Now that's all out of the way in the thread title we've all got to head down the "things can and will only get better now" ok?? All ailments stop and nothing but good things will befall us all.

Right.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Nice surprise at work today. You will probably remember I've been complaining about how hot it is is the office since the stupid contractors ripped out the AC in the building. Well apparantly my company got a refund (on rent I suppose) and so this morning we were all given £200 of Selfridges vouchers as a token of appreciation. Now do i spend it on me or the baby?

Thought I might buy my Maclaren Techno XT buggy (that I will use once baby is a year old) but I'm not sure they sell anything apart from Bugaboo's. Could buy a nice expensive coffee machine I suppose for when we get lots of guests after baby arrives. Decisions, decisions.

GillL · 06/07/2007 13:12

Washersaurus - take it easy. Dh asked me to help him move a chest of drawers a few months ago. I wasn't impressed. Lol about shaving the cat!

SweetyDarling - make sure you get yourself some tiny baby clothes. Dd was 6lb 9oz at birth and all newborn clothes drowned her.

banana - I've been dispairing about the state of our house. DH dumps his stuff wherever he happens to be standing and if I mention it to him he asks me where I suggest he puts it. I don't say what I'm thinking at that point.

I haven't started my birth plan yet. I really should get round to it. Last time I forgot to take it with me but I had told dh and mum what I wanted. Although it didn't help that when I was in loads of pain and couldn't talk they kept checking with me.

growingbagpuss - I like the bit about "no i don't want to feel the head crowning, or see it in a mirror.". I just wanted the baby out!

itchy - not nice about your dp and mum disappearing. My dh just sat looking like a rabbit in headlights the whole time and wasn't interested in taking part in any of it. He didn't want to cut the cord and pretty much had nothing to do with me. If he'd had his way he would have stayed at home playing computer games til it was all over.

Hersetta - spend it on yourself!! If you're like me you won't get much chance to treat yourself once the baby's here.

Have any second timers been offered parentcraft classes? I'm 33+5 today and it's not even been mentioned. I'm not that worried and I probably wouldn't go but I would at least want an up to date copy of the hospital requirements.

Annie75 · 06/07/2007 13:14

Ooh, what a nice surprise! I'd save it for after the baby is born and see how you want to spend it then (if you can afford to wait). I'm worried I'm going to be a mess after the birth, with usual clothes not fitting and the few maternity ones I have having fallen to pieces. So, I think the nicest thing would be to have a few vouchers you can either use on you, or on bits for the baby after.

Thanks for colds tip, Mrs B. Will take a trip to Boots or Neal's Yard tomorrow and see what they recommend.

growingbagpuss · 06/07/2007 13:20

Spend it on yourself!! You have the next 18 years (and then some) to spend your hard earned cash on LO (and not so LO!!)

I have just written to my employers reminding them of an NHS directive suggesting they pay people in lieu of holiday if their mat leave over runs the financial year.... if I get my money (its worth about £1000 to me!!!!!!!) - I might spend some on babe I suppose... but by April (I'm sure they'll stall as long as poss) I will SOOOOO need a new wardrobe. I shouldn't get too excited, this is the NHS we're talking about.

GillL -no I didn't get offered parentcraft classes - interestingly last time there was only 1 2nd timer, and she was only there because last time she'd had an emergency c section in Malaysia, and was new to the "wonderful" NHS - lucy lady had a VBAC so was very happy.

kiteflying · 06/07/2007 13:33

mw wants me to come straight in.

Annie75 · 06/07/2007 13:36

Try not to panic, Kite. Good luck and let us know what she says... x

Babylovesmuffins · 06/07/2007 13:39

Good luck Kite - fingers tightly crossed for good news for you.

Babylovesmuffins · 06/07/2007 13:53

Hersetta that's fab that you were compensated over the lack of A/C - I'm 99% sure that my company would not have passed on a refund to us!! Would be nice to treat yourself to something, after all you've suffered in the heat for so long.

MrsB, that's great that you're donating your cord blood. My friend has a 24-month old boy and a 5-month old girl. Her little boy developed Acute Myeloid Leukaemia 7 months ago and when her little girl was born in February they kept the stem cells from her umbilical cord. Her little boy has had 4 lots of chemo which were unsuccessful but he's just had the stem cell transplant and we're hoping that it will be successful - it was only given a 5% chance of working, even though his little sister is a 100% match. But 5% is better than 0%...

Personally, I think the NHS should store stem cells for every baby that's born, in case they (or their siblings) need a transplant in later life. There are private companies that offer to store your baby's cord cells but they charge about £1.5k for the privilege... Anyway, that's just my opinion! It's something I'd never have considered until my friends had been through all of that.

growingbagpuss · 06/07/2007 13:58

Good luck Kite.

Hope you're flying agin soon.

Keep us posted.

bananabump · 06/07/2007 15:32

Hope everything's ok Kiteflying, let us know as soon as you get home!

I've had a lazy day of washing and drying teeny tiny babyclothes today. Mountain of ironing and folding to do but at least that's another job done!

Just done an online asda shop and stocked up on nappies, wipes, washing powder, toilet rolls and washing up liquid. I know I can send dp shopping after he's born but I'd rather keep the list to a minimum, otherwise there's a danger he'll come back with toddler swim nappies and deowipes.

Babylovesmuffins · 06/07/2007 15:33

Think I might've killed the thread sorry! anyone else suffering from the Sherman Klump syndrome?? My feet and fingers have ballooned this afternoon...

GillL · 06/07/2007 15:50

Hope everything's ok kite. Let us know what happens.

That's a really good idea banana. DH does the shopping every week anyway and I can normally trust him to get what I ask for but it wouldn't hurt to pick up a few weeks worth of basics.

bananabump · 06/07/2007 15:51

My feet and ankles are perpetually HUGE, like sausages with toes. It'll be worse when the weather heats up...we've been lucky so far!

conkertree · 06/07/2007 16:14

yup my feet are the same - have had a pain in my left ankle for about three weeks now particularly when i push it away from me, and have now developed a pain down the left side of my right foot too.

and my wedding and engagement rings have been off my hands for about two weeks now.

am starting to think that i really would be quite pleased if the lo decided to come a bit early - getting slightly more organised at work so wouldnt be such a huge amount to leave now if i did go off before i am due to.

but work have just arranged a leaving lunch for me on 16th july, so would be nice if i was still around for that.

hope things are all ok kiteflying.

Babylovesmuffins · 06/07/2007 16:56

yup - my rings are going to have to come off soon too Conker! At least we've got another 6 weeks of lovely rain forecast so chances are it won't get too hot.

Have a nice weekend everyone. Off to Hypnobirthing on Sunday!!

bananabump · 06/07/2007 17:41

Still no news from kite? Hope everything's ok.

MrsBadger · 06/07/2007 18:24

love to kite for when she gets back

have just been replacement ring shopping with DH as my wedding and engagement rings won't even fit on my right little finger any more and I feel naked without them! £6 eternity-a-like sparkler from Accessorize - very pleased.

mum2george · 06/07/2007 20:24

Another shiny new thread for all your breech LO's out there:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=49&threadid=351728&stamp=070706172822

Kite, keep us posted on how you are, will be thinking of you.

mum2george · 06/07/2007 21:02

Oh, and Kite, you shouldn't be over your birth plan, I think its fab and its got me thinking about mine more.

And I wasn't having a go over the asking for a consultant thingy. Know I can be abrupt at times sorry. Its just that I hadn't realised you could do that.

You are right not to want a Junior, who after all might be doing it for the first time, stitching you up.

bananabump · 06/07/2007 21:09

Well, no. I keep hearing stories from all over the site about people getting stitched up and the midwifes saying "do you think this bit goes there?" etc

I can't blame Kite for wanting to have someone there who knows what they're doing. I bloody would!

mum2george · 06/07/2007 21:28

No, I don't blame her either, not at all. I think its a very sensible thing to want, especially as one of my mates was stitched up by a doc who winked at her DS whilst saying "I'll make it that bit tighter shall I?" She has been in pain with it for ages.

bananabump · 06/07/2007 22:01

That's so rude of the surgeon, hope she didn't accidentally fart while he was down there, that would have been a real shame LOL

Annie75 · 07/07/2007 05:35

Anyone awake? Woken up by starvation pangs an hour ago. typical at the weekend

Kite - how's your bump doing?

lizziemun · 07/07/2007 05:48

Yes me, have been up since 5am.

I cant sleep, not hungry just uncomfortable did about 30 mins of walking to doctors yesterday and i am very sore spd, and where the baby sitting.

Oh well after i have had my cup of tea i will go and make DH and FIL a packed lunch as they are going to silverstone today.
