Im very appreciative on my materity leave but really it wasn't that safe for me to carry on working. One patient elbowed me in stopmach a few weeks back and I just wasn't going to take any more chances...

Sorry to hear about your mother Sophus xxx

I thought my baby was transverse but apparently she is head down, luckily.

Does anyone else feel sore down below in the groin area?

Holly29 · 09/07/2007 18:57

sophus

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum and I wish her the best of luck for tomorrow. Keep strong. It is so weird that it takes things like this to help us put things in perspective, like the jobs we do and the rows we have with our DPs - none of these things (which seem massive at the time) are really important when it comes to things like your Mum. I suppose that's the only silver lining to this cloud...

Will be thinking of you.

PurpleLostPrincess · 09/07/2007 19:09

Hello all!

Welcome to Mrs Bumblebee, hope you found the stats thread?

EdieMcredie - well done on finishing work - I had last week as holiday and now this week is officially mat leave. (sorry, don't mean to rub it in to those who are still working! ). I really couldn't cope much more either. I still have to take the kids to school and DH to work every day so its not as if I can lie in! So far I haven't managed to get a day at home but I'll keep trying!

MrsMar - how painful to have a verucca, surely you can just use some of that Bazukka stuff, is it worth asking the GP? I still haven't had my foot rub - going to hassle DH for it tonight for sure! Enjoy your decorating!

SeamonstEr - I've got a wedding on 14th July so I'm having my hair coloured next week hopefully...

TinaLC - LOL on your DH using masking tape - I do the same!! I do all the painting in this house but so far haven't had the urge as I've been cleaning too much!

Rin23, glad you're feeling a bit better.

sophus, so sorry to hear about your mum, we'll be thinking of her tomorrow and hope things go as well as they can ((hugs))

So does the position of the baby affect heartburn then? I'm getting kicks either around the same level as my belly button or above so I'm sure baby is head down - I've got a consultant appointment on Wednesday so we'll see what they say then...

MrsFish - of course I don't mind you asking, I just didn't want to bore you all lol! My Mum's family are all deaf (apart from her) and when she was growing up, they called her 'Ann'. It wasn't till she was 16 that she found out from her Auntie Tyrinna that her name is in fact Tyrinna but because its easier to say for deaf people, they had called her by her middle name (Ann). So, when I came along, they called me Tyrinna and I've given it to my DD1 as her middle name. Apparently, its from the old days in Ireland when they called the boys from Tyrone 'Tyrone' and the girls 'Tyrinna'!? If you google it, its a sea molusc lol! Mum still goes by Ann to most people but Dad calls her 'Terry' (which confuses some people) and until I got married, the surgery used to get us muddled up all the time! To this day, we've never heard of anybody else with that name...

Anyway, I've been round to see my bf's baby again, she is just adorable!!! Also, went into town and got a few little bits like some Lush soap and some pens and some shoes. I got tired really quickly so came home - will make a mental note to do any shopping like that in little shifts!

Love and hugs to everybody!!! (((hugs)))

PurpleLostPrincess · 09/07/2007 19:14

Oh my goodness!! Just took a look at the stats thread and there's over 80 of us, that's loads isn't it!!??

Meant to say, HIWBB - hope you and DH are OK?

xx

MrsFish · 09/07/2007 19:21

PLP - thanks for sharing that, I really like it, very unusual

amyclaramum · 09/07/2007 19:28

Thanks Chatty and SeamonstEr for advice - will give it a go !! I'm not too worried as I'm sure there's time to get LO into the right position before Sept 1st !!But I think there's a point where they will book you for C section if baby still transverse.

Rin - I had my hair hilited the other week and it took much much longer than usual. My poor hairdresser was getting really stressed as she was getting later and later for her next appts! So I think sometimes they don't like to do it as they just don't know how your hair will react !

Mrs Mar - when you've finished painting could you just pop over and sort out mine ?! I have not been able to stand the smell of paint at all and had great plans of painting my DD's bedroom furniture and the nursery which have all gone on hold ! However I have been cleaning out the fridge, cupboards, washing pillows etc so its probably just another pregnancy madness symptom !

spangly · 09/07/2007 20:39

Hi

Haven't posted for ages and there's always so much to catch up on so apologies if I'm behind on conversations.

All's well here. I was pretty immobile with pelvic pain a few weeks ago but went to see a chiropractor who was amazing and I've been feeling great since. I highly recommend it. It certainly beat the response I got from the gp and midwife which was basically take 2 paracetamols and deal with it!

Sophus - sorry to hear about your mum. I hope the op goes well tomorrow. Sending big hugs your way.

Mrs Mar - my baby is currently breach and has been for a while. I can feel the head move around under my rib cage and lots of movements under my belly button (the oddest sensation!)/ to the side. I've been told not to worry about it too much as the baby still has time to get into a good position. Apparently getting on your hands and knees is supposed to help positioning, although I;ve not been tempted to clean the skirting board yet

Amyclaramum - I've also been worried about positioning and the prospect of c-section but my midwife said that if you've had a baby before then there is more room for little one to move around which means they get into position later. I'm crossing my fingers that that is the case as I'm really hoping for a VBAC. I guess my consultant appointment in a few weeks will clear things up.

Toadstool - sorry to hear your house move is turning out to be so sressful. We're also moving but have (hopefully) managed to get everyone to agree to completion next week. That felt late enough for me so it must be awful to have your buyers say they won't complete until September. How selfish!!! Have you tried threatening to pull out? That's what finally worked for us.

Congrats to all of you starting your maternity leave. I remember being so excited about it last pregnancy.

Hope everyone has a good week

xx

EdieMcredie · 09/07/2007 20:43

No-one else with pain in groin? Might ring MW...

Hopeitwontbebig · 09/07/2007 20:48

Sophus, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum. Is the hospital nearby? I hope so. Just want to echo what everyone else is saying and wish you and your Mum all the very best. I hope the operation goes well tomorrow. Will be thinking of you.

Seamonster , I wouldn't dreeeeeeeeeeeeeam of avoiding you

The midwife told me that the baby was head down, the bottom is kind of over to the right under my ribs, and head over to the left hand side of my pelvis. Am wondering whether she's changed position since because I'm struggling to eat and am suffering from heartburn... oh joy!

I had a good days work today. I managed to save over £6000 on a quote for our kitchen!!!!!!!!!!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! It 'should' be all finished by mid August. SO we'll have a lovely big family kitchen/dining room because we're knocking through and getting rid of the utility room. Only downside is I will have lost my dumping area and will need to become a more tidy person

Welcome on board all newcomers!!! Make sure you find that stats thread!

Well done on the kitchen!!!

EdieMcredie · 09/07/2007 21:13

Seamonster

I don't think the position is anything to worry about til around 36 weeks? I could be wrong though...

MrsBumblebee · 10/07/2007 09:21

Morning all. Re kick positions, I was told a couple of weeks ago that the baby's breech at the moment, but I've generally been getting quite high kicks (between belly button and top of bump). Either he's got REALLY long legs, or maybe the 'kicks' are actually head or arm movements??

MrsMar · 10/07/2007 09:38

Morning everyone!

Sophus - I hope everything goes well today with your mum, I'll be thinking of you xx

Edie - sorry I didn't get back to you about the groin pain, I did think hmmmm I wonder if it's the same as me. I get quite a few kicks in what I think is my cervix that make me jump a bit, the other day I think he kicked me in one of my ovaries (!) as it was quite a sharp pain, which disappeared immediately. It really made me jump. Is that similar to you? I do occasionally get a sharp shooting pain in my nether regions too, which I've assumed is a nerve firing off in response to a kick somewhere. It feels a little like knitting needles being inserted in my bits. Not pleasant!

HIWBB - well done on getting such a good discount for your kitchen. You're obviously more determined than I am, I'm sure I paid through the nose for my kitchen just because I wanted it done quickly! I hope the building work goes well and is finished on time. I'm such a cynic about builders, I think they're all crooks cos I've been let down by so many. I hope yours is better than mine who did our bathroom!

Spangly - I hope you manage to get your vbac. You're right, we do have plenty of time yet. TBH I haven't felt his head, I've only assumed he's breech cos all the kicking is so low. I'm sure it's just my bucket pelvis that's making him sit low!! I can recommend getting your bathroom or kitchen floor retiled as a way of getting you on your hands and knees, every time I go in to the bathroom I spot new bits of tile cement or mastic left behind by the builders. I seem to be permenantly on my hands and knees scrubbing!

Have a lovely day everyone, I've got a ton of washing to do today, but I don't mind one bit cos it's all for my holiday next week!!! Yipeeeeee!!

xx

EdieMcredie · 10/07/2007 09:44

MrsMar of you going on holiday!

The pain is sort of like pulled muscles in the groin/vaginal/thigh area really. Will discuss with MW but not too concerned as had it for a while and baby doesn't seem bothered by it! Last night was a bit scary as she kicked so hard you could almost see a foot. It was very strange. She is very active, I always wonder when she sleeps she has a lot of hiccups too!...

thebigSea · 10/07/2007 09:46

I'm not worried yet, as its a long way off, although ds1 was born at 36, ds2 38 and dd at 39, however as this isn't my first they say it can be 2/3 weeks before birth that they might turn as opposed to 6 ish for a first timer.

More worrying is the speed of birth if early and transverse...

Any way how are you all, do you like my new look [twirls to show off new hair and new name]

Pennypops · 10/07/2007 10:32

Hi all,

Edie I haven't had groin pain as such how you describe but I do have the knitting needle moments that MrsMar describes - although only when walking strangely enough. I'd assumed it was the baby blocking or pushing on something.

Did you call your mw?

Hopey - well done on kitchen discount. You can buy a lot of pretty things with £6k!!

Re heartburn and positions and what have you I don't think it makes much difference. What causes heartburn (I think) is your stomach being squashed and the hormones softening the entrance to it so that acid flows back up again(!)and seeing as we're all different shapes some people just get this more than others - luck of the draw!

Have a good day all xx

EdieMcredie · 10/07/2007 10:47

PP Haven't rung yet as I have relaxed a little about it. Mine is worse in bed at night.

Like the name TBS-I know you were having probs with the other Seamonster (without the e I think). Esp with him being a man

canadianmum · 10/07/2007 11:59

thebigsea - I like it! And your words of wisdom are very welcome .

tinalc - a friend gave me some advice before my boys were born. When you go through the hospital doors, pretend there is a big bucket beside it and just leave your dignity in there. Pick it up on the way out because you will not be needing it for the birth! So true unfortunately.

Went out for swish dinner last night for our 8th anniversary and who should sit down at the next table but one of my favourite actors - Ralph Fiennes - even more gorgeous in the flesh - looooooovvely. I swear he smiled at me but DH says that he was probably just laughing at my ginormous bump.

Pennypops · 10/07/2007 13:25

Bigsea - your posting on "things said to you in labour" thread cracked me up. Especially the "see?" at the end.
