my goodness - day 3 (?) of new thread and already at 100+posts.

babymad - sit with your legs crossed and do nothing for the next 14 hours

lizziemum - manflu is def worse than a sick child!

banana - i woke with headache too plus still got this crappy cold. fortunatley DP is off this morning so i was able to go back to bed and sleep while he watches DD, they are off to the park just now so i'm getting lots of peace and quiet.

just got 2 hours to work today and 3.5 hours tomorrow then that's me on mat leave - hooray.

growingbagpuss · 12/07/2007 10:20

LOL ladies... too exhausted to post. By the time I get upstairs it takes me 10 minutes to get my breath back - let alone type.

Apparently Lavendar baths AFTER 37 WEEKS can help bring on labour.. so get bathing post 37 weeks!! I'm counting the days til tuesday when my window opens....

Sex?? You must be kidding. Got itchy piles now. Tea tree cream quite helpful. Sorry TMI !!

bananabump · 12/07/2007 10:23

Woah! I'll stop posting about my massive bump now since seeing this

Christ, now THAT must have been uncomfortable! Gorgeous babies though.

lol bagpuss, ain't pregnancy glamorous?

BabyMadandBIGbump · 12/07/2007 10:31

DH hasn't had it since 28 weeks due to getting cramp/pains straight after so got abit worried, but hoping it happened again now I'm 36+6 (37 in 13 hours and 29 mins ) sorting out lots of stuff today stuff that I wont want to do WHEN baby comes long, like big pile of ironing and so on, also doing the food shopping today (by internet) and 100% doing my toe nails today got to look good in labour ladies! DH really is happy, I phoned him about an hour ago told not to waste any energy today as he will be needed later ! Back later!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 12/07/2007 10:33

OM(F)G wow

myweegirl · 12/07/2007 10:41

babymad - hope you have a good night .

what an amazing bump - how did she manage to do anything?!

our post birth contraception will be separate rooms!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 12/07/2007 10:42

It's the after tummy that shocks me the most, that's really bad! my tummy looks like her 20/22 week tummy!

kiteflying · 12/07/2007 10:42

Morning everyone. Nothing exciting to say, except that I am v excited for Babymad reaching her window.

Have started to calculate how soon I reach 37 weeks now. 12 August. Same day as my Mum arrives from Oz so that could be an interesting day!

Washersaurus · 12/07/2007 10:46

Good morning all !

It is terribly hard work keeping up with you girls y'know!

I'm having a super lazy day as I did too much yesterday in the way of cleaning & shopping etc. DS is at nursery all day so am going to make the most of it.

Hmmm, although I might try to sort out my toenails and make them look pretty if I can reach....

I have been sleeping so much over the last few days it is embarrassing - I went to bed at 7pm the other night (minutes after DS went to sleep) and slept right through until 7am . Still feel tired though!

kiteflying · 12/07/2007 10:49

Does anyone else (preferably those around the 33 weeks mark rather than the about the pop brigade) have trouble with sensations of knitting needles stabbing you in the bladder and vicinity (trying to be coy with "vicinity") from inside. It feels like the baby has talons and takes me by surprise every so often - sometimes in very public places.

mum2george · 12/07/2007 11:04

Morning everyone, its taken me ages to catch up!

Myweegirl, glad you are going on ML soon, feels great doesn't it! Think we will be using the same contraception as you after the baby comes. When the dr asked me last time what we were using I just said "no".

Saturn, glad you are finishing a bit earlier, sounds like you need a good rest and some TLC.

Bananabump, stick DP on the daybed tonight. I think he has just lost his rites to share your bed!

Washersaurus, you're not anaemic too are you? I have been totally exhausted for weeks but after 2 days on iron tablets am feeling a bit better.

Am going now I've caught up. Have already done the shopping which is v.organised for me. Have got to collect DS from pre-school soon, then its lunch and hopefully and hour in bed! Really hopes he's worn out and in the mood for an afternoon nap 'cos I def am.

We had a call last night to say we'd won a new telly, so thats cheered me up loads. Will have a tv with a decent picture to look at while I sit on the settee troughing cake and biscuits and bfing

growingbagpuss · 12/07/2007 11:06

OMG that tummy made me feel rather queasy...

I have new stretchmarks to add to the originals, and my appendix scar is beginning to stretch a little.....uh oh.

That triplet mother talked about "post partum" - which usually means AMerica - I'm impressed by the home birth bit - as my cousins in the US said homebirths are v rare becuase of the cost of insurance and threat of litigation. How sad is thta??

kiteflying · 12/07/2007 11:07

congrats mumtogeorge. How lovely to have a new tv. We are still watching my ten years old analogue 45 cm screen and DP has been angling for a plasma (men!) but I just point to the mahoosive baby list and he backs down.

kiteflying · 12/07/2007 11:10

growing, i found out yesterday that homebirths are not covered by insurance in Australia either and private midwives only - no cover by the health service there. Hopefully we will be back in blighty for birth no. 2 then.

mum2george · 12/07/2007 11:11

Thanks Kite, DH doesn't get many treats so he's over the moon .

growingbagpuss · 12/07/2007 11:12

Ah Kite - erm... that's confused me - when are you going to Oz? Have I missed something?

Washersaurus · 12/07/2007 11:13

OOooh congrats on the new tv Mum2george! We have 2 plasma tv's as DH is a bit of a tech geek.

Doubt I can blame anaemia for my tiredness when I was tested a few weeks ago my iron levels were better than my midwives (we eat lots of spinach LOL), so it MUST be that i have been working too hard...ha ha!

Kite - I may be 'about to pop' , but I did have those stabbing type pains a few weeks ago (they have thankfully now stopped) they really made me jump and shout 'ouch' - not very nice at all!

kiteflying · 12/07/2007 11:26

thanks washer - I have been known to have harsh words with LO over these pains as they really hurt! And it is not like labour when I hope to sense pain coming on and go into a lovely trance! (Oh how I hope I do not regret this confidence in my ability to stay hypnotised when we all meet up on a post natal thread!)

growingbagpuss - we leave for Australia in Nov/Dec to spend most of my ML there setting up home near to my sister, who gives birth to her own first baby in mid December! It is all very exciting. Then back to UK next Aug/Sept to go back to work and start back on IVF (grrr). Then hope to take two babies home to Australia for good at some point in 2009.

That is the plan anyway. And we all know that plans are something dangerous to make around babies.

Hope this is not TMI and someone out there is going to recognize my RL self.

itchyncsratchy · 12/07/2007 11:56

hi everyone,

I'm here in sunny Edinburgh at last! Arrived Sunday night still no luggage, bloody BA! My plane actually crash landed in Nairobi -yes crashed - missed run way/ lost wheels/ slid on nose high speed across grassy banks until stopping in middle of runway. Had emergency evacuation, had to actually JUMP from door with hysterical passengers pushing behind. Refused a trip to hospital in Nairobi as no way I was missing connection. Thank god for business seat, slept flat out whole journey. Babe busy bouncing as usual, but have had worse cold/ flu ever since Saturday. Today first time I've started feeling normalish..

So there's the rant! On good news, yesterday I ventured out and bought a whole heap of beautiful half price baby clothes in Monsoon and John Lewis. Won't be doing it again though, the effort of shopping almost killed me. Esp as Tesco direct came 30 mins early and wouldn't redeliver so I finished off the day doing massive shop on foot too. Thank the lord for teen son. He's home for the hols and has morphed into tall strapping bag carrying lad!

itchyncsratchy · 12/07/2007 12:00

actually I have a question

have you all bought newborn sizes for first vests/ babygros etc? They look so small. I'm sure ds was straight into 1-3 months, but maybe a girl will be smaller?

itchyncsratchy · 12/07/2007 12:13

and breast pumps.. has anyone bought one yet? I've been looking at avent and medela.

dal21 · 12/07/2007 12:15

Hi Itchy - i asked a similar question re. the newborn sizes and have bought a few basics (vests/ sleepsuits etc) in newborn size. Got the multi packs from mothercare so even if LO is only in them for a few weeks/ days - is wasnt a huge outlay. Also think that lots of people will buy 0-3 months stuff so not buying a mammoth amount of clothing now (esp not sure what flavour we are having)

Annie75 · 12/07/2007 12:15

Ooh, Kite, I'd missed the fact that you were leaving for Oz in the autumn. How exciting. Where will you be? I travelled round the country a few years ago and my brother lives out in Perth. Great place to bring up kids.

Welcome back to Blighty, Itchy!

kiteflying · 12/07/2007 12:27

Welcome back itchy - at the crash landing and how calm you were about it.

Annie, we will be in Qld with all the sun, humidity and insects! Oh, I am so hating the prospect of all those insects.
I grew up in Australia myself (Melbourne) but am sure life for kids is rather different now. We certainly had a lot of freedom and would spend all day roaming around the countryside on weekends up at our farm. Never any supervision - just a curfew time.

In any event I'm quite pleased not to be faced with choosing schools in central London. As it is, I have already started thinking about nursery places for next August - all the TEDS scheme murseries seem to be Montessori and I don't really want LO in a quasi-school environment at 1 yr old. Thinking about going for childcare vouchers and a CM instead as hopefully not a matter of long waiting lists then. Can't quite face discussing this with DP yet but would love him to spend three days at home with her/him instead.

conkertree · 12/07/2007 12:27

kiteflying - i had those pains in the last few weeks - kept thinking it might mean it was moving down - or else trying to burrow its way out hands first.

itchy - glad you got here in one piece - sounds like a bit too exciting a plane trip for this far through pregnancy. but you seemed to have coped very well.

we have bought one new born pack (3 vests 3 sleepsuits in white) from mothercare, and then 3 newborn size coloured all in one sleepsuits, and reckon if its really big, we can buy more later.

guess we are in our window now - neither dh nor i slept well last night - we had quite a long chat at about 3.30am - was quite nice, but maybe we should be trying more of what babymad suggests. sure dh would be up for it - not sure about me. last time a week or so ago - sorry if tmi - was a bit painful.

today is my deadline for myself to be cleared up at work for all essentials, and can then spend the next few days just tidying things on the computer and so on (hopefully) so that things are organised when i come back - so guess i should get off this until lunchtime at least and actually do some work.
