Due March 2008 - is it real?

Oh my. Have name changed as I feel like a wee bit of a muppet for coming here while a bit uncertain. Will change back when I know one way or t'other for sure.

Was lurking over a cafe buffet this morning with DS, utterly unable to decide what I wanted to have for lunch. Told myself I'd have the chips but that they would probably taste metallic. Remembered how last night all the food in the house was unappealing, except two corn on the cob (?!).

Penny then dropped, though our TTC last month consisted I thought of getting it on magnificently before and after fertile time. Whipped into Boots for a 1st response after figuring I am 3 days pre-AF. Just got a faint but-its-there positive. BBC website says due date is 1st March.

Anyone else yet? I will not tell dp until the line is brighter for point and show effect, so will probably re-test Friday am. I will be keeping my news, if this really is news, virtual apart from twlling him for as long as possible, as I'm older, my thyroid is knackered and my miscarriage and anomaly risks are high.

Other than that, I am having a little smile:

Hello again everyone new! Thanks so much to you others for the list help, sorry I can't be more proactive with the list at the moment (extra work in, plus I've just waved my mum off, after a very helpful visit).

Piekin, I had ds at tommy's. Would have loved to use the birth pools, but was considered too high risk (extremely borderline raised bp, two sets of consultants disagreed with whether I sould have been induced or not). It was very frustrating as both pools were empty most of the time I was in first stage!

That was the main routine problem there, very medicalised place, loads of training docs, so they do err on the side of intervention. It was also one of those places where you get brownie points for labouring 'well' i.e quietly and without asking for too much attention. I was told so directly, and indirectly from the amount of praise i got from being quiet (I was just concentrating on coping is all). I overheard several different instances of mws/docs dissing noisy/demanding women in labour. Some of it was pretty out of order and I used my best glare on them each time I could. In between contractions.

On the plus side again, after a day and a half in first stage I asked how many more hours? They estimated 12 and I asked for an epi which I got 15 minutes later, as they have so many people able to do them! It was a decent ambulatory one as well. The delivery midwife was really good and her stitching of my tear got later visitors to my nether regions commenting favourably on her handiwork.

On the very big downside, which is so left field it shouldn't worry you, ds was born just a couple of hours before the 7/7 bombs went off and tommy's was locked down as they had so many casualties in. Many of the next shift couldn't get into London, and what is usually pretty poor aftercare by all accounts turned into absolutely no care. It was vile, but extremely unusual. They discharged ds as he was actually getting very ill - UCH admitted him to NICU 18 hours after our discharge. All's well that ends well, however.

Derah, I'm sorry to hear you mourning the changes to an old friendship like that. I've had a few similar instances - having a kid really precipitates this sort of thing doesn't it. I hope you work it out OK.

piekin · 18/07/2007 15:44

wow, thats quite a dramatic entry your ds made, 7/7, what a determined fellow he was! life must go on!Thanks for the info on st. Thoms, glad to hear about your exp. as I am quite medically shy and really would not like too much fussing etc. Also am quite expressive n probably would get up their nose! Am not totally put off through as I like the pool idea. Also quite int. in home birth but a bit scared about that!
ALso, wanted some supplements advice. Have started on Pregnacare, an all rounder it seems, but wondered if there is anything else that is really good for forming strong healthy babies! Any advice welcome. Am also int. in homeopathy too. What is the general concencus?

spugs · 18/07/2007 16:08

Im taking the santogen and the omega 3 fish oils they do as well, makes bubba cleverer and has the most benefit when your pg and during first 3 mths of life.

Do you think we'll get a set of twins on here? Due Feb have a set, saying that though i think theres only a 1 in 80 chance!

Oh and gross question but is anyone noticing that things are a lot 'wetter' down be low? Sorry to have to ask but i never really remember it from my last pregnancys but this time i constantly feel like im dribbling So sorry for tmi

Lcy · 18/07/2007 17:00

Hi Everyone

Congratulations and hello to all the new mums to be.

Piekin - i am going to book in for a homebirth on Monday. I have read alot about different ways to birth and think this is the best option for me. I want minimal intervention and want to make as much noise as i want! It is quite common where i live to have homebirths - and there were 2 in my street in the last year! Ofcourse if anything was wrong or i was advised against it i would go to hospital. I am also considering a local doula - as i am a first timer and would like all the help possible.

Lcy

Lcy · 18/07/2007 17:01

Oh and im taking santogen and the omega 3 fish oils too.

Im really trying to keep up a healthy diet - but all i want is chips

beckyndanuk · 18/07/2007 17:59

I'm taking my sanatogen and fish oil too!!
I am thinking about a home birth. DS came so quickly that we nearly did not make it to the hospital! However that was 4 years will have gone by when this one turns up. Any thoughts?
I think my due date is around the 23rd but I had a really irregular cycle.
Also - sorry to hog - ds ladned a knee in my stomach this afternoon and really winded me - do you think I should be worried?

derah · 18/07/2007 18:26

Hey BND, I wouldn't worry. Your bean is still safely tucked in your pelvis and nowhere near your stomach yet.

I'm taking Santatogen Pronatal and Vertese vegetarian omega oils. I took them with DD and she's a little genius so maybe they work!

Spugs, I've been wondering about whether we'll get any twins too. I think there were 2 sets on my birth board with DD, but then there were 300 of us!! DH is an identical twin, and so is his gran, so I'm a bit worried. I really hope I see only one bean at that 12 week scan!!!

Had a lovely long nap this afternoon.... about 3 hours. Problem is that DD slept 4 hours and is now very very grumpy and probably won't sleep tonight. She's been so dozy lately.... sleeping for 3-4 hours in the afternoon and then I have to wake her rather than her waking herself. Most odd. Maybe she's having a growth spurt or something.

piekin · 18/07/2007 18:29

hi bec, just to say I had a really big panic last week when I randomly got batted a cricket/furry tennis type ball-thing straight in my groin full force while on a walk in the park!( the guy who did it was mortified!) But seem to have been o.k so far. Not nice though huh! Does ds know about the baby?
Thanks to the others about homebirth stuff, cool to think there are other hosp-a - phobes out there too! p.s the sanatogen is that pregnancy care one? Do you think I should take that and the Pregnancare? Agree with the fish oils but might look to see if there is a veggie alternative .

piekin · 18/07/2007 18:30

Ah derah, I see you thought the fish oils sounded lovely too not! glad theres a veggie version!

spugs · 18/07/2007 18:31

Becky - dont think you need to worry about it, did you hear the story in the news a while back about the woman who was sky diving and her chute didnt open properly. She decked out and was rushed to hospital, turned out she was a few weeks pregnant and she and baby were fine. At this early stage there down behind your pubic bone where they are nice and safe.

I would quite like a home birth as both of mine so far have been easy by some peoples standards. Im to worried about the nighbours hearing me as my walls are paper thin and on top of this my friend has just had her 2nd and decided against a home birth at the last minuite. It was a good thing she did as the placenta came away and she had to have a cs under generalas they were in such a rush to get him out. If shed been at home they would have lost at least one of them saying that though she lives 45 min away from her nearest hospital and mines at the end of the road so im in a better position.

spugs · 18/07/2007 18:31

oh yeah and the placenta coming away isnt very common

Lcy · 18/07/2007 18:33

Hi Derah - I am really tired too. I am lucky that i can be flexible with work and have been coming home in the afternoon having a quick cat nap and then getting on with my work from home.

It is so miserable to wake up tired after a good nights sleep - and i dont have any little ones to look after!

Lcy · 18/07/2007 18:35

Spugs - my hospital is 5 mins away too. Sorry to hear about your friend

ConnorTraceptive · 18/07/2007 18:36

hi all

haven't had cance to catch up on whole thread it's busy in here now!

Welcome all newbies and congratulations

the sickness remains and just to add to the fun i seem to have developed excessive a mounts of saliva which i have to spit out into the sink every five minutes. Swallowing makes me feel sicker than i already do.

anyone else had this?

derah · 18/07/2007 18:41

Looks like we have quite a few prospective homebirths on here! My labour with dd was OK in the hospital was OK (could have been in the middle of the High St for all I cared!) but the after-care was non-existant and I want to be home with DH in my own bed, not alone and ignored in a noisy horrible hospital. Maybe we should add where we're thinking about having baby to our stats?

Piekin, yup, Vertese veggie omega supplements are great - completely vegetarian/vegan friendly. They come in a blue box with orange stripes and white writing and a big green leaf and you can find them with the other omega stuff in Boots etc. I think the preggie supplements are all OK; Pregnacare has a good reputation, I just like Sanatogen for some reason. Too many vitamins aren't good though so I suggest you choose one and stick with it.

Lcy · 18/07/2007 18:45

I hate taking the vitamin pills and fish oils - they make the nausea even worse!

spugs · 18/07/2007 18:50

Lcy - she was fine about it all, the worst bit about the whole thing though was that when she came round none of the nurses knew what she had had or if the baby was ok. Thankfully baby was fine and with his dad but you think they would have delt with things a bit better.

On the spit front i occassionally have a manky taste in my mouth, is most grim

ConnorTraceptive · 18/07/2007 18:55

just out of curiosity how many of you have shared your news with family and friends yet?

we haven't told anyone so far not even family, not sure if it's cause i feel ill and not all that excited at the mo, just want the ms to go away so i can be more upbeat. I know we had told people by now with ds. Will perhaps wait a bit longer.

Lcy · 18/07/2007 18:59

We have told my mum, my best friend, dh's best friend and my boss. Going to tell everyone else at 3 months - desperate to tell my sister etc... but after early bleed want to make sure everything is ok!

3madboys · 18/07/2007 19:03

evening all

i am hopin for a home birth too ds3 turned up in under 3hrs and i was discharged within 4hrs of having him, so i dont see the point in going to the hospital this time

i take the pregnacare supplements, but only cos a friend gave me her left over ones

i saw the gp today so they are arranging my scan, she was a bit c**p otherwise tho, didnt like the fact that i am still bfeeding ds3, when i asked about the fact i may have been exposed to 'slapped cheek' she said "oh well there is nothing you can do about it" grrr it raised my risk of miscarriage by 15%and thats all she could say

oh because i have spd and seem to have large babies, last two over 9lbs, she wanted me to have consultant led care i had this with ds2 and its a complete pita and a waste of time, i may have big babies but i have birthed them all naturally with no probs, iam not high risk at all, so i said NO, she wasnt impressed, but hey ho.

think thats me for now, oh and my great gran had three sets of twins so my odds are increased, will find out at the scan

ConnorTraceptive · 18/07/2007 19:07

hi 3mb can i ask what is consultant led care about?

ds was a big baby (10 pounder) and i had an awful birth, induction, pph, forceps delivery, tranfusion. very nervous about it this time round just wondering whether my ante natal care will be different this time?

no home birth for me i guess!!

spugs · 18/07/2007 19:07

Im crap at not telling people, had told myself that after last pg resulted in mc would not tell anyone apart from dh. was so bloody excited to be pregnant again that i told practically everyone within 5 min like i normally do. In a way wish i hadnt but then it makes absolutly no difference to the outcome and just means that everyone is going to feel like i have been pg for ever

mumofSlytherinsmonsters · 18/07/2007 19:21

can i unofficially mark my place please? had bfp y'day but am very worried as m/c last year and every niggle is making me run to the loo
Happily, i have symptoms this time..or at least in my head i do lol!

Due 19th march ish i think. although my dates have always been wrong lol!

I have a wierd desire to keep doing tests to see if its true!

WinkyGirl · 18/07/2007 19:41

I am dreading being told I need consultant led care too. DD was 9lb 10oz and I had a pph. But I dont want to see the consultant all the time because you have to wait AGES (once it was 1 hour 50 mins!) when you have appointments with them. Groan!

Spugs I have had the same 'wetness' and had it with DD too. Keep rushing to the loo to knicker check!

Am 5 weeks pg today! I left a message with the midwife begging for an early viability scan owing to losing two babies this year. Will wait to hear...
