Well I was in for reduced movements again today (third time) and now they want me to see a consultant at 28 weeks. Feeling a bit bummed out and like I've failed somehow, stupid I know but don't know why I'm feeling so unhappy about it

Heyha · 23/02/2019 19:38

@rollerskaterdata I nearly went in last night as we'd had a really quiet day...not mega busy today either but I am aching and bump looks and feels bigger so I'm wondering if it's just growth spurt. Hope so anyway just waiting for my normal evening booting but might go in if it doesn't appear again tonight.
Can only be a good thing that they are listening and referring you on having read some of the horror stories on here. You haven't failed at all, quite the opposite, you're already looking after your little one and their best interests Flowers

hexagon01 · 23/02/2019 20:15

Second what Heyha says, it’s good that they’re listening and doing something, even though it’s all probably fine. I was in for reduced movements a bunch in my last pregnancy and ended up with extra growth scans, every time I felt like I’d been stupid but it’s just not worth the risk is it. This time I feel guilty because I’m not sure I’d notice reduced movements as I’m often so busy with my toddler that any movements just don’t register. There’s always something to feel crap about in pregnancy!

LauralovesLuke · 24/02/2019 07:38

@fee I think you may be experiencing ab separation which is really common in pregnancy.

My antenatal fitness instructor said there's things which make it worse (planking, crunches etc), but not to worry about it until after you've given birth - then do the exercises to make it come back together.

Changingagain · 24/02/2019 08:34

I did planks throughout my first pregnancy thinking keeping core strength up was a good thing. Midwife told me after delivery that the muscles had separated. I never noticed anything and haven't since (though I've never had the kind of stomach where they're visible). I do wonder if it was why my bump got so big so early on this time.

rollerskaterdata · 24/02/2019 08:40

@Heyha @hexagon01 thanks ladies, I know it's a good thing they'll be keeping an extra eye, just a bit depressing that I can't seem to get through a pregnancy without some sort of drama! I also really don't want to end up being induced, I was last time and just once I'd like to know what it feels like to go into labour naturally!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 24/02/2019 09:46

Sorry, I don't know about losing your mucus plug so I don't want to comment and say the wrong thing!

Hopefully you can still have a spontaneous labour roller. It's a good thing that they are keeping an extra eye, please don't feel like you're a 'failure'!!

I am debating about whether to call the maternity team. Had a full on day with DS yesterday who is now struggling with a massive sensory hangover (it's a kind of way of still processing yesterday's events as it was all too much for him). But didn't feel baby much yesterday, probably where I was on the move so much, and haven't felt much today yet. Am only 24 weeks so not sure if it's a bit early for "regular" movements plus with the anterior placenta it's all felt different this time anyway. Might have a coffee as that always wakes baby up!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 24/02/2019 10:08

The hot drink seemed to do the trick!! Lots of kicking!

rollerskaterdata · 24/02/2019 18:07

Thanks @KoalasAteMyHomework, and glad baby started kicking! My baby always does that, I'll go in to be checked and then next day she'll be moving loads!

Heebyjeeby99 · 24/02/2019 18:29

I'm 25 weeks and still go day's without movement and when I do get it I have to be lying down on my back for about an hour. When I called they said not to worry until 28 weeks. Plus I have anterior placenta, I think if it carries on like this post-26 weeks I'll start going in....

Heyha · 24/02/2019 18:43

I got enough movement to put my mind at rest last night but not a huge amount...decided to crack open the count the kicks app just to see today as I still wasn't happy and we're back to lively again!

I'm sure we'll all look back on these stressful 'was that a movement?' moments when we've got elbows in bladders and feet in ribs in a few weeks!

stellarfox · 24/02/2019 20:02

I had my hypnobirthing course this weekend which was really good. I would recommend reading a book on it if you are interested as it’s more about the practice you put in so you can definitely do it with a book.

The lady running the course was a midwife and we talked about movements. She said if you haven’t felt baby moving, have something sugary and then lie on your left hand side for 2 hours and if you haven’t felt anything then, to call the assessment unit at your hospital. She said 2 hours because baby can be sleeping for quite long periods at a time!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 24/02/2019 21:25

It's good advice stellar. Cold drinks also help too.

Heyha · 24/02/2019 22:19

Two hours! But sounds good. A sneaky glass of coke, a warm bath and putting something with a waistband on (anybody else's baby seem to hate having something around them like that?) all seem to galvanise mine into action. Or being in a meeting where you really need to concentrate....

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 24/02/2019 22:30

Or

(and let’s not mess about here)

Eat some prunes
Have an almighty poo
Cue: baby dancing

Heyha · 24/02/2019 22:44

Yes I forgot try both toilet options, that definitely has worked on mine Blush

toomanyflatwhites · 24/02/2019 23:07

I have another one to add for those who already ready have DC:
Twice today I was holding DD (who will be 3 in May) as she was having meltdowns...held her at my front with her legs around my waist and her resting on my bump - the baby was kicking her like crazy both times!!

Another anterior placenta here, 24 weeks, but starting to feel much stronger movement the past few weeks after almost nothing. Today I was laying down having and could actually watch the baby poking from the inside - stopped every time I tried to film it of course!
It's my last night solo before DP gets back from his second transatlantic work trip in the last 3 weeks - it's been a lot less smooth than the first trip was, am knackered! DD refused to nap yesterday and I could have puked with tiredness. Had a much better nights sleep last night (at long last) and today was better, though had a friend and her DD over (same age as mine) and the girls were a horrible nightmare - tantrums, tears, refusing to share, yelling - it was hideous! My DD is never like this usually, I suggested we go out to the park after a few hours and even there DD was sobbing most of the time Confused At least she had a good nap afterwards though!!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 25/02/2019 10:08

@toomanyflatwhites funny isn't it, going from basically no movements to proper kicks? That's what happened with me this time round (also anterior placenta) too.

Glad your DD napped in the end and must be a relief knowing your DP is back soon.

toomanyflatwhites · 25/02/2019 10:13

Yes @KoalasAteMyHomework so strange! I've actually been able to see the kicks this morning again - baby seems to respond particularly when DD talks to my belly which is very cute 🥰
Had another much better nights sleep, thankfully - long may it continue though I'm sure it won't!
Am working from home today or should that be "working from home" based on the current situation 🤪 hope everyone is doing ok this sunny Monday morning!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 25/02/2019 12:07

That's so sweet!
LOVING this weather. Am only 24 weeks but am absolutely shattered though. Really hard keeping up with DS!

SassehMonsta · 25/02/2019 12:52

Baby is definitely responding to DD chattering away, and also to DH too. Its lovely to see - DD keeps cuddling the bump and saying "Good morning Caleb" each morning

June 2019 - Part 6!
hexagon01 · 25/02/2019 19:46

I’ve found that my kitchen countertops are the exact right height for leaning on and causing a protest kick.

My partner and I just did our budget spreadsheet for maternity leave and....it is bad. We mis-timed this baby so badly! First child’s free hours at nursery don’t kick in til several months after this baby will have to go into nursery so the bills for those months are horrifying, and even with this free hours we’ll still be paying a ton 😭 I wanted them close together but I truly understand why people wait (and why people leave work!!).

Changingagain · 26/02/2019 05:53

hexagon01 the cost of nursery is why we've waited until this year when ds will be starting school. I really wanted them close in age but there's no way we could have afforded two lots of nursery or survived on a single income. It sucks and it's annoying that older relatives don't get it and think we waited because we don't want to give up luxuries!

toomanyflatwhites · 26/02/2019 06:45

@Changingagain @hexagon01 We started too late to be able to wait that long, but I definitely did the maths for when we would get funded nursery hours with DD to ease the pain a bit. I actually changed jobs completely post 1st maternity leave to a big organisation with paid leave in preparation for having DC2 so had to wait for the qualifying period there before TTC.

We are (not bragging at all) in a better situation then many but even so it's bloody painful to think how much we will spend on nursery - really doesn't make it financially worth me working except for the long term impact. Really don't love my job though, and definitely don't want to go back full time, but that's an argument That still has to happen with DP 🙄

hexagon01 · 26/02/2019 07:02

@toomanyflatwhites @changingagain I did the maths and was aiming for a September baby but messed up a bit and here we are! Luckily we can just about afford it all, but we won’t have any spare cash for a while. We are also in the very fortunate position where I know if something went drastically wrong we can borrow money off parents. Hope nursery fees don’t go up too much!
