bbell i was thinking of something along those lines!

TwittleBee · 17/03/2019 08:42

Yeah that's a lovely day to share the news BBell2 !

Stuck inside on Day 6 of potty training. DS is doing well, will go when prompted if he needs to and will let me know when he needs to go but I am too scared to go out because he hasn't managed the poop yet - he is very poop shy!

Stroan · 17/03/2019 08:44

@whisky2014 tax free childcare means you'll only pay 80% of that. Childcare vouchers are marginally better when you have one in childcare but I don't think you can still join a scheme

Both me and DH woke up yesterday with horrendous colds. I knew mine was coming as couldn't stop sneezing on Friday. My whole face just throbbed yesterday. DH is awful when he feels ill, so he just took himself off to bed and moaned that the paracetamol weren't strong enough. It took all my energy not to moan at him, I'm also ill, pregnant with twins and can't take more than paracetamol anyway, and dealing with DS while he lays in bed. He's feeling alot better this morning so is going to take DS out while I get some rest. Why are men so crap with man flu?!

Stroan · 17/03/2019 08:49

Hit send too soon!

When they are three, you'll start to get free hours too. We've kept DD at her private nursery for hers (can't logistically manage three hour sessions at a school nursery) and our bill reduced by £200 per month.

Also, because full time is often discounted, 4 days can work out nearly as expensive. I work 3 days now and calculated that going up to 4 days would only leave me £20 a month better off.

Oh @boodles101 that's so unfair. You should stay in bed today and do absolutely nothing.

DH is generally very good but was running a conference this week and stayed in a hotel for 4 days. My Mum came to help with DD (and partly look after me as I can't even open the fridge without retching!) but all I've heard since he got home was how tired and "drained" he is. I've got a chest infection, I'm pregnant and have had a wriggly 3yo in sleeping in my bed all week. He is not my favourite person this weekend.

He is normally very helpful and wonderful with DS. He just goes to pieces when he's ill. Thankfully it's not very often so I just tried to tell myself yesterday that if it was a working day, he'd be at work anyway and I'll be in the same situation.

DustyDoorframes · 17/03/2019 09:22

Ugh @boodles101 get well soon! And @Stroan so do you get a week in a hotel next week?!?

Re work- it has made a massive difference to us that we are both part time. We are both freelance, and when DC1 was born had such fluctuating income that committing to paying for childcare seemed insane, so when I started working again we split the week (about half each, but it varies), and have always done that since. It gets a bit hairy from time to time when we have both overcommitted (working late at night and all weekend...), but it's brilliant in so many ways. The kids have a brilliant bond with both of us, we both pitch in pretty equally to run the house. The 15 free hours have kicked in about the same time as the next DC has come along, which has been good for baby bonding, but not so useful for work.
We are both in very good places workwise now though, and had been counting on DC2's nursery hours kicking in in September to both work more. Oops. I may have to take less leave this time, and look into paid childcare for DC and feel ferociously guilty even contemplating it, as the first two had tons of parent time...

DustyDoorframes · 17/03/2019 09:23

Guilty just because it's not fair across the family, not because I think there's anything wrong with using childcare in general!!!
Also @ZigZaggyZoo woot scan buddy!

Morning everyone Smile

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone for being so lovely the other day, I’m feeling a lot more human after a couple of good night’s sleep and have managed to stop catastophising.

Boodles sorry to hear you’re not well. This definitely needs to be one of the times your DH steps up.

BBell, TwittleBee I was really cautious about telling PIL because they phoned the whole family to tell our engagement news despite us telling them that we wanted to share it ourselves. But DH was really blunt about them having to keep it to themselves this time and we think they listened.

I’ve still not told my dad, we don’t have a good relationship so think I might wait a few more weeks. Also not told any friends that I haven’t seen in person. Dropping a “hey, I’m pregnant” text felt a bit weird but no idea what the done thing is.

IVEgottheDECAF · 17/03/2019 10:22

My head is banging again Sad hopefully daily headaches isnt going to be my new thing

MyBreadIsEggy · 17/03/2019 12:19

Illness is still very much alive and kicking in my house too Sad
I’m shivery, massive headache and sore throat.
DS has also been struck down with a similar thing and is utterly miserable bless him Sad

DustyDoorframes · 17/03/2019 12:32

Ouf decaf no fun at all!! (Incidentally- in Italy pregnant women with headaches are told to have a cup of coffee- a couple a day is fine)

eggy get well soon!

MyBreadIsEggy · 17/03/2019 15:53

Dusty That’s brilliant Grin I can imagine caffeine withdrawal could be quite tough on Italian pregnant women! Real Italian coffee is like speed!!!

Megan2018 · 17/03/2019 19:19

I’ve got my next MW appt tomorrow- here they do a 15wk instead of 16wk although I’ll only be 14+4 as midwife away the following week.
Will report back -I don’t imagine it’ll be very exciting!

challengeyourreality · 17/03/2019 20:10

@DustyDoorframes that sounds like a great set up. I work for myself too and dp has very flexible job (leaves at 7, home by 4; can work from home once a week) but I seem to always over commit so that when I have jobs on I might aswell be in an office full time with commute for all the available time I have to play/be with dc. I'm looking to employ someone to keep going through maternity period but I'm struggling to make decisions. I thought the preg hormones were not affecting me so much but my indecision about work is definitely not like me.

Taylou · 17/03/2019 21:52

Hello! Just read through the thread - I haven't posted since the first thread! Feeling a little more secure now, had some lovely scans. Due 23rd September, I think someone else is the same?
2nd trimester is definitely easier on me so far, getting my energy levels back. I'm already huge though and this is my first! I think because I was pretty slim, nearly underweight before getting pregnant, and eating all the time was the only way to help the nausea. I've gained about 5kg Blush. My anatomy scan is 22nd April, I'm definitely finding out gender. Had an NIPT test but my doctor doesn't offer gender results!

Oh and I'm another one not sure about surnames. DP and I are unmarried, we'll probably use his name but I'm thinking of mine as a second middle - and I'll do the same for me if/when we do tie the knot. Interesting situation for us because DP's first name is the same as my surname, different spelling - think like his first name is John and my surname is Jon. So if we use mine as a middle DP will be "John Smith" and baby will be "Name Middlename Jon Smith".

TwittleBee · 18/03/2019 08:06

Hey welcome back Taylou glad all seems to be going well with you and baby!

Megan2018 good luck for the app today!

Oh 14 weeks and still throwing up. Looks like that week break I had from it was just a trick! Guessing this sickness is going to last until 3rd trimester like it did with DS

Fortheloveofscience · 18/03/2019 08:20

Lovely scan pics Taylou.

TwittleBee I had a week of no vomiting and limited nausea, then have been sick without warning the last 2 evenings. Heading to 14 weeks, glad to know it’s normal (but annoying) for the sickness to come back.

Megan2018 · 18/03/2019 08:40

I’m still throwing up too. Everytime I brush teeth, certain smells and sometimes for no reason. 14+4
I feel fine in between but think the smell sensitivity and teeth are going to stay sadly!

challengeyourreality · 18/03/2019 08:51

Hopefully the nausea will go over in the next week, mine has just stopped - the past few days really (15+3). I know that the HCG levels are highest until 16 weeks so maybe as they steady the nausea and sickness will too. A fun story behind knowing that is that in my area you can donate your urine when pregnant to charities who extract the HCG hormone and use it to make medicine to treat women with fertility difficulties. They only accept it until 16 weeks.

MyBreadIsEggy · 18/03/2019 09:35

I’m still feeling sick but haven’t actually vomited in a while. I’ve been just generally ill for weeks now though Sad Not moved off the sofa all weekend while DH took the helm.
I absolutely hate the fact that all we can take is paracetamol Hmm Usually, I’d wake o feeling like this, drug myself up to the gills with flu tablets, ibuprofen etc and just crack on with my day. But just paracetamol isn’t touching it. I might as well have smarties instead Hmm Feeling pathetic.

IVEgottheDECAF · 18/03/2019 10:11

15+4 and was sick this morning

Have since eaten and feel ok now just tired. Always tired. Getting somewhere between 8 and 10 hours a night but broken by toilet trips and dc4 waking unable to find his dummy. Yawn.

Anyone made any pram decisions?

Megan2018 · 18/03/2019 10:27

MW appt was predicably pointless. They didn’t have my name down so had to wait an hour. They took urine sample and BP. All ok.
They had to ring hospital to get all my results from booking in and the extra ones taken at hospital. Again all ok.
Signed form for HV.
That’s it until 24 weeks!

IVEgottheDECAF · 18/03/2019 10:29

I think here they listen to heartbeat at 16 weeks app, but with you being only 14 they might not

I have been discharged from consultant led care. For now.

16 wk app next week with mw, scan four weeks on thursday.
