Agnes - if it was just pins and needles and trouble gripping things with your hands, I'd say it sounds like carpel-tunnel syndrome. Not sure though if it seems to be effecting your legs too. Definitely worth mentioning to your mw or gp in case it's not. Carpel tunnel usually clears up after pregnancy (I think), but you might need wrist supports in the meantime. HTH.

Morning all. Hope everyone is feeling happier today and less hormonal.

Anyone else getting really fed up with people that don't normally phone them for months, calling every few days or it just me? And why do they always phone on an evening, when I am trying to spend some time with dh b4 lo arrives?! I don't see or speak to anyone (other than you lot) most days, then the phone doesn't stop once dh gets home! aaargh!

sorry - must think calm thoughts!

twoplusone · 03/07/2007 08:38

Agnes- I would contact someone.. Could it be carpal tunnel syndrome.. ( not sure on the symptoms of this) But I wouldnt just put it down to pg myself.. (though not qualified to say that !!!) Get it checked hun..

All I can think about is having this baby, it is driving me mad..I am trying to potter round the house doing jobs.. maybe some that I shouldnt be doing.. in the hope that it will help kickstart things..

I know I should put it tot he back of my head and things will happen when they happen.. but I cant.. I am sure I am not the only one!!!

dewmeadow · 03/07/2007 08:43

ALso in big massive baby club and only 37 weeks- last week estimated at 8lb!!!!!!!!!!! And last babe was huge and had to have section BUT, I think this was more due to the way he was lying as he was posterior. Im still so up for a natural birth - everytime I feel him (or her) wriggling down into my pelvis I want to stand up and oush him out. COME ON BABY!!

WAs looking up how to bring baby on naturally and found a link on to mumsnet, where someone said that raspberry leaf tablets can give you loads of tightenings at this stage. NO mention of chestnut oil anywhere so must be a wives' tale.

twoplusone · 03/07/2007 08:56

Dewmeadow- the girls from the feb 06 postnantal are looking for you hun.x.

I have been taking raberry leaf tea since 34weeks. Iam taking 4 a day att hemo.

Had some fresh pineapple (about 1/2 a pineapple) lastnight.

Baby still moving loads, slower movements but seems to be flipping from side to side.. looks really freaky as his bum goes across.. but I do like it.. Oh and it hurts..

twoplusone · 03/07/2007 09:01

Natural induction to labour tips.. see this thread.. Remember though things work when they are ready too but thought I would post it anyway..

twoplusone · 03/07/2007 09:05

Apparantly for the fresh pineapple to maybe have an effect you need to eat about 7!! So my half last night isnt going to do much is it...lol

MelissaM · 03/07/2007 09:14

I'm guessing a carton of pineapple juice wouldn't work then? I have some in the fridge and was thinking of trying that.

Groveregg · 03/07/2007 09:25

Twoplusone you sound like you are desperate to get going now!!! Just hold on, Lee will come when he's ready... just getting frustrating now though isn't it?!

Agnes I had bad pins and needles in my arms and hands last time round, trouble gripping things and spasms in my hands. I was told it was carpal tunnel syndrome but actually it carried on after I'd given birth. You are a fellow knitter aren't you? In the end I worked out that the problem was me manically knitting for hours on end for the LO with metal needles. I switched to bamboo needles and only do an hour or two's knitting a day now and things got better.

Of course that doesn't explain the legs too unless you can knit with your toes as well...

JAM I remember taking evening primrose oil in the last few weeks last time round as I'd read that it can help ripen your cervix. Not sure if it improved my mood and I can't remember the dosage now - I'd completely forgotten it until you said about it.

Hi Everyone who is still waiting for their moment to come...... I felt so uncomfortable last night that I was seriously thinking of going to hospital . All I could think was DS (11) would be so disappointed as he and DP have gone to Wimbledon today! I felt totally sick and tight crampy tummy and just like labour as I remember it. More worrying because I have a cervical stitch in place. Clearly I am a total drama queen as I eventually fell asleep and woke up at 7.30 this morning feeling just fine. With hindsight it was probably the whole bag of Waitrose soft dried apricots that I ate not long before bed, washed down by about a pint of fresh pulpy orange juice (to accompany my iron tablet). Am trying to be in optimum condition for my scheduled c-section in less than a fortnight.... perhaps I am being a little too vigilant!

Everso quick post - Hiya Kyte! Hope you're well.... just saw your post about full moon babies - my DD was born on a full moon - when me and DP saw it we thought it must be a good omen, and low and behold, 6 hours later, there she was! Well, I've missed this full moon, but really hope I haven't got another 28 days to go!

Hello everyone else, hope everyone is coping with lumbering around - have we actually had any July babies yet, or have they all been June so far?!

Sudden panic that I'm not keen on any of the names we have chosen... might need to go back to the drawing board....

agnesnitt · 03/07/2007 13:48

Thanks for the advice everyone...

Groveregg, I am a knitter but I haven't touched my needles since the pain started. I haven't even managed to hold a knife and fork properly since the end of last week, spoons all the way

I'm about to go call ADU, as I suspect that if I call the local midwives they'll just put me through to L&D as usual and those guys have enough on their hands without talking to bemused non labouring women.

Hope Tuesday is treating everyone well. Take care.

Agnes

Frogs have bogged off so I'm back to slaying my own slugs.

My poor plants.

MelissaM · 03/07/2007 16:20

JAM, Good in theory, but DH won't answer the phone. He keeps telling me to leave it to the answer-phone and call people back in the daytime ( I think he probably has a point).

Caroline, sounds like too many dried apricots to me!

Bodkin & Kyte, we're having second thoughts on names too (particularly for a boy). I am trying not to worry about it though, but DH is stressing a bit.

I had my best nights sleep in months last night . I didn't wake up at all until 5.30 so felt great this morning. But I have just been out for lunch with my MIL and a wander round the shop (we've been out 4 hrs) and now I am shattered again. Think I will go for a snooze b4 DH gets home.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Cyee · 03/07/2007 17:14

Sorry to hear about your pins and needles Agnesnitt. I've had a mild bit of that, nothing as bad as you describe though. Hope you managed to get sorted out.

Also empathise on the names front. We know what we're having but our dilemma is that we had discounted the name we always liked because DH's cousin named his daughter this. But now we're getting close to DDay we're torn. We never see them and it genuinely is one of our fave names (pre his cousin's DD being born/named). Hmm... She might come with a different name attached anyway I guess.

Had a really busy day today and feel knacked. Saw a couple of nurseries, bought some sheets, was palpated by midwife who said head's all the way down now and that I should bounce incessantly on my ball, now it's almost time for fish pie. I was a bit annoyed that my midwife's opening gambit was 'I guess we better get you booked in for an induction'! I'm only 39+2. I mean I know they need to be organised but it does put the pressure on!

I still feel fine (and know how lucky I am that this is the case), but I am ready now. So have been telling my body this... it isn't listening as yet!

Take care all. Welcome to new people and welcome back to some we haven't seen for a while

MelissaM · 03/07/2007 17:24

Hello Cyee. Don't be pressured into an induction if you don't want one (you're not even late yet). They don't induce you here until 42 wks and you can ask to be left until 43 weeks (although you have to go to the hospital for daily checks that the baby is ok and the placenta is still working). Re names, if you like the name you had already chosen, go for it, even if your cousin has used it too. Could you possibly spell it differently so that it isn't exactly the same? Thinking about my family, half the cousins (and their dc's) have the same names as there are so many of them (Irish family). We were in two minds about the boys name we've chosen as our friends have used it for their son who was born in March. But it's the only one we can come up with that we both like, so if we have a boy we're just going to spell it the traditional (not the usual) way.

dewmeadow · 03/07/2007 17:37

2plus - thanks!! I dropped in this morning. YOu sound just like me - eager for the birth, adn enjoying watching its bum rippling from side to side. Its freaky but I love it!

Jennster - thrushes eat slugs if you can attract them to your garden. Have you tried the beer or eggshell natural rememdies?

Piles of cramps thsi evenign and feeling VERY periody, so WATCH IT!!!!!!!

[only joking girlies)

typhoonsmum · 03/07/2007 17:51

Feel so much better.

Been to fortnightly MW appt and saw an old friend in the waiting room. She looked about as big as me (Which isn't big for 36 weeks but big enough to be obviously pregnant.) Got talking and she is having twins and is only 14 WEEKS PREGNANT. Sheisn't due till New Years Eve! I mustn't complain as she will be huge and VERY UNCOMFORTABLE by the time she is our stage. She is getting a c Section at 36 weeks tho. Wasn't one of us having twins. I forget who it was.

Had a student Midwife doing the appointment. She was really good. (Recognised me from her Gynae placement - I might get my private hospital room yet as a staff perk) The trained midwife was rubbish tho. She tested my wee and said it was clear. I know it wasn't as I tested the same sample b4 I left the house and it STILL has glucose in it. Wasn't a lot but is has been there for 4 weeks now. GTT was clear so I'm not concerned.

Head still NOT ENGAGED. I know it can happen later with second pregnancies but I'd just like a sign that this baby DOES know what is meant to happen and is getting ready!

Dumbledorf · 03/07/2007 18:35

Hi everyone,
Glad other people have been having full moon BH's too!! I had about an hour and a half on sat and sun morning of periody type pains followed by BIG BH, but it went again on both days. I'm 38 + 2 but really don't feel like it will be long, can feel the baby's head so low down, feels like it could just come through!!
Was knackered yesterday, but loads of energy today and have been doing crazy lady cleaning, so am hoping things are on the move!! probably shouldn't be so impatient, but I am!

bilblio · 03/07/2007 18:51

Hi all, sorry too tired to try responding to everyone individually.

Glad we're not the only ones struggling with names. We finally decided on girls name a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately we're still struggling with a boys name. I've had the same name stuck in my head all the time, I love it, but DP hates it. I do keep looking for another name unlike him. He might just end up admitting defeat, which means I get my choice, but then I'd feel rotten knowing he doesn't like the name. Neither option is good.

Saw the midwife (and student) today, apparently LO has gone back to being free instead of 2/5ths engaged. Apparently that happens though and is nothing to worry about. I've been having bad period like pains and backache since last night so she said it sounds like the LO is trying to get engaged again, and she suspects the baby will be here sooner rather than later. (I think) She's even double booked my next appointment with someone as she's sure one of us will have given birth in the next fortnight.

Last night at our last antenatal class one of the things we talked about was being induced and what they do. The Student MW was there so she remembered today that I really really don't want inducing. They induce you here when your 12 day late, which would be my 30th birthday.
A baby would be a lovely birthday present, but I'd rather have an early birthday present and a pain free birthday please.

Cyee · 03/07/2007 18:55

Thanks MelissaM - also Irish family so glad it's not just me! Although interestingly it's the Scottish contingent that 'stole' this Oirish name! Will look at the spellings... good plan

Thanks also for the induction advice. I did tell the midwife I didn't want to be booked in, so we're leaving it til next week and she knows I don't want it, so has already told me I can 'come to some arrangement' with the consultant!

In the meantime I am bouncing on my birth ball for all I'm worth!

dewmeadow · 03/07/2007 20:08

where do you get a birth ball? Is it the same as an exercise ball?

No agreement on names here - why wont DH agree withme? He's just so unreasonable! DD has said repeatedly taht if the new baby is a girl she'll be Wendy and if he's a boy he'll be Bob!!

Bodkin · 03/07/2007 20:25

at your DDs choice of names Dewmeadow! wonder where she got those from....

Birth ball is the same as an exercise ball - my mum just picked me one up in Argos for about a fiver. Money well spent already - DD has had great fun bouncing on it this afternoon!

Think I'll type out a list of the possible names tonight - I think it helps to see them in print sometimes.
