@annihall personally I have been buying stuff when I see a good deal and my scan is not for nearly two weeks on the basis that we are trying to save money and if the worst was to happen we would likely try again and worst case could resell for some of the money back. But completely understand your hesitation and we have not made the decisions lightly.

CrazyCowLady · 13/01/2019 10:05

@annihall I haven't bought anything yet as the thought of taking things back if I get bad news at the 20/40 is horrendous to me. Although, I am quite superstitious and feel a bit funny about buying anything before the baby arrives. Would almost have the bare basis that we need for the first month or so, then get more/better things/ non-essentials after. Very unrealistic and a silly idea though maybe?!

@Reastie I'm really hoping things lift for you soon. I was in bed from 6-12 weeks with tiredness and nausea and I went a little stir crazy. Its taken until now (18+5) to finally feel more normal. I still have limits on things but very little compared to the first trimester stuff. I know its frustrating, but can you really lower your expectations of what you can manage? Like setting a time limit of 20-25 mins on activities (like crafts ect) and stop before you become knackered? Or have a good friend over for a cuppa, instead of going out?

Its really good to hear you recognise the symptoms of depression and actually act on them. One of the biggest buggers with it can be the lack of acceptance that you have it, and then, because of how it can make people feel, actually acting on it too and trying to help yourself. Fingers crossed its under more control this time.

@Napssavelives I can't imagine what you are going through. I'm so sorry. Agree with others about it sounding like severe depression and he's making decisions from that place, rather than his normal state of mind.

WeeBean · 13/01/2019 10:58

@annihall can you see if the shop will take a deposit on it? I saw a travel system with literally everything we need with £475 off it in the Mamas and Papas sale, was going to ask them about putting down a deposit until my mum spotted it in the window of our local baby shop (where she got my pram 31 years ago ☺️). We went in and were able to put down a £60 deposit, it was the same price as in Mamas and Papas. They said they take deposits for furniture and all sorts and you can just pay it off up until collection. Feels less scary putting a deposit down, we won't start paying off until after the 20 week scan.

SilverSister · 13/01/2019 11:45

What travel systems have people chosen? There's so much choice, I hardly know where to start!!

Kescilly · 13/01/2019 11:51

@SilverSister we just got the Flip XT2 from Mamas & Papas. A lot of them wouldn’t fit in the back of our car (pretty much all of them) so our options were limited. But it looks brilliant and I’m hoping it was a good choice!

Heyha · 13/01/2019 12:02

We've got the maxi Cosi Adorra as it was the one I liked the most when we pottered round John Lewis (well, the one I liked best that wasn't grossly expensive!!). Wasn't going to buy yet but is was on Kiddies Kingdom sale in the colour we preferred with a free car seat. All good apart from the car seat turned up with snapped handle so now got the hassle of chasing that up, I'm reserving passing judgement on the company's customer service at present but I'm not wildly impressed so far.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 13/01/2019 12:33

Tell you what, anyone who gets the M&P Flip XT will not be disappointed. That was our travel system for DD born in Feb 2016 and we sold it when we found out I was expecting DS as it didn’t at the time convert into a double (does it now?)

BIG MISTAKE. We should’ve held onto it. It was the dogs bollocks in every way (weight, handling, ease of use, fold up ability, front/rear facing) and I would trade any of the 4 (!) pushchairs/buggies I’ve had since to get it back.

It’s just a crying shame there’s no way to covert it to a double.

Ps: the Cybex car seat that comes with is is also great; easy to fit/lift out/click onto the pram chassis.

All I’d say if you get an XT/XT travel system is BUY A COSYTOES INDEPENDENTLY. Think Hauck do “universal” ones. Also the dogs bollocks (not that they’ll be needed in June but still).

Here endeth the lesson

fee1234 · 13/01/2019 12:38

Hi ladies, haven't caught up yet but will have a read just now.

Did something silly earlier - was folding up loads of cardboard and decided to stand on it, and I fell and landed on my side. I was cushioned by the cardboard, but I'm a bit worried as I'm rh negative blood. Left a message with my midwife but I think they will probably ask me to come in for the anti-d just to be safe.

I've got my 20 week scan tomorrow so wondering if they will make me wait until then or come in later today. Feel so silly!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 13/01/2019 13:33

@SilverSister dithering over Bugaboo Donkey or Bugaboo Bee. The choice is overwhelming though Confused

annihall · 13/01/2019 14:34

Thanks everyone for your opinions! We're looking at the maxi cosi nova and I really fell in love with it.
My father in law now said he wants to buy a pram for us but not before April, what's quite annoying now with the January sale on. I'm worried that model/colour etc won't be available anymore then, but I also don't want to spend all that money if he offered to pay for it in a few months...

Torsz · 13/01/2019 15:32

We've been in mothercare this afternoon choosing - I think we're going for an icandy peach (currently comes with free maxicosi pebble plus) and isofix base - just need to get them to test the car seat in my qashqai and check the angle is ok 🤞

Reastie · 13/01/2019 16:12

Thank you crazycow, you speak a lot of sense and I’m so glad you’re feeling a lot better. A lot of my anxiety is I have a few upcoming hospital appointments at the big hospital that’s a long way away (the one I’m giving birth in but is nearest main hospital. Mw apts are at tiny local hospital) and I just don’t know how I’m going to make them, it seems so scary to me, which I know is pathetic. I mean, I know I’ll make it because I have to but it’s the fall out afterwards.

Today has been awful, I’ve been in bed most of the day. Feeling very down and ‘why did I do this, I can’t cope’ thinking which I know won’t get me anywhere. In good news I’m hoping to pick up (or dh to pick up) some newborn things via Freecycle tomorrow which I’m really excited about. With dd with only had 2 newborn babygros and then we just put her in too big 0-3 month gros so I’m excited at what this newborn stuff might be like. I could do with cheering up! I’ve done well from Freecycle as I also got a bag full of maternity clothes a few weeks ago too. Last pg I was wearing the same three outfits on rotation but this time I’ve actually got a choice in outfits.

Travel system wise we have an ancient quinny speedi in the loft from dd. So old they don’t make it any more! It was a joy to push and is an all terrain one but it is very big and bulky and takes up most of the boot. I have a question about our travel system. We have a pram attachment for it which is also in the loft. Now it’s been in there for 8 years nearly and it’s auite damp up there. I’m not sure how to best clean it to get rid of the damp smell but make it safe without any smelly chemicals. I’m wondering about cleaning it with Milton a few months before to give it time to air? I’ve found online a new mattress I can buy for it.

Napssavelives · 13/01/2019 16:20

Trying to regain some sense of normality in the chaos. Pram wise I’m looking at maybe a mountain buggy. I had a Phil and teds double with my boys and I liked how robust it was. I was a 3 wheeler off roarer which I can potentially run with. Nowhere seems to stick them though to try them out. I’m not overly opposed to getting a Phil and teds single either. Practical!

SilverSister · 13/01/2019 16:57

Thanks for all the tips guys!
M&Ps XT wasn't on my radar but definitely looks worth investigating. I'm stunned at how huge these things generally are so it'll be good to see a more compact one, especially with such a glowing review.
Anyone got any views/ experience with iCandy Orange? One that DH saw and liked the look of.

WeeBean · 13/01/2019 17:15

Another one getting the Mama and Papas Flip XT2 here. The woman in the shop showed us how to connect and disconnect all the different bits and fold it down, I was really impressed with how easy it was! We picked the 8 piece bundle so it comes with car seat and isofix base etc and even a changing bag. It was so light too!

Kescilly · 13/01/2019 17:28

They all seem massive and heavy to me! Glad I’m not the only one with the XT2, we really weren’t sure what to get. I feel relieved to have that decision out of the way.

My husband is sick, looks like it could be the flu. I’m terrified of getting it from him but not sure what to do.

Changingagain · 13/01/2019 18:07

Napssavelives hope you're doing OK.
I got a mountain buggy swift 4 years ago for Ds, it's great and will be using it again this time.

rollerskaterdata · 13/01/2019 18:23

I'm another one scratching my head over car seats/travel systems. Ours that we used with DS will be exactly 5 years old when LO is born and our manufacturers instructions 'advise' we replace it after 5 years. Seems silly to still be asking this based on that, but it's in great condition, we bought it brand new and it has never been in an accident. I'd also planned to get it professionally cleaned. Based on that I'm hesitant to spend hundreds of pounds on an entirely new system. Thoughts?

Napssavelives · 13/01/2019 18:26

Trying to keep up normality for the kids, trying to give him the space to figure out what he wants. I’m almost certain he’s having a breakdown, I’m also pretty sure he’s going to leave. In the meantime I’m trying my hardest to stay calm for the baby. I can’t lose the baby too.

Bigonesmallone3 · 13/01/2019 18:27

I have an egg from dd and as she will be just over two when baby gets here I just plan to buy an adaptor so it's a double :)

Bigonesmallone3 · 13/01/2019 18:29

I wonder if anyone knows if pushchair refurb is a thing?

hexagon01 · 13/01/2019 18:50

@Bigonesmallone3 I get targeted ads for pushchair refurbs all the time on fb for some reason so definitely a thing!

I had a Silver Cross Wayfarer last time and I HATED it. It’s fine for the newborn days but as they get bigger it’s just so difficult to manoeuvre and crap wheels too. We have kept it on storage but plan to mostly use the sling with this little one (what we ended up doing last time round), then move onto the Baby Jogger City Mini which we ended up getting after my hatred for the Wayfarer became too much. I highly recommend the City Mini, though only used it from 1 year +. It’s a fantastic buggy.

We have decided to not initially get a double buggy (2 year gap) and will see how that goes. I’m a big fan of slings and my boy loves walking so we’ll see how it goes.

Morgan999 · 13/01/2019 19:23

We've been looking at the oyster 3. Had a good look at it today and they showed us how is it to fold away etc. It's really light, which is important for me as I have a bad back. It is difficult, there is so much choice!

LauralovesLuke · 13/01/2019 19:30

Bloody hell you're all so organised! My bank balance is nowhere near buying a pram yet!

Spargle · 13/01/2019 19:32

We’re currently proposing to try babywearing, and see if we can get through the pram stage without actually buying one. If we don’t manage one, we’ll be getting one second-hand, at short notice!

The car seat, however, is more of a vexed matter. With the babywearing, we theoretically don’t need a car seat which we can carry around with us, and so can buy one which will take the child from birth to 12. In practice, I’m not convinced that ruling out a car seat which can be carried around is entirely wise. We’ve got some thinking to do!
