Hi,

It looks like we filled up the last thread before anyone had a chance to start a new one, so here we go! Hope everyone finds their way over.

@twittlebee could you possibly link to the Google Doc again?

@karigan195 so glad you were seen again and got a bonus scan. Lovely to get a bit of reassurance too, hope the next 7 days go quickly for you.

Aberdeen, so there is only one hospital.

Fortheloveofscience · 22/02/2019 08:31

This thread moves a lot in 24 hours!

@Megan2018 thanks for replying. Spoke to GP this morning who said I should just use hydrocortisone and take piriton - good to have some advice I’m SO itchy!

I’m aiming for the MLU, it’s my first so I’m not brave enough for a home birth. My mum had 3 relatively uncomplicated births so I’m hoping I’ve inherited those genes.

TwittleBee · 22/02/2019 08:45

@Megan2018 I think it really depends on course instructor and what you want from NCT but we covered everything, including elective C-Secs and tips on how to recover from them etc. Our course instructor asked us all at the start what type of birth we are all aiming for but also if we would like to know about everything else too.

I am only 15 minutes car journey from hospital or 5 minutes via ambulance (I know that as had DS blue lighted when he had an anaphylactic shock) plus the ambulance depo is actually at the bottom of our road. I doubt I'll be advised to have a homebirth anyway, depite doing all my research into, as I am consulted led. Consultant led means they wont even let me give birth in the MLU

I still am yet to be offered a de-brief. How do you get one? DO you have to request it? I suffered PND from my last labour and think maybe it would help me.

boodles101 · 22/02/2019 09:15

twittlebee yes you have to request one. If you Google your trust and I think it's called birth after thoughts. I had one and it really helped me.
No home birth for me, I'll hopefully be going to MLU and have a much better birth than last time.

Megan2018 · 22/02/2019 09:26

We have a brilliant MLU near to me - St Mary's in Melton. It is raved about - but no good for me (consultant led) and also no chance of epidural and bloody long way from the hospitals which are in Leicester. But if you have a section in a Leicester hospital you can ask to be transferred to St Mary's afterwards and my MW has recommended that for me - she said it is amazing and you get well looked after whilst you get used to baby. They have the time to teach breastfeeding etc so best of both worlds!

abi2790 · 22/02/2019 09:38

Thank you everyone for your replies re tiredness. Yes, I'm mental! DD was 8 months when I started my undergrad but i recognise there's a big difference between that and a newborn! I think I might speak to the tutor about working from home for a few weeks as with being a masters there won't be many hours actually in uni and then I can still do the september intake without too much stress. Man-child is getting better at doing things around the house. The issue is I have to ask him to do it!

TwittleBee · 22/02/2019 09:44

@abi2790 uni are really supportive, I had a new born during my Masters and was allowed extra time on my projects without being penalised.

boodles101 · 22/02/2019 10:19

Just had the 2nd part of my booking appt and my trust now give a scan at 36 weeks too to check on size and bloodflow which I thought was really good.

stroan · 22/02/2019 10:41

Is anyone else absolutely roasting all the time? It’s only February! I haven’t slept under the duvet in weeks and I’m already sleeping with all the windows open.

Had a minor disagreement with DH last night about fans. He wants a cheap one. I am not doing pregnancy in summer with a cheap fan that just moves hot air round!

OP posts:
Fortheloveofscience · 22/02/2019 10:48

Yes! I’m currently sat in a T-shirt next to an open window. At night I’ve still got the duvet but have lost the additional pile of blankets I normally sleep under and opened the window.

TwittleBee · 22/02/2019 11:08

Here too! Usually DH thinks I am a freak as I wear fluffy PJs under the duvet and still moan I am cold but past week I have been sleeping naked and barely under the duvets. Keep getting night sweats too!

KnobJockey · 22/02/2019 11:36

Me too. Normally so cold constantly, but stripping off at night and I've constantly got a leg hanging out the duvet.

waiting4arainbow · 22/02/2019 12:05

Thanks for the reply's Re Scan.. I called and they said that was the earliest available date but there is a note on there to move me if anyone cancels 😑 it's so annoying I don't know if I should ring again and ask to be seen at a different hospital!

@Megan2018 you are near me I'm in Leicester. I heard St Mary's was closing down don't know how true that is.. I'm going to the royal anyway as I had my last two there and they saved my life when I had my ectopic so although some people don't rate the place I've never had a problem. X

Megan2018 · 22/02/2019 12:27

@waiting4arainbow
From what I gather there is a consultation about closure but no decision yet so it will still be there in September anyway.

I have put LRI down for now as I work next door so easy for scans/consultant apps but will probably move to General for actual birth as parking is better and is nearer to home by a few miles. Midwife said it is easy to change nearer the time.

I'm in a village near Oakham so right on the Leics/Rutland border. I am seeing the Rutland community midwives though.

iano · 22/02/2019 13:09

Has anyone had a glucose test? Or previous gestational diabetes.

Astret · 22/02/2019 13:53

Hello ladies, I hope it's okay to join in this thread? I was previously in an August one, but following my first scan on valentine's day we discovered I wasn't as far along as I thought, probably only about 9 weeks, which puts us on September instead! This is my first time, few of my friends have had babies recently and I'm pretty much the only female in my generation of the family so will really appreciate your advice and support!

stroan · 22/02/2019 14:02

@iano I had it in my previous pregnancy but I’m going to refuse the GTT this time. The only result ever had that was over the max range was after the GTT. There’s no way I could fast or drink the syrup anyway. I suspect I’ll have to test my bloods myself but I’m fine with that.

BBell2 · 22/02/2019 14:04

Hi @Astret, welcome.

I'm cold from feeling sick and tired all the time, no sweats yet hit it will come I was very hot and sweaty last time (also a summer pregnancy).

@butternutbee, @parent19876 we must have the same EDD. I've my dating scan a fortnight today and cannot wait! Are yours soon?

Astret · 22/02/2019 14:20

@Whiskey2014 I think it's a bit complicated, because I thought I was starting to show and then I realised I just had really bad bloating and wind thanks to the morning sickness. Before I got pregnant I spent 1yr doing weightlifting because I was trying to improve my physical health, so I've lost a lot of weight in the tummy area, but I've been reading that your hormones can make your abdominal area 'loose' as they are working to loosen up your muscles elsewhere to make room for baby. So you might notice some changes all around the midsection which are not directly related to baby growth! Especially if this is your first pregnancy.
I'm around 10weeks now and no 'showing', but scan last week did pick out baby's heartbeat.

Parent19876 · 22/02/2019 14:32

@BBell2 I just got my letter in today and my scan is on the 4th! Should be 12+2 (3?) by then!
Super anxious!
Are you excited?

Super anxious for how hot it will be this summer, I barely managed last summer not pregnant!

TwittleBee · 22/02/2019 14:50

I'm anxious for the summer heat too! Was heavily pregnant and gave birth during a heatwave with DS, was bloody awful.

MunchyMunchkin · 22/02/2019 15:03

God there best not be a heatwave this year. Work was like a sauna in last years effort and I can’t even imagine doing that whilst heavily pregnant.

I spent the hot summer days of my last pregnancy (aug baby) Hiding in the cinema. Lots of air con!

Megan2018 · 22/02/2019 15:09

DH has already suggested buying an aircon unit now as they are always cheap before a heatwave and more £ if we get one! We had one annoyingly until a few years ago then sold it as it hadn't been used for so long (our local tyre garage exchanged it for some tyres as DH knows them well!). I am half tempted to try and borrow it back....

Whisky2014 · 22/02/2019 15:24

Hi @astret Yeh i think I'm actually more bloated (or fat) than anything. Damn!

Hopefully start seeing something in the next few weeks :)

Whisky2014 · 22/02/2019 15:25

I got my result f9r the down syndrome test. Just said it's in the low risk group and that means he chance of having a baby eith downs is very small....

I thought it was going to give me an actual number?!
