Now that's all out of the way in the thread title we've all got to head down the "things can and will only get better now" ok?? All ailments stop and nothing but good things will befall us all.

Right.

Morning Lizzie Run yourself a nice bath if you're feeling achey and sore. Suddenly realised yesterday how heavy the baby feels when walking. Going to try and have a snooze later, but got a baby prep workshop this pm with DH. I'm amazed I managed to convince him to come - a bit of glossing over what it involves (massage moves and yoga) did the trick!

What are you up to while your DH is at Silverstone?

lizziemun · 07/07/2007 06:37

I would have had a bath DD has decided to get up now, so no chance now . She is now painting a picture.

As for what I will be doing today, I have to go to see my grandad this morning (he's disabled and needs a few bits done), then this afternoon i might forget to bring dd home from mums and have a snooze.

Mum lives around the corner from me.

growingbagpuss · 07/07/2007 08:55

No news from Kite then? Hope she's ok.

Lucky peeps going to Silverstone - Im restricted to TV viewing and the tour de France practically going by my front window!!

How nice to wake to sunshine!! Makes even the worst of nights sleep seem ok. Up at 2 with DS, stayed up an hour as I had heartburn, did the Soduko puzzle, then managed to go back to real sleep - and even had a dream!!

I dreampt we had a nest of pidgeons in our bedroom - and we hadn't even noticed!! One of them stole Ds's HAppy feet penguin. Wierd huh?

Have a nice w/e - will keep an eye out for Kite.

JSer · 07/07/2007 09:32

Morning - ok this weekend is a house-blitzing frenzy (panic - not me!). And I have a quick question. There was some messages a wee while ago about prewashing stuff. I've bought some muslins and a baby blanket - should I wash these then before using them for the first time?
DH is busy emptying what will be the baby's room of power tools etc so we might have a chance to decorate it b4 LO arrives. Was thinking that this baby better turn coz if it reamins breech there's a chance it might come early (i've heard that the manipulation thing can sometimes bring on labour or c-section will be 38/39 wks!) and we'll be a bit screwed - honeslt we haven't got anything - the muslins and blanket are my first baby purchase. Tried hanging upsdie down for abit last night to encourage baby to turn - when I woke up this morning my bump was a totally lopsided cone shape! Maybe that's a good sign.
Hope Kite is ok and you early risers aren't feeling too knackered

bananabump · 07/07/2007 09:37

Hope kite is ok, does anyone know if she has the internet at home or just at work?

Can sympathise on the spd front, mine is horrendous at the moment, my pelvis keeps on doing massive audible clunks and cracks when I try to turn over or open my legs, dp had to try and roll me over last night cos the whole area was in spasm. Getting quite worried about it now, and I'm still hearing tiny snapping noises when baby moves low down.

Honestly, the things pregnancy does to your body! I'm starting to feel quite fed up now, would like my body back please. He's about to get served an eviction notice I think!

bananabump · 07/07/2007 09:40

JSer, my big sis told me to prewash anything that would be against baby's skin, but not to worry too much about blankets etc, just do them if you want to.

I've washed everything anyway, I bought fairy non-bio because it smells like babies and I keep wandering round sniffing teeny tiny socks the size of my thumb! I'm a mentalist. lol

loler · 07/07/2007 11:35

wash the muslins a couple of times as it softens them up and makes them more absorbant - so the baby sick doesn't just run off them!

Hope Kite is OK too?

JSer · 07/07/2007 12:23

Thanks banana and Loler. Have just put them in the wash - 3rd wash of the day already. i feel like a washer woman! Am anxiously willing the black clouds to pass harmlessly overhead...

Washersaurus · 07/07/2007 13:48

Hello all, so much happening yesterday couldn't keep up. My scan went well yesterday - placenta has moved to 7-8cm so think am all clear for a natural birth..HOORAH (I may regret saying that )

Weirdly though, I had a message on my phone from the hospital delivery suite asking me to call. When I did they said they had been really worried about me and had considered calling the police to look for me....I was very confused...she then told me I had been booked in for a c-section yesterday -I didn't know what to say - nearly fainted !!

I hope Kite and bump are OK.

growingbagpuss · 07/07/2007 18:12

Washy - thats great news!! Seems everyone is quiet today.

Glad all went well.... we're getting there. Now just need some good news from Kite, and some of these naughty breech babies to turn.!!

bananabump · 07/07/2007 22:26

Good news washersaurus! Weird about the c section though, why had they booked you in for one? surely it's too early just yet for things like that?

Still no news from Kiteflying? I'm getting a bit worried now, hope everything's ok.

I have to adit that I'm starting to get "the fear" now, after months of saying "bring it on!" I'm starting to feel scared of labour, especially since my SPD is just so bad at the moment and I can barely walk/open my legs/move without quite severe pain.

I'm trying to figure out what positions I should try to give birth in so I don't damage anything, and I've read that if you give birth on your back, the sacro-iliac bits (tailbone/small of back) can't move as they should so the baby's head is forced against the symphysis pubis (the bit at the front of the pelvis that is the problem in SPD) forcing it to open more than it should and causing lasting damage. It sounds pretty grim.

The more I read about SPD, the more I hear that a lot of midwives/doctors don't take it seriously, and therefore many women get shoved into stirrups and suffer for ages after the birth because the midwives didn't respect the fact that the legs should be closed as much as possible in order to prevent trauma to the weakened joint.

SPD isn't even mentioned on my notes (there's some vague point about hip pain back at about 5 months but that's it) so the midwife might think I don't even know what I'm talking about. It's all a bit scary, and today I have been actually considering asking the consultant about the pro's and con's of an elective c section, just to avoid permanent damage.

Seriously, someone tell me if I'm just being a bit of a pansy. lol

growingbagpuss · 08/07/2007 09:10

You're not being a pansy!! I get cramp in my hips v badly, and did so during labour, which hurt like hell - but maybe not as much as labour itself.

Invest in a yoga mat - and as someone else suggested some cheap cushions - going on all fours may not be dignified (but since when IS labour dignified?) - and you can rock forwards onto your elbows when at the height of a contraction.

I was determind not to be on my back, but after a couple of hours kneeling against the sofa, my knees were so sore it was awful - i did give birth sitting on my bottom - with one m/w supporting my cramped hip as LO popped out!!

I don't know a lot about SPD - but agree no-one seems to tkae things seriously. I have 2 friends who had bad SPD during labour - I'll try and ask them if it affeted things.

Worried about Kite too - maybe she's jsut stuck in hosp for observation and can't log on?

treacletart · 08/07/2007 09:34

bananabump, I've been having (apparantly quite mild) spd - seeing an osteopath regularly has worked wonders, but researching positions showed all fours and water births to be very helpful. If you need to lie down then its best on your side. If you have an epidural, apparantly its helpful to measure how far you can comfortably move your legs apart beforehand and take a tape or ribbon into the labour room with you so noone spreads you too far if you do end up in stirrups. Make a fuss!

conkertree · 08/07/2007 10:44

morning folks - dont have anything to add about spd i'm afraid, but i do agree that the fear is slightly kicking in with me too. but then i keep reading everywhere that pain increases wth fear because you subconsciously tense up more, so keep telling myself that the more relaxed i can be the better.

off to finally buy our pram this afternoon - hope there isnt an 8 week waiting list or anything, but am pretty sure they said last time it was a couple of days to order it.

think apart from that, am reasonably well prepared - just need to tidy the house a bit - but hoping that i actually get a nesting instinct cause otherwise can see it not happening.

kite could well only have access at work - we should probably hear tomorrow.

conkertree · 08/07/2007 10:46

and yes washer - interested to hear why you were apparently booked in for a c-section - does somebdy have teh same name as you - i was told there were 2 people due to give birth in the hospital i am going to in August with my name so I will be keeping a close eye on the date of birth on my notes etc.

Uki · 08/07/2007 10:52

HELLO AGAIN

I'm a bit slack at keeping up, but it's getting so close and exciting now, i'll probably be here every 10 minutes.

I think i've started to feel the baby move down lately and I'm not due till 15th so i imagine it must feel very real for Bananabump, washerauraus, babymad, and others i can't think of????

Annie- yes I am suffering right now with the most terrible of colds, maybe flu, I'm not sure i'll cope with labour now, really don't like suffering, aching body, high temp, violent cough, throat of razors. I have tried eucalyptus oil, lemon and honey, steamy bathroom, but also had to resort to panadol, codine and cough medcine. I could not move from bed for 2.5 days

Washersaurous- that's funny and strange about the hospital nearly calling the police on you, i wonder what they were thinking???

kite- also stange about bump, hope all is well.

enjoy your weekend everyone else

Who's not on maternity leave yet????

conkertree · 08/07/2007 10:57

me - i'm not - was to finish on 20th july but have decided to take my two and half days holiday so finish at 1pm on wednesday 18th (not that I am counting the minutes or anything). will be 38 weeks that day so think thats long enough.

bananabump · 08/07/2007 11:17

Thanks for your thoughts on the spd guys, I tend to waver between thinking everything will be fine and I'll be home posting on MN within 24 hours, and then thinking that I'll have a 50 hour labour, run out of energy, have to have an epidural/episiotomy/ventouse/crowbar, followed by a section.

I suppose I just need to have a moan to the midwife on friday and see what she says.

Was up at 6.20am for no apparent reason so cleaned the kitchen, and ironed all the baby clothes. Think I'll spend the afternoon repacking the bags and doing some more bulk cooking to freeze. Oh my exciting life lol

Off to get raspberry lef tea capsules tomorrow, and the last few little bits I need for the hospital bag, and then all I need to do is get all the bills/paperwork filed and in order, and nag dp to do some final little DIY things round the house, and I'm done!

(Knowing my luck baby will decide to be massively late and I'll be bored witless with nothing to due in a months time lol)

conkertree · 08/07/2007 12:15

yup those were my thoughts bananabump (about being bored) when i decided to work to just past 38 weeks, but now that the bad sleeping is really kicking in, I can see the benefit of a little boredom in comparison to being totally knackered all the time.

Am looking forward to going to the cinema during the day by myself and maybe some swimming etc once i do actually finish work.

Uki · 08/07/2007 13:05

Conkertree- yes i think 2 weeks should fly by pretty quickly, must admit I'm not up to work ATM but that's 80% because i'm sick and feel 100% crap.

Bananabump- ironing baby clothes!!!! that's major nesting i don't think your baby will be late

bananabump · 08/07/2007 13:22

More exciting plans than I've had, conkertree! Mind you I've been off since april so I guess the novelty of being at home has well and truly worn off! I'm such an ingrate.

Well, got my bulk cooking done (and bulk washing up, good god!) so we've now got about a months worth of home made meals frozen- as long as we fancy quorn mince or fake chicken every night we'll be fiiiine. lol

bananabump · 08/07/2007 13:26

Well, according to everyone I've been nesting for over a week, but no sign of baby! and I don't even think he's engaged any more, his head doesn't feel like it's right "there" when I sit down any more, which isn't a bad thing to be honest, it was very uncomfortable!

Nevermind, he has to show his face sometime. Just gotta be patient.

Uki · 08/07/2007 13:49

Banana- your efforts are amazing, what an organized mummy you'll be.....
Go put your feet up and get some dvd's or go to lunchs with friends.
i've just watched in a week
-Vera Drake
-Million dollar Baby
-You me and everyone else and
-Modigliani.

They were all pretty good, especially the last three, i'm going to hire some more now.

Or get a good book, Now that's what ML should be about

bananabump · 08/07/2007 14:30

Uki, you so have the wrong end of the stick... this isn't nesting per se, it's more blind panic cos I've done sod all for the last 8 months and then dp said "My mum wants to come down for a few days after the baby's born" and I just kinda panicked!

The threat of an inspection by the mother-in-law is enough to get anyone bleaching their nets, trust me.

The real task will be keeping it tidy. I'm getting better than I was in my student days but I've never been incredibly diligent when it coes to housework.

In fact I've seen an advert for a local student girl who is looking for a temporary cleaning job over the summer, which I was considering, her rates are cheap and she sounds pleasant enough. Trouble is, she's a model in her spare time and she looks like this

I'm probably being a bit paranoid and unfair, but good/bad idea inviting her into your home to meet dp when you look like a lumpy frumpy postnatal zombie with babysick down your back?

And would I really feel comfortable with her cleaning my loo? In fact I could see me giving everywhere a quick clean round before she came round.... lol

growingbagpuss · 08/07/2007 16:15

I think I might have just killed myself....

I walked down the hill into Town to watch the Tour de France, and on the way back even the police were asking me if I was ok!!

And now, I've jsut realised that the brown lines in the shower tray aren't meant to be there... they are soap scum. So I've spent the best part of 1/2 hr on my knees, scrubbing the shower - to only about 50% success.

The LO is objecting big time. Ooops
