Hi ladies,

What a lot of chatting! I will catch up with it all tomorrow. Feeling a bit tired right now after long heavy discussion with DH about properties.

Had to persuade him we need to update the budget or we'll be waiting a long time to move. I can't shake off this feeling of having to be prepared for baby arriving at 7 months. Despite consultant saying there's an 80% of normal term, I can't help concentrating on the remaining 20%

Which gives us about 8 weeks to move!

I think I might have persuaded him...not sure yet.

Anyway - my main point is that I went to yoga this evening and hadn'gt logged in today so wasn't sure if littleoldme was going.

So I spent most of the session assessing who was new, looked around 4.5 months pregnant and had the air of a teacher who may also be an archers fan. I gave out my best 'you may be from mumsnet but i'm not going to ask just in case' smiles.

Kind of like this

They probably thought I was high or something...

Nighty night

RGPargy · 28/06/2007 22:09

Good luck with finding somewhere Choudru!

Have a great sleep, see you tomoz

AnnainNZ · 28/06/2007 22:36

I keep logging on and find about a zillion new posts - you guys are chatty at the mo! I'm at work while it's your evening so I'm just catching up on my break!

No other news though, glad everyone's scans going well, there's a lot of us now.

littleoldme · 28/06/2007 22:46

Choudru - Didn't make Yoga as I've got piles of work to do -- c'os I've been feeling sick again it is all going very slowly. As it happened I spent most of the evening sofa bound feeling queasy.

This was made musch worse by the Dh eating the last cherry bakewell

I'll try again next week.feeling snowed under.

I really hope you manage to get your housing sorted out.

Can't wait to see what a ' you might be from mumsnet but I'm not going to ask just in case' smile looks like. Just make sure the wind doesn't change.

Sleep well one and all

choudru · 29/06/2007 08:27

littleoldme - sorry to hear the nausea has hit you again. If you ask me, that really is the worst aspect of pregnancy.

Worse when you have so much to do.

I'm working next thursday so can't make yoga but will be there the week after.

About properties - DH has definitely come round. So can do some more searching today with new budget in mind.

Nobody has a scan today - booooring!

Couldn't agree with jetgirl more BTW. I had a small frame thing with a hammock made of towelling from my sis. You just lie baby in it while bathing him or her and you don't have to worry about supporting the neck etc. Very reassuring for a new mum.

And about the sleeping bags - DS always threw the covers off but the grobags keep them all snug without risk of bedsheets riding up to cover their little faces.

choudru · 29/06/2007 08:29

P.S. 22 weeks today which officially makes me 5 months pregnant!

Where did the time go?!

Pixiefish · 29/06/2007 08:36

loopy and jertgirl- i don't know what to do about post partum pads- throwaway probably. I use washable san pro and nappies (on the baby) so I spose a few days of disposables can be forgiven.

I have a mooncup as well but don't really get on with it- but then again I'm not mad keen on tampons either

nykate · 29/06/2007 08:52

What is a mooncup?

Pixiefish · 29/06/2007 08:53

alternative to tampons here

nykate · 29/06/2007 09:20

Thanks, Pixie. I've never seen/heard of one before! Seems interesting.

RGPargy · 29/06/2007 10:45

Morning everyone!

How are we all today?

I'm feeling absolutely knackered this morning and have this health assessment with work at 12.20 which means i cant eat anything beforehand or drink anything other than water. I'm STARVING!!!! I'm not going to let them weigh or measure me tho - that would be absolutely pointless! They do measure your bodyfat, but i'm not sure how they're going to do that as i know that being pg deffo majorly interferes with this equipment stuff that they use. I am interested in my lung capacity tho. I think you just blow into a tube or something. They also measure your glucose tolerance (hence the not eating) but i know mine is fine so far because of being checked at the MW etc.

I'm sure my bump is getting smaller! I look in the mirror and dont see a pg lady, i just see someone that looks like she's had too many pies! I thought the bumps were supposed to stick out by now? Maybe it's coz i'm a lard-arse anyway that my bump is buried in my fatness? Oh well, spose i'll show at some point during this pg lol.

It's amazing what a lack of food does to you mental state! I've not had my normal coffee on the train this morning and no breakie either and i'm feeling soooo miserable!!

Anyway, ramble over. Speak soon ladies!

choudru · 29/06/2007 11:26

Well the property wasn't much cop. Got another viewing at 4pm so we live in hope.

Pixie - thanks for the link. Must admit I had never heard of mooncups before but it looks amazing. Will definitely be trying it after baby arrives.

Why haven't I heard about it sooner?!

RG - good luck with the assessment. I know you're not supposed to use those scales that measure bodyfat while you're pregnant so maybe they use other methods?

geekInPigtails · 29/06/2007 11:41

RGPargy, it sounds like there's a tendency to be paranoid about the size of your bump, whatever size it is! You're worried yours is too small, I'm worried mine is too big! Can't BELIEVE some of you are only just making it into maternity jeans - I've been in them for a month at least (and I'm bored of them already, might need to get some more so I can vary things a bit)! I also managed to put on the same amount of weight over the 2 weeks we were on holiday as I did over my whole pregnancy up to that point! (I didn't really start putting on weight until about 14 weeks though)

I'm quite short (like 5'0" in my socks), so when I saw the midwife yesterday she pointed out that the baby has less vertical space in my torso than average, which I suppose may explain things having to stick out more. Makes me worried I'm going to look just ridiculously huge by the end though! She said that when I mentioned that I'd had a couple of days of feeling unusually breathless, around the time of the scan which showed the baby was sat breach with its head up against my ribs. It's eased a bit since then, so I think it must have been related to the baby's position - but I'm amazed the baby is already big enough to be pressing up against my lungs! And again, worrying that that's started so early - is there still going to be space for ME inside by the end of this pregnancy?!?!

Sorry, ranting slightly, and I know pregnancy is an amazing thing and my body knows what it's doing really, but it's just a bit scary that I don't, if you see what I mean?

Anyway, re pads and nappies and such... I do use disposable sanitary pads, but recently I found some in Waitrose that are made from organic cotton (and some vegetable starches I think), which mean they biodegrade much better than normal ones. And they're just as efficient and comfortable. Can't remember what they're called now though. So I was thinking of using the biggest size of those (and lots of them presumably!) as maternity pads. And I think we're going to get both disposable nappies and reusables initially - again, I think I've seen some disposables that aren't as plasticky as normal, and I think for at least the first few days I'd rather go with the simplest option possible! After that I definitely want to try reusables, though DH remains to be convinced

jetgirl and choudru, thanks for the advice about baths. I've seen quite a few posters on other MN threads who say baby baths are a waste of time and money, and you're better just using a sink or washing up bowl. I'm still not sure what to do, but the idea of a soft support in the big bath sounds less scary than potentially banging baby's head on sink taps!

Much respect and love to those of you house hunting/buying/selling at the moment! We bought our first house while planning our wedding, and that was scary enough - can't imagine anything more scary than going through that while pregnant or with a tiny baby!

(sorry for the enormous post, it ran away with me a bit )

RGPargy · 29/06/2007 12:06

lol @ geek. It must be something in the air for rantings and ramblings today, eh?!!

I'm counting down the minutes to when i stuff my face with something really unhealthy, mowahahahahaaaaaaa!!!!

Pixiefish · 29/06/2007 12:41

there's someone\on MN (can't remmeber who now) who sells Mooncups slightly cheaper. You can also get them from nappy shops.

Regarding the reusable nappies- flame has a small business ad on MN and sells nappies. I have the nappies left over from my dd do I shan't be buying any more well i will buy some but our council give you £70 towards nappies so I shall use that I think.

RGPargy · 29/06/2007 12:51

Well i'm back from my health assessment. It's not all bad i dont think. My glucose levels were fine (4.5) but my cholesteral was 5.58 as opposed to 5.2 or under. Not hideous, but i'm sure i could lower it without much effort. Oh and I've apparently got the lungs of a 51 year old I didn't think that was too bad considering i'm 39 anyway!! The younger girls here were told they had lungs of a 44 year old and they are early 20s!!! Think my lungs aren't too bad, considering i gave up smoking 3 1/2 years ago too. Cant say i favoured the woman's bedside manner tho. She was very miserable. Also, she didn't have a large cuff so was unable to do my Blood pressure because the cuff wouldn't fit my arm. Why on earth dont these people who are doing "health assessments" think that maybe a big person might turn up and they might just need a large cuff???

Right, i'm off to get waxed and then another lovely Prett sarnie!

Back laterz!

choudru · 29/06/2007 14:03

How annoying RG. A smile really doesn't cost anything.

Don't let misery-guts spoil your day.

You can have one of my 'you may be from mumsnet but I'm not asking just in case' smiles -->

It comes with dimples

Well done on having given up smoking by the way. What made you finally do it?

I remember trying to convince DH to give up before we got married. It wasn't until he had decided for himself that he wanted to give up that he succeeded.

purplepants · 29/06/2007 14:43

hi all just got 5 mins whilst his nibs is napping....

RGPargy - glad you're assessment went ok but at the lack of the right sized cuff?!!!

mooncups - one word.....fab!! I've been using one for about a year and am just about to buy DD one. They're soooooooo much easier (and cheaper in the long run) than tampons/towels.

Geekinpigtails - I really would buy a pack of proper maternity pads - even nighttime towels aren't up to the job (well, they weren't for me for the first few days anyway)

baths - we got a blow up one (from mothercare I think) - v cheap & nice & soft/easy to store). It will be transferred to the garden for waterplay after this one's finished with it.

nappies - DS is in reuseables and they're no more difficult than disposables (apart from an extra couple of washes per week) and no vile nappysack smells (my pet hate) either

hope you're all keeping well - my sleep's starting to get disturbed which is a pain - waking hourly from 4!!! and I'm getting mighty round (been in mat bottoms for well over a month!)

RGPargy · 29/06/2007 15:04

Thanx for the grin Choudru!! See?? I wear it with pride, dimples n'all!

I'm just glad i haven't taken the assessment too seriously because i know that once i've had the baby, i am going to be getting back into my health and fitness BIG time! 8)

As for giving up smoking, I'd wanted to do it for ages and ages and had given up for seven years () and then started again so i knew i could do it. It was simply the fact that i could almost feel it killing me slowly. Walking up the stairs was a killer, a nasty rattly cough first thing in the morning and last thing at night was really horrible and generally just feeling really really rubbish from it all the time.

I tried patches and failed miserably with them on. I still smoked while wearing them so pointless really! I tried inhalators too but to no avail. In the end i just decided on the date i would give up (5th Jan 2004) and psyched myself up to it. Then i just went plain old cold turkey. 30 a day to 0 in one foul swoop! The first day i went through five packets of Wrigley's Extra gum, the second day i got through 1 pack and the third day i got through 1/2 pack. I know that every ex-smoker says it, but truly, if I can do it, anyone can.

polishes halo

RGPargy · 29/06/2007 15:05

Mooncups. I'm still undecided on them. Cant help but think of them as being very icky.

Nappies. Sorry, but i'm going to be using disposables! I recycle everything i can so that's my conscience clean as far as i'm concerned.

geekInPigtails · 29/06/2007 16:03

purplepants - interesting comment about the maternity pads, I'll bear that in mind. Which reusable nappies do you use? There seem to be so many different sorts out there, I haven't quite got my head around them yet!

purplepants · 29/06/2007 16:11

geekinpigtails - nappy choosing is a nightmare isn't it. I tried loads and didn't like the terry ones so went for fluffles (microfibre) and wambamboos (bamboo). I think someone mentioned earlier about local councils doing 'try before you buy' packs, many also do money back if you send them your receipt for reuseables (I think it's £15 if you spend over a certain amount). Sadly we didn't find out about it until it was too late.

OP posts:
purplepants · 29/06/2007 16:13

also.. the nappylady.com is a brilliant website for finding a nappy to suit your needs (ie if you plan to line dry or tumble)

OP posts:
RGPargy · 29/06/2007 16:34

Are you saying there's more than just a terry towelling nappy out there now?

geekInPigtails · 29/06/2007 16:42

purplepants, did you mean www.thenappylady.co.uk?

RG, get with the programme! Quote from that site "...modern cotton reusable nappies are nothing like the terries our mothers used. They are often shaped like disposables and fasten with velcro, poppers or nifty little grips. There are so many different brands as well."
