Now that's all out of the way in the thread title we've all got to head down the "things can and will only get better now" ok?? All ailments stop and nothing but good things will befall us all.

Right.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
bananabump · 22/06/2007 14:48

lol washer, you haven't killed the thread. I bet we're not the only ones thinking our dp's won't be much help when it comes to getting up in the night! Mine can sleep through literally anything, I often have to shake him a bit to wake him up (then leap back to avoid flailing arms and cursing!) so I don't think he'll have any problems ignoring the baby crying.

He has to get up at 6am, he usually ignores his alarm until I get him up, and I have to now or he's late for work. I have no idea how that will all pan out when I've been up with the baby half the night. I can even hear his alarms from the spare room so they'd still wake me and probably the lo up. Unless I get up at 6am anyway by choice? (There's nowt on TV at 6am though!)

God... to think I used to be an art student, not getting up til the afternoon, staying up all night by choice with tequila and sexy unsavoury men. Things change!!

kiteflying · 22/06/2007 15:24

bananabump your nostalgia for the heady days of all night partying has made me whimsical as well!!

Well I am going to start things to cheer us all up, or make us laugh anyway -

Five things you love about being pregnant?
Five things you hate about being pregnant?

Mine are:

Love:

  1. Feeling the baby move, and better still seeing it happen just under the belly!
  2. Utterly clear skin for the first time since I was twelve
  3. Choosing baby names together with your loved one
  4. Being soppy about baby clothes
  5. Suddenly understanding why your mother still worries about you even though you grew up decades ago

Hate:

  1. Morning sickness that never seems to stop
  2. Getting over morning sickness only to have hip and pelvic pain within weeks of feeling better
  3. Lack of sleep (especially as we are getting more now than we will...)
  4. Travelling anywhere, whether by car, plane or tube suddenly becomes an obstacle course of rude people and discomfort
  5. rude hospital staff that you dread being part of your baby's arrival
katybird · 22/06/2007 15:28

lol bananabump, how things change indeed! I'm toying with the idea of getting Sky Plus so there's something to watch in the wee hours - a friend of mine swears by the Dallas reruns.

Kite, I'm working on my list but it could take me a while, will post when I'm done.

Babylovesmuffins · 22/06/2007 15:33

LOL at all your DH/DP stories and can relate to lack of sleep problems... DH not been too bad, in fact he's been an angel but I feel like I'm milking things a bit. I reduced myself to tears the other night as I couldn't get to sleep and DH fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. Needless to say I didn't get much sympathy from him at that point... My friend just had a baby a few weeks ago and was still asking her dH to get this and that for her, before she realised she could actually do it herself again

Nice to see some other August M2B's back again!

Itchy - are you going to Edinburgh Royal now? I think I'm going to St John's in Livingston. There doesn't seem to be any difference between the two hospitals, only that ERI is more modern and a little bit busier but both have good reports.

Babylovesmuffins · 22/06/2007 15:43

Good post Kite!

My top 5 loves of being pg:

  1. Feeling baby move
  2. Having someone with me all the time and being able to have "conversations" with them without feeling silly!!
  3. Healthy skin and hair
  4. Being spoilt by DH and family/friends and getting attention with my bump
  5. Looking forward to meeting a little person who's half me and half DH

My top 5 hates:

  1. Feeling shattered
  2. Not being able to eat pate, soft cheeses, peanuts, smoked salmon, prawns etc etc
  3. Not being able to have a few glasses of wine with my meal, never mind getting bladdered once in a while
  4. Coping with travelling/commuting - bus/car/train and trying to walk through busy shopping centres/streets
  5. Not being able to get any clothes to fit properly and being fed up with all my maternity clothes but don't see point in buying any more with such a short time left...
kiteflying · 22/06/2007 15:47

Oh BLM I like your list. I forgot the bit about mat clothes - I have some lovely dresses that I never got to wear because the weather just has not warmed up and so I may never wear now. And trousers that should have lasted until nine months and already are too tight in the middle
And you are right it is too late to add or replace anything now.

mum2george · 22/06/2007 15:58

Babyloves, what do you mean we can't eat smoked salmon or prawns or have a glass of wine Ignorance is bliss!

katybird · 22/06/2007 16:22

I love your lists! Good point about mat clothes, my trousers are getting tight now. I'm trying to convince myself it's still ok to buy new ones because I'll wear them after the birth too, can't see myself zinging back into shape somehow!

I'm v about your ability to spot bits of baby when your bump moves kite, I still haven't managed to identify a hand or a foot.

These are my top fives, in no particular order.

5 things I love about being pregnant

  • Random acts of kindness by strangers (people who give up their seat on the bus before I've even had a chance to stare at them pointedly)
  • Watching my bump grow and no longer worrying about holding my stomach in when I'm in public
  • Group hugs with dp and the bump
  • Only having to wash my hair once every three days
  • Feeling the baby move

5 things I hate about being pregnant

  • Morning sickness
  • Hip/back ache
  • Not being able to find a comfy position to sleep in
  • People looking at me funny when I order one small glass of wine in a pub
  • Limited food if I eat out (being vegetarian and pregnant is no fun!)
Babylovesmuffins · 22/06/2007 16:44

Hahaha, love all your "loves & hates". Katybird, I definitely second only having to wash your hair once every 3 days - it's great!! I used to have to wash mine every single day...

Kite I also bought a lovely summer dress and was going to wear it to a party last week, only it peed down with rain and I ended up wearing wet weather gear... DH is taking me out for my birthday next week so I can wear it then!!!

Mum2George - I have had the odd sneaky salmon & cream cheese sandwich (and the odd glass of wine)... I just hate that there are guidelines about all these things which make me feel guilty I am looking forward to a glass of bubbly and a prawn mayo sandwich after giving birth!! (Mind you, a cup of tea and toast will probably be sufficient by that point...)

kiteflying · 22/06/2007 16:54

Katybird - I second your "random acts of kindness". Great list! I still am a bit about all the MUST NOT EAT items, and didn't know so didn't avoid smoked salmon (I thought it was not raw so OK?)

Hate that you get funny looks in the pub - why does the world become a pregnant woman's judge? It is all very well getting fond or sympathetic looks from other mums in public - quite like that bit.

Have been reading the July thread and there are already babies That could be us in a month's time....

katybird · 22/06/2007 17:14

I'm glad someone else has magically clean hair, I thought you might all think I was being greasy.

I've been preparing arguments in my head in case anyone tries to stop me having a drink, especially since the government have changed their advice. I get paranoid about things like that, silly really - I think I've only been in a pub four or five times in six months!

I like getting looks from other mums with bumps too, it's like being in a club.

at July babies already! I'm off to have a read.

bananabump · 22/06/2007 17:31

ooh, lists, let's see:

The good stuff:

  1. The baby! Feeling him move, wondering if he has hair, who he most resembles...
  2. Getting closer to my older siblings despite huge age gap (more in common now)
  3. Having something immense to look forward to (meeting the love of my life and probably bane of my existence all at the same time)
  4. Discovering new things about dp and being able to give him a son.
  5. Getting to be lazy and having an excuse to eat what I want.

The bad stuff:

  1. No alcohol and less social life as a result
  2. No money cos I'm not working
  3. No energy, plus being fatter and heavier than usual
  4. Pregnancy porridge brain: Can't do the simplest sums in my head/read long pieces of text
  5. Aches, pains, sleepless nights, varicose veins emerging on legs (no stretchmarks yet though!)
growingbagpuss · 22/06/2007 17:45

gosh its going to be difficult to think of anything different

5 good things -

  • knowing each day is a day closer (no matter when she deigns to arrive)
  • Having cleavage for the first time ever
  • Having no migraines for 9 months plus
  • Each day nearer is less chance for any rellies to get seriously ill.
  • 9 months mat leave means all summer off, and xmas too!

5 Bad things

  • Spotty chin (hormones) -how come u lot are clear skinned?
  • Legs from hell (look lke an ordnance surrvey map)
  • Porno flaps (you have to read another old thread to know this one... just enter the words in the search bit, from about 3 months ago!!)
  • Lack of sleep
  • Not being able to go on long wear-the-boy-out walks
lizziemun · 22/06/2007 17:46

I can't think of any good things at the moment. I am having a bad day, not slept very well the last 2 nights. Wednesday night i tossed and turned and dh shouted at me to lay still then turned over and kept snoring, i don't care if he was a sleep i didn't make him lunch yesterday. I tossed and turned again last night, dh is having the garage converted into an office for himself so everywhere is a mess and the smell of paint is not good.

Today a freind pick me and dd to take us to nursery, as it over a mile away and is getting a bit far to walk for me.

I had to pop to asda for some bread (about 5mins from nursery), i just got to outside the doctor surgery when i twisted my ankle and fell .

I had to phone my mum to come out from work as she is nearing then dh and bring me home as i can't walk.

I am trying to rest my foot, dd (3 1/2) was trying to help and tried to take her dinner to the kitchen when she finish what she wanted, and dropped it on the floor by accident it was spag bog so i had to try and clean the carpet without hurting myself.

katybird · 22/06/2007 17:46

Like the list bananabump! I can't wait to see what he looks like - dp and I have different skin types, so it'll be interesting to see if he has olive skin or is freckly like me. Or both! We both had white blonde hair when we were little, so that'll be interesting too (I have the ginger gene and I've never understood the stigma but not sure dp agrees!).

I forgot about the stretch marks. I think I have some emerging on my hips, but I have loads from puberty anyway so I'm not too bothered.

katybird · 22/06/2007 17:51

Lizziemun, poor you. Don't worry about the carpet, put your leg up and get some rest. DH can clean it when he gets home, it's the least he can do. Tomorrow will be better.

Growing, lol at cleavage and porno flaps!

bananabump · 22/06/2007 17:56

Poor lizzie, I've had a bit of a sore ankle for a few weeks, feels like I've sprained it but don't remember doing it. And the only thing you can do is rest it, I feel sorry for you not being able to get much rest with your dd around! Must it immensely hard to be this pregnant and look after a small child as well, my hat is off to those of you who aren't on your first!

Porno flaps? eh? Last time I checked things were fairly normal down there, now I have to look forward to elephantine ladyparts as well? Oh the humanity!

katybird · 22/06/2007 18:32

Have a good weekend everyone, hope you don't get rained on.

itchyncsratchy · 23/06/2007 14:13

I know you're all busy on Saturdays but look Agent Provocateur has a new maternity line!!
How exciting is that!

growingbagpuss · 23/06/2007 17:19

Happy Bunny

Been shopping ON OWN -DH took DS out for afternoon, as I've had the noisy little lunatic for 5 days solid.

Bought post babe tops, goodies in boots - good offer on huggies- if you are in the parenting club, buy one pack of nappies and get the changing bag free - Which i think was worth it. We won't use many disposables, but 1 or 2 a night will soon get used!

I am so not looking at AP underwear - I feel HIGHLY unsexy right now and can't belive anything would change that!

growingbagpuss · 24/06/2007 14:01

Ok - i did look at the Ap website - WHAt the hell was that "post natal" thing? I've never seen anything so ugly?! Why would you go to the trouble of putting on stockings, and then have your DP face the knickers from hell?

OMG. Just not a good look.

Mind you, found pictures of just born DS earlier - like still attached to Me just born. wierd. DH and I edited most of them (the M/W stole our camera and took all sorts of undescribable pictures) - but clearly we missed that one!!

growingbagpuss · 25/06/2007 09:23

Clearly I have too much time on my hands - either that or i've killed the thread - and everyone else thnks the AP post natal knickers are just LUVERLY

lizziemun · 25/06/2007 10:15

growingbagpuss

I agree with that post natal thingy look ugly and uncomfortable if you could manage to get it on.

my ankle is now a nice shade of black and very swollen after my fall on friday, along with sore wrists and elbows, ahoulders where i stopped myself. Bump is a bit sore but baby is moving around ok.

So i will just have to take the next 2 weeks easy, of course this is nothing to do with watching wimbledon.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend.

growingbagpuss · 25/06/2007 10:19

Yuo poor thing - hope the weather improves enough for you to be ABLE to watch any tnnis!!

I am stuck with the lunatic DS who's spots are slowly crusting over (nice) and I'm hoping to get back in to work for my last 2 days this week..... then the world is mine until the LO arrives!
