It's perfectly normal Catkin....I've just remembered to get a savoy cabbage, and DH actually went to the supermarket yesterday FFS!!

hollyandalice · 16/06/2007 21:23

Yes, your brain does go, it is normal! I think it's the combo of bfing and tiredness, it addles your brain!

annobal · 16/06/2007 21:24

HUGE congratulations Catkin! Lovely names as well. 26 hours, bloody hell! Were you at the hospital the whole time?

I go and have dinner and come back and there is another birth! Yay - I'll have to eat more

pinguthepenguin · 16/06/2007 21:24

Foxy, i presume so.....i was losing a bit before then, but it had no blood in it.

Dont know if it makes a diferrence anyway, cos nothing else is happening!

daisyboo · 16/06/2007 21:26

Hows it all going Catkin...sleeping and feeding well?

evenfattercatkin · 16/06/2007 21:29

Labour was induced because of pre-eclampsia and the Syntosin drip set things off. Waters were broken. The actual labour was really pretty enjoyable! I had to be monitred throughout so movement was limited....but no where near as bad as I thought.
I was all set to push him out myself when the cord became wrapped around his neck. He was whipped out with forceps and with the help of a heavy duty episiotomy. Ouch.
We had to spend a week in hospital because Callan needed help wth feeding, but he's doing great now.
He was 6 lbs exactly.

doggus · 16/06/2007 21:29

Ooh many congrats catkin, tell us all!

And sputnik, loads of congrats, we have been wondering about you both.

Good luck, TA, really hope it is going well for you (everything crossed).

I went down to have a row with dh over Daphne and fell asleep. In the glamorous life that is chez doggus we are now in PJs, eating crumble.

doggus · 16/06/2007 21:31

Catkin - what does it mean, help with feeding - is that if you're bf? Or would that happen with a bottle too?

evenfattercatkin · 16/06/2007 21:31

I love the way DH thinks he's typing what I want but it bears no resemblance to the words I said!!

hollyandalice · 16/06/2007 21:33

What problems did you have? Was it coz he was a bit early? Glad your labour was ok, if a little hellish at the end!

evenfattercatkin · 16/06/2007 21:35

He wasn't feeding at all - He didn't seem to know how to suck and a vicious circle started whereby he was too weak to eat and then too tired to wake up. It was really awful but I got some great help from our local hospital and they helped us both over a few days. He was tube fed initially with EBM and he's now BFing quite well.

bumperlicious · 16/06/2007 21:36

Congratulations catkin. Glad you had an enjoyable experience, despite being induced, that's good news. Scary about the cord, though, and ouch for the episiotomy. Glad all is well though. Is he feeding ok now?

OP posts:
evenfattercatkin · 16/06/2007 21:38

Apparently it was just beacuse he was a little early and a little traumatised during birth. It took ten minutes to resuscicate him too - I've never been so scared!!

foxybrown · 16/06/2007 21:38

Thats hard when they don't eat. Well done for getting through it and so nice to hear you got good help at the hospital!

hollyandalice · 16/06/2007 21:38

That's fab catkin! So glad you got the help you needed to get him feeding well. So happy for you!

foxybrown · 16/06/2007 21:38

Shit! That must have been awful Catkin

So glad he is OK now

hollyandalice · 16/06/2007 21:39

Oh god, that must have been the most awful 10 mins of your life! You poor thing.

evenfattercatkin · 16/06/2007 21:42

He's been getting better at the feeding although he's been a bit fussy today. He seems reluctatnt to latch on properly, pulling away and then getting frustrated and screaming! I have no idea what the problem is and am racking my brains to work out what he's not happy with

foxybrown · 16/06/2007 21:43

could be anything. Something you've eaten perhaps? Bit of wind?

Whats very, very important IMHO is that you stay calm and relaxed about feeding (so easy to say, so hard to do!)

evenfattercatkin · 16/06/2007 21:45

It was awful but the birth was so wonderful that that just made up a tiny proportion of the whole experience.

hollyandalice · 16/06/2007 21:45

I think most babies go through that phase. Bfing doesn't always come naturally to all babies or mums (I know it didn't with me or my dd), sometimes it has to be learnt. It does get easier though and it's really good you have support from the hospital! Well done for keeping going!

foxybrown · 16/06/2007 21:46

I really want mine now

pinguthepenguin · 16/06/2007 21:46

I've just been for a wee and theres a small bit of what looks like fresh blood amongst the loss. I'm cramping slightly. Is there anything to worry about?

evenfattercatkin · 16/06/2007 21:46

Thanks Foxy, I'm trying to keep that in mind!

daisyboo · 16/06/2007 21:47

Catkin, you poor thing and poor little lamb. Glad he is OK now though.

Do we get to see a photograph?

DH just came back from the local shop (no savoy cabbage) with a box of Thornton's toffi-chocs....nice man . It's the little things like this that make me glad I married him!
