@wineandchoccy I’m off to Aldi!

Wineandchoccy · 30/12/2018 22:13

It looks good and I have just googled the bag that it is a copy of and it looks identical.

Angelmiracle · 30/12/2018 22:22

That bag looks ideal! Unfortunately no Aldi near me. But I did see a very similar one to this on Amazon same price so might just go for it.

Starting to get impatient that I've a lot to get yet Confused

I'm struggling with breathlessness a lot with placenta and baby's head at the top I've quite a short torso - makes me feel claustrophobic.

With growth scans having started now my MW didn't schedule in an appointment just said to check in with her if there's bit of a gap between seeing consultant. I see them on 10th at 27+6 Do you think they'll do my bloods? Or will they assume my MW is doing that? It's a bit confusing!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 31/12/2018 08:21

I'm still seeing my midwife for bloods despite the growth scans so maybe worth asking the question in advance incase you need an appointment with her too for that.

ballanj · 31/12/2018 08:55

Morning everyone,

Like many of us, have taken a while to catch up with the thread and topics are moving quickly!

Going back to grobags, I got a pack of two in the mothercare sale (mothercare own brand) which are 2.5 tog and are 0-6 months. I'm thinking blanket swaddle from birth until hulk is in them safely and comfortably.

We've had such a busy weekend and did quite a baby shop on Friday. On the clothes front, we've picked up a selection of newborn and 0-3 month sleepsuits and some vests, couple of hats and socks. I'm not really sure how much to buy him clothes wise for those early few weeks! I think we'll have a lot of gifts from people so really holding off as much as possible. What is everyone else doing for clothes purchases for the first 6 months?

We purchased a Snuzpod which other than the pram gifted by my in-laws, is the single most expensive item we've purchased so far. Also managed to find a second hand changing unit from eBay for the nursery for £40 late Friday night and we were able to pick up Saturday morning. That's definitely our best bargain so far. These babies are costly little things aren't they!

I'm also wondering what to do about a changing bag. Other than nappies and nappy sacks we've got the essentials now so this is the one thing left for me to deliberate over for the next two months 😂 I was initially thinking of something that hangs over our buggy or should I just use a rucksack or other suitable bag (I have many!) any thoughts or ideas welcome on that!

Wineandchoccy · 31/12/2018 09:36

@ballanj last time I bought about 10-14 vests and sleepsuits so allowed enough for washing etc
I’m not a massive fan of outfits on tiny babies so dd was just in nicer sleepsuits in the day with a cardigan then plainer ones at night.
Didn’t bother with socks until she wore outfits but I have bought a pack this time because I imagine it will be colder than when I had dd so could wear them under the sleepsuits.
We did get lots of gifts but people mainly bought 3-6 months onwards and I had to return lots because by the time she would have fit in them it would have been winter and people bought summery clothes.

If you do buy a rucksack style bag you can buy clips that fasten it to your pram, some bags they are included or amazon have them for less than £10.

DH job for his day off this week is sort our baby things in the attic so I can wash and sort what we have. It’s all beginning to feel a lot more real

Angelmiracle · 31/12/2018 12:42

@SquirtlesMumAgain yeah I think I'll need to book in with midwife. Whilst urine and BP is checked at hospital I don't think they'll do bloods.

I'm also tempted to get into the attic today but I'm nearly sure it's all boy clothes. I lent my neutral newborn sleepsuits and vests to my cousin and they could be in any of 3 houses which is annoying 😑 I was gifted loads for DS so I'm only going to have 12 or so sleepsuits and vests and couple of cardis until we see what we get. Used socks under sleepsuits DS was a December baby.

There's a snuzpod on gumtree near us I'd love to get but also weary January is a longer month waiting to get paid.

Angelmiracle · 31/12/2018 12:44

Maybe more ^wary than weary 😂

OP posts:
Wineandchoccy · 31/12/2018 13:41

I don’t know @Angelmiracle I think weary kind of covers it at the minute Grin

Angelmiracle · 31/12/2018 14:08

@Wineandchoccy just writing how Im feeling 🤣😴

Nightmanagerfan · 31/12/2018 15:46

@balanj I’m going to use a rucksack I already own and have bought some wet/dry bags on amazon to store nappies etc, as well as a travel changing mat. I didn’t want to get another bag just for a few months as I’ve noticed a lot of parents ditch the nappy bag after a while.

My mum took us to the John Lewis sale and bought us half the shop! I’ve been blown away by people’s generosity - either family and friends buying us or lending us stuff. I’ve got about four/five baby grows and vests in the first three sizes (newborn, 0-3 and 3-6) and a very talented aunt is knitting us some Scandi style cardigans. I think that’s enough for now and if we have a summer like last year the baby won’t need much over the summer - few shorts or dresses and vests.

We also got a Tomee Tippee nappy bin starter kit (half price in John Lewis) on the recommendation of several people. We live in a flat and having a small baby over the summer it seems to make sense.

Anyone else’s baby moving loads? Mine is going crazy at 28 weeks and it hit the Doppler a few times at this morning’s midwife appointment!

Gronk27 · 31/12/2018 17:52

@nightmanagerfan yep hit 28 weeks and she started going mad!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 31/12/2018 18:56

DH got our some baby things today - we have a small vac bag of tiny baby and newborn stuff out to wash.
We have all the bits for the car seat I think now so just got to wash the cover and put it back into newborn mode. Found the bedding for the moses basket as well I think just got to go through the box!

Will be odd not storing it after March.... Definitely our last baby so it can all go!

WhatALearningCurve · 31/12/2018 20:22

Does anyone else feel like they're incubating an internal radiator? I am constantly boiling (not in a worrying fever way but in a 'feel like I'm wearing a jumper in summer' way). I went to my friends this morning to drop some stuff off for tonight and realised I've lost all concept of temperature. I genuinely thought it was a really mild day and she said that it was freezing! I'm now in a T-shirt that isn't actually fully dry because the fact it's wet is the only thing cooling me down

SquirtlesMumAgain · 31/12/2018 21:55

Definitely @whatalearningcurve although it was worse with DS than this time. He was a proper hot water bottle!

Gronk27 · 31/12/2018 21:56

Does it feel a bit more real now it’s nearly 2019?!

WhatALearningCurve · 31/12/2018 22:11

@SquirtlesMumAgain I am having a boy so maybe that's the trend!

Wineandchoccy · 31/12/2018 22:35

Yes I’m so blooming hot, DH put the radiators on earlier and I had to go and stand outside 😂

Wineandchoccy · 31/12/2018 22:36

@Gronk27 yes it does scary to think babies are nearly here 😃

Angelmiracle · 01/01/2019 00:46

Happy New Year mummies 🎉

Our babies will be here THIS year 🎊🎆🤗👣🍼

SquirtlesMumAgain · 01/01/2019 09:24

Happy New Year everyone. Hope all the babies arrive safely and promptly without really early surprises and long waits!

For anyone wanting one I have just seen Aldi have gym balls on their offers this week. I enjoyed mine last time and found it again so need to get it blown up! Much easier to get on and off than the sofa

BadBadBeans · 01/01/2019 09:29

Happy New Year guys!

Backpack changing bag has been great for me - I still use it as my main bag and DS is 2.5. I had the SkipHop one which was quite pricey at £60 - the Aldi one looks great. Prettier than mine, too! Although I got one as plain as possible so DH could take it out with him.

Can't believe how fast the weeks are flying now. I am 29 weeks tomorrow. The 28 week appointment was fine - except the midwife struggled to get my blood which made me feel a bit woozy! Also it took place in a delivery room as the other ordinary rooms were occupied, which did feel a bit weird!

I did some gardening two days ago - digging out raspberry canes and (attempting) ash saplings. Could barely bloody walk last night!

Starting to think about the things we don't have. I can't afford a new pram and am unwilling to spend a lot on something we won't use for long anyway. I am going to ask around local friends to see if anyone wants to sell theirs. Also I have seen a Quinny Buzz for sale locally for £80 which looks in excellent condition, but I don't know much about that brand - anyone have one? My other needs are a new changing mat as DS's has all but disintegrated, and a bouncy chair which I didn't have last time as our house was tiny and I couldn't stand the thought of cluttering it up, but I feel like with a toddler it is going to be essential this time round. I also need to think about the cot situation - whether I turf DS out of his cot bed and buy him a toddler bed instead, or just buy another cot bed. Decisions decisions!

cardboard33 · 01/01/2019 10:37

Happy new year everyone!!

@ballanj we are also struggling to get an idea of numbers for things like babygrows as everyone you speak to just says "buy lots" but doesn't really quantify it. We are probs going to get around 10 0-3 months initially and then see what people give us/how big baby is. It's annoying as we don't live near a big supermarket or have a car so have been making the most of Christmas outside of London to go to retail parks with the family given tesco etc no longer deliver their non food items.

@nightmanagerfan yep!! I've been saying this week (also 28) how active it seems to be recently. It's non stop! My mum said that neither me or my brother moved that much so she has no experience of it. I hope this doesn't mean I'm carrying a big baby as we were both v small despite being taller than average now. I read there's now been a reduction in the amount of amniotic fluid which is why we can feel more movements.

@whatalearningcurve that's me!! I'm normally always cold and wear so many layers compared to others and husband's house is always a nightmare as I swear it's about 10 degrees colder than everywhere else. This year his parents had ramped up the heating due to me being pregnant and I've been really hot (like you not wearing that much) and it felt like I was in a sauna. Being pregnant has been the only time in my life where I've felt warm.

In other news we got back home yesterday from the annual grand tour of England. I got quite annoyed with husband's dad as he was acting like being pregnant meant I couldn't do anything, and I know he means we'll but it really annoyed me how much he was checking in every 5 seconds to ask if I was ok/needed anything/needed to sit etc. I'm pregnant not ill!! He was also going on about how commuting via tube etc must be awful when pregnant and I said mine was fine in comparison to other Londoners as I get on where I get seats etc and he just continuously kept going on about how I should work from home every day to avoid the stresses of transport. Grrrr!!! Anyone else had similar with all of the extra people they've seen recently??

cardboard33 · 01/01/2019 10:45

@badbadbeans meant to add, on the cot bed front, there's a lot of good deals atm on them & mattresses so if you do want a new one then now might be a good time. There's also loads on FB marketplace etc for sub £50 where you'd only need to buy a mattress. We were going to do that but then saw JL had the range we were looking at majorly reduced so wasn't much more to buy new. We've got our bed & a M&P mattress (which? Best buy) new for £180 and that's not buying anywhere near the cheapest of everything as husband has a thing about investing in quality sleeping gear so is religious about getting the which "best buys".

Nightmanagerfan · 01/01/2019 10:57

Happy New Year all and here’s to a life-changing year for us all!

@whatalearningcurve yes I’m continually boiling. I’m usually a cold person but am walking around without a coat!

@cardboard33 yes to the annoying relatives! My family were lovely but my MIL was annoying me so much - trying to give me advice (all outdated but she’s a nurse so thinks she knows everything), and telling childbirth stories over Christmas dinner!! I wasn’t able to tell her to be quiet as she was hosting but i did change the subject a few times. Interestingly we had a visiting baby on Christmas Day (a three month old) and the parents are doing things v differently from how we plan to - which is fine and each to their own etc. But my MIL was giving them non stop “advice” which gave me a hint of what she might be like once we have our baby... argh. Has anyone dealt with this before? (She also gave the visiting baby some sugar from the sugar bowl “because babies love sugar”, and at that point I lost it and said that no baby needed sugar!!)
