laksa - my hair is brown, just looks red in those pics due to various dyes over the years I reckon the next one will be blonde the same as ds1, I was that blonde till I was about three and DH's family are all pretty fair haired

laksa · 03/07/2007 12:07

your ds's hair is lovely...looks like he's been to a good salon! I think we are def going to end up with brown hair and brown eyes. My hair is almost black, same with eyes and so is dh, so prob no surprises in store for us.

Chattyhan · 03/07/2007 12:13

laksa - re nursery temperatures my ds's room never dropped below 22 degrees whatever we tried and after several days of worrying i threw the thermometer away and decided it was going to be impossible! DS slept in a sleeping bag and in the winter he had a sleepsuit and vest under and in the summer just a nappy and sleeping bag. IMO if they're too hot or cold they won't sleep well and thats when i would try adding a blanket to see if it helped. Don't fret about things like nursery temps if you're hot/cold at night there's a good chance lo is too. just rely on intuition and common sense and you can't go wrong xx

laksa · 03/07/2007 13:15

chatty, I mentioned this to my mum and she said 'the baby won't suffer over a small fluctuation in temp, imagine how babies survived when there was no central heating or airconditioning' She is singaporean hence the airconditioning bit.

I know I'm overthinking it but I don't have any friends with babies so am pretty clueless. The last newborn I had alot of interaction with was my lil brother and that was 19 years ago!

Also I think my hormones are making me very indecisive. I spent half an hour in bed last night mulling over whether to hang the babies clothes in the wardrobe or fold them and put them in the chest of drawers. I used to have a pretty efficient brain!!!

Chattyhan · 03/07/2007 13:19

laksa - this is completely normal and i think everyone is anxious about the little things when expecting their first. I was just trying to settle your mind about it so you can put it out of your mind - and worry about something else!!!!

Looks like Caitlin's a really popular name, it's on our list too!!
Mainly cos I can't find a nice hippy name the DH will agree to! ((bloomin' men!! ))
It's either that or Abigail at the moment, and I'm not huge on either of those, they're nice but I'm not big on them, I want something like Zepherine or Seraphine or something pretty, or a flower name (but Daisy seems to be getting on my nerves a bit too LOL)

Anywho, time for a rant:
Yesterday was waiting in for Tesco delivery, today was oil day and then tomorrow was MEANT to be going out with a friend that I haven't seen for AGES, anyway, oil still not delivered, phoned the company and, wouldn't you believe it, that's right, they're delivering tomorrow!! The guy doing the delivery has "gone off for the day", whatever that means!! LOL

So, the one day I had plans PUFF gone!!
Rant over LOl

Got a funny taste in my mouth also, bit annoying, anyone else got it, like the metallic taste you get right at the beginning?

Also, got a call from DH a few hours ago, he's got a viral ear infection, more than likely I've got the same, dizzyness for 3 days and counting LOL, anyway doc gave him prescription but doesn't look like I'll be getting anything for it!! So just have to sit it out LOL
That's what I get for havign to wear ear plugs every night

Ooh, that was a bit ranty too LOL was meant to be picking up the mood LOL

This'll do

Hello ladies

Sorry, I haven't posted for ages.

I just had my 28-week appointment this morning and did the lucozade test, so I'll be getting the results later in the week.

Hopeitwontbebig - we went to see "Tell No one" last weekend - I agree with you, it was a great film. It was on at our local independent cinema. I found out that they do a Wednesday morning showing exclusively for Mums and babies, so I've signed up to their mailing list to find out what's on each week for that.

Anyway, I'd better get back to work, as I missed half the day due to the midwife appointment.

laksa · 03/07/2007 15:22

chatty, I have a long list, but will pace myself and only bring up one worry a week

kyala, seraphine was on my list (dh didn't like it) but decided that since there is a character called seraphina in the dark materials trilogy and the first film is out in december it might get a bit popular...also dh said it was too witchy!!

diddle · 03/07/2007 16:50

Hello ladies, haven't been on here for a long time, busy chasng around my baby, who has shockingly just turned 1. can't believe he's 1 already.
I'm now 27 wks, can't believe how fast its going. will read your posts and ge replying fast.

FlossALump · 03/07/2007 16:50

Hello everybody! Enjoying the last few minutes peace before I really do have to get DS up (i've just mopped the floors so my excuse is I am waiting for them to dry! )

I have made my mind up about my sling and brought that. IGW kindly lent me her moses basket, am going to try and get a second hand crib off ebay and the buggy, well, still seems a way off. I also want new toy storage and a hoover by the time baby arrives. DP wants a bathroom completed with new floor, door and blinds, and a completely flattened and re done garden with grass instead of lots of patio and concrete. Meanwhile we are flat skint! Still with a nearly £400 gas bill hanging over our heads. Ho Hum. Am supposed to be getting a new loan so we can afford me to work less after baby is born, so I suspect a bit extra will have to be added on top, for those oh and the heating system we need to get installed. I hate money. No matter how many extra shifts I do, extra things I sell I never seem to have any left.

Sympathies to those with the indegestion, mine hasn't been as bad this time so far but was truely awful last time. I had several days off work with it as I just was in agony and unable to eat sleep or drink. Every movement hurt. I'm feeling more uncomfy and only able to take small meals atm, but suspect that is more to do with a delicate tum after my bug. DS still not got it as yet - am daring to hope now that he won't. He seems to have a good strong digestive system. Fingers crossed for me!

My main cat gripe is that her sister lives next door with no cat flap, so keeps coming in via ours and eating all the food! We didn't catch on for several days and the cat was getting through 4-5 pouches a day instead of 2-3! So now she is strictly on 2 pouches a day, in the hope that less abundant food will make her a little more territorial over what is hers... Does that sound really mean? Dp thinks so.

I like all the names mentioned, Flora is lovely, and I also liked Caitlin and this DP wasn't keen either! The only name we both like is Isobelle. TBH I've gone off it a bit but don't think there is any other name I'll get DP to agree to now! Hate hate hate anyone trying to call the baby isobelle before it is born, DP used to do the same to DS and had his ear chewed off each time. Few people have done it this time. Real issue of mine.

My main gripe of the week is everyone telling me such different things about the way I look. Most people tell me I am huge, then the odd one (well ok one or two) tell me I am really tiny! It really does affect the way I feel about myself. The moment of truth will come tomorrow when I attempt to put my uniform on - that will show if the D and V has really taken any weight off!! Next week when I only have 4 weeks to go I'll move on up to the size 24 dresses , in a size 20 atm (see how can anyone say that is tiny???!!).

FlossALump · 03/07/2007 16:51

That was a long message again. My floors have been dry for at least 10 minutes.

diddle · 03/07/2007 17:03

wow Floss, sounds like you've got a lot on your plate at the moment. DIY is definitly something we've stupidly got little time to complete. In the last few weeks we have decided that rather than the new baby going in th same room as our little boy, we are going to decorate the 3rd bedroom, which is a box room really, but baby wil onyl sleep in it. But its added to the looooonnnggg list of jobs. The lounge has no paper on the walls, the kitchen and hall as no proper florring just floor boards, and the garden is now a nature reserve. so don't worry you're not the only one, and with a maximum of 13 wks left till baby comes, we're cutting a bit fine. one job seems to lead to another. flippin annoying.

Is anyone else seriously overdoing it? i definitly am. My body aches. Having a session of reflexology this week to relax me and get my body into gear.

I feel enormous, dread to think how big this baby will be, but i'm loving watches my belly chake with its kicks and punches.

kinki · 03/07/2007 18:29

Failed the soddin gt test. No surprise really, had gestational diabetes last time too. The diabetic nurse is calling me tomorrow to discuss the way forward. I really don't want to take more medication. But I suppose I don't have much choice.

The stupid cow next door to me caught me as I was walking by today. She told me how the state of front gardens say a lot about people living there and how disgusting it is that some people let their gardens lower the standard of the road. And how appalling some were. Can't think who's she meant. Oh that would be ours actually. Its not really that bad tbh, our problem is that half the people in our road are elderly and employ gardeners and the other half are newly retired with gardening as a hobby. Its one helluva standard to live up to. Might go out tomorrow with a pitchfork and see what I can do. I will not be held responsible for any injuries caused (accidentally or not).

Lovely name choices today! I think I prefer Freya to Flora, though both are very pretty. I also like Caitlin (dh's fave if this boy would have been pink) and Isobelle is gorgeous too. Can I throw in a boy's name? I'm interested if you think this name is a little dated? The name is Liam. We both like it, and I think it goes well with his db's (Seán and Ryan) but would really appreciate some honest opinions from people who aren't afraid to tell the truth! TIA

MrsFish · 03/07/2007 18:46

I really like Liam

PurpleLostPrincess · 03/07/2007 20:02

Oh poor you kinki on the GTT test - I don't know anything about GD but hope you manage to find a way through it. Sounds like you've got a bit of experience there...

As far as names go, I definitely prefer Freya to Flora but you've got to pick whatever you feel more comfortable with. Caitlin is lovely too. We were going to go with Corbin if we were having a boy but our two choices at the moment for this little girl are either Cerys or Amethyst (could be shortened to either Amy or Misty). Your thoughts are welcome! DH's are a nightmare when it comes to suggestions aren't they lol!

I've had such an awful day! I'm supposed to be enjoying not being at work but I worked at my Mum & Dads today and I've been feeling so ill. I know they would have let me do it another day but my Mums ill and I just wanted to get as much done as I could so I don't have to go again until next week (I do one day per week). I've been crying most of the day and I think its pure exhaustion. DH cuddled me earlier and I broke down - then DS (13 bless him!) went to give me a cuddle and I broke down again. I only got a few hours sleep last night again, my back and hips hurt, I've got constant heartburn, I'm either starving hungry or too full up and uncomfortable, I've got constipation and my hands and feet are all swollen. I'm now crying again!!!!!

So sorry guys to bring the mood down but I just needed to vent and I feel a bit better for getting it all out tbh... I know it'll all be worth it in the end and I can't wait to hold this LO in my arms. My bf is being induced tomorrow so I'll get a few practice cuddles in soon...

Floss - our cat used to steal sachets of food from our neighbours and bring them in like dead mice then suck all the food out! Once we sussed her out, we put a stop to it lol! Also, I sooo know what you mean about being absolutely skint, especially when we lose my income too - I'm really worried about having another mouth to feed but I guess we'll get by somehow!

MrsFish and Fio - what a small world!!!

FilBrit - hope the move goes smoothly and don't overdo it or we'll be wagging our fingers at you!!!

Do you know something - posting on here and catching up with you lot is very theraputic - I feel better already! Hello to everybody else, hugs to anybody I haven't mentioned...

PLP xx

MrsFish · 03/07/2007 20:13

{{hugs}} back to you, you sound as if you need them

kinki · 03/07/2007 20:42

Thanks Mrs F, I love it too (well obviously I suppose!!)

Poor you today PLP, no wonder you've been crying. In pain, uncomfortable, just stopped working, but still working, long days too, an ill mum, a family to look after, being skint AND a thieving pussy! No wonder you're done in. Any chance of a duvet day for you tomorrow? Sounds like we need to prescribe you some tlc and r&r (asap). Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

You're so right about the theraputic effect of posting here. I feel like that too. It's probably what's keeping me sane at the moment. Regarding your names I think I prefer Cerys. I've not heard of Amethyst before as a name. It does sound pretty and is original. I like the nn Misty, that really appeals to me. Oh, now I'm thinking Amethyst is best. This pregnancy lark is making me so undecisive, I'm hopeless. They're both lovely. (But Cerys wins by a whisker.) (I think.) (Or maybe....)

MrsFish · 03/07/2007 21:19

I like Amethyst - very unusual

Chattyhan · 03/07/2007 21:50

hello,

Floss - sorry you've got so much on at the moment - which sling did you go for? I love Isobelle my gran was Isobel and it's my sisters middle name. As for the money shortage i completely sympathise all our money is spoken for and i will rely on increased tax credits and CB to cover the extra costs of the new baby. We're supposed to be saving for a mortgage deposit and a wedding but there's never anything left

Diddle i know i'm overdoing things too but hopefully now works dropped to 2 days i'll be able to have some me time - who am i kidding not if DS has anything to do with it must sort out his weekend away with MIL!

Kinki - sorry about your GTT results - OMG re the garden - cheeky cow you should have given her your DP being a mum is a job speech and told her if she's got a problem with it she's welcome to come and do it herself! Re Liam - not on my list but I don't mind it. I only know one liam so i don't think it's a common name and it goes nicely with the DB names - ryan is on our list btw!

PLP feel better soon - we're all allowed our crap days! I love Amethest - very unusual and when she's older she can always use Amy if she wants an ordinary name! I bet there won't be any others in her class - unless we all poach it Don't worry i'm having a boy!!!!!

Chattyhan · 03/07/2007 21:51

Sorry for the spelling error re Amethyst - it's my birth stone you'd think i should be able to spell it

toadstool · 03/07/2007 21:58

I like Amemthyst. Flora's one of our favourites currently as it was DH's mother's name. She liked it because it was the name of a Roman goddess. There's another Flora I know of, so we were going to go for Florence but I find it a bit old-lady these days. But there are lots of Freyas around these parts - I know at least 4.
Sorry so many of you are having problems. I'm dealing with impending house-move, relocation, leaving old job, starting new job for a month, getting DD into new school/city/life, getting DD to cope with new baby at some point. Soon.
Have gone down with eczema-type thing on the hands. The GP said, "Any sources of stress at all right now?" Ooh, let me think...
Kinki, if neightbour is so obsessed with your garden, perhaps she'd like to do it up herself?? Might be worth suggesting that to her next time she starts.

Tinkjon · 03/07/2007 23:14

Oh Kinki, so sorry about the GTT But maybe you will be able to control it by diet this time and not need insulin... are you doing the low-GI thing? It definitely seems to have made my GD go away, so maybe it could make yours insulin-free at least? worth a try, I guess. Hugs to you!

I don't think Liam is at all dated, btw. And I prefer Cerys out of those 2 names - Amethyst would make a cool middle name though!

laksa · 04/07/2007 10:42

Morning girls,

Sorry to hear about your gtt test kinki, will you definitely have to take medication or can it be managed through diet?

flossalump, My cat goes into nextdoor but ones to eat their cat's food but they have just moved and he has gotten much more svelte since Oh,what sling did you get? I was given a baby bjorn but I want to get one that is suitable for breastfeeding and one that holds newborns in a cradle type hold. I am umming and ahhing over a tricotti, hugababy or betterbaby sling. To be honest I am sick of making choices and just wish there was one of everything and you had to buy that one, would make life so much easier!

diddle, your house sounds like mine. It is very stressful knowing that so many jobs need to be done at such short notice and me and dh are such lazies that not much progress is being made. At least we are doing our bit for the wild life

Purplelostprincess, go ahead and cry its good for you as it releases all your stress hormones. I always feel miles better afterwards, kind of relaxed and floppy I am getting to quite enjoying this vulnerbility lark.

Toadstool, sounds like you have a lot on your plate. I guess life doesn't stop just because we're pregnant and want to sit down for a while.

Well my contribution to the name dilemma is Genevieve. I can't use it as my dh friend just named her little girl this. I love it though. I also like isobelle or isobella but so many people I know have children with these names so not sure.

I went to pregnancy yoga last night and discovered something. One of the girls asked me if I'd given blood yet. I said that midwife didn't take it at my 28 week appointment and she said that they don't do it. I have to go to the hospital at 28 weeks and give blood there, apparently its in my red folder. My midwife didn't mention it and I thought the red folder was mainly for them to read not me

If I hadn't had this conversation I would have been clueless and nobody would have reminded as I have my next midwife appointment at 31 weeks.

Guess I am going to have to join the blood letting queue later.

xx

Pennypops · 04/07/2007 10:55

Morning everyone! Just signing in for the first time today. Kinki I can't believe how vile your neighbour was. Please ignore her rather than attemting to do a Ground Force job on it single handed!! I hope the chat with the diabetic nurse goes well - fingers crossed everything can be controlled without too much discomfort.

PLP I'm so sorry to hear you are so down. Lots of cuddles will hopefully make you feel a bit better. I'm sure this business with your hips can make it really difficult at times. I cry out of sheer tiredness and frustration at not being able to do stuff (and I suspect most people here have their moments of that!) so you are not alone. Hope you feel a little more cheery soon >
