gingermumi - I teach english too, and psychology at A'level, but it's the english I love!

Egg · 25/06/2007 20:33

I guess it is double yolk as I am egg...

Egg · 25/06/2007 20:36

Oooh bubble, I did A-level psychology! I am so sad I even bought our old textbook a few years ago as I wanted to read it again. It is the big white one with a blue face (I think) on the front. Would have a look to see what it is called / who it is by but it is upstairs and it is SUCH hard work climbing stairs...

beansprout · 25/06/2007 20:38

That's not the Atkinson et al book is it? I did if for part one of my degree. My second hand copy always fell open on the page with the photo of the hermaphrodite

samsmam · 25/06/2007 20:41

LOL- at double yolk! Aren't double yolks classed as lucky?

Egg- Twins, you lot wishing it on me with an LO that would be only 16 months!

gingermumi · 25/06/2007 21:11

Now that's just wierd bubblesbabe! I have also taught sociology in the past (not recently) but not psychology (that would be just too strange!). Do you teach lit, lang or lang and lit? I do all of the specs but lit is really my subject (sorry ladies, for talking shop!).

Sorry, also forgot new ladies - welcome and congrats - this is a lovely thread, lots of fun and support

manamana · 25/06/2007 21:25

Hooray Jo, fantastic news. Am shattered and off to bed - waves to all [grin}

Redbush · 25/06/2007 21:50

I can't get over how much gets written on this thread in the space of 24hrs and so much exciting news!! HUGE congratulations to both Jo and Egg - SO pleased for you both . I can't imagine where you would start with twins but I suppose as with so many things when the time comes it all kinds of works out. DH and i had a giggle at your first post with the news! Night everyone sleep well!

gingermumi · 25/06/2007 22:04

night all! What a day!!!

leesmum · 26/06/2007 07:52

hi to all new ladies out there.

Have not had computer on because we've been at hospital since fri with dear father. he's very poorly and wont be comming home. its heartbreaking and he doesnt know im preg cos we wanted to wait till 12 weeks, and now he's that out of it he won't know anyway, not told mum either because its something else for her to be worrying about, have told older sister and my twin sister but she knew anyway(we can't hide anything) and we all had a good cry.

My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer last july and recently had colostomy. everything seemed fine but his heart started racing and they had to shock it a couple of times, basically its his heart that's weak now.

sorry to go on a bit but everyone on here has been great,i'm still feeling sick on and off and (.)(.)'s are huge now and very sore.

everyone keep safe and look after yourselves i dont know when i'll get on again.

egg i'm so happy for you i love my twin so much it hurts and i dont know what i would do without her, you're very lucky.

Egg · 26/06/2007 08:04

Oh leesmum I am so very sorry . Your poor family. It sounds as though you are all very close. My dad was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and fortunately it is very mild, but it has made me realise how precious life is. Sending lots of love your way...

beansprout · 26/06/2007 08:39

Leesmum, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. Look after yourself. We had a bereavement when I was a few weeks preg with ds. I know it can feel odd to not be telling people through such an emotional time. I hope you are ok.

bubblesbabe · 26/06/2007 09:35

Sorry to hear your news Leesmum - at least you being pg is something good for the future.
egg - maybe all this psychology is what is keeping us all positive..
ginger - i teach lang which luckily has some lit thrown in - am looking for a short contemporary british novel for next year - any ideas???

gingermumi · 26/06/2007 09:59

Oh Leesmum, so sad for you. Nothing anyone can say will make you feel better but we are all here if you want to talk, at least you can talk about being pg here. Take care huni.

Bubblesbabe - our lang spec doesn't include any novels so you're lucky! it only covers short texts and original writing. Am glad I teach on the other two specs as well, that way i can do what I really love and discuss books! On subject of texts - do you have a genre in mind? How contemporary do you want? one idea might be 'Curious incident of the dog in the night-time' mark haddon - brilliant for analysing language use on lots of levels.

bubblesbabe · 26/06/2007 10:04

Curious incident might be a good idea - it has worked well on the access course so i might give it a go! Thanks. Off to work now ............. could do with a snooze!

gingermumi · 26/06/2007 10:36

Well, if you've done it before i'd go for it! No point in making extra work when you're knackered anyway!

Jo9977 · 26/06/2007 11:48

Leesmum - I'm so sorry for your news and worry...really thinking of you at this time. Look after yourself.

Morningglory - what a pants situation...I really feel for you. Just hope that you are in the same situation as I was, that something will be seen next week. Try to focus on all the positive comments and stories from others. Apart from that it's just a case of waiting it out...so sorry.

So appreciate all the support and lovely comments from people over the last week - it's a lovely group!!! Thank you!!!!

Oh, and welcome to the newcomers...you'll soon catch up!

morningglory · 26/06/2007 13:29

Oh leesmum, I'm really sorry to hear about your father. To deal with cancer then a weak ticker in one year is really tough. My heart goes out to you and your entire family.

I'd love to get a new GP, but there are only 3 at the surgery, and I was assigned to her (the new one) because everone else was booked up. Last time, she booked me in right away without even confirming the pregnancy, and now she refuses to book me until I can confirm I have a viable pregnancy. As if I'm not worried enough without her adding her doubts as to the chances of this bean sticking. She now has made me paranoid, and scared to go to the loo!

So far so good. No incidents of spotting, and sickness is getting worse. I've been trying to be really healthy, but now the only thing which settles my stomach is McDonalds cheeseburgers. Even DS has more sense than I do, and refuses to eat McDonalds. Also have had a splitting headache for almost a whole day...I never get headaches! I wish the next week will fly by!

beansprout · 26/06/2007 14:49

Ah yes, the "bad" cravings. I'm hankering after all manner of rubbish, which is not great, but, frankly the ends (feeling less sick) justifies the means (eating sh*te).

Am now sporting some rather fetching wristbands which make me look like I quite fancy a spot of aerobics (I don't). I do seem to feel a bit better for wearing them, so am loathe to take them off. It's not a good look though, so am hoping the weather doesn't actually warm up!

Egg · 26/06/2007 15:53

Oh god, every time I walk past McDs I want a cheeseburger. Have so far resisted. I remember having one when I was about 38 weeks pg with DS and it tasted like the best meal I had ever had because i had wanted one for so long.

DS and I have just baked some biscuits, waiting for them to cool down a bit before I eat 7 and he eats 1 .

ThursdayNext · 26/06/2007 17:03

Wow, this is such a big thread already.
Had a previous m/c, and didn't want to join and then have to leave, but have now got to 7+3 and I'm seriously sick so I reckon I can chill out a bit. Well, I could if I wasn't so busy throwing up...
Big congratulations to Jo, it sounds like you've had such a stressful time, here's hoping for a smooth next bit of pregnancy.
And egg, that's so exciting.
Leesmum, how awful for you and your family. Has the hospital been OK? Much sympathy.

Jo - great news!

Egg (or should it be Eggs?) - wow! Congratulations! Enjoy those extra calories - mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!

Leesmum - so sorry to hear about your DF. Look after yourself and keep us posted.

MorningGlory - I hope you have good news very soon (like Jo did). Sorry about your GP. I'm in a small practice too, so I know what you mean about changing.

ThursdayNext - welcome! This group is so friendly, you'll feel at home in no time.

My anti-nausea solution is crisps. I don't even like crisps! BUT, crisps at 9am are just fine if they help stop this horrible feeling!

Egg · 26/06/2007 17:38

Oh yes, crisps work a treat. Esp beef hula hoops...

Welcome Thursdaynext. Sorry about your previous mc, but fingers crossed this will be the one for you, if you are feeling sick it is a great sign (she says, still worrying about herself even with 24-hour nausea).

Beany, I am looking like a fool with my sexy wristbands. I have had some funny looks, especially from the trendy teenagers who wonder what kind of fashion I am following. It's embarrassing, but it's a necessity!

Just spoke to my parents who are on hols, they are very very excited!

ThursdayNext · 26/06/2007 17:46

Prawn cocktail crisps for me, especially skips. They do make for particularly revolting vomit though.
Tried those wristbands, but I felt like an idiot and they didn't seem to stop me being sick. Seem to work for some people though.

ThursdayNext · 26/06/2007 17:47

Egg, do your parents live nearby? Do you think you'll be able to get lots of help with your expanding egglets?
