@Stroan I might not be able to help with the GDD, but I am good at clothes...what sort of stuff/ style are you after, and what type of budget? I'm in the bright as possible, garish prints, gender neutral camp, and I like to pay a tenner for a pack of sleepsuits/ up to a tenner for a special one or an outfit. But I do seem to have a skill for hunting down unusual gear!

Moraxella · 02/05/2019 07:16

Anyone claiming mat allowance and not SMP due to a break in employment?

jazzyjellybeans · 02/05/2019 07:19

Good luck @db92 my take two scan isn't until next weekSad

DustyDoorframes · 02/05/2019 07:55

@Moraxella me, but due to being freelance. Fun and games...

Farmmama · 02/05/2019 08:38

I have a low lying placenta too (found in scan last week at 19 weeks to check cervical length due to previous pre term birth) and she said they usually move up so don’t worry yet. I’ve got 20 week scan tomorrow then another scan after that in two weeks to check cervix and now placenta position too. I think it’s 32 weeks they generally do another placenta scan if they’ve found you’re low lying?

I’m still riding (a little flatwork and light hacking). Made it to 25 weeks last time when bump was getting too big and a bit uncomfortable. Mainly it was uncomfy when getting on and off and doing boots etc rather than the actual riding 😂 I did a good dressage test in the sunshine and thought it was time to stop. I’d say it it doesn’t feel right Meghan maybe it’s time to draw the line? Sad I know, but we do need to look after these babies!

Moraxella · 02/05/2019 08:42

@dustydoorframes
Any idea how we do it? Collect a form from the post office/job centre I think and go from there?

Went for my 20/40 scan and it was transverse, breech and then cephalic in the space of 5 mins; no wonder I can feel it move all day and night. Hope it doesn’t come out too hyper 😳 might start easing off the tea 🤔

kyles101 · 02/05/2019 08:45

@Littlehouseinthebigcity my dh missed it too because of work, but then I had to go back as they couldn't get a good enough view of the heart so made him take the day off for that!

Congratulations @boodles101 wow one of each!! Is it anything to be concerned about if they're breach at this stage? I don't think mines ever been the same way round, and is generally found laying across my body... I've not had my mat b1 form yet either... I think the 25 week "deadline" is because you can technically go on mat leave at 29 weeks, so that's 4 weeks notice. Just ask your work if they're happy to wait for your next appointment or if they want you to make another to pick it up.

@stormtrooperjulian Hope you're feeling better today? Hormones and an irrational cry were my specialty a couple of weeks ago, I'm sure they'll be making a reappearance soon!!

boodles101 · 02/05/2019 09:03

kyles no concerns in being breech, they both have their feet together downwards and then go diagonally up so I have a head on each of my sides, they make like a little heart shape in my uterus. They have plenty of time to turn around, although I'm not fussed if they remain breech as I'm still swaying towards a csection anyway. This way they have taken the decision out of my hands.

Megan2018 · 02/05/2019 09:13

@boodles101 So pleased for you regarding scan - how lovely to have one of each. We had the same issue with breech and facing inwards at the scan. I'm also in the camp very happy if she stays like that so I will get offered a section!

Stroan · 02/05/2019 09:18

@boodles101 wow, one of each. It will be so fascinating to see how their personalities develop and how they relate to each other.

@knobjockey thank you! You sound like you have similar tastes to me. Have you found anything good yet? I just like colours really and everything neutral seems to be grey, cream or white. Oh, and not too keen on slogans!

My main bugbear is having one bright coloured sleep suit in a 3 pack with the others being dull and insipid! Or something looking fairly neutral and then having a random frill.

To give you an indication of the style I like, I like these (not gender neutral and some are rompers rather than sleep suits)

I'm well aware that I'm fixating on clothes and it's a bit silly, but I just want something nice for the first day or two (and all the special photos). We've discussed getting 2 sets that I really love (one boy and one girl) and returning the unused one, but as I may or may not have another big baby I'd probably have to buy in two sizes as well. Which is a bit ridiculous!

TwittleBee · 02/05/2019 09:31

MW got back to me after I complained, apparently she isn't able to give me a Mat form till after I'm 25 weeks so will do it at my 28 week app? I'm really worried that's going to be too late for the maternity allowance (I don't qualify for smp)

Farmmama · 02/05/2019 09:41

That can’t be right as I’m pretty sure you need to have submitted your MatB1 form to your employer by 25 weeks to be eligible for stat mat pay

Karigan195 · 02/05/2019 09:43

Government guidance says 20 weeks! Quick google gives the guidelines and how to fill in the form. Intending to ask for mine next week at my midwife appt. Will be nearly 24 weeks then!

Megan2018 · 02/05/2019 09:46

@TwittleBee
That's definitely not right - you have to have it before then I'm sure. Can you try someone else?
I have to submit mine by 25 weeks so really hoping MW can give it to be at 23+4. Work are already chasing it!

TwittleBee · 02/05/2019 09:50

God I'm a mess, crying about it now. This is why DH missed out on paternity leave last time, because MW gave it to us too late. DH did verbally tell them he wanted paternity but as he handed the actual form in a day past 25 weeks they refused to let him take it!

Also stressed this means I won't get Maternity Allowance as I know how fricking strict the government etc can be on things like this!

I've asked her if anyone else will give me on if she wont

April88 · 02/05/2019 09:51

My work said I can hand it in after 25 weeks so just to get it at my next appointment. Maybe check with your work to see if they definitely need it by 25 weeks?

TwittleBee · 02/05/2019 10:02

It's not work, it will be the government, or whatever department etc, that will need it by then as i dont qualify for SMP (started my current job at 12 weeks pregnant)! And DH's work do need it by 25 weeks

CatG85 · 02/05/2019 10:05

Ooh I've not seen 1 to 5 so happy to spot this one!
Due September 7th. Had scan last Wednesday, all good and expecting a boy. This will be DC1 so very excited.
I've been fine with the heat too and also enjoying the alcohol free ciders and lagers!
Main issue for me at the moment is back pain in bed but hey ho

stormtrooperjulian · 02/05/2019 10:06

@TwittleBee I’m pretty sure your midwife can’t just refuse to give it to you?? If it’s a requirement for your maternity allowance that you have to have it by 25 weeks then you have to have it. You need to escalate a complaint if your midwife doesn’t sort it out.

CatG85 · 02/05/2019 10:06

@Twittlebee I've been told I'll get mine at 25 weeks too. Is this not standard then?

DustyDoorframes · 02/05/2019 10:13

@TwittleBee and @Moraxella , unless things have changed since 2016, you just send off your MatB and form off whenever for MA- you can even backdate it a short time if I remember rightly. I've always sent mine quite late. Your GP can do it for you if the MW is being unhelpful, ask at the surgery.
You can download the form online (if you've got big gaps in your recent work history you will need to faff about counting weeks to make sure you are eligible, but I don't think this will affect either of you). If you are self employed there is a silly dance you do paying extra NI and then being refunded it, because of how self assessment deadlines work, but if you've been paying employed NI I can't imagine you'll have to do that.

Stroan · 02/05/2019 10:21

@twittlebee would your doctor do it for you? There's no valid reason why the midwife can't sort it out, so frustrating

@megan2018 I'm sure they will do it, it's completely standard and if you have an appointment anyway you are halfway there!

Moraxella · 02/05/2019 10:22

Fab thanks, going away for a few months so stressing to sort
Just phoned up- legally you can have one at 20 weeks but the midwife needs to have seen you then, they usually issue at 25 week appt

Megan2018 · 02/05/2019 10:30

@Moraxella We don’t have 25 wk appt here, its 24 wks for first pg and skips to 28 for 2nd +

TwittleBee · 02/05/2019 10:39

Thanks all, I will ask my Dr as I need to make that whooping cough vaccine app anyway. Does all seem to silly to make me wait till 28 weeks!

That's a relief about MA at least DustyDoorframes but DH does need it before 25 weeks for his work.
