You all so organised that you compelled me to go and buy something today - probably the last thing I need but got Sensations bouncing vibrating cradle chair thingy from Home Bargins for £14.99 - normally £30! Winnie the Pooh which I'm not bothered about but a bargin is a bargin. Top tip about Boots too thanks
Also had to get smart pair of trews for work (yawn) and got a very complicated pair with buttons, stretchy bits and zips which should see me right through then got home and remembered that I go to the loo 50 billion times a day so maybe not such a good idea - I'll just have to keep doing those pelvic floor exercises!

aikigypsy · 07/08/2007 18:37

Nursery? What's a nursery? Right now I'm just looking at piles of stuff to be packed into boxes. I'm going to be making a temporary move back to my parents' house, where I'll have the baby in the room with me (and my boyfriend, who will be there some/most of the time depending on work/school/visa issues). Then we're going to figure out something more long-term for after Christmas. Until then, there's no way I'm setting up another room.

Meanwhile, my blood sugar tested high, so next week I have to go in for the full fasting (yikes!) glucose tolerance test. Not looking forward to it at all. Wondering if I should cut out refined sugar in the meantime.

sparklygothkat · 07/08/2007 18:48

LizzieO I know that feeling, I keep thinking that I will carry to term (ha!!) but then I think he would be here in 4 weeks like dd1! Or maybe 6 weeks like DD2 or maybe just maybe 9 weeks like DS. I am hoping that because its a boy that it will stay put!!

choudru · 07/08/2007 20:35

Lizzie/Sparkly - let's all agree to follow the old 'expect the best but be prepared for the worst' rule.

No harm in being positive but also sensible to get everything ready just in case.

I have been spurred on by you lot to get organised. Will pack my hospital bag this week.

Has anyone got the line yet? The one who's name I have forgotton that goes from belly button down?

I have.

No stretch marks though - have some on thighs from puberty but got none on tum from last pregnancy so hoping I'll get away with it again.

silkcushion · 07/08/2007 21:36

So it seems like I have the head start on stretchmarks. Damn. And I can assure you I am neither young nor sylph like - I'm going to blame my mum then .

I can't believe some fo you have the hospital bag packed - that is ultra organised.

I bought a sterilizer today and we visited 2 nurseries. They were both full of happy smiling children so maybe I won't feel so crap at leaving my baby there all day when she's 3 months old .

On the plus side I have only 8 weeks left at work when I go back on Monday. Thank goodness for that as I am already struggling!

jetgirl · 07/08/2007 22:44

Silk - I have my previous stretchmarks (DH called me hot rod after I was born as they had a kind of flame effect look) and I have new ones too around my belly button, which is now flat. My mum didn't get any when pg with me, but did with my brother, so I'm not convinced about the genes thing.

My bump has definitely grown in the past two weeks, non-maternity trousers that fitted comfortably under my bump 2 weeks ago no longer do up at all. I bought a skirt in the sales today to make up for it!

We're off on holiday tomorrow and I can't wait. We're visiting in-laws for a couple of days first then going to a cottage for a week. So looking forward to some proper family time together. DH and I went out to lunch today while DD was at nursery. It's our wedding anniversary on saturday but thought we'd celebrate today. We did an all-you-can-eat buffet at our favourite chinese. Never take a pregnant woman to an all-you-can-eat buffet

Looking forward to catching up with all your news when we get back, I expect there'll be a new thread by then too!

Pixiefish · 07/08/2007 22:46

I'm back to work in 4 weeks and going to work for a couple of months

RGPargy · 07/08/2007 23:03

Have a great holiday jetgirl!

sparklygothkat · 08/08/2007 00:08

haven't packed my bag yet, still need to get some big pants and a feeding bra or 2. Have breast pads and maternity pads (mmmm nice) and brought a new nightshirt and some nice PJs for afterwards, got my slippers too. Baby boy has nappies, wipes and clothes .DH did buy me a new suitcase for hospital (a small one lol) as the bag that MIL lent me was far too small. What else do I need for my hospital bag??

sparklygothkat · 08/08/2007 00:11

Oh have another growth scan tomorrow, and a checkup with teh consultant, lets see if DS2 has grown this time..

littleoldme · 08/08/2007 04:41

Hope the scan goes well SGC

Jet - enjoy your hols. All you can eat chinese - drool.

Choudru - no line for me yet. I want to call it isla negra but I'm fully aware that's a brand of wine . Spoke to a mate who recently had her baby a Jimmy's. She had a difficult labour but was throughly well looked after and has had good after care. thought you'd like to know. As it doesn't look like Yoga is an option whilst fanjo is in a such a parlous state, e-mail me if you fancy meeting up it's little 50 me @ yahoo . com No gaps though obviously.

After 6 phone calls and much chasing I'm told there's a physio appt in the post. A feind of mine has been working for a pct doing customer liaison - apparantly this sort of thing is v common.

Hopefully they'll be able to tell me what exercise will help as I'm worried to do much apaprt from v gentle swimming at the mo.

I went to see Hairspray last night. What a kitch camp fest it was. I loved it as did LO who was kicking like a good'un.

Right - cuppa and back to bed. Anyone else developing bizarre sleep patterns?

ara · 08/08/2007 05:38

Hello everyone, i am back at last!!

Haven't caught up properly yet but will make an effort to do so tomorrow and the next day before i get back in the swing of things properly.

(Littleoldme - my sleep patterns are pretty weird too! Hope you got back to sleep)

AnnainNZ · 08/08/2007 05:58

It's called the linea nigra I think.

I've been getting up in the middle of the night for a while, the bonus for me is that MN is busy cos it's daytime in the UK!

purplepants · 08/08/2007 06:13

bags packed?!! I hadn't even thought about bags yet (but then it wouldn't occur to me that I may be early)
Sparkly - one thing I forgot last time was money for the phone/tv/radio -oh , and flipfliops for the scuzzy hospital shower

AnnainNZ · 08/08/2007 06:17

I did go through a few MN threads about what to put in the hospital bag and made a list from it. I think I'll need several suitcases to fit in all the stuff that was recommended.

purplepants · 08/08/2007 06:24

Anna I think we took 2 into hospital in the end;one for me and one for the baby. I read somewhere that it's a good idea to get your DH/DP to pack the one with all your labour stuff in so he knows where everything is (One I'll definately remember this time!)
What day/time is it with you by the way?

littleoldme · 08/08/2007 07:37

Ara - I did get back to sleep thanks but then DH woke up to move my car. Def off back to bed now though.

Anna- glad I'm not the only one. One advantage of being awake so early was that I got to speak to my mate in Aukland without having to set an alarm.

Good idea about the two bags Purple

off ot the hospital this morning- appt with the anaesthatist so he can tell me exactly the same as he did when I had dd

LizzieO · 08/08/2007 11:13

Mornin my fellow pregnant lovelies
goodness but doesn't the sun lift your spirits.

ok ok so now thinking about hossie bag, tbh when i went in with DS all i had was the skirt on my back, poor old dh then had to make daily trips to mothercare and boots with list, hoping that someone would take pity on him and help him thru the quagmire of new baby gumpf

at the end of the day if you are taken awares the hossie has pretty much everything your gonna need , so no need to panic too much
Pixiefish - sorry if you have already gone through this a million times, but are you have an elective cs then ?

RGPargy · 08/08/2007 12:42

Afternoon everyone!

Just got back from my MW appointment. Had a listen to baby's heartbeat and she said that it was perfect. She said "What a wonderful heartbeat" which made me feel very reassured!

However i am measuring 3cm over the fundal height. I should have been 24cm but am coming up at 27cm. She said 3cm either way was fine but more than that and she'd start to worry. Worry about what, exactly??

She also gave me a leaflet about this company who are making a documentary about "larger than average" pregnant ladies to see how they are treated. You have to have a BMI of over 40 tho. I'm ashamed to say i fit the bill! I might give them a ring later to see what it's all about. As long as they dont want to film me giving birth!!!

choudru · 08/08/2007 13:06

Annain NZ - you couldn't do us a favour and post us your findings on the hossie list could you?

I have had a quick look around and a lot of lists are ridiculously long.

Lizzie - your and your DH's experience sounds uncomfortably close to our's. We had bought nothing for the baby when DS arrived. The few days I was in hospital, poor DH was running around like a madman trying to buy breast pump, nappies etc. Also pillows, inflatable mattresses etc for all the family that descended upon my tiny 2 bed flat. It was very stressful and I will do anything to avoid that this time.

It was, in a way, one of the unhappiest periods of my life. I absolutely refuse to let that happen again so now that we have moved house, I will be concentrating on getting myself and house prepared.

Off to get lunch ready now.

Will e-mail you littleoldme.

RG - I love it when MWs say things like that - I bet she's heard a million heartbeats yet she still managed to make you feel like your baby's was particularly special. I LOVE MWs like that!

seabiscuit · 08/08/2007 13:18

Hi All,

Just got back from a week with the in-laws, so have spent a soothing hour catching up on all your brilliant posts. Trip has raised a few questions I'd like to get your wise advice on...
In laws have given us some money and want us to get bugaboo cos their neighbours have one and say it's the best. I find it really hard to justify spending all that dosh on a pram and was thinking of e-bay.... mother in law does not approve. Any thoughts on what's worth forking out on .. ?

Also - in laws are strict catholics (I'm nothing) and want baby christened within weeks of birth so it doesn't go to hell or something. The thought of trying to arrange something like that so soon fills me with dread... whaddya reckon ?

Finally, am v jealous of all the planned HBs, my crappy health authority allows nothing but hospital and not even water birth, think I might have to move house next time !

RGPargy · 08/08/2007 13:19

Yeah it would be good to have a list, even tho i'm not planning on going into hospital, but i suppose i should get some sort of bag ready just in case.

Seeing how organised you lot are really makes me realise how UNorganised i am! I really need to buy more practical things! I just wish DP would make some serious ground with baby's room now tho. We have nowhere to put any baby stuff and i'm starting to get anxious about it.....

RGPargy · 08/08/2007 13:23

Seabiscuit - glad you had a nice week away!

As for buggies, dont get me started. I'm still umming and ahhing over which one to get. I really like one by Britax but am slightly put off that it doesn't rear-face, except when you put the car seat in the frame of the buggy. I dont want my daughter to spend her tiny time stuck in a car seat because i cant bear to not be looking at her!

Also, isn't it up to YOU where you give birth, not your HA?? After all, it's you that's doing the hard work, not them! I'm sure Loopy or someone will come along and give you pointers about where to find info on your rights to a HB!

Pixiefish · 08/08/2007 13:34

Lizzie- not a cs no- I have ITP so had to have meeting with anaesthatist incase I need an epidural
