I have bought nothing for the new baby - hoping we can just use all of DS's stuff then get some new clothes!

Re dummy - I actively tried to get DS to take a dummy! Much prefer them as you are in control of when you get rid of them. Sod's law - he rejected it in favour of his thumb. That'll be much harder to wean him off!!

Fabuluce · 20/01/2019 19:46

I haven't bought a single thing yet either! I have sooo many clothes from DS which are unisex plus muslins, blankets etc. Realistically all I really need is a bednest and a new breast pump I think plus nappies, lanisoh etc.

Sunny1990 · 20/01/2019 19:57

Thank you for the link about dummies, and also the stories about how useful they are. It’s definitely something I’ll consider now, after only hearing negative things before! I’m all for making this as easy as possible 😂

So how prepared is everyone?! I’ve just got the pram so far, which I only really got because it was on offer!

Spargle · 20/01/2019 21:18

I’m not very prepared. I’ve got about a day’s worth of clothes, a blanket, some muslins, the promise of a changing table and a baby bath. Also, the house is still a bit of a building site - it doesn’t look as though it will be possible to get it ready in time for the baby.

The main things I need are a bedside cot and bedding, some nappies, a car seat, and more clothes. Most of the other things can probably wait. We’re hoping to use a sling, so we’ll need to go to the local sling library at some point. Still plenty of time!

fee1234 · 20/01/2019 21:45

I've got quite a few things, but I'm getting really confused about vests and sleepsuits etc. June baby - so will he need to wear short sleeve vests under everything, not long sleeve or sleeveless? And he would wear that with a long sleeve sleep suit and cardigan if it's chilly?

So confusing trying to work out how many of each things I'll need!

Sunny1990 · 20/01/2019 22:01

@fee1234 yes I know what you mean about clothing...I just keep remembering how hot it was last summer and worrying about the little one getting too hot and bothered!!

Kescilly · 20/01/2019 22:17

I had a small meltdown today about being disorganized! Not so much in baby things, as my mom sorted us out quite a bit when she visited. But we have a list of things to do with the house and it's about a mile long.

I think we are finally getting someone in to start on replacing the flooring upstairs in February. Then we can move onto everything else.

annihall · 20/01/2019 23:58

I'm just on my way home from an a&e trip tonight!
I've had a couple of very painful contractions earlier followed by a big blob of clear discharge (sorry tmi), DH got really worried too so we went to hospital. Even though you usually wait for 3 hours+ I was seen by a nurse after less than 20 minutes and got sent over to the maternity ward where a doctor checked my cervix etc.
It seems all fine and apparently no reason for concern - he said these contractions can start from about 20 weeks (I'm 19+6 today) but shouldn't usually be too painful.
The reason I'm posting this here is that I was very concerned that doctors would call me a waste of time or similar if everything turns out to be alright, but this was not the case at all. Everyone I met there tonight - reception staff, nurses and doctors - were really lovely and helpful and took my concerns seriously and acted quickly, even though it turned out to be all fine in the end. This was very reassuring and I am glad I went there because I would have been lying awake all night worrying if I wouldn't have gone.

LauralovesLuke · 21/01/2019 05:30

I'm glad you're ok @annihall that must have been quite frightening.

stellarfox · 21/01/2019 07:44

@annihall glad it was all ok. Definitely worth getting checked!

I’m not feeling very organised either - we’ve got a sleepyhead, baby bath, nappy bin and some swaddles so far. We’re currently buying a new front door and dining table so trying to do one big buy a month until baby arrives! I have been looking at prams but trying to hold off until April to utilise the guarantee! I want everything essential sorted a month before the due date as have a number of friends that had their babies early and weren’t prepared!

Napssavelives · 21/01/2019 07:46

Not feeling organised either. Have lots of clothes from the boys but will need to get new cot mattress, car seat, oram, sling, sleepyhead, crib/basket. I can’t even think about doing it alone :(

Changingagain · 21/01/2019 08:10

Glad it was all OK annihall I was told by a midwife last time that they would all rather see loads of pregnant women with nothing wrong than to have one stay away feeling worried when she really needed help.

I was feeling OK about organising things as we still have all the big stuff from ds, just hadto get a second car seat Base. Now I'm getting worried because we need to get ds a new bed and bedroom furniture so the nursery stuff can go in the babies room. We can only order one bit at a time due to space, and living where we do, delivery is likely to take at least a few weeks for each. Then we have to actually get round to putting them together before getting the next piece.
I was going to move ds's wardrobe and drawers / changing table into the baby's room this weekend to make room for nrw stuff but Dh refused. He's now decided he won't help me move them because he doesn't think I should be doing it. So now we have to wait a couple more weeks at least until FIL or BIL are round to help before we can even get started.

Bigonesmallone3 · 21/01/2019 08:14

Me and dd are so unwell, she has a temperature and prone to convulsions so need to be watching her like a hawk, I have been coughing so much that it's making me throw up! And a bit of pee came out..
Now my head hurts, my throat hurts and I have a slight temperature.

Anyone have any good cough home remedies?

Curlywurly3 · 21/01/2019 10:29

Hey @silversister we both agreed we like the Silver Cross brand. There are two we liked and plan to do a bit more research. Nursery furniture is hard. It’s eurher really cheap or really expensive! I also forgot my pillow!

There’s a thread for October 2019 babies now...! Crazy that our babies will be 3 or 4 months old by then!

lstef · 21/01/2019 11:00

My shopping list is long and full of big items lol and not much money lol (family are helping with some of it) - bigger car, car seats, cot, storage for my stuff so I can prepare the spare room for my mum to stay, single bed, buggy, etc etc. I've only got a few clothes and bibs at the mo. Also going to get as much second hand as I can. Im not organised at all but also still worried about something going wrong, even tho had my 19w scan and all fine, just find myself wanting to get to 24w and then start but realise I will run out of time to get the things if I keep putting it off!

@annihall glad all is ok!

Heebyjeeby99 · 21/01/2019 11:11

20 week scan on Wednesday and a bag of nerves. I'm convinced something is wrong as STILL flat stomach and no movement. Any tips for getting through the next 48 hours........?

Kescilly · 21/01/2019 11:28

@Heebyjeeby99 I was nervous too, wasn't sure if I had felt anything at all. I've only felt definite movement at 21 weeks now. But sure enough, baby was in there and rolling around for the scan. Quite large too! 😮

Take it a day at a time. And keep us updated!

@Bigonesmallone3 try to get as much rest as possible, don't exert yourself. Also try not to talk too much! And sit upright when you can, even sleeping more upright if possible.

@annihall glad everything went okay! Sorry you had a scare.

@napssavelives can a friend or family member help you sort out what you need to get? I'm sure it's difficult to be motivated right now, so don't be afraid to ask for help.

SilverSister · 21/01/2019 11:58

@Curlywurly3 sounds like you made good progress. We haven't even started to think about nursery furniture yet - why are there so many decisions to make?!!

Fabuluce · 21/01/2019 13:14

@Heebyjeeby99 me too for Wednesday - what time is your appointment? Keeping everything crossed for your appt.

Heebyjeeby99 · 21/01/2019 13:26

@Fabuluce mines at 12.45...how about you? How are you feeling about yours?

SassehMonsta · 21/01/2019 13:53

Started to feel proper movement at around 20+6 ish / 21 weeks. I have an anterior placenta and feel him round my knickerline and down the sides.

Feeling rough, can't read back at work - so hoping all is OK with most ofyou!

PeachPotato · 21/01/2019 14:05

I have had my 20wk scan but still nervous. Been feeling movement for a while (second baby!) but some days it’s very strong and frequent and other days there’s barely anything and I’m a bag of nerves again!

Heebyjeeby99 · 21/01/2019 14:25

Does anyone know when/how we collect our MAT B1 forms? My work are asking for it already but my next midwife appointment isn't until the end of February....

Fabuluce · 21/01/2019 16:00

My appointment is at 09:20 so pretty much first thing. A bit of a nightmare in that we have to leave 2hours to get there and park as it's rush hour and parking is hellish and have to had the DS to my sister to look after and take to nursery but will be good to get it done and not have to wait all day. I've got a good bump and lots of movement so no obvious need to worry but it's still a worry anyway isn't it. Plus I've got a fetal cardiac appt which has 2 specialists present which feels a bit heavy. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 for that one.

Fabuluce · 21/01/2019 16:03

@Bigonesmallone3 how are you and your DD feeling now? Definitely taking it as easy as possible is on the cards for you both. Duvet and telly?
