June 2019 - Part 7!

Hi ladies! Picking names, packing hospital bags - third trimester here we come! Smile

I thought I'd start out with the stats this time and I'll post the updated name list in a bit. I've just included the data that I have, since a lot of people are missing bits (or quite possibly I've missed their posts). We come from all over, so I'll put that bit in another post later as well.

Our average age at estimated due date is 33! That should help some of us who are feeling older.

And that's not just because we're all second-timers! In fact, most of us are having our first baby this year.

Baby #1 - 31
Baby #2 - 26
Baby #3 - 9
Baby #4 - 1
Babies 1&2 together! - 1

Fifteen of us are expecting lovely little boys, nineteen of us are expecting darling little girls, and at least sixteen of us are waiting to be surprised!

The average due date is June 13th, and the most popular due date is June 24th. We don't have anyone expecting on the 15th, 23rd, 27th, or 30th as far as I can tell.

And if you happen to have a baby on my birthday (June 16th), your baby will be born on Father's Day this year!

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut Oh Fuck. I'm so sorry. I have nothing helpful to say, but one of my closest friends had her babies as 28 and 30 weeks and they're both absolutely fine.

The one born at 28 weeks was in the NICU for a long time, which was awful, but she's now a completely developmentally normal 2 year old, and she's even tall for her age. The one born at 30 weeks actually looked pretty robust at 4lbs, and likewise, he's really thriving.

I don't know if that helps, please ignore me if it doesn't.

Kescilly · 09/05/2019 20:24

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut I’m sorry that you’re dealing with this so unexpectedly. Lots of hugs and hope that everyone gets through this safely.

@paulhollywoodssexgut hand hold it is scary. My niece is in nicu she wasn't due until end of June but came naturally at just over 26w she is doing brilliantly and has been well looked after. She is nearly 7 weeks old now and gaining weight off big scary ventilators etc.

DinoMamasaurus · 09/05/2019 21:08

Oh gosh @PaulHollywoodsSexGut what a worry. It does sound like the signs from the monitoring and scans for the baby are positive tho and the estimated weight definitely sounds good. It’s impossible not to worry but they must think that clinically it’s necessary and the best option to go that way - have they given any other options to try/will they monitor more before deciding?

Again for what it’s worth I do have a positive preemie story. Not a CS birth but I have a friend who had a 35 weeker (induced). She was just a shade under 4lb but did really well - a little bit of help with feeding (nasal tube) but no special care or breathing issues and now she is a totally amazing, super bright and sporty almost teen.

Did you get any answers as to why your DS struggled at birth? When you’ve been through that it must be so hard not to think about going through it again but there’s just no way to know for sure whether he would have been the same/better/worse if he’d been born on another day or if any of the reasons he had a hard time will apply this time. As much as there are millions of them happening all the time it does seem like births are as unique as the babies.

Hope you are getting lots of support at home and get helpful replies on your other thread.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 09/05/2019 21:24

Thanks you lot.

Straight up TTN is what DS had at birth. It took me 15 months to find out what actually was wrong and basically the long and the short of it is that some babies born by CS struggle to breathe as they’ve not had the brain signal to evacuate their lungs of deep fluid in advance of coming out.

As an example a baby that appears by CS after a failed induction is more likely to have zero breathing probs than one after an elective as by shoving pessaries up you in the attempt to induce it does make a hormonal impact even if your cervix stays clamped shut (like mine with DD) and the hormones prompt baby to clear their lungs.

That’s why I’m trying to fathom if the steroid shots will do the same as a hormonal pessary in giving baby the “signal” to clear her lungs.

My head is baked. We only moved house on Friday. Fucking hell.

Ps: just to add a disclaimer to this scary post for new mums to be. I am not normal. This heart condition has been with me since birth and only goes mad in pregnancy. As this is my 4th pregnancy in 4 years I’ve effectively pushed my heart too far. After this I’ll get an op and it’ll all be fine. So don’t freak x

Heyha · 09/05/2019 21:25

Oh @paul big handhold here too- baby sounds a good weight for gestation though so that's got to be positive Flowers

Think of the pate, soft cheese and liver sandwich that you'll be able to have when you get your girl home 😉

Changingagain · 10/05/2019 07:13

PaulHollywoodsSexGut I don't have personal experience of the steroids but I'm in a fb support group for gd where they get discussed a lot as gd babies are often early. The normal seems to be that they are given to anyone who is having a section before 38 weeks for the reason you said, it prompts them to clear their lungs. Anyone being induced or at risk of spontaneous labour before 37 gets them to also strengthen the lungs. There are plenty of babies on that group who are born without steroids and still do great though. Good luck and I hope you're doing OK in yourself as well the baby, a heart rate of 180 sounds seriously uncomfortable at the least!

rollerskaterdata · 10/05/2019 08:23

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut please let us know how you get on today x

swiftfox · 10/05/2019 10:11

@Paulhollywoodssexgut I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I did mention this at the other thread too, and I really hope you don't mind but I mentioned this to my friend who is an obstetrician and she was very relaxed about it and said the outcome is almost never different to a full term baby. You are so close anyway.

And also, I totally understand you are concerned for the baby (I would be so so nervous too, and at 35+2 although I know the baby would most likely be fine, I would just not be ready!) you and the doctors also need to look after you and make the best decisions for your health so you can after all your lovely little ones. Sending lots of positive vibes and energy!

Napssavelives · 10/05/2019 11:46

@Paulhollywoodssexgut thinking of you xx

coastergirl · 10/05/2019 12:27

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut I'm thinking of you and really hope all is going well.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 10/05/2019 12:53

I’m just waiting and waiting to see what happens next now, the waiting appears to be a common theme right now.

Good news is they’ve changed my drugs and so far I’ve had the biggest pause between heart races so this is positive x

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 10/05/2019 13:21

Just had my second steroid injection now - early - as it looks like this is more likely than not to end in a CS tomorrow. Man alive.

I’m scared. Excited, but scared.

hexagon01 · 10/05/2019 14:18

Oh PHSG what a shock, I’m really rooting for you, whatever happens. It must be very overwhelming. You’ve got this ❤️

toomanyflatwhites · 10/05/2019 14:31

Paul if the new drugs worked better to bring your HR down is there not a chance of holding on, seeing as that was the reason for needing to do it in the first place?
Either way glad you have some excitement about it too :)

MadeInCornwallx3 · 10/05/2019 15:59

Just wanted to wish you all the luck @PaulHollywoodsSexGut .

I don't have any experience directly of what you're going through but it sounds like baby girl is a good weight and they're doing everything they can to prepare her for an early arrival.

Hand holding! X

toasterstrudle · 10/05/2019 16:00

Lots of love Paul , hope all goes well.

fee1234 · 10/05/2019 16:03

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut all the best fingers crossed all goes well 💕 two people I'm friends with have had their babies at 33 weeks and 35 weeks in the past month and both were home just a few days after the birth

HoneyPea · 10/05/2019 16:35

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut 💐 Hope both you and baby are doing well.

WeeBean · 10/05/2019 18:58

@paulhollywoodssexgut Just sending a virtual hug, I'm so sorry you're going through this!!

My friend had her baby at 27 weeks and apart from the odd minor issue she is absolutely fine, meeting all the targets for a normal 2 year old. Sounds like they're taking good care of you and baby. I'm thinking about you!

Ksjourney · 10/05/2019 20:18

Everyone has said it all PHDG so I will wish you and baby good luck x

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 11/05/2019 04:25

Well no baby! Looks like a different treatment has worked and I’m absolutely delighted as things got so real I had to sign the consent form for a CS at any point and they gave me ranitidine to counterbalance the acid from the food in my stomach.

I’ve not had an elevated HR for almost 20 hours now and they’re even dialling back the drugs a wee bit as my HR has gone down so much.

If I’d be put to theatre it would have been a CC under a general anaesthetic and my baby would have been taken away to another hospital on site (maternity hospital) and i would have stayed at the Infirmary. Nobody could tell me when I would have seen her.

I’m not a believer per se but I thank god that this drug seems to have worked. And whatever may happen in the near future (they are still taking about a 37w delivery) this is the first shred of hope I’ve got about a “normal” delivery...and by that I’m not speaking about my wished for VBAC, I’m talking about a delivery not under GA where I could have my baby in a fish tank beside me on the ward.

That was so so close. Now I just want to get home to my other babies.

swiftfox · 11/05/2019 04:38

So.... shit.

Just waiting at the hospital after a ctg. The baby is totally fine but my waters broke. It's only 35+3. It's too early!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 11/05/2019 04:53

Christ in a Citroen @swiftfox you must be terrified!

Have they informed you of what the plan could be as they may jab you with injections etc too to hold baby in as much as possible whilst maturing his/her lungs in the event you did need to deliver xxx

toomanyflatwhites · 11/05/2019 04:59

Holy moly - @PaulHollywoodsSexGut am utterly delighted things are looking up for you, hope you can get home soon...
But @swiftfox eeeeeek - as Paul asked, what's their plan? And it must be terrifying but 35 weeks is still very close to term so from what everyone has been saying in answer to Paul is that generally babes born at this point might need a few days extra looking after but otherwise are in a pretty good position. Sending love your way...
