Hi everyone, I have been lurking on and off this week as have been so busy.

I saw my midwife on tuesday and everything looks ok; baby wouldn't stay still enough for her to listen to the heartbeat though...it does seem to be a very fidgety baby. Head still not engaged though and am due in less than 2 weeks now, I wonder when it will happen this time?

You all look fab in the bluewater pic btw - personally I'm avoiding all cameras at the moment as my hair has recently turned to crazy frizz and don't have time to straighten....ever! DS barely gives me a minute to brush my teeth or go to the loo

It is DS' 2nd birthday today so have also been busy this week doing domestic goddess stuff in the kitchen (well actually my attempt at birthday cake was more like biscuit, so DH made another which I decorated - he was convinced I'd used the wrong ingredients or something....as if?!).

My lovely mum has really cheered me up this week as she purchased a phil and teds for me (as a suprise) from america, as she lives over there - we've just got to figure out how to get it here now ...

Oh, AND DH managed to get himself a promotion at work already (he's only been there about 6 weeks!!). He has been working REALLY really hard, so I'm pleased it has been acknowledged so quickly .

Oh Growingbagpuss I'm relieved I'm not the only with poorly bits - I've been really uncomfortable the past few days . I don't suppose you've got any tips on relieving the pain?

There you go, my week's round up in one post...sorry about that

bananabump · 20/07/2007 07:11

Morning! Hey washer, good news about hubby's promotion, mine is due a raise "in august" so hoping management haven't forgotten!

Had a bad night with my spd, somehow I think I set it off lying diagonally across the bed earlier in the day (which means much more rolling/using the hips and knees to get up, which irritates it) and last night I just couldn't move once I'd got on my left side, literally.

Woke up at 5.45am with a full bladder, absolutely unable to roll over so I started to panic. Eventually moved somehow and pelvis gave a huge and painful crack. Wish I could go back to bed now but I'm a bit worried in case I get stuck on the bed all day and dp isn't here to "save" me! Got so much to do today as well, typical!

Hey, just a thought, does anyone know how old our babies will be when they have to start school? I don't really know how these thing work, will they be the youngest in their class (so 4 presumably) or the oldest (5)?

lizziemun · 20/07/2007 07:20

bananabump,

If baby by the 31st august then they will be the youngest in the class, if born late on the 1st September they will be the oldest in the year.

bananabump · 20/07/2007 07:27

Christ, no chance of that then with this lo due on aug 4th! if he stays in til sept 1st I'll not be impressed...

lizziemun · 20/07/2007 07:30

Sorry that didn't make sense, i can't type with a dd trying to do cuddles and bump not very happy at being squished.

The cut of point is the 31st August. So if the baby is 5 before the 31st august then they will be the youngest in the school class, but if they are born on 1st September they will be the oldest and be nearly 6 when they school.

Hope that makes more sense

growingbagpuss · 20/07/2007 07:36

Sadly no tips on alleviating the sore bits - other than lying down lots!!

I kicked DH out last night and he slept (like a log) on the airbed downstairs..... I had the first restful night in maybe 2 weeks... BLISS!! I still woke up, for wees and drinks and DS needing a wee, but I feel Like a real human today..... let the nesting begin.

My back ached some much last night I was convinced I wasgoing into labour.... but sadly no such luck.

bananabump · 20/07/2007 07:47

Thanks Lizzie

Bagpuss I know what you mean, if spd carries on this way dp will be relegated to spare room too, it's bad enough not being able to turn over physically, also not fun to spend half an hour trying to turn over, finally manage it only to be confronted by dp snoring face to face with you, open mouthed with deathly morning breath! Lovely!

bananabump · 20/07/2007 07:50

Oh and (sorry for posting frenzy) as for sore bits...are the sorey because baby has dropped or is it just a burning/stinging/throbbing pain? Mine is and as I said, I suspect a varicose vein although can't feel/see anything (sorry, tmi!) I don't know how to stop the pain either, but I know sitting on hard chairs makes it worse.

Roll on september when hopefully the only pain we'll have is sore nips!

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 20/07/2007 08:27

Good Morning ladies,

Sounds like we have all had enough now! with all our sore bits and painful hips!
Bluewater was great and it was good to meet you all! AHve to do it again with the LO when we are orgernised enough!

Had midwife yesterday, all well and Baby had defently moved down which is great, she is also coming round today to finally do the homebirth talk that she should have done last week!.
Have a busy day today as had a phone call to say that ofstead (im a childminder) are coming round tuesday to do an inspection, there is so much paperwork that we have to do so i be stuck in that most of the day trying to get my Preg brain to work ( stopped doing that about 7 months ago )

growingbagpuss · 20/07/2007 08:51

Bananabump - i think it is a combination of the 2 - baby dropping and placing more pressure, and for me def veins - if i twist and bend with a mirror underneath I can just see the lovely things !! Soooooo ope the rumours about VV going after are true!!

The ones in my legs are so impressive, that last night I could actually take my pulse by putting a finger on one of them ... how's that for a party trick?

I find sitting or standing for long periods is equally bad, so try and alternate... but also as I have support tights it does help a bit.... mind you, they are getting a bit tight over the tummy too now...... COME ON BABY!!!!

myweegirl · 20/07/2007 09:33

morning - think we are all starting to get fed-up now. i've been looking for old wives tales to start labour off (now that i'm over 37 weeks) but if baby is not ready to come none of them are likely to help. here's the list i've found so far...

-)fresh pineapple - though you have to eat -about 7 full pineapples
-)sex
-) tweaking your nipples (sounds painful!)
-) sage and jasmine essential oils rubbed into your bump
-) reflexology
-) castor oil
-)spicy food
-) massaging in circular movements between your thumb and forefinger
-)long walk
-) gardening
-) hot bath
-) driving fast over speed bumps?!? ouch!

growingbagpuss · 20/07/2007 10:19

I think the nipple tweaking thing has to be done rather excessively... so unless you have absoultely nothing else to do, and no-one around, it's not much good.....

Lavendar baths have been suggested - for stimulating the uterus

Curry...... that's an old one... along the lines of castor oil.

I think babies are a bit like buses - there will be none for ages, and then several will come at once !! Also, the more you aim for them to be on tme, or rush to be ready -the later they will be. Easier said than done, but I do think the trick is to remain busy and distracted from the whole labour bringing on thing....

That said.... that would require NOT being on MN all the time. Not sure I could live without it now..... very addictive!

GillL · 20/07/2007 10:24

Morning all. Having a lazy day today, although dh put some oven cleaner on last night and left it for me to clean up this morning. That's all done though. Managed to persuade dd to watch cbeebies in her bedroom so I could come upstairs to join you guys.

Surestart midwife came round yesterday and told me about a new midwife led, low risk, home-from-home birth centre in my local hospital. Would be ideal in case I don't get my homebirth (should find out next week from the consultant if all is ok). Dh told me he's still not too happy about it but he knows it's what I want.

Glad you had a better night's sleep growingbagpuss. I seem to be in a pattern of waking every night between 1:30 and 2:00, then again at about 4:00, again at 6 and then when the alarm goes off at 7 for dh. Dd normally wakes up around 7 too so I don't get a lay in.

I'm up for the texting too.

conkertree · 20/07/2007 10:58

moning everyone - finally finished work on wed -went for a very nice lunch with dh and then to see harry potter to celebrate.

Went to be on wed about 10 and slept till 9.10 - the longest sleep I've had in months (only one loo trip too). so was very nice. did not very much yesterday apart from tidying the house, and today off to get hair cut with purplerabbit as she also finished work on wed.

have started trying a few of the things on the list to get things moving but only for fun - quite happy for it to come when its ready (although that may well change next week as I can see me getting bored of the TV and being at home quite quickly). Trying not to spend too much money just now as not entirely sure how its going to be when mat pay starts. ah well - will just have to cope.

Wont be on so often now till we sort out a home computer (going to go and look at that orange deal - 14.99 a month for broadband with a free laptop today) but will try and pop on when i can to see how things are going.

JSer · 20/07/2007 10:58

Sorry to hear about all the sore bits! And glad you had a good meet-up.

I read that you definately shouldn't drink castor oil as it will just bring on painful stomach cramps which aren't contractions and generally make you feel sh*te without starting labour!

Had a mad week of baby-related appointments. parentcraft, aquanatal, health visitor and midwife...have done very little work but trying to be extra good today.

Still breech, booked in for a presentation scan in about 10 days to give it some time to do the "grand twirl" as the m/w referred to it! I think it's trying to twirl as it moves a lot but somehow can't quite make it! Hope other breeches are better at twirling.

conkertree · 20/07/2007 10:58

that was - went to bed on wed.

growingbagpuss · 20/07/2007 11:04

How can you sleep so long? I couldn't manage that without at least 2 snack wakeings.... I die if I haven't eaten by 8...I couldn't have slept that long even when I wasn't pregnant and knackered!!

Ah, here comes the rain... bit dark and gloomy here. Supposed to be going to a "friends" for a spitfire flyover today.... not exactly thrilled at the prospect, so the low cloud, severe weather warnings etc are all very welcome. I just wish the'd decide to cancel and then I can ring DS's nursery and tell them we're not picking him up early after all!!

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 20/07/2007 11:35

Have a good time bagpuss - raining here now!

Morning everyone! I think I had the worst nights sleep ever last night; I was absolutely convinced at one point that I was going into labour my backache and braxton hicks were so intense!! I was half petrified and half relieved at the prospect, as I am getting to the stage where I have had enough now.

I think my sore bits are vein related too but am too scared to have a look. I also have piles (sorry TMI) which are most uncomfortable . So, the veins are supposed to go away afterwards are they?...please say yes!

Poor DH got up at about 2am too as he thought there was something the matter with baby as I was out of bed....HE soon dozed back off though.

I think it was just from over doing it over the last few days in preparation for DS' birthday yesterday, so am taking it very easy today (eating birthday cake and lounging on sofa while DS plays with new toys). We can't go out in this weather anyway...faaar to wet

I am attempting to cash in on DH's triumphant mood following the promotion by convincing him that xmas in Florida at my mum's is the way to go this year (need something to look forward to after the birth and we haven't had a hol this year). He isn't sure about travelling with such a small baby though. I told him it would be DS that would be more likely to be a problem (but even he was fine when we went over twice last year)....so fingers crossed

Augustbride · 20/07/2007 11:52

Count me in for the texting - tried to explain to DH how to post on here but I can't see it happening!

growingbagpuss · 20/07/2007 11:56

Washy - allegedly the veins are caused by the enlarged uterus - piles and vv - they are the same thing really - its just that the piles lives somewhere particular!!

I've been told that they should go back by about 3 months postnatal.... so as far as I'm concerned, that's YET another reason for the LO to arrive ASAP!

Sorry for your bad night - you have my sympathies. I am astounded at how much better I feel for having 1 good night.
I put a lot of my sleeplessness down to feeling every twinge, and thinking.. "is this it" -despite havingbeen there, done it, and know damn well that when it really IS IT - there will be NO DOUBT!!

You will not get to hosp and suddenyl think, blimey, I'm in labour.... you will know.

growingbagpuss · 20/07/2007 12:05

hurrah!! Spitfire has been cancelled!!

Now i can enjoy the rest of my day without being dragged out ,and everyone poking me, and going "oooooooh how long have you got to go....?"

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 20/07/2007 12:08

i know what you mean August bride about dh! He would also read all my post!

Growing, glad it has been cancelled for you! a nice rest now!
Im going to pop to shops after taking ds to school, its either now or first thing tomorrow morning with him ill go now!

Washersaurus · 20/07/2007 12:09

Thats just it though Growingbagpuss it DID feel quite like the early stages of labour with DS...that started early morning though which felt a lot more civilised than if it happened in the middle of the night; I got myself up, showered, dressed, and got my stuff ready to go etc. before I even bothered waking DH

Whereas last night I was thinking how terrible it would be for DS if he woke up this morning and found I wasn't here (my friend who DS is very fond of has volunteered to look after him when necessary), but DS is very fond of his routines!
