There's photos here of all the stuff! www.parentclub.scot/baby-box

somethingfromnothing · 12/08/2018 17:53

I’m so excited about getting my baby box! My friend has just got hers and there is loads in it!

Yakadee · 12/08/2018 18:27

@MakeLemonade - thank you! It's in my nose - what's that about! It's the first one I've had in ages and it's so sore 😩 xx

MakeLemonade · 12/08/2018 19:04

Aw no, that’s awful @Yakadee. I had one in my nose when my hay fever was bad a month or so ago, I could have (and may have!) cried.

Alicejj8x · 12/08/2018 19:11

Ladies I've got my 12 week scan tmo arghhhhhh !

I am going to have the blood test taken for the screening of down syndrome
It says a blood test does anyone know if this happens whilst I'm having my scan or if I then have to go somewhere separate for this?

Lookingforadvice123 · 12/08/2018 19:30

Good luck Alicej8x! Mine is Tuesday, I'm nervous already eek. Even though I had a scan less than 2 weeks ago at 10+3 😏

They'll most likely do the bloods after/before your scan. It has to be on the same day for the screening to be accurate, apparently.

lanalawr · 12/08/2018 19:44

Wow! I knew that Scotland had introduced the baby box but didn't realise how much was in it! That's amazing! I love that it's got a wrap and play mat and things too. I wish other places would introduce them (even though this isn't my first, some bits would be useful). Possibly not very popular but they could even do a pared down version for second, third, etc babies to save money.

I was worried about wrapping dd in case I did it wrong but liked my close caboo (like a pre-tied wrap) around the house. I'm wondering about wrapping this time but don't know if I'd be any good with my woven wrap for a newborn. Could use the caboo again to begin with though. It's useful to be hands free sometimes.

Baby160P · 12/08/2018 19:47

When you say wrap do you mean swaddling?

Alicejj8x · 12/08/2018 19:49

@Lookingforadvice123
Good luck for you scan Tuesday hun I am sure everything is perfect.
I was the same I had a scan 2 weeks ago at 11 weeks but the panic sets in doesn't it. So I brought a Doppler and found babies heart beat a few times now so I feel slightly better tbh it defo takes away the worry when you find it

Ahh ok cool thank you :)

DragonFlew · 12/08/2018 20:11

@Baby160P the wrap is like a baby carrier for newborns. I cannot recommend them enough! They are wonderful and so useful and the benefits for baby and for you are immense.
I used a Moby wrap last time but this time I think I will get an ergo baby wrap. Look on YouTube at videos on how to use them - they can be a bit tricky at first!

Baby160P · 12/08/2018 20:17

Oh my friend had one. Now I know! Thank you.

Yakadee · 12/08/2018 20:32

@MakeLemonade - I've never had one in my nose before / it's rubbish! Lol x

twiglet · 12/08/2018 20:38

I'm looking forward to the baby box too there was a BBC article about doing them across England but loads of people shot it down.

We went to see prams whilst in town (rarely go and it's an hour away so took the opportunity) did not realise it was such a minefield!
We are limited to the off road type ones due to country living but even cutting it down to a third was crazy! There was also a pram for £1100......ShockConfused is it just me that finds that nuts?!

Since2016 · 12/08/2018 20:41

deffo slinging from day . With this one. I was so hesitant with DD but had a Bjorn (hated it) and then a connecta at 10 months. I carried her daily until I was 7 weeks pregnant! She was 2.5. This time I’ll get a soft sling and then another connecta (now integra) I cant believe I managed for so long without one at the beginning!

What do people recommend for newborns who are likely to be ahem large?

Alicejj8x · 12/08/2018 20:42

@twiglet was that a bugaboo one?

twiglet · 12/08/2018 20:50

It was a silver cross the buggabo one was £750 bargain......

Plus side about doing it early is we can narrow it down and keep an eye on offers/sales! I was horrified though and it's so boggling!

DragonFlew · 12/08/2018 21:08

@since2016 large newborns can still go in a wrap. You can also get newborn inserts for buckle carriers if that's what you prefer. I've had so many slings over the years but for my now 3.5 year old I have a Tula. They come in baby (standard) or Toddler sized. Can be used front or back and have an optional newborn insert. And then come in so many gorgeous prints!
I'm a bit of a sling geek! It's likely your local children's centre or NCT group hold a sling library where you can go and test them out, even whilst pregnant to see how to use them and what you like, they're so helpful so try before you buy. You can also hire them for a small fee to see what you think!

welshweasel · 12/08/2018 21:15

Ah I loved my slings. Had a stretchy wrap to start with - I used to tie it in the morning then leave it on all day and pop babe in and out as needed - I barely ever used a pram as found them cumbersome. Moved onto a beco soleil after that. Need to get a new stretchy for this one as no idea what happened to mine.

Deffo look on Facebook/gumtree for prams if you don’t mind secondhand. Many people get a travel system and only use it for 6 months to a year before getting a lightweight stroller so they’re usually in amazing condition and a quarter to a third of the price new. We sold our travel system (icandy all terrain - deffo recommend for off road) after a year in near perfect condition for £300. Need to decide what we want this time!

welshweasel · 12/08/2018 21:16

Oh can someone tell me who to PM to join the Facebook group please?

Since2016 · 12/08/2018 21:20

Thanks @dragonflew may do the sling library again thanks for the reminder!! I didn’t like the Tula - tried it there actually, that’s how I ended up with a connecta! Good shout to go while pregnant too I suspect I will default to sling rather than pram!

Speaking of. We have a silver cross pioneer. It’s v heavy but lovely and a dream to push. But we swapped to a buggy at around a year. But was using a sling predominantly from 10 months. Will use the pram again for this one but wouldn’t buy another one - glad we stuck it in the loft!

Since2016 · 12/08/2018 21:22

Sadly my toddler connecta has died - the strap tore. Not surprising given how heavy the use was but I felt v bereft!! But now get to have a new one!!! It’s probably one of the only things we need to buy for #2 new vests etc aside!

Alicejj8x · 12/08/2018 21:41

Wow usually bugaboos are £££ mega aren't they. Love the silver cross ones and also mother care own brand are lovely

Think we're going to go for the Venicci

craftymum01 · 12/08/2018 21:44

I have a cabbo that I used for a few months with DS. I think I will use it much more with this baby so that I can still have DS in a buggy. Defo don't want to fork out for a double buggy/pram and DS is a bit of a liability. Has to be on reigns when walking as he just wanders off. Might be easier to strap him in and carry new baby rather than let him walk next to buggy.

craftymum01 · 12/08/2018 21:45

*caboo sorry

Alicejj8x · 12/08/2018 21:45
