@FrazzyAndFrumpled we didn't find out with DS either, and just like you, DH got to tell me what he was. That's what's stopping me finding out, I want him to have that again.. but I feel so much more impatient this time

sodababy2 · 05/11/2018 16:03

Totally the same @SPR1107 - really want to find out but I don't....

Last time I REALLY wanted to find out but DH persuaded me not to and it was a genuinely lovely moment to find out in the delivery room.

So this time we're not finding out again but it's killing me!

At the scan if there's any Willy waving you can always get the sonographer to tell you to look away.

Interesting @Ohnonotanotherusername. I had a huge feeling DC1 was a boy. Was convinced. But it wasn't!! So I don't trust my feelings any more....!

SPR1107 · 05/11/2018 16:32

I knew DS was a boy from the minute I found out I was pregnant @sodababy2. I was that sure, me and DH agreed if it was a boy I would name him and if it was a girl, he would name her... thankfully he was a boy because I hated the girls name!

MigMog · 05/11/2018 16:59

We've gone for the surprise option. I really want the other half to tell me when baby arrives.
Were both really not tempted to find out at all.

jess21690 · 05/11/2018 17:30

I'm so impressed with all your restraint about finding out!! Me and my other half are both too impatient, I also feel like it will help me bond with baby and in my head it's a boy so we refer to it as he and I would get a big shock in the delivery room if it was a girl!
I totally understand everyone's anxiety between now and the 20 week scan, I think I feel more nervous than I did at 12 weeks!! I think it's because I'm really starting to get excited about the baby. Like others I'm not sure if I've felt movement yet, had some 'was that it?' moments but I'm so desperate to feel it move I'm worried I'm imagining it! Seeing the midwife on Thursday so hoping I can hear the heartbeat again to put my mind at rest.
17+5 today

5tarlight · 05/11/2018 19:01

@newrubylane I have had a couple of brief bleeding episodes like that and am convinced it is cervix. Each time it has happened, the next time I went to the loo there was little to no sign of it, so based on that I felt probabaly no reason to worry. If it continues def call MW to be on safe side.
Well looks like we're bucking the trend - found out today we are having a little girl!! We got our nipt results a few weeks ago over the phone and then had the actual letter (with the results plus the sex) sitting here ever since, unopened, while I flip-flopped over wanting to know/not wanting to know. DH was v keen but was up to me. Curiosity finally won out! What was nice doing it this way is I got him to open the letter and tell me so it came from him. We would have been happy either way but knowing is really lovely and feels that much more real (especially as am now not feeling very Pg at all at the moment, apart from slightly larger belly, as you say Rosalind we are at that awkward middle bit!) Of course, only 99% accurate, and will be asking them to have a look at the 20 wk scan too if possible, and not planning on telling many (any?) people anyway. But completely understand those not finding out, is a personal preference!

16wk appt later this week, really hope MW will check heartbeat but seems not always done as standard so will see.
Final Q- anyone getting weird short sharp stabbing pains in boobs/through nipple? Quite intense and comes out of nowhere! Am sure is all part of what they are gearing up for but it is most bizarre!

newrubylane · 05/11/2018 19:18

@5tarlight - thank you. I feel better knowing it isn't just me! Also getting occasional boob pains here x

Footymum81 · 05/11/2018 19:25

DH and I have decided to find out. DD was a surprise so I’ve had that experience (this is DH’s first baby) and by giving way on this I get my own way somewhere else! (Like the water birth he thinks sounds a bit weird) We’re only telling parents and my DD that we know, going to tell everyone else that we couldn’t/didn’t find out. Money’s a bit tight so being able to pick bits up in the winter sales for next year will be very handy.

Buttons28 · 05/11/2018 19:47

Another team yellow here 💛. The plan is not to find out until the birth but it is so hard knowing you could find out if you wanted to. Have our 16 week appointment next Monday, really hoping we get to hear the heartbeat which will put my mind at ease until the 20 week scan.

@sodababy2 I like the idea of adding which team we belong too on the due date chart 😊

Has anyone had any issues sleeping at night? I'm trying to train myself to sleep on my side and I'm finding it uncomfortable.

16+1

monkerina · 05/11/2018 20:21

Finding out ASAP here, 20 week scan on the 20th- need to 1) cut down on name discussions 2) prepare DS- he's convinced he's getting a sister so need to let him know if it's not! He's also got me convinced so it'll be a bit of an adjustment if we're team blue.

SPR1107 · 05/11/2018 20:31

Cut down on name suggestions @monkerina we haven't even got one possibility yet.. finding it so hard!

monkerina · 05/11/2018 21:11

That's our issue too @SPR- DH is all for leaning the process (we're both IT managers!) by reducing the target by 50% 😂

jess21690 · 05/11/2018 21:26

@5tarlight @Buttons28 my midwife listened to the heartbeat and also suggested I make a recording for my partner at my 16 week appointment (which was actually at 14 weeks). She asked if I would like to hear the heartbeat so I think maybe it isn't standard but they know it makes us feel better! If your midwife doesn't offer maybe explain you're feeling anxious and ask?

39Suzy · 06/11/2018 08:16

@5tarlight my boobs are really sore at the moment, almost like a burning pain (and enormous!).

@buttons28 i am finding it harder this time to get into the routine i think but as you get bigger, you will probably find it more comfy

I had my early anomoly with my consultant yesterday (16+4) and all looking good. I have a normal anomoly scan booked in two weeks and an MRI to check the brain (my last pregnancy was a TFMR at 24 weeks due to a brain abnormality steming from a vascular interuption much earlier in pregnancy) and detailed brain anatomy scan too as lots happens over the next few weeks in terms of development. To those ladies worried about their 20 week scan, only a very small proportion find anything whatsoever of concern so definitely try and relax about it 😊

No gender reveal for us as baby was clinging onto the umbilical cord likè a rope swing. So we will have to wait a few more weeks. Big relief yesterday 😁 but now on countdown again until the next one!!!!

39Suzy · 06/11/2018 08:19

Oh and have definitely felt baby moving and when i asked the consultant she said it is probably as the placenta is posteria (back) and high (last time was anteria or front). After dinner last night i could feel lots of flutters so got hubby to have a feel and he could feel it too. So nice as it was 20 weeks before he felt anything last time. Good day all around!

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 06/11/2018 08:24

39Suzy so glad the scan went well for you. And feeling movements too! Sounds like a happy day in the 39Suzy household Smile

jess21690, I was going to ask if the midwife would listen to the heartbeat at my 16w appointment on Monday, so it’s good to know yours did. I love hearing it on that little machine, it’s always such a relief each time (a bit irrational at the later stages when you can feel baby wriggling around!)

newrubylane · 06/11/2018 09:01

We intend to find out at my 20w scan - 4 weeks to wait. I've always wanted to anyway, but DP wasn't sure. However with twins we decided it would be easier if we knew for names etc.

Turtle05 · 06/11/2018 11:04

I'm just wondering how people found their 16 week midwife appointment?
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but other than take my blood pressure and test my urine nothing else really happened. Like I say, I'm not sure what I was expecting but thought I might be told some kind of advice or something that I haven't yet been told?!
This may just be me being anxious, as you've all said this in-between stage can leave us feeling a bit worried about not feeling pregnant!

italianwifey · 06/11/2018 11:32

@turtle05 I had mine yesterday and was exactly the same - blood pressure, urine test and she listened to the heart beat. Oh and she said something about skin to skin contact and noticing a pattern of movements by 24 weeks but that was it!! 15 mins tops

MigMog · 06/11/2018 12:13

Pretty similar.
Blood pressure. Urine test. Weight. Filled some of my file out. Baby heart beat. Booked future appointments. Flu jab and talked about me being rhesus and what that means.

Ohnonotanotherusername · 06/11/2018 13:50

Mine was very brief too @Turtle05. BP, urine, checked that I'd booked my flu jab and that was pretty much it.

MigMog · 06/11/2018 13:56

TMI time - but this is pregnancy isnt it.

Has anyone noticed an increase in leaking/discharge recently?

Today I've felt like there's been so much more. My underwear has been damper that usual. Monitoring it with a tissue for now to see how much there is

SheRaTheAllPowerful · 06/11/2018 14:48

MigMog I’m on the tena lady Sad

MigMog · 06/11/2018 15:07

Totally planning on swinging by Boots after work @SheRaTheAllPowerful

Sometimes I read things and worry myself more but I've decided to just see how it is. It's not a stupid amount but suddenly today because a lot more than usual.
