I’ve put some stuff into bags ready for hospital. Turns out I need to pick up quite a bit of stuff, so glad I started early. I’m starting to feel really nervous about it all now though. Just want a nice straightforward birth and be home in time for my tea really 😂 surely that’s not too much to ask. Oh, and no stitches. I hate the thought of staying in hospital without DP

unicornchaser · 10/08/2018 19:34

Not too much at all @Yerp, I am hoping to go into labour out-with rush hour traffic since it only takes 7 minutes door to door. Oh and not in line with visiting hour so dh can get the car parked.

Then sneeze it out and be home to sleep in my own bed and not be on a noisy ward.

Again, not much to ask for!

Havetothink · 10/08/2018 19:51

If it's not back to back, is quicker than last time and doesn't rip me in two I'll be happy, would even put up with a couple of stitches (trust me you won't care by the time they're doing them). Oh and maybe just a day or two in hospital instead of 5 days this time.

Can't decide if actually sneezing it out would be a good thing. Someone at my work had their second baby in 17 minutes start to finish, might be a bit of a shock if that happened 😱

Penguina · 10/08/2018 20:38

Wow I can’t believe some of you have picked bags for hospital! I’ve done nothing at all. Except buy and make some clothes for him. But I guess as I know the date he’s coming I don’t really need need to worry!?

I had my 28 week appointment the other day and she didn’t dip my wee or do blood pressure!? How bad is that!? I didn’t really realise as I was in such a flap with two children with me!

When they listened to his heart beat though, toddler shouted ‘NOOO BABY’

Ah fudge!

twobambinos · 10/08/2018 20:48

@penguina that's bad isn't it surely they should be checking the basics at every appointment.
I'm 33 weeks now so even though I have it in my mind the baby will be overdue its no harm to get ready. My energy levels are not great at the moment and I feel happier knowing I don't have a long list to do. I know someone else could do it worst case scenario.

Oh I hope this one is a quick painless birth during school hours so I don't have to worry about rushing my two dds off somewhere else. Not asking for much.

Havetothink · 10/08/2018 22:17

penguina what did she do, just the heart beat? They're supposed to do bloods around 28 weeks too?

NameChangedNow · 10/08/2018 22:58

Can I join? Due a girl on 12th Oct. Smile

Yerp · 11/08/2018 09:55

penguina I had my bloods done at 28 weeks too and urine and bp. They measured fundal height too and did heartbeat Doppler. How long is it til your next appointment?

Hello namechangednow I’m having a girl too Smile

FutureMum · 11/08/2018 18:33

Hello! Checking back into the group. 31 weeks pregnant with a boy, eight year gap with my girl. Baby due 10 Oct. I am an older mum, tired, backache, massive bump and hugely excited! 💗

twobambinos · 11/08/2018 18:35

Welcome @namechangenow.

@penguina I had my bloods redone too so a bit low on iron. I suppose they can do them at your next appointment.

I woke up worn out this morning after an attack of the heartburn and vomiting. No more chocolate for this baby. Ill be looking forward to my bed tonight

justtowarm · 11/08/2018 18:56

Hello all, I have finished work now yippee! (Well I had saved up 6 weeks of annual leave) So glad my pelvis pain and reflux is keeping me up most night and I was so tired not sure my clinical decision making was up to it anymore (work were actually really good and had put me on really reduced duties but the consultant was talking about signing my off work at our appointment next week so I thought I'd just stop.

I'm supposed to be taking it a bit easy as i have high pressure in the cord and had preeclampsia last time, so today I have napped a lot :D my partner has had to take up the childcare 😂.

They should have done your bloods I think @Penguina. I had mine done at 28 weeks and it showed low iron so they are redoing them again at 34 weeks. Might be worth phoning and asking? Maybe the midwife was flustered with your little ones there (although that's still really bad of her). I know the times I've had to take my 2 1/2 year old it's been significantly more rushed. Hopefully your next appointment they will do extra :)

Havetothink · 11/08/2018 20:13

Congrats justtowarm it's a relief not to have work as an added pressure.

penguina the bloods are important to show changes and give them time to treat problems before they get worse, don't wait for the next appointment of they didn't do it. I'm repeating mine next week as they were 'borderline' at 28 weeks.

DogMumOfOne · 12/08/2018 14:48

Hi all. I was on the bus previously and dipped out for a bit.
Due 3rd October with a surprise!
I have started to pack hospital bag and bag for baby, but lots of little things still to get.
Moving house in next fortnight so its all happening!!
Does anyone else have a dog? Lots of people are asking me "what will the dog think of the baby?" "how will they get on?" "how will you cope with a dog and a baby?" I don't have answers for any of these questions! Does anyone have any tips from their own experience of dog and baby no.1?! Would be so grateful to hear some advice/reassurance. I have a small terrier who is really friendly and has been around small kids plenty but he can be rather on the bouncy side.

unicornchaser · 12/08/2018 16:04

Hiya @DogMumOfOne and welcome back!

I have a 2 year golden retriever so rather a big excitable dog and have been getting the same questions! Some people even thinking we would be getting rid of him 😳 like hell we would!
This is baby no 1 for us too but some tips I have been given are:

Send home a hat/blanket that has been at the hospital with you and the baby for the dog before baby comes home.

When bringing baby in, whoever is the dominant preference with the dog then go to him to fuss/reassure him and have the other person bring baby in

When you are feeding or sitting holding baby, make a fuss of the dog with the other hand at times so he still feels included.

And make sure there is still plenty of 1 to 1 time for the dog too either when OH has baby or baby is asleep

Don't shut the dog away from baby or he will see it as he is being punished for something

Aside from that I think it's just a case of letting the dog come round to the baby in his own time and hopefully they will become best buddies as the baby gets older!

Good luck with it!

Penguina · 12/08/2018 19:57

Oh yes she did do bloods but not bp or urine. I’m not overly fussed now, I don’t think I have any signs of pre eclampsia which is what they would check those for anyway aren’t they?

I’m constantly getting stitch in my bump now. It’s such a pain (literally) . I feel like I’m over doing it but I can’t really do anything to stop it? I have a 2 yr old and a 3 yr old who has to be lifted everywhere. Aah well, only 9 weeks to go !

TinyTerror1 · 13/08/2018 09:32

Penguina it's mostly pre-eclampsia but they also check your urine for sugar in case of gestational diabetes. If you haven't had a previous high sugar reading you're probably ok...

As an aside, my midwives told me to save time at the appointment I can come in with a ready prepared urine sample. This definitely stops it being overlooked! You should be able to ask for a sample tube thing at the dr's reception.

Flamingo19 · 13/08/2018 09:35

At the hospital now having my glucose test as my dads type 1. Absolutely starving, had the initial first sitting, had the sugary drink now I’ve still got an hour and 15 mins wait until they see me again. Can’t wait to eat!

TinyTerror1 · 13/08/2018 09:53

I had my test on a really hot day. I felt awful, so hungry and faint!

Hope you get the all clear Flamingo19. Having GD is a bit crap. Especially when everyone else is talking about eating all of the chocolate and cakes Sad

Flamingo19 · 13/08/2018 10:03

Oh no @TinyTerror1 Sad I am slightly worried as I have got a very sweet tooth. I usually have a bar of chocolate a day! The only thing getting me through is there is a Costa in my hospital so I will treat myself after Grin

TinyTerror1 · 13/08/2018 10:36

I have found a few sweet treats I can get away with. If you do have GD, message me if you like and I will give you a few hints (but I really hope you don't) x

TinyTerror1 · 13/08/2018 10:48

... hope you don't have GD, that is! More than welcome to message me Grin

twobambinos · 13/08/2018 18:35

@flamingo19 hope you got something nice in Costa and that you don't have gd.

@justtowarm congratulations on finishing up one less thing to worry about.

My back was so sore by the end of today I wished I was finished.

@tinyterror1 I don't have gd but those chocolate and cakes make my heartburn worse so I feel a little bit of your pain.

We still can't agree on any names. Anyone else having same?

TinyTerror1 · 14/08/2018 08:37

We're the opposite @twobambinos - we have one name we both like. I'm worried she'll come out and look nothing like it and we'll have to start from scratch!

unicornchaser · 14/08/2018 08:39

Hope the GD test went well @Flamingo19.

How's things now @Filzma?

We have settled on a name but I was ideally wanting to go with a couple 'backups' but can't agree on any others except this one! So looks like that will be his name!
It's so hard though, I have always disliked my name so been fretting on what if he doesn't like his or I decide I don't like it in 5 years Confused

OP posts:
justtowarm · 14/08/2018 10:01

We have a name picked out that we both like, a back up we both like and agree on, and other names we both like. Naming this little girl seems so much easier than when we were trying to pick a name for our son.

I've never really been that keen on my name so was so worried when picking his. I also didn't want him to be name number 2/3/4 in his class. We went for something classic but uncommon. I had a wobble about it when he was about one, but so glad I chose it now.

I think the name you pick suits them whatever as your strongest association to that name changes to mean them.

My little boy is funny he is adamant that the baby will be called the back up name and has even had mini tantrums when we say but it's probably going to be our first choice name.So might have to get a teddy and call it the back up name, they joy of 2 year olds 🙈🙈🙈
