Ooh yes you have been feeling different haven't you?! That's how I knew my second one was a girl

Giraffe888 · 18/01/2019 17:45

Here’s my picture ❤️ Baby was just putting hand to mouth. Everyone is saying girl but I’ve no idea! X

@reginaphalange89 so pleased your scan went well! We didn’t get a choice on picture! Would have liked a few different ones x

BeckyButterfly · 18/01/2019 17:55

@ReginaPhalange89 so pleased the scan went well 😊

ReginaPhalange89 · 18/01/2019 18:13

Thanks all . That's a shame @giraffe888, but at least you got a good one !

The lady that did my scan today was the same woman who done my early scan at a private clinic! She recognised me and was chatting away so I reckon she just gave me extra to be nice , seemed to spend a decent amount of time trying to get me a good one then got all these !! They're all really good too , a few front on but mostly side views

Glad to hear scans have been going well.

At @ReginaPhalange89 that's amazing, we have to pay £4 for each photo!

I'm still being sick at 14 weeks. I'm ready for a rest.

Giraffe888 · 18/01/2019 18:26

Our photos were £5 each 😮

ReginaPhalange89 · 18/01/2019 18:59

Yeah I've heard some hospitals charge for them , 3rd pregnancy and never paid for a single one !

BirthdayKake · 18/01/2019 19:12

Ours were £4 each too!

I just said to DH "Wow, look at Regina Phalange's photos!!" He was like Confused hahaha

Yukka · 18/01/2019 19:12

Great news on the scans, it’s been a good week all round!

Ok so I know it’s a little early for these questions but since consultant said I’d be induced it’s been on my mind, as every woman I know has hated being induced.

So two things - anyone got experience of hypnobirthing and anyone with induction experience willing to share? And perhaps some truth about pain options?!

BirthdayKake · 18/01/2019 19:21

Yukka I've had one induction - first baby and cervix wasn't favourable apparently. I was told I'd probably be doing nothing for a couple of days so get reading all the books I'd brought with me...

Contractions kicked in an hour after the first pessary and he was born after about five hours. I had an episiotomy and forceps were used with only gas and air, but that was the incompetent midwives' fault.

I was supposed to be induced with my fourth baby but she was born naturally before induction day.

cravingmilkshake · 18/01/2019 19:25

We paid £3 per photo at Winchester!

Jxtina86 · 18/01/2019 19:39

Love all the scan photos! Our hospital doesn't charge (apparently they used to but haven't since GDPR came in) but they ask for a donation which goes to the Women's Health department. Does anyone know if you get more pics at the 20 week scan?

No experience of hypnobirthing myseld but my friend did it for her first last year and had a very calm and relaxed birth - she was low risk and had no complications in pregnancy or labour so was straightforward but she also said that the hypnobirthing course was far more informative about a variety of births than NCT was. I've got the Your Baby, Your Birth book which comes with mp3s that I'm finding quite good. Not sure if we can afford a full course but will take what I can from the book!

TwinkleDay · 18/01/2019 20:28

Hmm I don't know if you can help guys... I am going to see a friend tommorow who has been very open about her and OH TTC.. and they are both very very overweight so as far as I know they aren't getting on too well.

She's also a twin and her sister has been going on lots of tests the past year as she's stopped having periods due to her weight.

I'm planning I'm telling her/them my news but not sure what the best way about it is... anyone got any ideas... I'm a closed person and she's literally on Facebook every week like 'this year will bring you a baby' posts !

cravingmilkshake · 18/01/2019 20:46

We are thinking of names- the name Jude just occurred to us and we love it! (If we have a boy of course

OneMoreWish · 18/01/2019 20:54

@TwinkleDay i hope your chat goes ok and your friend is understanding and happy for you. I've noticed this come up in various threads on here and people have some good advice.

I have a cousin who has several failed ivf and had one last try left ( her husband had cancer as teenager and had sperm frozen, one vial left). I told my aunt first and asked her to pass on so my cousin could hear in private and then we spoke about a week after. Not sure you can quite do this but I get it's difficult.

I wouldn't mention her weight though... I'm very overweight and pregnant- we can get pregnant.

TwinkleDay · 18/01/2019 21:05

@OneMoreWish I know it's not the ideal situation but they reason they aren't getting On very well is because they both need to loose 8 stone each to be 'in a healthy range' I'm no skinny Minnie either 14/16

Kentishgal · 18/01/2019 21:12

Lovely scan pics - congratulations! I did hypnobirthing with my first - unfortunately (as you may have seen from my posts the other night) I had a tricky birth and I'm not sure any amount of hypnobirthing would have helped - however, that said, I think even in normal circumstances I'm just not very good at it and not the right person for it - I've had lots of hypnotherapy in the past and I just think unfortunately I'm not very receptive to it. So, for the right person, it may well be great. As for induction, I was also induced - the process of being induced itself is absolutely fine - I had the pessary and the drip later on - the drip made things a bit more intense but it was fine - I'm sure it's totally different for everyone. And at least you can prepare for it (and maybe use hypnobirthing skills!!)

Kentishgal · 18/01/2019 21:13

Ps sorry to over share but I've got a very upset tummy tonight - not sure if it's something I've eaten or a bug - is this dangerous for baby? Every little thing is worrying me lately and I'm too scared to Google!

Giraffe888 · 18/01/2019 21:25

@cravingmilkshake that’s our fave boys name at the minute!

TwinkleDay · 18/01/2019 21:56

Serious heartburn here... any natural remedies anyone can recommend. I think it's the lime and tonic water that's done it

ReginaPhalange89 · 18/01/2019 21:58

@TwinkleDay mints! I got so desperate once I ate toothpaste 😂🙈 and used to drink a ton of milk too

wombatron · 18/01/2019 22:14

I think there's 2 July 2019 threads running. Ones in Pregnancy. This is like a parallel universe - I got so bloody confused!

Congratulations on all the positive scan news today! Is that everyone now or are there still a couple left to have their dating scans?

@Yukka I practiced hypnobirthing and was induced with my Daughter.
In terms of the hypnobirthing, I attended Daisy Birthing classes for 18 weeks (3 courses) and read a few hypnobirthing books. I also practiced the techniques at home with DH in the weeks leading up to my due date.
I found it helped me stay calm in the run up to my due date and definitely helped me to remain calm and in control for far longer once in established labour.

However my waters went without contractions and I had significant meconium in them, so I was induced using the drip straight away. For me induction was a very difficult experience- I was having 5/6 x 1 minute contractions in every 10 minutes for 16 hours..... the midwives and doctors just couldn’t get the dose right so my contractions were very intense, very quickly. However I had other complications that made established labour this long (she was back to back and she got completely stuck.) I ended up with both sets of forceps, an episiotomy, Manual rotation, a 3rd degree year and a damaged bladder (catheter kept in for over a week after birth) I have since been told that all of these complications together are extremely rare!

If the other complications hadn’t factored into it and I had dilated quicker, I think I could have coped with an induction using hypnobirthing and gas and air, but because of how slow I was progressing there was no way I could continue with that level of intensity for that long without additional pain relief.

I’m definitely an unusual case though so don’t let it put you off really perfecting hypnobirthing techniques.

I plan to do the same this time round! X

DianaBlythe · 18/01/2019 23:01

Yes you do get more pictures at 20 week scan. They do charge here but I went straight from work so was wearing my badge and they said not to worry, there are few perks for working in frontline healthcare and they don’t charge staff. She gave me loads of picture and has written PAID in big letters on my 20 week appointment card. Was lovely of them but I do feel a bit bad. I do believe other people also work very hard and I am quite reasonably paid!
