Beansprout, if it's any consolation you're not the only one! I look obviously pregnant and somemone asked me yesterday when i'm due (i don't think she thought it was soon but i do look obviously 'up the duff'). I know there's the peanut and it's football (the ever increasing fibroid) in there but i do feel rather embarassed.

On testing, we have decided that we will have nuchal plus the blood test. The important thing is really what you will do with the information when you have it. We have decided we just want to know so we can be prepared if there is anything wrong. Obviously being ancient does have higher risks and so if the baby does have downs or similar we want to know what we're up against. We don't want to go for invasive tests beacuse of risk of mc - I think testing is a very personal thing and i know somepeople don't even want scans! I'd have one every week if i could just to see how it's getting along!

leesmum · 20/06/2007 11:58

Morning everyone, how are you all?

Sickness is back with a vengance, and i dug out an old maternity bra yesterday.BLISS.until dp said "ooh matron" (Carry On style). He was pissing himself, although i have to admit it were'nt the sexiest thing i've ever seen myself in, but very comfy...how sad!

Samsmam i too had no sickness on 1st preg so this is new to me, i find eating non stop works

lljkk its entirely up to you to have whatever tests you want. Its a very personal thing, i honestly havent give it that much thought yet, i'm more interested in holding onto this one for time being.

btw we are calling our bump "Chunk" from the goonies.

Slacker · 20/06/2007 13:02

Hi everyone, sorry some of you are feeling so sick. DH reminded me that with DS3 I talked myself into getting sick at 8 weeks, having spent the previous 3 weeks moaning about not having symptoms, so who knows what will happen this time! Still feeling fairly symptomless at 7+3 or whatever it is today....well apart from the tiredness, the constant weeing, and the sore nipples when DD feeds (have a target of weaning her around her birthday next month!)

lljkk, prenatal testing is an individual decision so don't feel that you have to justify it to anyone. I've never gone in for it before, didn't have any scans the last couple of times, but this time because I'm that much older (will be 37 by Feb eek!) I have booked a nuchal scan and possible CVS at the FMC for next month. I only booked the CVS appointment so I have the option, don't want to have to go up to London twice. Was bad enough getting my MIL to take the kids off my hands once - she was dying to know what my appointment was for

Trying to resist the temptation to have a viability scan even though there's a place just round the corner from school that does it! If there is anything amiss I'll find out soon enough.

rozzyraspberry · 20/06/2007 16:24

Ginger - LOL at you being 'ancient'. I'm not sure what the average age for women giving birth is at the moment but I'm sure you would find it's much higher than when you had your first 2. I'm sure your age is not really out of the ordinary now for having children. Anyway, you're as old as you feel and having another lo will keep you young!

lljk - I have always had to go to GP to confirm pregnancy. I have to put a urine sample in a few days before my appointment so pregnancy is confirmed before I see the GP. Had my appointment today - all she did was take my blood pressure, ask if I had any problems in previous pregnancies, give me the form to hand in for free prescriptions, and work out my due date (although I did that myself about 3 weeks ago!). She'll refer me to the maternity hospital who'll send me out my booking in appointment when I'll get my scan. Feels quite exciting to have it confirmed even although I'd already done about 6 pregnancy tests myself .

DS1 had his booster jabs today. He then claimed he couldn't put his jacket or wellies (raining again here!!) back on as he didn't want to hurt his jabs. Males obviously get pathetic with pain at a very early age!! Just as well they don't have to go through pregnancy and childbirth!

Hope everyone else is doing ok!

miniandme · 20/06/2007 17:19

Im feeling rough rough, feel yucky and sicky despite wearing anti sickness bands though not actually been sick, think its worse to be honest feeling nauseous instead of just getting it over with.
Am having trouble too getting a balance with my anti depressants, trying to come off because of the baby but struggling badly without then so have been at the docs today to try and strike a balance for now.
Got my booking in appointment next thursday we only get one scan here at about 13-14 weeks and that us unless something is up,but willhave my 4d scan to look forward to at 27/28 weeks.
Also have my engagement party to look forward to on saturday, just need to get motivated and find the energy to organise the last bist lol

gingermumi · 20/06/2007 20:18

I guess you're right about my age rozzy! Now lots of people have their first baby at my age let alone their third!

Mini- don't know what to suggest about anti-depressants but sorry you feel so rough. Perhaps when they're sorted you will feel better generally. Anyway you have your party to look forward to on Saturday, that's really cool. Hope you have a lovely time !

bluepanda · 20/06/2007 21:10

Hello all - went to doctor's today and she says i'm due Feb 16th! Actually don't feel AT ALL different in any way yesterday or today so have spent the whole time worrying i'm not actually pg after all. I know it's still early days and don't want to let myself get too excited but it's hard not to.
Here's a question for all you mums - how big am i likely to be by five months???? only - i'm getting married in november! All of the scary daily mail type articles had me convinced i was so ancient (was just 35 last week - aaagh - had alcohol!!) it would take me months if not years to conceive and so we may as well just see what happened. And here we are... it's fab - but my dress....

gingermumi · 20/06/2007 22:09

Well bluepanda.... I think you may need to get it let out a bit! . I was my sister's matron of honour (how ridiculous is that?!) at 8mths with dd2 and they put panels in the dress so i could get it on- don't think you'll be that bad but you will have a bump for sure. Lovely to be getting married - i got married (for second time) about 4 1/2 years ago and we had the most brilliant time. BTW you're not ancient (that's me - 41 argg!) and don't worry about the alcohol - just try not to do it again
On symptoms - some of us have loads, some , none at all - it's different for everyone.

bristols · 20/06/2007 22:16

Hi ladies, another newbie here. Have already bumped into Rozzy and Samsmam elsewhere.

Am expecting DC2 on 2nd Feb (by my reckoning) and am slowly getting used to the idea. My DS is only 9 months old so it's come as a bit of a shock.

Am feeling really well, just incredibly tired. Thankfully DS is a good sleeper and still sleeps for two hours in the day so I have a little kip then. I'm still on maternity leave and due back at work in August.

Hope the sickness passes for you all soon.

My tummy hasn't changed much yet, but then it is still fairly wobbly from last pregnancy!

Difficult to say how big you will be at five months, bluepanda. Have you ordered your dress yet? Probably worth discussing it with the shop. They will know what size to order to allow for alterations etc.

Will try to pop in when I can. Its very busy on here!

CountTo10 · 20/06/2007 22:32

Blimey, you stay away for a couple of days and look what happens!!! Ok....deep breath!!

Teejay - I know it's a bit late but sorry to hear your news and fingers crossed for the future x

Jo - hope you're feeling ok and fingers crossed for you all round

Welcome and congrats to all new people!!

Well, I'm actually feeling a lot better this week. I seem to be sleeping a lot better which makes a difference so i have a little more energy. Plus my appetite has jumped right up which is becoming noticeable now!!! I am defo getting a bit of a bump now and I feel huge!!! Getting stong sense that having a girl - got it right last time so who knows. We won't find out but I am more tempted this time. Am very hormonal at the moment though which isn't great as ds is very difficult at the mo so not so good on that front.
As for cravings, drove to 6 different shops tonight to get some hagen daaz ice cream - nothing else was going to do it!!!!!

Egg · 21/06/2007 08:44

Feeling a bit blue today . Had a teeny bit of brownish dischange (sorry if TMI) this morning, which scares me. Now realise I don't feel sick either. Then I was using peppermint oil round our dustbin as was told it will help get rid of ants, and have read it is dangerous in pregnancy. Am panicking a bit this morning. Not happy.

VictorVictoria · 21/06/2007 08:52

Hello all

Have been lurking and not posting as have been utterly paranoid about miscarriage (2 in last 9 months) and proverbially holding my breath for the last few weeks. But I had a scan on Tuesday, dated spot on at 7+5 and heartbeat present. and am vomiting violently morning and evening. so am relaxing a little.

Egg, I had this with my DS so not necessarily a bad sign. But I would go and have a scan

Teejay so sorry

OP posts:
Egg · 21/06/2007 08:58

I had it with DS as well, and had an early scan. But it was such a tiny amount this time. Oh am having such a fraught morning, this pg lark is so scary. VV really glad the scan went well, you must feel very relieved .

beansprout · 21/06/2007 08:59

Egg! Big reassuring beany-hippy aromatherapist hug to you!! Don't worry!! The peppermint you have used will NOT have affected nemo. You would have to rub a bottle of high grade oil on your belly for him to get a whiff of it and even then he would probably be fine. As for the discharge, it's easy for me to say "don't worry" but a small bit of brown discharge is fine at the stage we are at. Old blood is fine, it's the new, red stuff we want to avoid. But of course, if you are worried, do contact your nearest EPU.

Counto10- am impressed with your Haagen Daaz quest!

Have been awake since 3am and dh is away . Am at work, trying to remember my own name. Am sooooo tired.

Sorry some of you are feeling so sick.
VV - glad you are posting. Your comment about relaxing now that you are violently puking did make me smile (in a nice way!)

Jo9977 · 21/06/2007 10:36

Morning all!

So good to keep up with everyone and have lots to read while at work (which is very boring! Work that is!!!)

VV - glad you're feeling a bit more relaxed and hope the puking makes you feel more reassured rather than just rubbish!

Miniandme - what anti-depressants are you on at the moment? I'm on prozac and have been given the information about risks to the baby compared to risks to me being off them...and I'm staying on! If it all goes well, I'm going to try and reduce to half dose and then come off for the last month or so to try and get as much out of the baby's system as possible before birth. Let me know how you get on. x

rozzyraspberry · 21/06/2007 10:40

Hi everyone.

Bristols - welcome to the thread! I'm glad you're getting more used to the idea now and hopefully getting a little bit excited now?

Egg - try not to worry. As you said it was only a teeny bit of discharge and brown rather than red. As for the peppermint oil I'm no expert but I can't see what you've done having any effect on nemo. And sickness can come and go.

Jo - I'm glad you seem to be more positive today!!

Everyone else hope you're ok and not too tired/sick!

beansprout · 21/06/2007 13:24

How are you feeling Egg?

Jo - hope this week isn't going too slowly for you.

Dh away - did I spend yesterday evening reading an improving book? Catching up on home improvements? Or watching clips of David Tennant on Youtube?
I don't fancy him as the Doctor but defy anyone not to succumb to his charms in "Blackpool". Sigh.

miniandme · 21/06/2007 13:31

Jo i was on andoff prozac for 10 years but recently changed to citalopram, was on 20 mg but reduced to 10mg when i found out i was pg ,then reduced again to 5mg and thats when the problems returned so have gone back up to 10mgs.Was told the only real side effects were neonatal withdrawal so am too going to try and be reduced to very little if anything nearer the time bean is getting ready to make an appearance

gingermumi · 21/06/2007 17:56

Hi ladies,

Am feeling rather yuk today, hope you're ok egg, keep smiling jo, congrats to vv on scan and welcome bristols (love the name!). Don't really feel up to posting so am going to sign off for today. May not get chance tomorrow as it's dh's birthday - we're going out for lunch - hope i feel better than this!

Oh, and David Tennant is rather lovely!

fillyjonk · 21/06/2007 17:59

oh god have only just caught up with thread, am lost in all this news really but SO sorry to hear teejays.

Really best of luck for future. God how crappy. I know it WILL happen to some of us...but it'd be so much better if it didn't

Egg · 21/06/2007 18:05

Hello. Thanks everyone for lovely supportive comments, esp Beany who reassured me on my other thread too . Feeling ok, well, feeling sick, which is good! No bleeding or anything so am going on the assumption it was nothing. Crazy how panicked we get about these little pea-sized creatures.

Jo - hope everything is still going ok. It is nearly the end of THURSDAY now. Then it is almost the weekend, and it will be Monday and you will be reassured that all is well.

Ginger, sorry you are feeling yucky, I don't think anyone understands quite how crap permanent nausea and tiredness etc makes you feel. Hope you manage to enjoy DH's bday.

As for David Tennant... the first thing I saw him in was that Killing Me Softly drama on ITV, and he played a really creepy character, so that's how I think of him. He just doesn't do it for me. I did go through a phase during the sleep deprived first few months of DS's life where I had crushes on Matthew Wright AND Jeremy Kyle . Now that is BAD.

Egg · 21/06/2007 18:07

Filly - agree completely with those sentiments. It would be very unlikely that every single one of us made it through to "the end" without any problems, but you still hope and pray that all 100% of us will be ok, and it is still so sad when something goes wrong.

fillyjonk · 21/06/2007 18:10

the nausea thing IS awful. Its the third time i've been through it now and i always forget. i have about 10 foods that I can eat, most of them fruit, none of them cheese or chocolate.

yet mysteriously i am getting FATTER and am not sure WHY

teejay · 21/06/2007 18:46

Egg- all my hopes and fingers are all crossed for you.
