May be a coincidence but just bought some bottle green sparkling aromatic ginger and lemongrass and my nausea has suddenly improved. As I say, could just be coincidence.

StargazyDrifter · 01/12/2018 19:04

Ooh I'm going to try my finger fizzy drink with dinner. Even if it's a placebo, I'll take that!

AIDE2424 · 01/12/2018 19:10

Just after some advice I work long hours and at the minute I’m shattered by 4pm, I work 16 hour shifts and also do the sleep in at work and then work the next days a 16 hour shift, if I spoke to work would it be possible to change my working hours?
So for example- I’ll begin work tomorrow at 7am and work untill 11pm then go to bed at work untill 7 am and do it all again go to sleep at work and finish Tuesday morning at 8.30 so it’s exhausing, I’m also the senior there so run the shift and that’s hard in itself.

Also I work in a children’s home and the children can be challenging sometimes and another girl I worked with who was moved to a more settled home due to the danger of the home I work in but there’s been no mention of me swapping homes?

TheScaredyKat · 01/12/2018 19:15

@blueeyedviking its definitely in the tummy probably about level with where the top of my knickers sits. Maybe I just strained a muscle or something when I sneezed.
Have you got 12w scan appointment through yet? Mines 17th December

AIDE2424 · 01/12/2018 19:16

It’s more the not been moved work environment I’m bothered about then the work hours. X

blueeyedviking · 01/12/2018 19:31

My midwife says that a lot of things are moving around now so may just be that?

Yep I'm on 24th Dec. Was originally week before but had to move it as my husband is away then.

StargazyDrifter · 01/12/2018 19:34

AIDE2424 That sounds very gruelling, both physically and, I suspect, emotionally. Also totally appreciate the added pressure of being 'in charge' in any way when your head is full of other worries and feeling unwell.

Have you had a look at work policies? When I told my LM I'm pregnant she ran me through a list of questions and we agreed a couple of adjustments. We will do this each trimester. I don't know if that's just our place or a legal requirement everywhere. If your work have this, I'd raise both the hours and the potential for children to be challenging and therefore a new location. If you don't mind me asking, is the point about the children that situations can get very stressful or is it also that they can lash out physically? Sorry, I work in an office!

StargazyDrifter · 01/12/2018 19:36

TheScaredyKat I've had a similar pain the last few weeks, though now better - have a look at the corpus luteum on Google. Basically until this placenta takes over it pumps out stuff to sustain the pregnancy and can sometimes get a bit painful. I gather it can also burst but you'd definitely know about that, apparently. Sorry all a bit unscientific.

StargazyDrifter · 01/12/2018 19:42

AIDE2424 have a look at Q6 on this link, below. It seems no formal risk assessment is legally triggered by pregnancy, but they have a general duty to make sure your environment isn't harming you as part of health and safety. Your work policy might go further than that though.

www.hse.gov.uk/mothers/faqs.htm

I would definitely have a conversation and don't minimise how you feel and your worries. Not the time - you and your sticky bean come first. 😊

AIDE2424 · 01/12/2018 19:53

@StargazyDrifter the young people I work with are very vulnerable and sometimes can become physically aggressive and need restraining. I’m not allowed to restrain whilst pregnant and just have to move out the way if a situation occurs. My manager been brilliant with regards to me been off this past week due to been in hospital but other then the no restraining nothing else has been discussed no formal conversations about my pregnancy or anything. I suppose I’ll have to speak to them Monday and see what happens from there x

TheScaredyKat · 01/12/2018 20:02

Thanks @stargazydrifter @blueeyedviking I'll stop worrying.
Currently watching Strictly and blubbing at Stacy Dooleys dancing.
@aide2424 how do you manage that schedule?! I'm struggling with 8 hours a day mostly sitting at a desk. I would definitely mention both the hours and the danger aspect.

DianaBlythe · 01/12/2018 20:13

@AIDE2424 Do you have occupational health where you work? If so it may be worth asking to see them and they would likely make some recommendations regarding your working hours. Failing that maybe you could see your GP and ask for a fit note which says you are fit to work modified hours only at the moment?

I slept at work on Wednesday so no commute on Thursday and on Friday for the first time in ages I didn’t vomit in the car, just retching. Not sure if it’s the pills working or reaching 9 weeks. Bizarrely though it’s absence worried me!

No weird dreams about Boris here but I did dream that Ed Miliband came to see me at work dressed as a woman. He had kidney cancer and a rash.

hayleyfx · 01/12/2018 20:13

@StargazyDrifter thank you so much for that. Honestly you’ve really calmed me down. I guess because all I’ve ever experienced is pregnancy loss not healthy pregnancies is why I’m so pessimistic but trying to cling onto the hope that I might be 5+ weeks instead of 6 🤞 I’m sure you understand what I mean, pregnancy just feels like such a scary time now! Thank you again for the reassurance ❤️

Second blood test tomorrow at 12, fingers crossed for doubled hcg levels! 🤞

AIDE2424 · 01/12/2018 20:32

@hayleyfx I’m keeping everything crossed for you and will be thinking of you tomorrow! 💕

I’m currently relaxed watching tele with a nice glass of water! Xx

Belmo · 01/12/2018 21:22

Me too with the stabby pains TheScaredyKat and blueeyedviking, especially when sneezing and coughing. I think for me it’s round ligament pain, which I’m sure kicked in later last time but is definitely normal.
AIDE2424 I work with adults and older children with learning disabilities, my manager has done a risk assessment and will redo it at each supervision. I’ve been taken out of one service where there is passive smoking, no one I currently work with is particularly challenging although there’s one we’re keeping an eye on just now. I don’t work longer than 13 hours, I couldn’t cope with your schedule!

StargazyDrifter · 01/12/2018 22:42

hayleyfx enormous amounts of luck to you for tomorrow!

AIDE2424 hope Monday goes well. I am still in awe at your schedule!

Belmo your manager sounds good, just out of interest, how frequent are the supervisions (and therefore risk review points)? Sounds really good and of course necessary in your line of work.

Alcohol free ginger beer seemed to help me for a short while tonight Kentishgal. Then it was actual vomiting. 😭 I have such a big week next week and it looks like it'll be peak sick, too, 9w on Wed.

Belmo · 01/12/2018 22:46

Mmm ginger beer sounds good StargazerDrifty! Supervision is every 6-8 weeks, usually. I’ve been a bit surprised how good my boss has been actually! She’s quite young with no kids, and has been really keen to make sure she’s doing everything properly etc - last time I was pregnant my boss was older with a few kids, and was a bit ‘my working conditions were crap when I was pregnant so you should cope too’! Hope the sickness isn’t tooo bad.

StargazyDrifter · 01/12/2018 23:01

Thanks Belmo! Your boss does sound lovely. Nice when they do that. Mine has one child and says she had a very easy pregnancy so I sometimes have to set things out in detail for her to understand the difference between, for example, her experience of occasional nausea every couple of days and the permanent, exhausting, stomach-chrurning hell I seem to be in for now. She does get it eventually though and is good about it when she does. And is in any case better than our overall man boss who is a bit of a liability and always says the wrong thing despite having kids.

TwinkleDay · 02/12/2018 08:21

Morning all,

Yesterday I played the lovely game of go to the Xmas markets and divert away from the booze and gin stalls, the best way I found to do this was to say ‘ you don’t want to be talking to me you need my mum she’s a bigger fan than me ‘ and make her seem like the biggest alchi ever lol. I had some small bits of cheese and chocolate though to try and put them off and weird behaviour of mine. Hopefully none of them have noticed I have been wearing the same pair of trousers the past 4 times I have met them lol

Anyone else been on the dodge? It’s still a secret until Xmas eve 🥳

MakeAWhish · 02/12/2018 09:40

We went to friends on Friday night. I told my close friend about the pregnancy so she could help me. We were poured a large glass of prosecco each... I sipped mine 2 or 3 times, then when my friends was almost empty, we slyly swapped glasses 😂 I think we got away with it! We only stayed for one as I have slipped a disc in my back so was only popping in for one before I needed to go and lie down anyway. Next outing is 14th Dec, wish me luck!

Chinks123 · 02/12/2018 09:57

Yes @Twinkleday we’re keeping it a secret until Christmas too. Just ordered dd a jigsaw as a present, when you put it together it tells her she’s going to be a big sister Smile

Had a birthday meal at the weekend and it was so difficult as they all ordered a gin. I ordered an appletizer and got some very strange looks. I couldn’t think of an exsuse so said I was tired..Blush Then had to be sick in the toilet so I’m sure people will begin to guess.

RooKangaroo · 02/12/2018 10:00

I can't today. I just can't. I'm even struggling to type this. I think I've been sick every two hours since 2am, and even at the start it was just stomach acids coming up. I think I'm going to cry.

HchyScott · 02/12/2018 10:22

@RooKangaroo oh god, you poor thing! I feel so bad for you, must be so wearing to feel that rough. Try and keep fluids down if you can? Just be so careful you don’t get dehydrated xx

StargazyDrifter · 02/12/2018 11:16

Roo you poor thing. Sorry to hear. I slept with a bowl by the side of the bed, but luckily no need to use it in the end. Eating first thing seems to have settled things for me today... for now. Have you had a chat with your GP about tablets? They do work (but still give me drowsy-type side effects so not ideal). Do make sure you're drinking and, if you can bear it, check out the various re-hydration sachets. Hugs.

BirthdayKake · 02/12/2018 11:26

Roo I'm so sorry. It's awful isn't it. You poor thing xx
