold depends on other factors too.

My best friend had GD it was a bit rocky to start with getting the medication right but she said once it was sorted she found it less stressful than she imagined so hopefully won't be too bad xx

Sleepyquest · 28/08/2019 19:13

Hi @BobbySD345 not yet. I have to have the test again next week as they messed it up and I'm not feeling too positive.
I've heard that it is not too bad once you get your head around it so try not to worry. At least now you know and can make the changes.

KJ1988 · 28/08/2019 19:24

@Farmmum7 glad it’s not just me!! 😂 I’ve got lists for everything.
Hoping to have a couple of weeks of calm in November before baby arrives 🤞🏼
Baby’s first Christmas present arrived today too - I didn’t want to start baby yet and don’t plan on buying much at all - but had to capitalise on the 20% off my first Year’s were offering 🙈 x

BobbySD345 · 28/08/2019 19:30

@KJ1988 I saw the my 1st years discount I wish we could decide on a name so we could get something personalised. Their bits are adorable ❤

BobbySD345 · 28/08/2019 19:31

@Mintypea5 do you know if everyone with GD has to have meds? She didnt mention medication to me but she has referred me back to the Consultant so perhaps he will put me on some. I've got to see the dietician and start a low sugar diet ASAP.

KJ1988 · 28/08/2019 20:52

Awww I know @BobbySD345!! That’s why I only ended up buying one thing 🙈
We don’t even know what we’re having. Chose to personalise with surname as it’s something we could use again in the future! I’m sure the discounts will come up again x

Kaff83 · 28/08/2019 21:20

Wow you're all so organised! I'm 29.5 weeks and have done nothing to prepare at all. I haven't even got my son's next size uniform / shoes for the return to school next week or bought anything for my daughter's third birthday which is next weekend. Agh!

leomama81 · 28/08/2019 21:31

Hey everyone! Name changed again - was this originally but recently ThreeMonthsToGo (realized that didn't have much longevity!)

Everyone is doing really well on the organization- I've taken notes on the hospital bag suggestions!

Sorry to hear about the GD @BobbySD345 - hope you are feeling alright about that? I don't know much about it apart from that it is pretty common and manageable. Do they automatically test for it?

Welcome @KJ1988!

Mintypea5 · 28/08/2019 22:19

@BobbySD345 I know it can just be managed through diet but the people I know of who have GD ended up with medication. They usually do a week of blood sugar management first of all I think CIA diet etc then decide if you need extra atuff like insulin

PyjamasForever · 29/08/2019 19:19

@Bobbysd345 I've got my glucose tolerance test on Saturday after having loads of glucose in my urine, feel it's probably quite likely I'll be diagnosed with GD. From what I understand you get a short attempt at managing with diet and exercise alone and then tablets and/or insulin if that doesn't do the trick. Trying to tell myself it's a good thing because it will make me eat healthier.

What are everyone's thoughts on the breastfeeding chairs? I didn't have one before but I feel like I might want/need one!! I've seen alot of them come up for sale and I don't know anyone that's had one so just looking for a bit of advice

BobbySD345 · 30/08/2019 10:25

@PyjamasForever @Mintypea5 thank you both, that makes sense. I see the dietician on Tuesday and then the Consultant the Tuesday after, when I suppose they will know whether diet is working. I am only on day 2 and it's so hard not to even grab a banana without having to think about ! No fruit juice and only 4 peices of fruit 😲
I went to bed so hungry last night because I would usually have a yoghurt fruit and meringue or similar after dinner and I was too frightened to !

What date is everyone finishing work? I'm going to try and get to 18th October and then take 2 weeks hol before starting maternity leave on 4th November.

dottydally · 30/08/2019 10:43

@Farmmum7 I have been thinking about them too! We currently have a nice big chair in there with foot stool so I may see how I get on with that. My only concern is having a chair after that I have no use for as they aren't the prettiest things!

@BobbySD345 good luck for Tuesday! I'm planning to finish work on the 22nd of October and then take holiday until the 17th of November (my due date) when maternity leave will start. Obviously I know my maternity leave will start automatically if baby is early though!

HeartvsHead · 30/08/2019 10:51

@Farmmum7 I think they look useful but just take up so much space! I found one of the shaped breastfeeding pillows really good before. Meant I could use it upstairs and downstairs as well so wasn't limited to one location!

I start mat leave the end of September... I want to be back for Sept 2020 (teacher so will get a naff timetable for the whole year if not there at the start of the year) so might as well take some time before!

Farmmum7 · 30/08/2019 11:04

Would a rocking chair be similar? I'm moving and the house will be open plan kitchen/living/diner but my room will be a lot bigger than it is now so I was thinking a rocking chair and a nice footstall/bean bag for the corner of the room so I can go and hide in there according to the kids im not allowed to BF when their friends are over because it's weird so I want a quiet comfortable space I can go and hide in.

Mintypea5 · 30/08/2019 12:15

Last day in work will be 24th October. We have a holiday booked for the first weekend in half term with DH family (although I'm nervous about being away from home at 37 weeks) taking leave up until due date 14th when mat leave officially starts

Sleepyquest · 30/08/2019 17:09

Planning to finish on 25th October and taking annual leave until due date of 13th November 😊 seems like most are doing similar!

ACuppaSolvesEverything · 30/08/2019 21:44

@BobbySD345 I’m doing exactly the same as you! My last day will be 18th October then I have two weeks annual leave before my maternity leave starts on 4th November. I’ve started it a week before my due date in case baby comes early as I didn’t want to lose my holiday days.
I still have four days holiday to take so think I might use it to drop down to four day weeks for my last month at work. I’m not allowed to carry it into next year or be paid for it instead.

PyjamasForever · 30/08/2019 21:52

I'm officially starting mat leave on 14th Oct. I also need to be back in September (not a teacher though), so thought it would be nice to have a bit of time to chill. I'm so uncomfortable I'm not sure I'll even last that long.

I think I must be mad ladies 🙈 my last day in the office is Friday 15th November... I’ve booked annual leave for the Monday and have my mat leave starting on my due date! (Tuesday 19th)
I have got annual leave I can take the week or so before that, but I am hoping to save as much as possible to stagger my return to work after baby. I drop to statutory after 3 months and am worried I’ll be forced back to work sooner than I want to go back 😩 i’m a worrier at the best of times x

Unsureursula · 31/08/2019 06:30

Hi All!
Thanks for the advice last week ladies, as I creep closer to the big day the worry increases.
@KJ1988 I’m the exact same as you in terms of the plan and entitlement. Really looking forward to Mat Leave but already worrying about finances! I’m due 6 Nov so planning to take 30&31 Oct as annual leave and start ML on 1 Nov.

Zarara · 31/08/2019 07:50

I start annual leave on the 15th October with maternity leave starting on the 1st Nov and baby due on the 6th. My DS was a week early so wanted to give myself some time to relax. I’m counting down the days can’t wait!

fabaga · 31/08/2019 17:02

I’m off on annual leave from 1st November and start maternity leave officially on 11th Nov (due date is 16th)...

@kj1988 you should definitely start mat leave on the Monday! Your entitlement is calculated in weeks that start on Sunday so starting on your due date on Tuesday will give you a day less leave and pay as it’ll still count as you taking one week of mat leave which runs Tuesday to Sunday. That’s the reason I’ve chosen to start my mat leave on the Monday before my Saturday due date, as I’d “waste” one week’s leave and pay on a Saturday if that makes sense! Sorry if I’m rambling and others please correct me if I’m wrong but it’s calculated officially in weeks rather than days.

Kaff83 · 31/08/2019 18:01

@kj1988 you might be fine, it's so hard to know up until the day. I worked late with my eldest two, around 38.5 weeks, but there's no way I can do it this time, I'm just much more uncomfortable / achey - think my body is ruined, ha! Finishing at 35.5 this time and I cannot wait!! I am also keen to have a good few weeks on mat leave sorting out our lives on the days the kids are in school / nursery before baby three comes as we have so much stuff to sort through, and I need to move my second out of her room to make space for the baby. At the moment we have nowhere to put anything new. With my daughter's birthday coming up this week, we'll have a mound more stuff to fit in too, no doubt!
