I have known hospitals send someone out to the car with you in such circumstances to see baby be put in to seat

Megan2018 · 15/05/2019 09:25

@Karigan195
I'll just tell them we are getting the train if they want to be difficult!

TwittleBee · 15/05/2019 09:41

I've always wondered about those who don't drive.... Surely a pram on a bus or walking would be okay?

BBell2 · 15/05/2019 10:24

Would not have been without our infant carrier! Taking her into groups all snug, not transferring to a crappy supermarket trolley seat.
What is being discouraged is people leaving their babies to nap regularly in a seat (car and should be swings) allowing their spines settle in position and airways reduce with a bobbing head. A well reclined carrier is hugely more healthy than a more upright one. If you occasionally let them fall asleep at 1hr.45mins you wont wake them. So what its well reclined, honestly I was dead on my feet and incapable of safe driving without the odd car nap (DD slept for 20min blocks for months). A friend still sits on her drive at nearly 3 years to allow her daughter a nap. If you have one try it before deciding it's not for you. We saved the money of an intermediate seat towards our extended rear facing one (£280) used from 18mnth- around 6 years

Stroan · 15/05/2019 10:27

The hospital didn't even check our car seat. Maybe they would have if they'd had any reason to be slightly suspicious. Drives me mad that places have such a variety of rules.

@happydays00 I wish I had arm muscles! by that age I was only really going from the door to the car so it wasn't too bad. I think our seat itself is quite light as well.

Megan2018 · 15/05/2019 13:04

Interviews for my replacement are on Monday - eek!
I feel so weird about it. Made some progress on my handover file today - so hard though to articulate what I do all day. I was aiming to have a working draft of it ready for June for my director to review, then I can update/edit in July/Aug before I finish. It is taking longer than I thought!

Definitely mixed emotions about it all - one minute I can't wait to finish and other days I feel terrified about leaving it for a year to change nappies...

excitednerves · 15/05/2019 16:30

That’s exciting @megan2018! Starts to make it feel really close! I’m doing my best to support recruitment for my job but I do something a bit niche so not having much luck finding anyone who is right. I can’t wait to go though, and don’t really think I’ll come back to that role afterwards (but not saying that at work just yet, just keeping the door open until I’m sure)

Stroan · 15/05/2019 16:40

I hated the recruitment for my mat cover. My job at the time was all a bit of a disaster as the company had been taken over, new managers came in and some of the older staff took it all really badly. But interviewing people who were critical of MY work was horrific!

I wanted someone who would do a good job, but that they wouldn't prefer to me! And someone who would definitely leave when I came back. Except I didn't go back anyway.

My new work aren't hiring cover for me - I work in a digital agency on project stuff so there's no real long term role to be covered or handed over. I don't know exactly what I'll do when I come back but they'll find something.

Megan2018 · 15/05/2019 16:42

@excitednerves
It feels really soon but it really isn’t in this sector as 3 months notice is standard and I have 13 weeks left. So I know it is good they are “on it” but its still weird.
There is one internal candidate who I know well (plus externals). If she gets it handover will be easy and I can start to include her on things from June. It’s never that easy though!!

excitednerves · 15/05/2019 17:35

Just had the most unprofessional 24 week appointment. We see the GP rather than midwife at 24 weeks - it’s literally printed in my hospital notes booklet but she seemed surprised “oh, could the midwife not fit you in?” Then asked me 3 times if I’d felt movement yet. Just seemed really unsure of everything and no nice chit chat either. At the end asked me to bring my own urine sample downstairs to be sent off (is that normal, it felt weird handing over a tube of wee to the receptionist) and then when checking my notes, I realised she’d put in a printed email about another patient.

I complained about her at reception.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 15/05/2019 21:47

@excitednerves sorry about your appointment, that does sound rubbish :( Well done for saying something!

I had a travel system and even though I couldn't easily lift the car seat (c-section and ongoing mobility issues) I found it really handy. Baby was rarely in it for longer than 45 mins cos we bf on demand anyway, but not having to wrap her up and unwrap her etc, and not having to disturb her sleep was great. Shame she doesn't now return the favour as a toddler...

kyles101 · 16/05/2019 07:31

@excitednerves I'd have been very annoyed too. I think I'd have said oh, don't you know your own practices policies then?

I can deffo see the benefits of being able to lift car seat in and out of car actually for rainy or cold days, I thought the issue with the other one was that it didn't go on the travel system base securely, sorry.

Yuk, have had a d&s bug - why are these things always spectacularly planned just before you have plans you're looking forward to?? Planning on working from home today as can't face going back to the office... also, being sick whilst pregnant was interesting - I had to put a liner in so as not to have gotten through 10 pairs of pants 😬 there is actually nothing less glamorous than pregnancy is there??

Farmmama · 16/05/2019 08:38

Last time I started mat leave 5 weeks before I intended to finish work, with zero notice. Prem baby caused a nightmare for work as I hadn’t even started handover notes! I really wish I had had at least a few days to get myself sorted before baby arrived, but the bonus is I have loads of unused holiday still to use from 2018. So I finish work 12 weeks today, using annual leave then start mat leave 5 days before my due date on 18 September. What’s the bet this baby will arrive at 42 weeks and I will be bored or if my mind at home for 2 months?! It’s so hard to decide what to do without knowing in advance when the little one is going to make an appearance, isn’t it?!

I also really struggle with “taking it easy”. The day before by baby was born last year when on the phone to maternity triage she said it sounded like I was doing too much, so I was going to cut out the morning dog walk the next day. I’ve promised myself I’m going to listen to my body more this time and really TRY to do less, but not really succeeding so far Confused

IVEgottheDECAF · 16/05/2019 09:19

See i have the opposite concern. Convinced myself dc4 was back to back as i spent so much of last week on my sofa with spd pain. So my plan is to stay off the sofa and if need be crawl around on hands and knees. Sounds fun doesnt it.

I am so done with work. 6 weeks left. Ive had to stand on the train on the way home twice this week which really helps the spd situation...

However. 24 weeks today! Milestone!

Karigan195 · 16/05/2019 09:26

Anyone been in boots recently? Got some gorgeous brightly coloured baby gros :)

Not the best picture but you can see the pattern

Stroan · 16/05/2019 09:35

@excitednerves that's really disappointing. Did you get everything you needed from the appointment?

@farmmama so hard to decide! Last time I wanted a bit of time to myself, a break from the commute and to finish up knowing I had handed everything over and didn't need to worry. Was induced on my due date and by then I was going out of my mind with boredom. I'm quite glad I will have an exact date this time as I found the waiting mentally tough.

24+1 today and for the first time this morning I've felt ok. Almost cheery! I am sporting a nice sunburnt arm (just one...) and a fetching pair of cankles but I don't feel sick!

KnobJockey · 16/05/2019 09:45

Karigan I've got that too, it's fab isn't it!

Really struggling with sleeping at the minute, which is making me weepy- had about 3 cries yesterday! But on the plus side, the house renovation is fnally almost sorted, just painting, flooring and snagging (and lots of cleaning!) to do, so we can move on with our purchase hopefully in 2 weeks time!

KnobJockey · 16/05/2019 09:47

That's not to say we'll be moving in 2 weeks, that's when the purchase process will start. We're in rented and buying and seller is moving to an empty property, so fingers crossed for a smooth process in the chain.

Stroan · 16/05/2019 09:58

@knobjockey snap. Seem to be waking up at 5am every day and getting very irate with DH who won't come to bed before 11 and always wakes me up. He's definitely in the spare room tonight.

Megan2018 · 16/05/2019 10:26

I'm waking up at 4.30-5 every day, then falling back to sleep just before my alarm - infuriating!!

I normally take a 2 week summer holiday from work - so I am seeing my 2 weeks in August as being that, and am just not going back afterwards. It didn't make sense in my work schedule to take the 2 weeks any earlier than that - but mentally I am not going to view those 2 weeks as mat leave - it is holiday and then mat leave starts in Sept.

I've been advised it is possible I'll be induced at 39 weeks, so then it will only be a few days into mat leave anyway. I'd prefer that than a longer wait I think. Apparently they don't let you go over 40 weeks when you are my age (unless you choose to ignore the medical advice). The stillbirth stats are too scary to contemplate that for me!

Am 23 weeks today, 13 weeks at work left. NCT classes start in just over 3 weeks. Now that is scary!!

Karigan195 · 16/05/2019 10:45

I’ve been told the same Megan so anticipating baby coming around the 21st.

Dyra · 16/05/2019 10:50

Oh the early morning wake-ups.... I'm waking up, dealing with whatever issue woke me up (take your pick from: a too vivid dream, needing a wee, leg cramps or two or all of the above), then going back to sleep until my alarm. I have no idea what time it is, as if I turn on any sort of light, that's it, I'm awake. All I know is that it is dark outside.

Really looking forward to the Baby Show now. I want to look at and play with all the stuff!

Stroan · 16/05/2019 11:31

Leg cramps! Is there anything worse than waking up suddenly, in agony and not being able to move your leg?!

Karigan195 · 16/05/2019 11:41

Had that for the first time today! Not pleasant!

So far I have the delights of piles, a whopping great big nosebleed coming out of nowhere this morning and cramp waking me up today.

I think I know why I left it ten years to have a second 😂😂

easterbuns1 · 16/05/2019 11:45

I was up having tea and toast at half four this morning! Woke up at four with bad dream / needing to pee / being kicked and there was no chance of getting back to sleep. Really wanted a cuppa but I can't have a cuppa first thing without something to eat or I'm sick so breakfast was a bit early. Now having an lunch because I'm starving!

We finally have our keys for new house so will start getting that organised over the weekend. Should probably get some more boxes I'm far too laid back about it this time since I've moved a few tunes in last couple years. This is the last time though!
