I get enhanced pay too. 6 weeks full inc SMP, 12 weeks half plus SMP and 7 weeks paid holiday - so in effect 19 weeks full pay plus SMP. I'm the main earner so have to ensure I get it!

I'm going to formally write to HR after my next MW apt which is at 23+4 to set out when I want mat leave to start and finish etc. Hopefully I will have the MATB1 form to provide then too but otherwise I will tell them when to expect it. Our policy document for mat pay asks for it and the formal notification of pregnancy by the Qualifying Week (which is 15 weeks before due date, so effectively at 25 weeks) or "as soon as possible after".

HR already know I am pregnant though, they interview for my role soon - so it is just a formality I hope.

@challengeyourreality
Hello! I think the deciding factor will be what looks best.. or whatever my favourite is 😂 I have a feeling grey will make an appearance somewhere! Your ideas sound dreamy 🙈 I think this may be the harder of the tasks to do before baby comes. I'm not great at deciding on anything, but as she'll be in our room for the first few months I suppose we can change things around🙈 is this your first @challengeyourreality ?

barberstreisand · 02/05/2019 13:16

We’re having a little boy! I’m so happy, I was secretly hoping we’d have another boy!.

Duffya93 · 02/05/2019 13:22

@barberstreisand*
Delighted for you! Congratulations 🙈

TheCraicDealer · 02/05/2019 13:32

I also wanted a pink bedroom for her but DH isn't massively keen. I can see why, there are some lovely brights options around which might be more fun for her. But light pink and white is so calming and womb-like which is why I have our bedroom like that. The rest of our house is white and grey (new build + we're lazy) so I want to do colour or a mural or something on the walls for a change.

Mamas and Papas have a new bright/neutral range called Big Top or something which is lovely, but it's a dear hole and the bundles include bumper wraps which I don't want or need. Also whilst I like the look of circusy stuff I then start overthinking about circuses generally re. the animal welfare aspect and start thinking it might not be suitable....I'm hardly Mrs PETA so it really is ridiculous!

kyles101 · 02/05/2019 13:46

I have 32 muslins 😬

Moraxella · 02/05/2019 14:07

@thecraicdealer peignoir by farrow and ball is a lovely grey pink which is calming and not too “nursery colours”

Megan2018 · 02/05/2019 14:07

@kyles101 Wow!
I only have 12 so far, but was going to get a second pack of 12.

Stroan · 02/05/2019 14:13

@kyles101 I had over 100 last time....

Some people need loads, some people never need any. At least you're prepared

Megan2018 · 02/05/2019 14:23

Blimey @Stroan! where did you keep them all?
I'll be washing nappies daily so will just chuck them in with those so can't see me needing as many as 100, no matter how sicky she is.

kyles101 · 02/05/2019 14:55

@Stroan you've made me feel better!! I thought I had issues... actually found another 3 so 34 is now the running total!!

Karigan195 · 02/05/2019 14:56

I have 3 😂. I got loads last time and never used them! Think it depends on the baby. My first son was a very easy going non spitty little chap

TwittleBee · 02/05/2019 15:10

Tempted to go count how many muslins I have, must be over 50... Got through so many each day with DS and just found them useful for mopping up and wiping generally too

Stroan · 02/05/2019 15:29

@megan2018 had a reflux baby and leaky boobs so many, many muslins were used. Stashed in baskets round the house, in the pram, changing bag, everywhere!

Karigan195 · 02/05/2019 15:35

I’m working on the basis that if I need more of anything I can get it posted within a day or so. :)

Karigan195 · 02/05/2019 15:37

@Stroan oh I got some great little reuseable boob covers that came in a lovely little bag with a washing net for £10.

Also looking at cheeky wipes but not sure how they differ from cutting up fleece to make your own🤔

Megan2018 · 02/05/2019 15:50

I've got 40 washable wipes from The Nappy Lady (her own, not the Cheeky wipes).
So I'll also be using those for a multitude of things.

Stroan · 02/05/2019 16:01

@karigan195 yup! So many 3am Amazon prime orders happened in my house....

GemmaJen · 02/05/2019 16:04

@Duffya93 those look lovely, especially the yellow. I love a yellow and grey theme.

We picked up a rug for the nursery yesterday, hopefully going for a Peru mountains type theme. DH wants to do a mountains mural on one wall, mostly the room will be white, it's not a bad size but it's on the darker side of the house with just one window so want to make the most of the light we have. It's currently a not so lovely yellow beige wallpaper, as was the rest of the house, we're slowly de-papering one room at a time.

Odd question but does anybody else have a belly button piercing. I finally had to take mine out last night as it was pulling. I've picked up some flexible bars, but not sure if I'll be able to wear these to the end or not?

Stroan · 02/05/2019 16:05

@karigan195 I keep meaning to buy some of those. In fact, need to have a big conversation with DH about how much reusable stuff we could feasibly use. I'd like to try nappies but it's a lot more washing which he does most of!

However, this was leaky boobs during feeding! The glamour! So muslin tucked into bra to catch it. Then another few to catch the resulting projectile vomit(s) from DD.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 02/05/2019 17:02

@Karigan195 Now DD is older occasionally the proper bamboo wipes are helpful cos they have a bit more grip but in general, and definitely in the early days, my cut up fleece ones were fab :) I'm still using them the majority of the time now and she'll be two this summer!

Dyra · 02/05/2019 17:29

My sister had a belly button piercing. I think it was gone from 16 weeks and wasn't seen again until after DNeph made his appearance.

My husband and I decorated our spare room with the plans it would eventually be a nursery. So we have pale grey walls, cream curtains with leaf patterns and bunny rabbit pictures. Carpet is a greyish- blue. It suits the room, but it would be nice to get a new one while it's empty still. Just need to buy furniture and maybe a few more bunny pictures.

Regarding bump sizes, mine is more or less masked by my tummy fat, so I look about as pregnant as I have done for the past few years. But, does anyone else have anyone going in to touch your bump without asking? I've got 3 colleagues I'm now trying to avoid as much as I can as they always go in to touch. I've not said anything (yet), but I really don't like it. Especially as, despite them all being fully trained nurses, they all touch my upper tummy fat, which isn't where my baby is!

TheCraicDealer · 02/05/2019 17:32

GemmaJen this murall* would be perfect for your Peru room! I'm sure you could get a similar effect with painters tape and tester posts though.

Duffya93 · 02/05/2019 18:40

@GemmaJen*
Yes I absolutely love the grey and yellow theme idea! Pinterest has been a great creative source for me, and I've spotted a lot of the mountain feature walls too which look great!

@Dyra*
I laughed hard at your last part, I actually was saying this to my mam the other day about my belly chub that people touch and think it's the baby 😂 when in reality she's down near my belly button and they're just touching the last 3 years worth of crappy food I've never shifted! I haven't had people touching the belly yet without asking but I still find it fierce strange even when they do ask 😂 to me, like you, it's just my belly fat!

DustyDoorframes · 02/05/2019 18:48

Hah I must look quite fierce as nobody has ever even tried to touch my bump!
@Stroan reusable breast pads and wipes are a good gateway, small so no extra washes. Cheeky wipes do a very straightforward kit with boxes to put clean and dirty wipes in which is very easy if you are not washing nappies. If you've a nappy wash going through then you don't need a dirty box! Nappy lady has some compelling stuff on her site re how much you save in washing wipes!
