I am a little nervous about starting this thread as I was previously on the March 2008 thread but m/c'd. But I got my bfp this morning and although still faint it is clearly there.

Anyone else coming to nervously join me?

Goodness, loads of new people!

Im a bit off colour his morning, despite eating quite a bit. anyone getting that funny taste, especially when you drink? [bleurgh]

Re Alcohol: last weekend i just said i had had enough the night before, still had a hangover. i just got teased for that, but fully got away with it or say you are taking Anti-b's for a lady infection-noone is gonna ask more about that!

I have put in for a homebirth too my own bed, yay!!

How is everyone?

kookiegoddess · 16/08/2007 11:40

Hi everyone, I'm new here - got my BFP last monday so I'm about 6+5, due either 6th or 12 April 08 depending on which calculator I use. I'm 29 and this is my first baby.

No major symptoms, bit of stiffness in my lower back, very clumsy (not like me) and sore boobs.

Am meeting with a few school friends this evening - I've known them all since I was 11 - do you think I should hold off and tell them after 12 weeks? Am bursting to tell them and am finding it a bit lonely not sharing the news with anyone. Have only told family and one friend so far but really want people to talk to!

Am also a bit depressed that I didn't lose any weight before getting pregnant so am now pretty overweight - and expecting to gain loads throughout the pregnancy. I'm going to stop working on 30th - what's the best way to keep fit apart from walking? I'm going to try to swim regularly but hate the faff and smell of communal pools...

Also does anyone know of a good antenatal yoga class in the Balham/wandsworth/wimbledon area?

Thanks everyone, look forward to sharing with you!

vacaloca · 16/08/2007 11:50

I don't see the point of holding off until 12 weeks with good friends. Are they the sort of friends you'd want to talk to if you had a mc? That's how I judge who I tell. If I'd be wanting to share with them a mc, then I might as well share the good news of the pregnancy.

TheMaskedPoster · 16/08/2007 11:51

Hi Kookiegoddess and welcome

Congrats on your BFP - how exciting for you!

As for telling your friends etc, it is entirely up to you. I told (well some guessed and I couldn't deny it) a few of my close friends, because the way I see it - is that it is good news and good news is good to tell! However I understand the otherside of the arguement re mc and it is never fun untelling people if such a tragedy happens (been there, done that).

Ref the exercise question, I'm not sure what is the best but I believe Yoga and swimming to be very good. I am kept busy with a 3 year old dd - who is oblivious to my nausea and tiredness!

Glad you are having a nice birthday Daftmoo

vacaloca · 16/08/2007 11:51

oh, kookiegoddess, I came across an old thread yesterday recommending antenatal yoga classes in South London. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find it.

TheMaskedPoster · 16/08/2007 12:14

Oh and smells of things are really turning my stomach.

Cleaning sprays etc make me gag (even with a face mask over my mouth and nose) and my normally nice smelling 'Aussie' Shampoo and conditioner is making me heave in the shower.

Also the smell of roast vegetables (which I usually lurve) has me running away, hand over mouth ... anybody else like this?

kookiegoddess · 16/08/2007 12:14

thanks for that, will have a look. Really looking forward to doing more exercise as I think it will help to keep my spirits up and depression at bay. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment as time is going by so slowly, I'm leaving this job and had planned to start my own baking business from Sept/Oct onwards - and am a bit sad that will only be able to do this for a few months before bump, then baby come along - am planning to breastfeed if all goes well which will also take up time - so don't know when I'll actually get the business off the ground! Thankfully, Wandsworth (where I live) is baby central so I hope to stay active and adapt my business ideas so I can keep occupied in some way, even if it's just making the odd tray of muffins for the local deli. Is anyone else running a business at home and coping with pregnancy at the same time?? (Am sure that sounds a bit bonkers now I think about it....)

kookiegoddess · 16/08/2007 12:18

Had some red peppers in a (homemade) chicken kebab last night and decided that maybe I don't like them anymore - tasted very odd to me.

I had 2 terminations when I was much younger and during one of the pregnancies I found that Comfort fabric softener and the smell of the fridge made me gag - I still don't buy comfort as the memory of the nausea is so bad. I'm feeling quite nervous about gettting m/s again as practically everything made me want to vom.

Hope you feel better soon!

lemonaid · 16/08/2007 12:28

I'm sort of setting up my own business, kookiegoddess, but had been holding off throwing myself into it and/or giving up my existing job because I knew we were TTC. Towards the end of 2008 it will be all systems go, I hope!

vacaloca · 16/08/2007 12:34

kookiegoddess, I'm getting hungry thinking of your muffins. I also run my own business and had the worst timing when DD2 was born - right at the peak period for my business and of course not being able to take maternity leave. In the end it was completely fine - I was supposed to be expanding the business that year but I just kept it ticking along as best I could. Luckily DD2 slept good chunks of time when she was a tiny baby and I would try and get most of my work out of the way in that time. The timing for this is not going to be brilliant either and now I'll have 3 LOs to deal with.

scorpio1 · 16/08/2007 12:36

I keep worrying that somethings wrong-i don't feel very sicky anymore.

Do you think its because i have had sleep and am eating as soon as i get up?

TheMaskedPoster · 16/08/2007 12:42

well done to you ladies with your own business's, I am in awe! and to keep them going with little ones, truly remarkable. (I can barely keep house! )

Scorpio - I have the odd day when I don't feel that nauseous, and like you I start to worry ... has yours disappeared completely? and as you say eating something straight away sometimes does help.

kookiegoddess · 16/08/2007 12:44

Vacaloca, thanks for your encouragement. I'm hoping that exercise will help to keep my energy levels up so that I won't stop cooking completely one I've had the baby! There is an award winning cafe near me on Northcote road which is run by mums and all their cakes and jams etc are also made by mums - so hope I can get some work there. I'm determined not to go back into an office! Wish me luck!!

scorpio1 · 16/08/2007 12:44

not completely, no, but is alot less. not really sure why i am worrying-i have never had any probs before, and i've never been ill/sick in previous pgs...just want more confirmation iyswim? im 5+6 today.

TheMaskedPoster · 16/08/2007 12:53

I know what you're saying ... the sicky feeling is horrid, but reassuring. You're probably just over the worst of it and it's only natural to feel worried.

Right,I am off to munch on some hula hoops (!!!), about the only thing besides fruit I want to eat (and too much fruit is just a tad boring IMVHO)

scorpio1 · 16/08/2007 12:55

thats what ithought-my body is adapting to the extra hormones? another pg test wont help because even if something was wrong i would still get BFP-the hormone wont have gone.

It is ok, isn't it?

vacaloca · 16/08/2007 13:00

I'm sure it's OK scorpio. Mine comes and goes and some days are definitely worst than others. I had no symptoms at all during my first pg and all was fine.

scorpio1 · 16/08/2007 13:01

Thanks everyone. hoping for lots of sickyness tomorrow morning! i am very tired though.

lemonaid · 16/08/2007 13:14

Oh dear, why did you have to go and mention hula hoops?

scorpio1 · 16/08/2007 13:15

i like mini-cheddars

EllieG · 16/08/2007 13:27

I keep thinking that the tiredness must be a good sign, as that's the only symptom I have consistently.
Am fretting today - DP was up in the night worrying about how we will afford a baby and we nearly had a row this morning about it. I really want to give up work for a year to spend time with it, as we only get 4 months maternity leave here and I can't bear the idea of putting a 4 month old in full time child care, especially after losing my first one. But I earn more than DP and will be a real struggle. I am going to save and save for the next few months, and I was thinking I could do some childminding for extra cash once have the baby. It will be OK won't it?
