OK I know it's VERY early days folks but someone's got to start this thread sometime. Due date between May 4 and May 9. Any other takers?

Hi all, I think I'm due in May - just did the test today - anyone know of any sites that can predict your due date if you put in the last day of your period?

cab · 25/09/2004 21:59

Bubu try googling bounty calculator. Congratulations to both you and myermay and welcome to the pot bellied pigs club .
This pbp is feeling awful tonight - pains across chest and racing heart - probably just wind.

Logic hope you're having a lovely night - re movements - I've no idea, sorry.

Hi, can I ramble a bit about a subject very close to my heart? Feel free not to listen...

Most of us are coming up to booking in time I think and I just want to say, please, please do some homework before hand. Most of my friends just accepted the maternity hospital that they were expected to use just because everyone else did, even though this meant that they didn't necessarily get the birth or care that they would have chosen.

We looked around at all our options and found a fantastic hospital that we would never have known about otherwise and had a great birth. It pays to do the research and it's your choice of hospital!

We used the Dr Foster's birth guide to help choose and you might be surprised to find that you actually have several options of maternity unit and not just the big local one.

OK, ramble over

cab · 26/09/2004 10:18

Good point logic. Was a bit concerned looking at stats recently to discover that only one third of births at our big local hospital are 'normal'. It also has a superbug problem. Mmm.

Fisil, I totoall agree with you about constant panic when pregnant except I know this goes beyond the first 12 weeks..as you said usually until baby is here.! My friend is currently about 23 weeks pregnant and has had quite a few scares, we were only saying yesterday that whoever said pregancy was a nice time must have been mad.! My friend has also seen what dh & I have gone through so its been a worry for her as well.
Just to let you know that following fridays worry I returned to the usual "hungover" feeling yesterday (without the fun of getting drunk i would like to add.!)and spent all day in bed again. Today looks like one of those days. I have never been so happy to feel ill.! Its nice to have acess to this site to get others opinions and advice

fisil · 27/09/2004 07:34

Hi, how we all feeling? This is my first ever 9th week of pg at work - both of my previous pgs I spent the 9th week in bed - first time I was just beyond coping by then, second time was when I lost it. I can't tell you how much I want to be home in bed right now - but I reckon I can make it through the week (so long as I get away early for a few naps!). Anyone else feeling knackered, sick and telling dp/dh that if he ever comes near them with that thing again there'll be all hell to pay?

LittleB · 27/09/2004 09:43

Hi Fisil and all,
Definitely feeling sick, and tired, but like you struggling on at work. I'm only in my 7th week though. I've also got a stinking horrible cold at the moment - does anyone know if its ok to take buttercup syrup? It says consult my doctor on the lable but that could take days! I feel part of the pot bellied pig brigade too - my standard issue work trousers aren't going to fit me for much longer - Which shops do people recommend for maternity wear - and which is more comfy, under/ or over bumb, adjustable/side fastening etc there are so many different types its a bit bewildering!?

logic · 27/09/2004 10:46

Fisil - I feel sick, knackered and pretty much rotten down to my toenails. I'll have to plead the 5th Amendment on the other though

LittleB - I used Mothercare for casual maternity clothes and a posh shop in Reading (forget the name) for the occasional nice dress etc... I am going to go to Blooming Marvellous this time too. Saying that, I spent most of my last pregnancy wearing a shapeless dress because it was really comfy or dh's shirts.

cab · 27/09/2004 10:53

at Fisil.
On maternity wear JohnLewis had some good stuff - but that was 4 yrs ago. Liked stretchy troos to go over the bump and also had a longish comfy dress for lounging around in. (Oh and my very old dungaress). But they're all gone now.

Had my scan this morning and I saw (I think) a heartbeat. So all appears to be well. Still feel slightly detached from the whole process though. Wish I'd known it would be an abdominal one though, needn't have shaved my legs last night.

Is anyone having a nuchal fold scan? If so, do you have to pay for yours and how much if you do?

logic · 27/09/2004 12:06

KIQFTM, I will be having a 12 week nuchal fold scan because the hospital that I use is a low-risk unit. They have to make sure that everything is ok so the scan is free. If it wasn't offered then I would definately go private. It takes a real weight off your mind. I think it's a couple of hundred pounds from what other people have said...

cab · 27/09/2004 12:16

kiqft they don't offer nfs in my local area. As I've said before I'm going to the fmc for it - cost can't remember - either £120 or £140?

p.s. Congratulations on your scan!

LittleB - try ringing NHS Direct (0845 46 47) to ask about butterbup syrup. They may just refer you back to your doctor, but it's worth a try. Get yourself along to a Blooming Marvellous if there is one nearby (or any decent maternity shop) and try on all their trousers until you find the type you're comfy with. I wore trousers a couple of sizes too big until about 6 months and then I always wore the type that come right up over your bump (you know, virtually nipple warmers). I know a lot of people hate them but I just loved how comfy they were, you couldn't feel them at all but they gave complete support. I think people don't like them because they are unsexy, but as I think I might of mentioned, pg does not tend to make me feel sexy anyway!

Sid · 27/09/2004 14:01

Had another blood test on Saturday, which showed less of the pregnancy hormone, also started bleeding again today, so I guess I am losing this one. Going in for another scan tomorrow. Feel really sad and stunned that this could happen after three really quick conceptions and OK pregnancies. Maybe I've been too smug, or too careless, or tried to organise my life too much or who knows? It's been really good to write on here as I haven't told anyone anything (except dh of course) and that is quite hard. I probably will sign off on this thread (don't want to depress everyone here) and wish all of you the best of luck. Might pop back in if I get lucky again!

cab · 27/09/2004 14:11

Sid I'm really sorry. Don't be daft about not posting on here - I think at least half of us have had similar experiences anyway.
Must admit after zero problems with my first pregnancy the first m/c was a major shock - thought I was infallible (sp?). So I can imagine that for you it must be much worse. Don't be hard on yourself - don't think I've ever heard of someone being the 'cause' of a m/c - these things just happen - those eggs of ours have been hanging around since birth (or is it before?) - so it's no wonder the odd one causes problems - and then there's the fish to consider too.
It must have been a horrible last few days for you. Look after yourself and try to get some rest. And remember that we're always here to talk to if you need us.

Sid, I am sorry to hear about your m/c.. How are you feeling?? Thinking of you {{hugs}}

Hi sid, thank you for being brave and keeping us up to date, you will always be an "honorary member" of due may05 and please keep posting if it doesnt upset you. We will all be thinking of you and tex111 and jnbsmum as we progress (or not, don't wish to count my chickens or anyone elses!!!)

I worked all weekend, ds therefore got sick ...sods law! was at the night doctor with him at 10pm last night, he has rotten cold and chest/ear infection. I'm getting it now, and would love to know what i can take, apart from honey, lemon, hot water etc....

welcome to myermay and bubu (now we have a bubu and a tutu)

logic · 27/09/2004 15:07

Sid - I'm so sorry
Please don't try and analyze possible causes. It's just one of those things (been there myself).
You need to take care of yourself and get better.
hugs

cfkch · 27/09/2004 16:44

I'm new to the group and just reading through some of the advice / support / comfort that you are all giving to eachother is amazing. In the early days of pregnancy it's always hard to know what is and isn't supposed to happen. It's nice to know there is a group of people to talk to all going through the same things you are (in varying degrees)

Sid - even though i've not been corresponding with you, my thoughts are with you.

cab · 27/09/2004 17:42

Hi cfetc and congratulations!! Have you got a due date yet?

Sid - thinking about you too

Some people just don't get any symptoms at all. I'm definitely not as queasy as I as last time and not as tired either, well not yet anyway.
