My midwife writes down my measurements and the baby’s heart rate in my notes when she sees me; IME this is standard “midwife stuff” so your concerns are not for sentimental reasons (and don’t think that! You’re allowed to want to get the basic checks completed at your appointments, that’s what they’re there for).

HoneyPea · 19/02/2019 13:52

@LauralovesLuke same with names because of teaching but have an even bigger 'no go' list as DH is a teacher as well Hmm

Heyha · 19/02/2019 14:56

Went and got my bounty pack from Asda today (can you tell it's half term and I've basically written off Easter for doing much prep!). Full pack of nappies and wipes as well as a few of the usual sample bits so the nappies went straight in the hospital pile, once less thing to think about! Local store doesn't have a pharmacy but customer services had a good stash of them ready.

hexagon01 · 19/02/2019 15:24

One of my favourite bands have re-formed and are coming to the UK 4 days before my due date why did I do this to myself

Reastie · 19/02/2019 15:41

Ohh hexagon who is it —spice girls— ??!!! I’ve had to pass on a concert within a month of my due date because I wouldn’t manage it (it involves long late night packed journey on my own and I’m not good with pg as it is). It’s really really annoying isn’t it.

Another day sofa bound feeling rubbish :(

hexagon01 · 19/02/2019 16:09

Not quite Reastie! It’s Bikini Kill. I think it seems like the type of thing that might induce labour so maybe I should give it a go....

Fabuluce · 19/02/2019 16:12

Sooooo many bands I'd love to see in June/July it's bloody ridiculous. I'm gutted!

@Kescilly out of interest what's been written in your notes for this visit? This is supposed to be a specific appointment and if she hasn't done any measurements/listened in, I'm not sure what the point of it all is? Also the appt should be 20 mins so shouldn't feel too rushed? I'm grrrr on your behalf and as others have said would be feeding that information back.

Reastie · 19/02/2019 16:14

Hexagon I’ve never heard of them but it doesn’t sound too sedate! Think of the money you’ll save not going (I’m Shock at how much concert tickets are, although maybe it’s just inflation and it’s becquse I haven’t been to many recently).

stellarfox · 19/02/2019 16:57

I would have seriously considered going to see the spice girls if the timing was better Grin Although if anyone is going to any concerts before baby's arrival, I did read the other day that baby's hearing can be damaged whilst they're in the womb if exposed to loud noises. I only read it in passing and not sure how loud it would have to be to do that but I'd maybe double check beforehand if anyone is considering any concerts! It would probably have to be pretty loud though I guess!

hexagon01 · 19/02/2019 17:27

I went to some pretty loud gigs when pregnant last time! Luckily he didn’t seem to be affected... I did have a bit of a panic at one particularly loud one though..:

Torsz · 19/02/2019 17:33

@Kescilly we didn't hear the heartbeat at my 25 week either - she said it will be after 30 weeks. She did measure the bump but that was about it!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 19/02/2019 19:25

Oh my goodness @hexagon01 this is good news for me too but after surrendering my ticket for the Damned at the Roundhouse when I was 8 months pregnant with DD I know I couldn’t enjoy it for worrying about noise (daft I know)

@torsz maybe trusts massively vary then. I’m just so bewildered...WTF is the point of the 24 appt otherwise?

Torsz · 19/02/2019 19:32

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut no idea - I was there about ten mins in total, was basically a blood pressure check and bump measure 😂

WeeBean · 19/02/2019 20:23

I'm going to have to research this gig noise thing! Hoping to get tickets for Snow Patrol, Foy Vance and a load of other local acts in late May then Feeder in early June, also have a ticket for Westlife (🙈) near the end of May. Hadn't even thought about the noise impact on baby! Feeder are by far the best live act I've seen, I'd be gutted to miss them. It's outdoor, maybe I could just plonk my camping chair at the far end of the field...

hexagon01 · 19/02/2019 20:43

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut to be honest I’m quite glad it’s so ridiculously close to my due date as if it was a couple of months either side I’d be agonising over whether to give it a go. We don’t live close o London at all anyway but in my past life I’d have been there in a shot! I saw Dinosaur Jr when pregnant last time and it was so loud I was covering my bump (and this was not particularly late on) so definitely not silly about worrying at 8 months!

fee1234 · 19/02/2019 21:15

Got my glucose test in the morning, don't know what I'm not looking forward to most, the blood tests, the horrible drink or the fasting 😩

Changingagain · 20/02/2019 05:51

Good luck fee1234 I've had 3 so far this pregnancy, next is a week on Monday. Try and luck forward to the two hours not being aloud to do anything but read / mess on your phone instead. I actually find the break quite nice.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 20/02/2019 07:11

I wanted to see Michael Buble at the end of May but it's 2 weeks before my due date and I know how shattered I was last time trying to stand up for hours. I never considered noise impact though!

Feel so tired the last few days. Looks like I'm going to have the same exhaustion for the rest of the pregnancy that I had last time. I'm super struggling at the moment and it's making me an emotional wreck! Still no clue about names - we really need to start thinking seriously as it took us ages with DS.

Reastie · 20/02/2019 07:56

Weebean what varied music taste Grin

WeeBean · 20/02/2019 08:24

@Reastie I know! 🙈 My younger teenage years were full of boybands before I discovered rock, metal and grunge. Still have to see Westlife for the nostalgia factor, I put a lot of energy into them back in the day 😂

Kescilly · 20/02/2019 08:30

@Torsz I’d say at least I’m not the only one, but I think we both should have had the heartbeat listened to by now. You’re a first time mom too, aren’t you?

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut @Fabuluce I think most of her notes are on the computer but she did measure me and say I was on track and didn’t need a growth scan. She also checked my blood pressure, asked about vaccines, and if I’ve considered a home birth. She told me that the hospital will have bottles if I don’t breast feed and told me I can contact Sure Start for help after birth if I need help with breastfeeding. Oh and she checked my urine but I’m not sure what she was checking for.

It’s difficult for me because the care is so different from the US and I don’t want to kick up a fuss when things seem different to me. I don’t mind them being different, I just need to know I’m still being checked over and that the baby is okay.

@fee1234 good luck! I didn’t find it that bad at all, but I know it can be difficult if you suffer from nausea etc. It will be over soon! And then you can go out for a fabulous lunch!

@Changingagain may I ask why you’ve had multiple tests? I was supposed to have one about now, but they bumped it up after baby was measuring large at my 20 week scan. So I had it done weeks ago and passed, but thought I’d have another one since I have so many risk factors. I asked the midwife and she said I wouldn’t. But couldn’t I still develop GD? I don’t actually want to, but I know it can be serious if it’s not caught!

Changingagain · 20/02/2019 08:56

Kescilly I had gd in my first pregnancy, my mum has t2 (and I suspect had gd that wasn't picked up) and her mum had t1. I had the first gtt at 6 weeks this time but only because I went through my pretty slack stand-in gp to get it, the midwives didn't want to know. I also started testing my levels straight away so I could see the fasting ones were close to the limit already and I was referred to the diabetes team / consultant despite passing the gtt.
If you're really worried try contacting the diabetes clinic at your hospital directly to see if they'll give you a glucose monitor or, if you need to and can, buy your own (testing strips are bloody expensive though) then if you are getting high readings they'll be more inclined to listen. It's possible to pass the gtt but still have gd.
There's a great support group on fb called Gestational Diabetes UK Mums if you think it's likely you have it.

Changingagain · 20/02/2019 08:58

Oh and 26 weeks is about the average for it to develop, but it can literally be at any point through pregnancy, so I definitely wouldn't be happy with one test at 20 weeks if you have several risk factors.

fee1234 · 20/02/2019 09:14

Thanks just had the drink, wasn't too bad actually. First bloods were ok apart from the midwife not being able to get my vein for a while. Being tested as diabetes runs in my family.

Hope everyone is doing okay.

Torsz · 20/02/2019 09:19

@Kescilly I know, it is a little odd but she said they just don't do it in Bristol due to the stress/cost if they can't find it and have to refer you to hospital - but I would've thought that was worth it at this stage!
I'd actually been to A&E and heard the heartbeat a couple of days before so wasn't too bothered, but I wouldve been otherwise...
