@megan2018 sorry you have GD, try not to worry though, many people diet control or just need Metformin to manage it.

The NHS advice isn't always the best, quite outdated and if I ate their recommended diet.id be on insulin with every meal. There's a wonderful website and Facebook group called Gestational Diabetes UK Mums which has a LOT of advice and a specific diet. Many hospitals recommend using it and my midwife told me this morning that they were having a meeting today to discuss recommending it. It's a great resource and the group is very helpful. The lady who runs it has created loads of recipes that are GD friendly. Even chocolate brownies!

www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk/

GD has never made me feel ill, with the exception of one hypo. In my last pregnancy, it was fully diet controlled and I didn't find it difficult at all. My issue this time is just that combined with HG, finding food that doesn't make me sick OR raise my blood sugars is hard!

I hope you get your appointment soon to figure out a plan.

RonaldWeasley · 18/06/2019 20:40

Colour matching knickers, love it 😂😂

We are going for Eddie Alexander as the name. Alexander is DH's name and we call the crotch goblin Eddie all the time. I can't imagine changing it when he's here but we'll see.

Sorry to hear those dealing with GD, hope it's as smooth a road as can be.

easterbuns1 · 18/06/2019 20:50

For those who are saying they don't have family history or any signs why are you having the GTT? It seems from this group and another I'm on that just about everyone seems to be having it but I thought it was only if you had family history or a very high bmi?

DustyDoorframes · 18/06/2019 20:55

I had the GTT in my second pregnancy as my first child was big. There is also a marker they look for in your bloods which can trigger it I think. No GTT for me this time as it was all clear last time, but I do have to have a blood test two hours after eating a meal from a specified list (which all sound rather yummy, actually!)

Stroan · 18/06/2019 21:07

Yeah, things can change during pregnancy which trigger it even if you aren't originally on the testing pathway.

It's really not that bad once you get the hang of things.

IVEgottheDECAF · 18/06/2019 21:17

5 pregnancies here. No GTT!

Anyone been having any aches and pains in the bump?

28+5 and have achey feeling on one side of bump and getting twinges also Confused

Stroan · 18/06/2019 21:35

I was last week. Really sharp pains and then achey underneath.

Megan2018 · 18/06/2019 21:59

@stroan
I already have a very GD friendly diet-comes from growing up in a type 2 household. I can’t think of a single thing I can change diet wise sadly.
Will see what the clinic says, my main concerns are around early induction as don’t want an Aug baby!

Florencenotflo · 18/06/2019 22:04

Lots of twinges, fanny daggers and Brixton hicks here @IVEgottheDECAF

Well our day was a bit of a disaster to start with! We both took the day off and packed Dd off to Nanny and Grandad for the day so that we could dismantle her cot, put up her new bed, move cot into baby's room, build all the ikea furniture. All fine apart from half of DD's bed is missing! Delivered 2 weeks ago, 2 huge boxes, but 2 of the same box! So after a slightly heated conversation with bensons for beds, the second box will be delivered next week along with a nice man to assemble it as a gesture of goodwill!

The rest went well so we have most of baby's room done, just the fluffy stuff like bedding and pictures to put up. Plus I can now start sorting out clothes that are in the loft, so not all bad!

I'm 30 weeks now, so I have the following eviction plan for baby!

  • sit/bounce on ball daily from now
  • raspberry leaf tea (1 cup)from 33 weeks, increase to 3 cups after 36 weeks
  • 6 dates a day from 35 weeks
  • daily walk with dd from 36 weeks (thats when I go on mat leave) involves a very big hill on the way home
  • clary sage baths from 36 weeks
  • perineal massage, not really to do with getting baby out, just getting baby out smoothly 😂
  • jumping DH as much as I can tolerate 😂 this one will be the first to be forgotten though

I don't think I've forgotten anything! Pineapple... but I eat that quite a lot anyway.

TwittleBee · 18/06/2019 22:06

Very twingy and stabby here. Plus BHs are ramping up, I can't even stand getting sexually aroused now as it causes them so bad!

OP posts:
Stroan · 18/06/2019 22:19

@Megan2018 ah ok. I don't follow the type 2 diet advised by the hospital as it doesn't work for me, I can't tolerate the level of carbs that they suggest.

You may well find that you barely have to adjust your diet anyway. Lots of people find that it's just their fasting levels that are hard to control and diet doesn't make much difference to those.

Same with early induction, lots of people get to go to 40+6. I wasn't induced early with DD, was induced on my due date because of breathing difficulties. Non GD related.

Stroan · 18/06/2019 22:40

Oh god, the fanny daggers/lightning crotch. I'd blocked those out, but back with a vengeance this week.

Isn't pregnancy just an utter joy?!

@florencenotflo you sound very determined!

Florencenotflo · 18/06/2019 23:14

I'd forgotten too @Stroan 😂

Yes!! Very determined. DH has been waiting for 2 years to do a 5 day residential training course 400 miles away. He needs this to go for the next rank up at work and get promotion. He's been accepted onto a course starting on 13th September, baby is due on 27th August!

If baby is overdue then he will obviously cancel, there is always a huge standby list, but he's been waiting for so long it'll be gutting if he has to turn it down. It'll be a stretch even if baby is on time, it'll be 2 weeks old when he goes. My best friend is moving in while he's away to help and both our mums are on hand. But doable!

Stroan · 18/06/2019 23:30

@florencenotflo everything crossed for a co-operative baby!
Was your DD early/punctual/late?!

Florencenotflo · 18/06/2019 23:33

40+10 @Stroan Confused not holding out much hope! But worth trying what I can (safely).

Whisky2014 · 19/06/2019 06:59

Is anyone else's knees creaking? If i bend down then stand up my knees sound like a creaking door Confused
Woke up this am with both legs feeling a but sore too. Sort of heavy feeling

boodles101 · 19/06/2019 07:23

easterbuns only reason for me having GTT is because it's twins and therefore I have a higher risk of getting everything they routinely test for. I didn't have to do GTT in my last pregnancy.

TwittleBee · 19/06/2019 07:47

Whisky yes but then I have an old rugby injury that always gets worse in pregnancy...

Florencenotflo oh certainly start a "get baby out" plan at 37 weeks then I guess for you! Hope your little one arrives in good time.

Emotional wreck today - not sure if its been happy or sad tears or something else! Just keep finding myself full of emotion, feel like I need to either go for a run or curl up in bed! So odd.

OP posts:
Stroan · 19/06/2019 08:04

Hope this one is a bit more punctual @florencenotflo

Regardless of whether anything works, I think it can help psychologically to feel like you are doing something! But I'm a control freak and hated the unknown aspect of waiting for a baby.

IVEgottheDECAF · 19/06/2019 09:18

Think last nights pain were probably ligament pains. Was fine once lay in bed and all night until i got up. Really sore when i first stood up, baby seems to be lay all on my left side atm which i assume is causing the pain!

37 weeks for me is bang in middle of summer holidays when i am home alone with four dc! Sure they will keep me on my feet and busy!

boodles101 · 19/06/2019 09:24

I ordered a support belt from Amazon that arrived last night, put it on this morning and I can feel the difference already. Just takes that little bit of weight off the front where babies like to give me grief!
This is the link if anyone else needs some more bump support.

IVEgottheDECAF · 19/06/2019 09:32

I haven't been using my support belt much, physio told me not to depend on it all the time and work on my core strength instead. However i don't think i have any core strength to work on. Think ill see if the belt helps at all.

I ordered one of those paint pro roller things this morning with the though i can do some painting while off work, everywhere is half done or grubby. Has anyone used one? Its the one off those high st tv adverts, claims you can coat a wall in 5 mins.

TwittleBee · 19/06/2019 09:50

That is what my physio has told me to do too Decaf - work on core and posture.

I know with DS I often walked about with a curved back and didnt focus on remaining balanced on both sides.

I've been doing core workouts that are suitable for pregnancy, never done any of this with DS as I thought it was a big no no!

IVEgottheDECAF · 19/06/2019 10:00

I dont think i have it in my to work out Blush

Stroan · 19/06/2019 10:12

My PT put together some exercises for me but they all make me a bit vomity. I can feel my core muscles when I cough but apart from that, they are non existent.
