mum2george - i'm 37weeks today, which is when i had DD, so i'll do an eeek with you. though i've been doing some research and sometimes the head can be engaged for about 6 weeks before an appearance is made.

SweetyDarling · 18/07/2007 15:30

Hmmm Mum2G, I guess I'll have to wait for a nesting urge to strike, otherwise DS will have to put up with chemical ridden, mitt-pawed clothes. He's only going to poo and puke on them! It is becoming clear that I will not be an alpha mum!

myweegirl · 18/07/2007 15:30

lovelybird - i'm getting a bit anxious too about the birth...and about how long it could take to get to the hospital depending on when i go into labour. i'm sure it will be all fine but just trying to plan and worry for every eventuality.

loler · 18/07/2007 15:31

I was fully engaged with dd from 34 weeks but she was only a day early! Was just really uncomfortable!

When I cut dds finger with clippers had to go to doctors as there was so much blood - didn't just traumatise her! With ds was told off by MW as he was scratching his face - couldn't bring myself to cut his nails and he wouldn't keep mitts on! One of the many worries I had forgotten about!

myweegirl · 18/07/2007 15:43

i'm hoping that i won't have as many worries this time round...looking back some of them were very irrational (and funny). but at the time they were so real and big - think also all the conflicting advice didn't help (like how to/not to cut nails)

must go and do some housework before picking up DD from childminder...

mum2george · 18/07/2007 15:44

MIL & FIL have announced that they are away for 10 days and go the day after my due date . They keep saying if we need anything just ask, but that will be a bit difficult if they aren't here! Or is that just me thinking its a bit unreasonable?

Anyway, have been feeling a bit rough so DH phoned them and asked if they could have DS for a couple of hours and they've said they will have him all day. So guess who's been asleep nearly all day Its lovely. And pre-school have phoned to say that they can fit him in for a full day tomorrow.

Bananabump, don't worry, I'm scoffing loads.

Annie, I've read those figures too but when I bf DS I was eating more like 1500 extra calories a day. It makes you wonder how they work these things out.

JSer, we did the clock thing too. When the MW was summing up and saying how much free time we had left one couple pointed out that they still hadn't fed the other twin, so glad I'm just having one

bananabump · 18/07/2007 15:49

Sweety, in boots the maternity pads are kept with the breastpumps/breastpads/feeding stuff etc, I expected them to be with the sanitary towels, but nooo... Superdrug keep them with the towels.

Big brown bath towels, I've just packed a couple of manky old towels to be honest, dp has a vile red and grey towel with "playboy" across the front, it'd be a real shame if that got ruined....

Wow, so you guys had yours early? Isn't it strange that none of us have popped yet on this thread then? Wonder if anyone goes before next week?

jem1969 · 18/07/2007 15:58

Afternoon all
Have just come back from the labour ward! No baby yet though! Had a bit of a scare this morning when (TMI alert) something came out when I was in the shower. (At least I think it did- it may have been in the shower already ) and then I decided that the baby had gone quiet. Phoned the MW who sounded really panicky and told me to go to hospital. Everything seems fine- had continous monitoring and an internal- 1cm dilated- and v soft cervix.(am 35+5) Assured me this didn't mean I was about to go into labour but that when I did it would hopefully be quickish when I did- I will now be the one with a 72 hour labour...The baby also started jumping around as soon as I was hooked up. Was quite convenient as was going in this aftrenoon for my hospital tour anyway so found the woman and she gave me my own private tour. Was quite reassuring as keep hearing how short staffed and busy it is and was expecting something out of ER whereas in fact it was really quiet with loads of staff just milling around.
Am now thinking I really should get round to packing those bags...
Hope you all had fun at Bluewater(Lakeside?)

mum2george · 18/07/2007 15:58

Sweetydarling, I'm no alpha Mum! More like a lazy old tart, have only just washed up last nights tea dishes. Just a bit paranoid about washing LO's stuff as I wash mine before I wear new stuff. If I don't I can't stop itching.

Lovelybird, welcome back, and where do you get the energy for all that work from? Is that nesting?

Hope everyone has had a nice time at the RL meet up. I'm off to get tea and am actually going out tonight so will probably catch up again tomorrow.

growingbagpuss · 18/07/2007 16:13

Hello All - had a nice time without us?

That was a fun experience.... we all played "spot the pregnant woman" -I nearly disgraced myself by identifiyng someone as pregnant who clearly actually WASN'T OOPS!!

TT has a picture to post of us bunch of round tummied birds.

We had a lovely time, a bit of waddling, some shopping, nice cake and coffee. I have come home and slept, and now really ought to sort out the ironing before picking up DS from nursery.
Apparently I looked so crap this morning that even the Nursery staff commented. Happy days!!

I would happily eat tonnes - but get a really acidy feeling in my tummy - not like heartburn, just nasty acid. I think it might be to do with being tired. We are going through about 4 pints of milk in 2 days right now - as its the only thing I really want to have!

SweetyDarling · 18/07/2007 16:13

Oh M2G, didn't mean to infer that you are an Alpha Mum (not that there's anything wrong with it!) just that I'm a lazy cow clearly unaffected by PFB syndrome!

Jem, did they think it was a show that came out in the shower??

jem1969 · 18/07/2007 16:31

sweety- not sure really. It looked like a bit of overcooked meat to be honest and if I hadn't been in the shower that's what I would have thought it was i.e. a bit opf last night's supper! Wasn't what I thought a 'show' would look like!
When the doctor did an internal he thought it might have been a show but there wasn't really any blood (sorry- all so gross!)

Babylovesmuffins · 18/07/2007 16:49

Glad to hear the RL meet up went well Bagpuss. Look forward to seeing the photos!!

Jem glad to hear you're ok - sounds like things could be happening soon!! You've given me a scare as I'm 35 weeks today and haven't packed my bags at all yet!! Take it easy!

MyWeeGirl - sorry for moaning about getting up twice a night to use the loo I can't imagine going 5 times a night - you poor thing . It could be that I haven't been drinking enough fluids up till now - hence the UTI

Banana - LOL at your DP's Playboy towel - my DH wants me to wear his black "Porn Star" t-shirt in labour - he thought it would be ironic

I'm sure someone will have news soon!! We can't all wait till our due dates or later surely??

lizziemun · 18/07/2007 16:53

mum2george

I would say the in laws going away for 10 after your due date would be a blessing in my eyes.

As it is my in laws have decided to come back a week early in case we need them.

bananabump

I have been having a lot of braxton hicks, like last night but i find i do when i do a lot of walking. I am only 34 weeks, funny i don't reminber getting them last time.

I am still waiting to get apitite (sp) to arrive.

SweetyDarling · 18/07/2007 16:55

I wonder what the record is for the Antenatal thread with the latest first baby(does that make sense? )

Annie75 · 18/07/2007 17:27

Ooh Jem - you had me all excited then. I thought I was reading a 'It's Started' posting! I am so excited for everyone.

Yes, have had strong Branston Hicks for last week or so, but then again I think I started getting them at about 5 months. Sweety - I don't get up in the night either and think it must be because of breech. My bump feels really weird today - lower and v, v tight. Don't think it's moved though...

Can't wait to see the photos - really glad you had a nice time meeting up. Must've been a sight - a gaggle of women, all about the same pregnant size wandering round Bluewater .

SweetyDarling · 18/07/2007 17:42

Who had the biggest bump??

bananabump · 18/07/2007 18:05

Glad you had a nice time, guys!

On other antenatal threads I used to spy on they used to have text buddies so if one person went into labour they would let the rest of the thread know, I don't know how they worked it out exactly but it's an interesting idea, what does everybody think?

growingbagpuss · 19/07/2007 08:42

Its hard to say who had the biggest bump - me and TT are due soonest so probably us !!

Text buddies sounds like a good idea - like you I'm not sure how we'd do it.

I've certainly had lots more tightenings, and a bit of back ache but that's probably becase I over did it yesterday. I tried to do the ironing, but couldn't summon the strength to stand up for more than 5 minutes at a time!

I slept on the blow up bed last night, and got more sleep in one night than in the whole of the rest of the week so far!! Then I got rotten heartburn at 5, so that was the ned of that. Fell asleep at 6, to be woekn 15 minutes later by the darling DS!!

Hersetta · 19/07/2007 08:53

hope all you Bluewater ladies had a great time yesterday.

I went to a work leaving do (not mine!)last night and didn't get home till 10.45 so am flagging a bit this morning. Drinking my decaf latte at the moment won't help much I suspect!

I too am really surprised that we've had no-one pop yet - I have been keeping an eye on the previous months ante natal threads and there are always a few that go early. perhaps we are all such good incubators that our baby's don't want to leave us just yet! I've lurked a few times on the August thread on the Bounty message board and they've already had 4/5 women who have popped. Don't like bounty web site though - seems to be inhabited by much younger women who type in text speak and how can I say it politely, are a bit chavvy.

Text buddies sound good to me though Banana - my DH has got a list of people he needs to text to arrounce ourLO#s arrival so it would be easy to add one more to the list.

SweetyDarling · 19/07/2007 09:11

Ohh deacf Hersetta - yueuch!! Def go the real stuff - better for you anyway!
I wish I could have made it to the meet-up. Sound like fun!
Imagine if someone had told you 10 years ago that you would be chatting to pregnant women on the internet and agreeing to meet up for coffee and a waddle about the shops!

Hersetta · 19/07/2007 09:37

i must admit the decaf pods we have a work (plus a cappacino machine frother) taste great - just like regular. You just don't get that buzz afterwards!

myweegirl · 19/07/2007 11:39

argh! my straightners have just died

i have got thick, frizzy, completely uncontrollable hair and really need them! at the moment i've got one side of my hair straight and smooth and the other looks like a poodle that's had a perm.

Babylovesmuffins · 19/07/2007 11:55

oh that's a nightmare about your straighteners Myweegirl - my hair is thick and frizzy too and I'm lost without my straighteners!! The weather doesn't help much at the moment either - it just seems to make the frizz worse.

Feeling quite emotional today. I finish up at work tomorrow and one of the girls that I hardly know gave me a little white cardi that she'd knitted herself for the baby Bless.

SweetyDarling · 19/07/2007 12:00

BLM - at least you hadn't done half your hair! Straight on one side and firzzy on the other could be even worse!!
Is it Illy Hersetta? I've hear their decaf is pretty good. But isn't decaf meant to be worse for you when preg than normal coffee? I can't be bothered with coffee without a kick unless it's late at night!
