Wow, so much to catch up on!

Well, I have to say I would normally be a 'polish off half a tub of Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie' type of person but I just don't fancy it at all lately!

kinki - well done on doing your garden and double well done on biting your tongue with that woman, I wouldn't have had that sort of self control!

MrsMar - so pleased you've got that time off to go to France, hope you get lots of rest! Not long to go now before you finish work, hope it flies by!

Pennypops - my middle name is Emmeline and its a family name that goes back for generations so I'm a big fan of it - we're having it as a middle name for this LO too!! My bf's little boy is called Billy and he is gorgeous (his full name is William but we all call him Billy). I know what you mean about no communication at work, its such a pain; and to work with such an awful boss! I agree with the others - act up as much as you can at the sports day!!!

HIWBB - so pleased that the op for DH has been brought forward, that must be a relief!?

As far as fundal height goes, I've been measuring 2cms bigger than I should at each visit (by different people). My explanation is that I wasn't exactly skinny to begin with and 2cms of flab sounds about right lol! I don't think it means anything relevant does it?

I get my bloods done at the hospital usually if I can help it as they always get it first time without any hassle or bruising. I had my Anti-D last week and she took blood and I was a bit unsure but she did really well - a true pro!

Yes, you've all got it right Amethyst is certainly a name I got when trying to think of purple names! I have to admit that when we thought of it, I just loved it and also like the nn misty. I also like Harmony but DH isn't keen on that.. we'll see!

Thank you so much for all your support! I'm still suffering with the same ailments but thankfully I'm coping much better! I'm on cloud nine today because by bf had her baby last night and I've been round for cuddles already! She was 7lb 5ozs and she is called Lucy; she's such a little darling!

I went into work for the company meeting this morning and was presented with a big card that they'd all signed as well as £100 of vouchers - guess where I'm going tomorrow .

I had a chat with my Ops Director and it looks like we've come up with a solution to the problem I went to them with the other week. The only way they can make any adjustments to previously worked hours is to put the absent hours down as holiday and pay me for them! That way my SMP (90% bit) is based on my full core hours. Does that make sense? It took me a while to figure it out but I think I understand and it means I get a lump sum soon for the holiday pay and they also owe me for some commission etc. I think I'm happy with this outcome!

Can I ask your advice? I suffered with pre-eclampsia in the last few weeks when having DD1 so they're keeping an eye on me with this one towards the end and want to see me every week from 35 wks. The last few days, my ankles and fingers have been really swollen so I've been drinking more and more water etc. The midwife wrote it down last week but it wasn't half as bad as it is now and its starting to hurt - should I call her tomorrow? Just wondered what you think?

Well, that was a long one!! Sorry if I've bored you - thank you again for listening and for just being there. This has become a sanctuary for me!!

SeamonstEr · 05/07/2007 21:28

yes tell her, she may re-assure you and say not to worry, or you may catch something in time and be able to sort it.
Either way you'll know and I'm sure worrying will make it worse. Good luck!

PurpleLostPrincess · 05/07/2007 21:29

Oh bless you SeamonstEr, hope things pick up soon for you!

Sending you lots of hugs... ((((((((((((((((((SeamonstEr)))))))))))))))))

PurpleLostPrincess · 05/07/2007 21:30

True! Thank you, I guess I just needed a bit of a prod - I'm getting so used to things hurting lately I'm almost getting used to it (almost of course!).

xx

SeamonstEr · 05/07/2007 21:33

I was compiling a list of who to text to come and look after dd today, very exciting.

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 05/07/2007 23:29

PLP Oooh, i really like Emmeline! Very pretty! How would you feel if i ran it past dh as a potential for us? don't want to steal it!
I agree with seamonster, you'll worry less if you do ring the midwife and with luck, she'll be able to sort something out as pain isn't good!
good luck!

MrsFish · 06/07/2007 08:21

Ditto calling the midwife, you can never be too careful if you have history imo

Pennypops · 06/07/2007 09:59

Hello all!

Well sports day was, mercifully rain sodden and hence shortened. We were all in the pub by about 6pm and while I couldn't have a drink I was quite happy plonked on a sofa with no nasty ciggie smoke to spoil it.

I left early but was advised this morning that I won a PSP in a draw. Neither DH or I are remotely interested in gaming so I can flog that and buy nice things with the proceeds!!

The whole thing was hilarious - you can tell it was done on the cheap. We'd hired this room in this pub behind Holborn tube and our VP of operations was playing this electric piano thingy - looked like a giant version of those Bontempi ones I remember from my childhood. He was playing tunes like Girl from Ipanema, Strangers in the Night and other hotel lounge classics. It had a distictly Phoenix Nights ring to it. The buffet had pineapples cut in half lengthways and scooped out with what looked like chicken supreme in the middle. I work for a class organisation I can tell you.

The upside is that I have a nice day of peace and quiet cos everyone else is at home with evil hangovers. 75% of the office has yet to arrive. Happy days.

Have a lovely day everyone! xx

Tinkjon · 06/07/2007 10:11

Rhubarb, you're definitely allowed to have bloods taken where you want - in my area, at least. You just ask your midwife/GP/whoever for the blood form and then you just turn up at the blood-place at the hospital with your form (no appt. needed) and bingo!

Kinki, I didn't realise there was more than one way of spelling Ciaran, actually - I just meant that people will constantly ask you how to spell it and say it. But as I said, that might not bother you at all - it really doesn't bother me with mine. Mine is pronounced my-a, by the way (although she usually gets called may-a... and even Maria, bizarrely!)

canadianmum · 06/07/2007 10:38

mrsmar - so glad you got your trip to France!!! Have a wonderful time, I am very envious

tinalc - have you heard of spatone? Check out the website spatone.com. It is a really gentle iron supplement that you take with fruit juice. I think the bigger Boots sell it as well as most health food stores. I find it tasteless although some find it a bit metallic tasting.

Regarding babies overheating, we could never get the boys' room below 22C and used to worry ourselves sick about it, finally decided to just stop worrying about it and dress them lightly. GP said that it was better to underdress than overdress a baby as a cold baby will cry but a too warm baby will become lethargic. Her advice was to check the back of the baby's neck or their chest and if that feels fine then they are ok. Their hands and feet will often feel cool but that is normal. No hats indoors.

30 weeks tomorrow - hurray!!!!

PurpleLostPrincess · 06/07/2007 13:28

Pennypops, please forgive me for chuckling at your colleagues - they remind me so much of mine lol! Well done on winning the PSP - hope you buy something nice with the money!

ETATLM, of course I don't mind you suggesting Emmeline to your DH, I don't think would be stealing! It is my middle name but I don't consider it to be mine and mine alone. Go for it and let us know what he thinks, it'd be lovely if he likes it!

As far as spelling out different names etc. my RL name (am I allowed to say it on here!?) is Tyrinna. I'm sure you can imagine I have to spell it out all the time on the phone but I really don't mind! Most people pronounce it 'tereena' but my mw always pronounces it the proper way and it sounds really weird and posh - my Mum would love it lol!

By the way, I popped in to see the mw and my blood pressure is fine - she has told me to rest and admitted she knows that is easier said than done when you've got a family to look after. I'll be making sure DH knows it has come from a professional but I'm sure it won't be a problem. Can't wait for a lie in tomorrow morning!!!

amyclaramum · 06/07/2007 15:00

plp - what an unusual name you have ! Very pretty. By the way did you call the MW about your hands hurting ?

Mrs Mar - great news about your trip to France - hope you have a fab time.

I am having a particularly crap day with DD2 off school - she's got a temp and sore throat so have been to Doc's for antibiotics. The poor love threw up all down herself and the sofa at lunchtime and is now asleep. I have just cleaned the sofa - yuk !!

Hope everyone has lovely weekend ! xx

amyclaramum · 06/07/2007 15:01

sorry purple have just read your last msg properly - glad you are ok - make sure you get that professionally authorised reat over the weekend !

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 06/07/2007 15:22

hello PLP, my dh vetoed emmeline, unreasonably in my book and i suspect he was getting me back for snorting at his latest suggestion 'ramona'. i said it was a made up name. he denied this but i'm not convinced.

er, hope i haven't offended anyone...

PurpleLostPrincess · 06/07/2007 15:27

Poor you amyclaramum, hope she gets better soon! It's not fun when they're ill, especially when you've got to clear up after that sort of thing!

I've just had an hours nap in the afternoon!!! I think I feel a bit better for it too! I'm just off to pick up the kids and do swimming lessons etc then get DH from work - he has promised me a foot rub tonight - yay!

PLP xxx

MrsFish · 06/07/2007 15:51

I could do with a nap myself

Rin23 · 06/07/2007 16:38

hello all!

Had a manic week so only just caught up with the threads. Good to hear about all the names and plans!

I'm afraid Freya reminds me of the class geek at school - isn't that awful? I am clearly quite superficial. But I've heard it's very popular. I really like Flora, Amethyst and Caitlin. And Liam, but I'm a bit biased as my DH is Irish.

Sorry to hear about some of your aches and pains, and all the GDs. I had my bloods taken on Tuesday so fingers crossed no probs. I stupidly took a fall outside the midwives - whilst crossing the road, fell right on my bump in the middle of the road - it was awful! I really felt the bump underneath me getting squashed. Anyway, went straight back to midwife to check heartbeat and it seemed ok. Am still a bit worried though, but read up on the pregnancy area about lots of others who had bangs to bumps and bore healthy babies, so fingers crossed. It's been kicking like a prize fighter ever since so I'm hoping that's a good sign (and not, as I thought at a low point, that it was having a fit.)

My midwife didn't bother measuring me - she just put down 28, to match my weeks. So either she was a bit slapdash or it's not that important???

I bought my nappies from the nappy lady - the advice seemed pretty good. Not planning to use them straightaway though, as they seem a bit on the large side and also don't want to run before we can walk, etc.

I think ice cream is the only sweet thing I'm not craving. For some reason, don't quite fancy it. Thank goodness.

Thanks for all advice re baby clothes and room temps etc - very useful to know. I confess I didn't realise that a vest had poppers at the bottom - I've been looking for vests as one of the books I have recommends buying them - but couldn't find any! I thought I was going mad. So thanks for clearing that up!

Anyway, I've gone on long enough - hope everyone has a good weekend - the weather (in London at least) is due to be good tomorrow. Typically, I'm going up to Manchester to see my folks. oh well!

Rxxx

EmLouT · 06/07/2007 17:24

Hi,

I'm new to Mumsnet and have never been on one of these message boards before. My baby is due on 14th Sept.

Can I join your chat?

PurpleLostPrincess · 06/07/2007 18:00

Hi EmLouT, of course - you're more than welcome! Congrats on your pg - have you had a look for the stats thread so you can add yourself?

ECATLM, sorry I must have crossed posts with you as I was dashing out the door... shame he didn't like Emmeline in the end. I'm sure I've heard the name Ramona before somewhere? Has he come up with any suggestions yet?

Poor you Rin, hope you're OK!? I hope people helped you up when it happened? Isn't it awful that the mw wasn't very reassuring!? Have a nice time in Manchester and try to get some rest after your ordeal...

Well, I've survived swimming lessons and the usual taxi service for the evening - now I'm going to finish dinner and then kick back and relax. I've got a bit of tooth ache but I've got a check up booked in for Wednesday anyway so I'm hoping it will won't get too bad before then.

kinki · 06/07/2007 18:12

Hi ladies! And welcome to our gang EmLou! Course you can join us, the more the merrier, just jump right in. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Had a boring day today. Drs in the morning (AGAIN), steroids have been put back up because my breathing is not so good at the moment. She wants me to have more ab's but agreed I didn't have to start them yet and I could self medicate if I think I'm getting worse. Then work. Then to town where I picked up my new glasses (horray, at last). But in kinki's world where things are running as smoothly as they usually do, I think they've made a mistake - in that I can hardly see through my left eye. They said to see how it is in the morning and come back if no better.

Sympathies seamonstEr for your asthma. They say mine is linked to reflux and heartburn, could that be the same for you? I've got 'silent reflux' which means its symptomless apart from the effect on my chest. I liked your post - the first part of it read like a poem all about pregnancy. Hope you're feeling better soon.

PLP, I prefer Amethyst to Harmony. I remember my mum telling me that she went to school with twins called Melody and Harmony. Their dad was a conductor. I'm asuming as in music, and not bus! I hope you don't get pre-eclampsia again. Talking of twins, do I remember correctly that one or two of us are expecting twins? I can't remember who that was. Anyone remember?

Tink, I prefer the my-a pronunciation for Maia or Maya. Very tenuous link coming, please ignore at will - I've always been interested in the Mayan civilisation and when we did some travelling in Mexico a few years ago I decided I wanted a little girl called Maya. But only boys for me!

Bad luck about the fall Rin, hope you're ok. Glad to hear your baby is well. Guess the amniotic fluid would have absorbed much of the impact. But I agree, its a worry when something like that happens. Was it Fio who fell down the stairs last week? Anyway, hope you get to relax on your weekend away.

Hope SeamonstEr's and ACmum's los feel better soon. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

SeamonstEr · 06/07/2007 18:15

Pp, did you go? Are you ok?
Hi, I'm due on the 14th as well.
I'm excited as I'm having my hair cut 'n' coloured tomorrow. Heheheheheh
Be careful after your fall, I have a friend who fell at 30 weeks and had her baby, all's well he's now 9 yrs old but still be careful, I'm sure you'll be fine though.
I'm not going to use washables for the first few weeks (probably) as it's just one more thing to feel pressured about and guilty about if I can't be arsed right then.

In fact my advise of the week is don't set yourself up for a fall by being cast iron about everything, from birth plans to feeding to nappies etc. Say you'd like to do this, would rather not have/do that, but keep an open mind. Having a baby is hard enough without feeling as if you let yourself or anyone else down.

There endeth the sermon.

SeamonstEr · 06/07/2007 18:18

I'm not getting heartburn at all as lo is transverse
Mine is stress and pollution/pollen related so I'm nowhere near as bad as you. Hope you're doing ok now.

kinki · 06/07/2007 18:18

Poor you PLP, why do toothaches always start on a friday evening? Typical. I hate the swimming lesson run too, its the worse one. I'm a bit glad that ds1 wants to stop this term and start hip hop dancing lessons instead . From my point of view the 'run' will be easier so I'm happy to go along with it.

MrsMar · 06/07/2007 18:24

Hello everyone...

been feeling a bit tired today, this is a looooong week, so I've been a bit quiet. I'm so looking forward to my first lie in on Monday, I've been having to get up early for builders for three weeks, got antenatal class at 10am tomorrow and going to see tour de france at 10am across town on Sunday, so roll on Monday, I'm going to sleep til midday!

Sorry to hear about your fall Rin, I'm glad everything's ok. That would have scared the bejesus out of me!

Welcome EmLou - feel free to join in on all our convos about aches, pains, heartburn, piles, varicose veins etc etc! hehehehe! We don't complain all the time, honest!

I like Emmeline, such a shame dh has vetoed it ECATLM, I too have heard of Ramona. I had an American penpal when I was little who was called Ramona (nowadays it always reminds me of that song, My Sharona, but with Ramona - ok it's official, I'm talking guff !!)

I'm working on Sunday night, but very happy to hear we're going to be having nice weather this weekend, enjoy it everyone!

xx

MrsMar · 06/07/2007 18:26

oooh i know what i was going to ask.... I've got a few sleep suits for the baby, and my sister is giving me all her unisex stuff she had for her girls, I've got vests and a couple of little hats (no coat or wintery type things yet, but we'll do that later when we know how big he is) but do we need to buy things like socks? Most of his sleepsuits have built in feet, but some of them don't, so I wondered should I get some socks for him? I don't want the poor love to have cold feet!
