Firststar- you are right I am always cleaning just wish my house reflected it!!!.. DS makes it his mission, to spill everything on the floor, draw on everything and make as much mess and place his mark on everything possible!!.. The joys of toddlers.. Oh and having a double layered haired dog doesnt help either lol.

Cakehead · 19/06/2007 10:59

Hi everyone, omg it's getting very close now, isn't it? Unless my breech bump turns - and it's showing no signs as yet - I've got my c-sec next Thursday. Can't believe there will then be four of us at home! Gulp.
Hope everyone's not suffering too much. I'm have awful rip aches now; think it's to do with the head being wedged up in the wrong place. Remember the past few weeks of PG1 being a bit uncomfortable, but not quite this bad. Maybe it's just me getting older.
Glad to hear Charlotte's home...

twoplusone · 19/06/2007 11:06

cake head- next thursday.. that is close.. looks like you may well be our next July Baby

Cakehead- next Thursday does indeed seem very close! Have you been trying all the old 'tricks' for turned the baby? Mine turned 2 weeks ago and have to say it's a lot more comfortable now, I really feel for your poor ribs!! I tried swimming (a strange combination of breast-stroke arms & crawl kick legs!) and also going on all fours on the floor and dropping to my elbows & reading like that for half an hour each eve. Not sure if any of it helped but one night after we'd gone to bed I felt this rather uncomfortable wrenching (in fact DP began to think I'd gone into labour!) which went on for a good half an hour and indeed at the next midwife visit the baby had turned. Lucky me! I was going to try moxabustion (sp?) otherwise as I was that keen to try for a VBAC...although now it seems BP might result in having another section afterall! The spinning babies was quite interesting too...

Good luck xxxxxx

Well someone suggested I should, so have just started a July 2007 post natal thread. Looking forward to being joined by you other ladies soon!

DivaSkyChick · 19/06/2007 14:34

Curious to know who here is going to use a doula and or hypnobirthing?

Cyee · 19/06/2007 15:07

Hi Divaskychick - I bought hypnobirthing CDs a while back and have been listening kind of regularly. Not sure they have actually hypnotised me, but they've definitely been relaxing. I get the impression the CDs only scratch the surface compared to the courses you can go on. Hey ho, everything helps in my view! I think the main benefits are reminding you that the process is natural and that tensing up can make things harder. Is it something you've been doing?

Cakehead · 19/06/2007 15:43

Yes, Madmumnika, have been doing lots of swimming, lots of crawling about on all fours, and actually found an acupuncturist to do the moxi-thingy. But then because I was past 38 weeks, he said he'd rather not take my money, as it's unlikely to work after that. I've been feeling a few strange tugs and wrenches, but nothing as strong as what you describe. And the head is still firmly placed under my ribs. But I have heard of babies turning on their way into the theatre, so I guess you can't give up hope. Glad yours made the move, tho...

madmumNika · 19/06/2007 15:57

Cakehead, I had also read that sometimes chiropractors or osteopaths can help manipulate the pelvis to 'open' it up in case there are any tight ligaments etc. preventing your little one from turning- may be worth a last minute shot? (plus the massage is usually nice, and they are gentle on pregnant ladies!). It's so frustrating knowing he/she might move- like you said it really can be last minute. But at least your c-section should be well planned and hopefully the recovery will be quick enough... It all still seems miles away to me, but am thinking I should re-pack my hospital bag...just in case! xx

madmumNika · 19/06/2007 16:00

Divaskychick- I haven't looked into using a doula due to all the potential complications for me which might well mean another c-section....And ditto for hypnobirthing. Ironically I do really want a VBAC so maybe should look into it, but birth doesn't scare me... My Mum had very positive birth experiences with my sister & I so I hope I follow suit. I am taking the raspberry leaf tablets though and have my arnica ready!!

pulapula · 19/06/2007 16:05

I am very impressed with all the ironing and nesting that has been going on. I seem to be the only one who just "doesn't do ironing". DH does his own work shirts but that's the only ironing action in this household.

As for nesting, DH spent all of Saturday and Sunday morning cleaning the house from top to bottom, with me helping with a few easy tasks (kitchen surfaces, tidying). It is now my job to keep on top of things, and I must say it is lovely to have a clean and tidy home.

I realise I am very lucky to have my DH. He is also taking 6 weeks off work (2 weeks paternity and 4 weeks annual leave) which will be a great help when LO comes. He has been working in London (we live in Sheffield) for 3 days a week (staying overnight too) but is switching jobs when he goes back so that he will be Sheffield-based again.

Well, its now 7 days til my section (next Tuesday!) People keep saying how small my bump is but I don't care as I was "compact" with DD and she was 8lb 12.5oz, so I'm sure he will be a good enough weight.

I did however put on 4 stones with DD (from 9 to 13 st) and have "only" put on 2 stones this time (from 10.6 to 12.6) so I am hoping my weight won't exceed 13 stones again as I found it hard to shift it. I even tried to get some maternity trousers on the other day and couldn't get them over my thighs (even with the waistband at full stretch!), so I'm not sure what clothes I'll be wearing for the next few months...oh well...

Hi Cyee, Yes, I've hired a doula and also am taking hypnobirthing classes with my husband. I already feel sooo much better about everything and perhaps coincidentally, a lot of my back pain has gone away. Not that I'm suddenly feeling like my old self but it's great to not be in agony anymore. I do feel that all the fear and tension I was feeling with regard to giving birth was affecting me. So if I get nothing else out of it than a relaxed, happy last six weeks, I'll take it!

MadmumNika, for the reasons above, I'd still say either / or could be valuable for you. Just having a doula with you in hospital, geez especially if you try to VBAC first, would be so helpful.

I'm glad you're relaxed about the hospital experience. From what I'm learning, relaxation is really key to having a better experience regardless of how it goes. With a planned C, you should be able to have music and a really lovely, exciting birth!

Ironing??? I don't even own an ironing board

I have been packing my hospital bag and asking for advice on what to put in (you'd think I would know by now, wouldn't you - it's amazing what you forget!) - here for anyone who wants any hints etc!

dewmeadow · 19/06/2007 20:56

HOspital bag??? Everyones so organised - everytime I coem on here I panic and want to go to teh chemist immediately to buy loads of pads!!

This week Im definitely doing it!!

There's only one doula in N Ireland (I think) and we're so backward I dont know that shes that busy! I definitely need my DH in to hold my hand.

dewmeadow · 19/06/2007 21:02

Not finished cos DH being a pain!

Im also really uncomfortable, and humungous, and fed up and narky. Also have a bad cold with a horrifically sore throat which I can only take paracetamol for!!

Does arnica help with bruising in the girly area?

Im massaging everyday now!!

Beyonceen · 19/06/2007 21:04

Oh yeah. Hospital bag. Better get round to it.
twoplusone - are you in Bad Lippespringe? you just reminded me of lovely summer days there at the ice cream parlour (our last posting)
Enough of all this cleaning malarky. Save your energy for the sleepless nights, that's what i say.
Apparently breech babies can turn while you're still in labour.(especially with subsequent babes)
Anyway, can i moan? Been told today that I'm placenta praevia. Will prob need c section and am missing our much longed for family holiday. Bum.

bilblio · 19/06/2007 21:04

Kyte - hope you get some decent sleep soon, my loo visits are getting more frequent too, but I'm just staying in bed longer to make up for the lack of sleep.

JAM - You aren't alone in not noticing if things need doing, my DP is the same. I put things on the stairs that need to be taken up or down, he walks over them. Eventually I'll ask him to carry them for me and he'll ask where they are! Although he did notice that I'd hoovered his studio today. I managed to sneak in while he was at the shops, it's at least 3 months since it was last cleaned!

I've been ironing this evening too, it passes the time while watching TV. I find it impossible to just sit watching TV, usually I do a craft at the same time, but tonight the ironing won. My ironing perch makes me sit up straight too, much comfier than slouching on the settee.
If there's nothing on TV the washing is either chucked in the dryer, or we just wear them creased

Had an antenatal appointment at the doctors today, everything is fine and apparently LO is 3/5ths engaged. On Thursday I've got my scan to see if the placenta has moved, but I'm hoping that if the baby is so far engaged the placenta can't be causing any problems. Does that sound logical to anyone else?

Got another appointment in 2 weeks time, but as the midwife pointed out, if I do need a c-section they'll be doing it in 2 weeks anyway! 2 weeks seems so much less than 4 weeks.

Beyonceen · 19/06/2007 21:05

dewmeadow, arnica tablets (homeopathic) def helped with my forst. Hardly any swelling, nasty bruises etc.

Beyonceen · 19/06/2007 21:06

biblio, can the placenta move? i am fretting today.

weddingcake · 19/06/2007 21:50

Hi girls,

Haven't had a chance to catch up with how you're all doing as have been away from my computer since last Thurs when baby Jamie decided to arrive 5 weeks early (5lbs 13) and with no apparent link to my pre eclampsia, he obviously just got bored with waiting!

Has been a terrible few days with him taking 2 steps forward and one step back but finally today they let us home so am sat here typing one handed as it's so lovely to be able to cuddle him when I want and not when some vicious medic 'permits' me...have had many run ins with these types over past few days.

Will post proper story at some stage even though it makes me sound so stupid that the whole day the poo I thought was giving me terribly painful constipation was actually this gorgeous little thing sat on my lap right now!

Big hugs to all...hope you'll still let me join in the july postings even though I have a June baby as I need to know how you're all doing.

Take Care xx

weddingcake · 19/06/2007 21:53

Jamantha....just skimmed down and found your news...congratulations!!!!! will come and play with you on the post natal thread tomorrow...off to feed now x

JennsterFrogLover · 19/06/2007 21:59

Beyonceen 6C or 30C for the Arnica?

Cakehead - I've heard that playing music between your legs makes lo curious and turn to the music I don't suppose there is any harm in trying!
