Morning all, congrats all on your scans.

mad4girls - sorry to hear about your dp's reaction - hope he has got used to the news now and is beginning to feel excited instead of disappointed. It will be great for your dd's to have a little brother though

beckle - your pg sounds like mine with dd and your last two sound like my this one so i conclude that you are having a girl and I am having a boy - we'll see if I'm right!! Have our scan a week today. We're going to ask the sonographer to write it down and then go out for lunch and read it - can't wait!

We tried to use a sling (bit like the one Loucee linked to but can't remember the name) and never really took to it - dd always seemed to be so hot, even though it was the middle of winter - but will try again and see how this baby likes it

Also felt a big enough kick for dp to feel last night - unfortunately he was outside cutting the hedge at the time...

Feel ashamed of myself today. went to a 2nd birthday party yesterday and there was loads of party food for the children (chips, fish fingers, crisps etc) and I was so hungry I couldn't help myself and stuffed a load of it down!! Stealing children's food - what have I become?? Fortunately there was another pg woman there doing the same.. then got home and dp had bought me a box of chocolates so thought it would be rude not to... poor baby already full of junk food and not even 20 weeks old

mixedmama · 20/07/2007 09:22

Mad4girls - Sorry to hear DP's reaction, but I think it is better to get any dissapointment out now rather than on the day, he now has the next twenty weeks to get used to the idea and on the day he will be just as happy as you.

I have a friend who was expecting a boy, wholly and ocmpletely believed it, they didnt even pick a girls name (they didnt find out by the way) and when the baby was born it took a bit of getting used to and you dont want that when your baby is just born.

thelady · 20/07/2007 10:39

Loucee: do you think that style of sling (a fitted pouch) would work for a couple who are very different shapes? DH and I worried that it would either be too loose on him (6'1 and skinny) or not fit on me (5'7, big boobs, and cuddly).

That's why we were looking at the adjustable ring slings.

Mad4girls: I hope your DP's reaction was more surprise than disappointment. I think my DH is so sure it's a boy that it will be a bit of a shock if it isn't too!

Got well and truly kicked last night - first 'wiggles' they weren't. Obviously the tadpole objected to being poked and prodded at the scan, and was giving as good as s/he got. Really quite disconcerting, as I'd been expecting the 'bubbles' that everyone described, and this felt more like a nerve/muscle jumping inside.

skidaddle · 20/07/2007 11:12

the lady - our sling (which looked like the one loucee linked to) worked equally well for both dp and I - he is taller and skinner too (although I don't have big boobs!) - as I said the reason we didn't like it was that dd got too hot rather than being uncomfy for either of us. Think it's very much a trial and error thing - i know la leche have been known to have meetings where people bring along different brands and you can try them all - better than forking out for one that doesn't work for you...

cazzybabs · 20/07/2007 12:13

OHHHH I feel ill today - my nose will not stop running!

cazzybabs · 20/07/2007 12:43

OHH have hopefully booked my birthing pool...well I booked on-line so am waiting conformation of dates! This baby best not be too early...

Loucee · 20/07/2007 13:51

thelady when I bought the "coorie pouch" sling the fitting guide was to measure from the top of your hip to the diagonal shoulder - there were ranges that meant a Small size, range that meant a Medium size etc. So in theory one wouldn't fit you both but from experience I think it would given your two different shapes and sizes.
However, my friend has a ring sling and I would say it's as good as my coorie pouch and a thinner fabric that will keep baby cooler (but tbh I didn't have any probs with DD being too hot). Breastfeeding was a doddle with this type of sling as well (any type of "sash" type sling will be the same) as baby was already in position! When DD cluster fed in the evening it meant I didn't have to be confined to the couch.

Does anyone know when we should start pelvic floor exercises? you'll probably say I should've been doing them from day 1 but was concentrating on my separated stomach muscles!

What does everyone have planned for the weekend? I'm off to Nick Nairn's cooking school tomorrow (can't wait!) then my sister/her DH/niece are coming up on Sunday for a week.

mixedmama · 20/07/2007 13:58

Not much to be honest, got a busy one next week so probably just cleaning and stuff and DS has been at IL's whilst I have been at work so has been asleep everynight but one so looking forward to spending some time with him and the park on my development has just been finished so will be giving that a go.

skidaddle · 20/07/2007 14:03

loucee- pelvic floor exercises to start as soon as possible - you could combine tummy and pf - do them in unison?!

Enjoy Nic Nairn's, sounds great fun. We're off down south to see the Buena Vista social club play in some old stately home. Was v. excited but now quite fancy an early night and a nice book...

mad4girls · 20/07/2007 14:33

claraq · 20/07/2007 14:44

I was meant to be going to London for the day tomorrow to spend time as me and not as a mum....but with all the train cancellations due to this p**ing rain it is looking unlikely . So not much planned otherwise!

For all those who are thinking of having a VBAC delivery, I saw my consultant yesterday who explained that about 75% of people have a successful VBAC and 25% go on to have another c-section. Unfortunately you do have to be monitored very closely during labour so not much chance to move around, get in the water etc (perhaps anyone who has had a VBAC can tell me their experience of this?). There is about a 0.5% chance of the scar rupturing (ouch!) during labour which is why they monitor you so closely. I told the dr that I didn't want to be induced so I guess I will be booked in for a c-section if I go much beyond my EDD.
I go back at 36 Weeks (1st Nov - seems a loooong time away but I know it will go quick) so can still change my mind before then!

suey2 · 20/07/2007 14:59

This weekend- harry potter! Oh and a drink with my pal tonight (dare i drink alcohol in public now i am obviously PG?) Big fat curry tomorrow and hopefully loads of sleep

Housemum · 20/07/2007 18:01

Clara1 - I had a VBAC last time - it was quite a long time since last section, don't know how much difference that makes (10 years!). Waters broke, contractions didn't really get going, so I was induced 36 hours later via a drip - they were really careful about not putting too much through as they didn't want the contractions to start too strong - it did restrict movement to some extent as they wanted to monitor heartbeat almost continually, and when I was on the ball the belt kept slipping, but in general I was reasonably mobile - they just occasionally asked me to sit on the propped-up bed to get a good reading then let me move again. Don't know about water as I had fancied the idea in pregnancy but didn't want to bother at the time. (hving not had much sleep for 36 hours getting into a bath was the last thing I wanted to do!)

From induction to birth was around 8 hours - no scar problems, all went fine. So a very positive VBAC experience. Hope that helps.

suey2 · 20/07/2007 18:01

my SIL told me i hadn't put on enough weight yesterday and told me we were mad for buying a house without a big garden. I tried to explain that it was much more important that DH actually gets to see his children (commute 20 minutes) than we have a big garden- we a re also a 10 minute walk from a big park. I know she has my best interests at hear, but really

Housemum · 20/07/2007 18:38

Like you will have enough time to look after a garden??? Our garden is not huge but it's big enough - and to be honest if it was half the size it wouldn't be a problem. So long as there's enough room to put a paddling pool or kick a ball, that's all you need. Particularly if there is a park nearby - that'll get you out of the house too.

RavenclAwen · 20/07/2007 19:14

hi ladies Went swimming today with ds for a couple of hours and my legs ache

mad4girls · 20/07/2007 19:42

just thought i better change my name any good ideas lacking inspiration
would like to kepp on the mad theme

BeachBunni · 20/07/2007 19:51

Hey everyone. I had my scan today. Was a bundle of nerves and being generally snappy with dp all morning because of it, but everything is good.
Didn't find out the sex although dp thought he heard the mw slip up and say 'she' when she was going through scan - although he could be hearing things because I missed it. We both think it's a girl anyway and are talking about maybe asking at the next scan as the suspense is killing me.
Called into Next on the way home as I wanted to buy my first small thing for the baby but they didn't have anything out as they must have been getting ready for the sale tomorrow. Instead went and priced car seats. Are those isofix seats worth it dos anyone know because they seem a bit on the pricey side when we have absolutley everything still to get.
Suey - have that drink. We went to the pub earlier to celebrate and I had a small glass of red wine. Yummy.

BeachBunni · 20/07/2007 21:18

While I'm on and still awake does anyone know about the anolomy scan notes? I'm just wanting to know what the N and NS mean beside the structural bits and markers. I'm guessing 'Noted' and 'Not seen' but I am just taking a wild stab and don't have a clue. The mw said all was normal but I'm the sort of person who like to know everything when it comes to medical notes. Do any of you more experienced ladies know?

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 20/07/2007 21:41

I had my scan last Monday.I was very nervous as I did not have any screening but thank god all is well. I found out its a boy which everyone is v pleased about as we have no boys in family and dad has got two girls and three grandaughters.

I am still too nervous to buy anything as I am 21 weeks now and had a stillbirth two years ago at 24 weeks. Could not stop dh buying some boy sleepuits though they will have to go back as he bought summer ones!1 bless

buzzybee · 21/07/2007 07:13

OK so who's got the new HP book?!

kerioke · 21/07/2007 14:29

Hi all, i'm feeling a lot better the last couple of days since the family hassles, thjough i did fall down the stairs on wednesday and had to call mw out during the early hours due to really bad abdo pains... and its really irritated my spd, but each day with resting brings a huge improvement!

MAD4GIRLS - why not change to mad4babies???

CLARAQ - i think i spoke to you a week or so ago about VBAC, although i did have to wear the silly monitor belt throughout (until i took it off towards the end and refused it due to me being an awkward patient!) i could move around, they removed it when i needed a loo break and i could walk around the bed and sit on a ball, though as already mentioned the more you move around the more the darn thing moves too! in the end the mw told me i needed to stay relatively still, whcih is when i took it off, declared i needed a bath and said she could check me every 15 minutes... i guess the key is to go with your body and do what feels best. i'm sure you'll be fine.

SUEY2 - i agree that she prob has your best interests at heart and having a garden would be lovely, but making a small sacrifice for your partner is far more important, especially with the park being so close. suey you love this house and you chose it out of loads of others, its obviously meant for you ay?

hope everyone else is ok, have noticed we have a few more flavours or suprises confirmed... i will update the list at some point, but a bit busy over the weekend. we have a 2 hour drive in the morning so my son and partnber can race BMX for cornwalla dn then the drive home, so expect tomo will be a very early night!

BecklePhoenixBird · 21/07/2007 15:03

Hi all! Hope everyone is well! Congrats on the good scan BeachBunni and Congrats on your boy ChocolatePeanut! I understand your concern about buying stuff but fingers crossed all will be fine this time for you.

Baby has been kicking me in the last few days rather than just wriggling which is great, saw it for the first time this morning while I was in the bath too! Keeps kicking upwards though which can wind me a bit, wouldn't think something so small would!

Anyway, am off to Orkney in the morning, be back in a week or so, hope everyone has a good week and good luck to all those with scans!

mad4girls · 21/07/2007 18:51

hi ladies
its quiet on here today,
glad your scan went well beach bunni
chocolatepeanut- hope your worries pass soon i know you will feel much better in 4 wks, getting passed those mile stones mean soo much.

anyway i will bet getting a telling off from dp tonght as just spent over £100 in the next sale, on baby things, oops

for holiday in may thoughas the summer stuff wont really be on sale before we go, got some various size babygros as well as you always need them and one cute outfit in up to 1 month which i allowed myself as everything else i have is in 0-3 or 3-6 as i know there not in them for more than 5 mins, aww there so cute though could have bought the shop though seriously good job i had no more cash on me (already accidently borrowed/spent dd's birthday money) will pay her back asap she wont notice

anyway hope everyone is well just found out the carnival fun day that was on tomrrow is now cancelled due to this horrid weather so another boring sunday (wel until i found out dp's work need someone to cover a shift ie me) so that will be fun for 5 hours.

claraq · 21/07/2007 21:24

Mad4girls - I know what you mean about the weather spoiling plans. It's horrid when you had something planned and then it's cancelled - you feel so flat. I was meant to be in London today but couldn't go as the trains are all bolloxed up. Was meeting a friend who I have not seen in about 4 years; last time I was meant to meet her it was a hurricane which ruined our plans (long story) so I think we are cursed.

Kerioke - thanks for the stuff about being monitored during VBAC. Nice to know you can take off the monitor during labour although I will probably be too paranoid to do so! Am terrified of the scar rupturing....but you are right will just have to listen to my body. (PS if you do an update of the list could you change my due date to 1st Dec? I am just not patient enough to do things like that )

Suey2 - you really don't need a big garden with small children, lovely as it is in an ideal world. As long as you have some space to put out a paddling pool and a blanket you'll be fine especially as you have a park near by. And who is going to have time to look after it anyway?
