Sophus - you really deserve at least a day off, how stressful for you. Hope the house gets sorted soon and you have one less thing to worry about.

Emj - I did NCT classes first time round, the best thing was meeting what are now 2 of my best mum-mates. But it was also useful for DH, who didn't have a clue what was in store. If your DH/DP is a bit more on the ball then obviously that won't be relevant to you (my DH wouldn't pick up a pregnancy book if it was the last reading material on earth). I am so pregnancy obsessive that it was lovely to discuss it with other people in the same boat (which could explain why I am on here virtually every day too ).

But if you don't feel up for it, don't worry about it, your baby won't know any better . Let's face it, our mothers managed fine without all these things!

canadianmum · 15/07/2007 19:16

Just checked the weather forecast as it is so muggy here, looks like the low for tonight is 18 degrees in london - yuck. Time to get the fan out.

Anyone else swelling up in this humidity?

sophus · 15/07/2007 19:25

Thoroughly normal day of shopping for baby and not stressing (too much) about crises. Although am more tired than thought possible. Kitten fell asleep on bump and kitten's purring stirred baby. Very sweet the two of them bopping each other through my stomach.
DP has been ace, i haven't cooked, shopped or washed up for days. That level of support has made all the difference i have to say.
Quite looking forward to office tomorrow - bit or normality and problems i know how to solve.
Thanks for advice re social services, they have visited mum in hospital already and we are on the case about getting her care at home for when she gets out.
Have a good week all

xxx

MrsFish · 15/07/2007 19:57

Canadianmum - My feet and fingers have started swelling up

Sophus - Hope your mum gets better soon, also glad to hear DH is taking car of you too

dal21 · 15/07/2007 20:54

ladies - for me, watermelon is working a treat! have a huge slice after evening snack as dessert and it most definitely has a diuretic effect on me! made the mistake of having a slice just before i went to bed last night and was up for the next 2 hours going to the loo!

j20baby · 15/07/2007 21:06

hi, i've decided that maybe i should pop in on this thread now and then as i am due 3rd Oct but its my 2nd baby so i may end up being on the Sep postnatal thread if lo comes early

hope your all well

Tinkjon · 15/07/2007 22:14

Dal21, I seem to remember you're one of the people due a GTT soon? (apologies if not - ignore me if so!) But if you are, be careful with watermelon as I was really surprised to learn that it has a high GI (I'm sure I read that it was higher than jelly beans, but I may have made that up!)

Sophus, glad you've been getting some help. That was really sweet about your kitten and bump!

Hi J20baby, welcome - I recognise you from the Freya/Flora thread

dal21 · 16/07/2007 08:11

Hi Tinkjon - it is high GI indeed, but fortunately my GTT last week came back all clear. But thanks so much for the great advice as i may well not have thought of that!
Hi J20 - I am doing the same and flitting on both threads as with an EDD of 28th Sept, I cannot help but think LO will arrive sometime in Oct (although I am still hoping for slightly early! dont we all!)

Tinkjon · 16/07/2007 09:49

Oooh, great news on the negative GTT Dal21 - congrats! As for wanting babies to be early, I must be the only person who isn't! I'm scheduled for a C-section and my biggest fear is going into labour spontaneously before my section date. I would still get a section anyway, even if I am early, but I am so utterly, utterly terrified of being told "I'm sorry, the theatre is busy with an emergency at the moment so you'll have to give birth naturally instead

Chattyhan · 16/07/2007 10:44

Hi J20 and welcome

Sophus glad to hear your doing ok - what a sweet kitten/baby story! xx

Canadianmum - i agree with the muggy weather! i've had the fan on in the living room most of the weekend and can't remember the last time i used covers at night! And the weathers not even hot - just imagine what we'd be like then!

Well my friend had her baby yesterday - a boy 7lb 13oz and 3 1/2 wks early! She's very pleased he didn't go full term - would have been a whopper!

Pennypops · 16/07/2007 11:48

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a great weekend and managed to sneak a little relaxation in somewhere!

Welcome Willjo! We are a very chatty bunch as you will see!

Kinki - I'm sorry to hear you've been down but equally can understand why. I hope things take a turn for the better and that asthma calms down.

Soohus - Glad to hear your Mum is doing ok and that you have managed a bit of you time this weekend. I think a cleaning agency for the house is a bloody good idea.

Chatty - lovely news about your friends new arrival

All these ideas for themed nurseries sound fab. We never really set out with a theme for ours but seem to be developing an animal type thing - we bought a cream coloured blackout blind with a lovely Noahs Ark theme going on and bought these canvases from Blooming Marvellous that have cartoons of elephants and giraffes on - so cute. DH has always loved nature and animals (he's a country boy bless him) and I think he hopes LO will follow. Even though the nursery isn't finished (thanks to useless Mothercare) I just keep standing in it and day dreaming.

hannahsaunt · 16/07/2007 11:59

Hi, it's been a while, not least because I was off work last week which was just lovely. Good to catch up on all the news. Third trimester seems to be the best one so far - no more sickness, no more migraines, back pain sorted with pillows and the iron tablets have kicked in so not as drained. So may it continue for the next 8/9 weeks . I had even lost weight at my 28wk check though the m/w didn't seem as pleased with this as I was; will be rechecked on Thursday.

Have done no shopping for this lo and he doesn't even have a room to call his own, let alone a themed nursery. He'll be in with us until our basement conversion is completed and we have restructured ds2's room to allow him and ds1 to share after which the new one will move into a nursery come study. Still need to dig out the baby clothes from storage though we have reclaimed the car seat from db so we can at least come home from hospital, if nothing else .

Back at work now for 3 weeks, then off for 3 weeks and back for 5 days before finishing at 37 weeks. Previous 2 were born at 39 weeks so it may not be a long rest. Hoping for as straightforward a time as with ds2 - plan to stay out of the pool so that I can have morphine again which was fab.

Still no idea re names...

willjo · 16/07/2007 14:51

Thank you for all your welcome messages.
I'm having trouble keeping up with all the weekend messages that have been posted so I do apologise if I have missed anything out.

Canadianmum - I think you probably are ruled out of the homebirth option - I hope your previous pregnancy and birth with your twin boys wasn't too traumatic. Lets hope you have a nice smooth ride to the end and can stay at home for as long as you feel comfortable this time round.

MrsB - I'm so sorry you are facing all this worry. I don't have experince of what you have described but I have experince of having fetal cardiology scans (fetal echocardiography) with both my previous and current pregnancies (at St Thomas') With my previous pregnancy several major cardiac problems were picked up at my routine anomaly scan, I was then refered to the FCU for further scans. The staff at the unit were incredible, really experinced and able to answer all our questions. With this pregnancy because of my previous history, I had a cardiac scan in the FCU at 14 weeks where they were able to rule out major heart defects and a further one at 22 weeks for more minor heart problems. I hope you take comfort that your anomaly scan didn't show any major heart problems and so as worrying as it must be for you, IF there are any problems I'm sure they will be minor and the staff at Kings will be very experinced and will be able to offer you the answers that you need - I'll be thinking of you.

TinaLC - Yes I am using SL midwives - are you also using them? I have to book myself into a hospital when we move just incase - I am roughly equal distance between Kingston and Chelsea and Westminster - do you have any experince with these hospitals? Not really sure which to go for.

MrsBumblebee · 16/07/2007 15:03

Thanks so much Willjo, that's really comforting! And good to hear that you haven't had a repeat of the cardio problems with this pregnancy .

canadianmum · 16/07/2007 15:49

Can't believe I am looking at weather forecasts and cheering when I see the temps will be dropping - I was exactly the opposite last year .

Willjo - my boys' birth was a bit traumatic I guess, but I got over it so quickly because they both turned out to be healthy and happy. We were very lucky. I hope you have a wonderful homebirth, 2 of my close friends have had homebirths and can't rate them highly enough. I have heard good things about SL midwives too.

EmLouT · 16/07/2007 16:59

Hello all,

just catching up on the threads after a manic weekend. Welcome Willjo!

Mrs B - I am sorry you are still having a worrying time - I am thinking of you. Good luck on Friday!

I am having one of those horrible Mondays. I have been feeling sick all day and I have just had a phone call to say that my mum has written off my car (I only lent it to her on Saturday). She is in a state but is luckily unhurt but now I have to deal with the insurance companies etc and try to get the claim processed so that I can get a new car before the baby comes - not great for the raised blood pressure.

On the topic of ante natal classes. I am just about to finish my course which was run by a group of NCT trained women but independently of the NCT. It was a good course but I think they went into a little bit too much detail about what might go wrong. Some of the information left me a bit panicky.

Must go and find something to cook for dinner. XX

amyclaramum · 16/07/2007 18:38

Hi Everyone hope you all had a good weekend? I have swollen feet like balloons and feeling rather breathless - so attractive ! My DH took one look at me on Sat and told me to go and get some rest - think he was worried I was having the baby right then !

HIWBB - good luck for DH's op - i think you said its tomorrow ? Hope all goes well !

Mrs bb - sorry you have all this worry about your LO's heart. It seems like a few people have had similar experiences on here. Good luck for Friday.

Kinki - hope you're feeling better soon - does your asthma get worse when weather hot and humid ? - my DD2's asthma is bad at the moment.

Flossalump - sounds like work is very tiring for you poor love. I think you should definitely get some breaks - is anyone you work with sympathetic ?

love to everyone else

MrsFish · 16/07/2007 21:22

Canadianmum - I have been quite happy at the weather so far, about the only time I ever will be I think

EmlouT - sorry about your car, but at least your mum wasn't hurt.

I have been housebound and sofa bound all day, ds woke up not well and has been asleep on and off most of the day on the sofa, but whenever I got up to try and do something he woke up and wanted cuddles... just hope he is better tomorrow as I have loads that need doing

Tinkjon · 16/07/2007 21:43

amyclaramum, re. your comment about feeling attractive, I can empathise - my DD said today "Mummy, you know those greenish, purplish, sticky-out things?" I asked what she meant and she said "you know - those blotches on your legs"

Hopeitwontbebig · 16/07/2007 21:57

Evening all

PMSL Tinkjon - kids, don't you just love 'em!!

MrsFish, sorry ds hasn't been well today, I remember those days! Ahum, got it all to come again!

Canadianmum, I'm totally with you on the weather thing, don't think I'd cope very well in the heat.

Amyclaramum, thanks for remembering, that's really sweet of you.. yes DH has another op tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be a bit more successful than his last one, have to say his arm isn't looking very pretty at the moment, PRAYING it isn't infected again.

EmLou, you have had a bad day haven't you! Nightmare about your car! But agree, at least your Mum is ok.

Chattyhan, wow, I wonder how big your friend's baby would have been had she have gone to term!!??? Lovely news

Sophus, hope things are ok with your Mum. You take is easy won't you, don't overdo it. I know it's easier said than done. Glad you had a day off yesterday.

Well I'll hopefully check in tomorrow. Not sure how long DH will be under for, I'll probably log on tomorrow evening.

Night night all

PS at least this time I haven't got that bad boxer to deal with

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to check in to say helllloooooooooooo again!

We've arrived safely in the Philippines and am now all unpacked. it's very hot, top 20s to mid 30s every day, without the aircon I'd be in pieces! My bump is also getting scarily huge now and I feel like a beached whale, and sadly in most of my maternity outfits I now also look like one!

I'm going to start reading the thread soon to catch up with everyone's news from the last couple of weeks, I hope everyone is well and managing to relax a bit.

It's good to be back
Love FilBrit X

MrsFish · 17/07/2007 08:04

Hi Filbrit - so glad everything is sorted and you are there safely. How are you finding it atm, other than the heat that is

Holly29 · 17/07/2007 09:20

EmLou - nightmare about your Mum/car, but am v glad your Mum is safe. x

Hope everyone is well. Is anyone else suffering from this low blood pressure thing? My midwife said that it was quite normal for blood pressure to go down over the course of being pg, but am now starting to feel weak and faint a lot - is there anything I can do to feel better?

I'm just glad that it's not too hot even if the rest of the non-pg world is not...!

emj23 · 17/07/2007 11:01

Hi all, hope you're all feeling as well and comfortable as possible, not easy I know. I too am quite glad about the weather, I don't much like it when the rain pours but then we get one day of hot weather and I can't stand it and drive people mad complaining.
Thanks for the replies re antenatal classes, this is my second child and I didn't bother with them last time either so I'm sure I'll cope. DP is thankfully interested in the whole thing so I don't need to try and force him to learn stuff about childbirth. He already knows that he will be there but staying up near my head

hannahsaunt · 17/07/2007 11:12

Holly - I have quite low BP anyway and being pg certainly doesn't improve it. I've nearly fainted a couple of times recently but taking my iron tablets and eating regularly has helped. I've really lost my appetite over the last few weeks so have gone quite long spells without eating and then nearly keeled over so dh is making sure that I eat little and often which has really helped as is the wretched iron (though am loath to admit it!).

EmLou - hope the insurance cos are ok - don't envy you trying to sort that out. Glad your mum is fine.

HIWBB - all the best to your dh

FilBrit - hope you settle in quickly!
