Oh pobletsmum, heartburn can definitely be pregnancy related. I knocked back a lot of Gaviscon last time (it is fine to take in pregnancy).

Forgot to say, have got my scan date through, it is 20 July. 5 weeks on Friday. Not *that long to wait!

rozzyraspberry · 13/06/2007 17:56

Thanks Beller, I'll try calling a few NHS dentists but most of the dentists round here have turned private so not overly confident I'll get one.

Egg - lucky you you've got your scan date through - that doesn't seem too long away does it. I'm sure the time will pass quickly enough.

Pobletsmum - I'm sorry you felt so sick last time - I know what you mean about eating being the only thing to help. Luckily my sickness has only lasted the first trimester in previous 2 pregnancies so weight gain not too bad. Once you have 2 dc the weight will drop off you'll be running around so much!

So far I have only told my mum. Will see how I get on keeping it a secret from everyone else!

Everyone else - hope you've had a nice day and are all ok!

pobletsmum · 13/06/2007 18:54

rozzy - good luck with the dentist hunt.

Egg - I remember glugging Gaviscon out of those huge bottles you get on prescription for the last few weeks before DS was born . I was getting through about 1 a week! I was told it was because all my organs were squashed so everything got pushed up, so I just didn't think it would happen at this stage. I've been OK today, so hopefully it was just a random passing symptom!

That reminds me - to any 1st time mums and others who didn't know - you can quite a few things on prescription and they're free during pregnancy (Gaviscon, paracetamol etc.). I spent a fortune on Gavison before realising I could get it for free.

Egg · 13/06/2007 18:59

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my god. Me too. It never occurred to me to get Gaviscon on prescription. Hurrah! Thanks for the tip .

alkar · 13/06/2007 20:25

Just wanted to say hello,a friend has just told me about this site. I am just over 6 weeks pregnant due at the beginning of Feb. Bit freaked out about things still as I had a misc back in march. Been having stomach pain and weirdly lower back pains. Had a couple of scans already and all looks ok, got another scan on Monday so fingers crossed I can see the heartbeat (think I will worry less then)

CountTo10 · 13/06/2007 20:27

Evening!!

Ok where to start!!

Perscription certs don't usually take that long to come through. With dentists, it can depend on the dentist themselves. If you've been a patient for a while and attended your regular check ups etc, it might be they'll be prepared to do it so if that's the case its worth a chat with them otherwise it's find an nhs one if you can!

Now, is anyone else out there - prob not first timers (not that I'm trying to leave you out!!) - that are feeling flutters and shifting about. I'm getting more and more of it and it's freaking me out a bit. Starting to panic there's more than one - eeeeek!!!

CountTo10 · 13/06/2007 20:27

Welcome alkar and hope you're feeling ok.

manamana · 13/06/2007 21:11

Hello all! So much chat its fantastic. Am gonna be quick cos its Britain's got talent - I LOVE IT, and it makes me cry the whole way through!
I've been feeling bit emotional about whole thing, bit scared of birth/newborn time etc as last time was a bit tough going but MiL is coming to stay for the weekend while dh is away so we can have a lovely girly weekend getting excited and talking about babies, names etc Haven't told my mum yet, will do so soon. Have told a couple of close friends and nct friends.

teejay · 14/06/2007 08:22

just a quickie as ds is watching tommy Zoom and we really need to get to nursery
re Dentists- ring NHS direct they have a list of NHS dentists in your area- whilst not always really up to date my partner broke a tooth last year and managed to find one.
Good luck to all newbies-fingers crossed for you all.

pobletsmum · 14/06/2007 08:37

Manamana - I thought you must be due about the same time as me. I'm not sure of my dates yet cos my pregnancy stuff is all in storage, so I haven't checked in my books yet. I had a tough birth/postnatal time too, so I know what you mean about feeling emotional. I'm not sure I'm ready to go through it all again, but I definitely want a brother or sister for my wonderful DS, and I didn't want a big age gap so here I am! Did you have a de-brief? I had one with the head of midwifery but it left a lot of questions unanswered, so I'm hoping that an appointment with a consultant might help.

Egg - glad to help with the prescription thing!

Alkar - hello! Good luck with your scan on monday, and fingers crossed that you see a fluttery little heartbeat.

beansprout · 14/06/2007 08:40

I feel exactly the same pobletsmum. I had a difficult birth and found the new born stage v difficult. I really don't know how I am going to manage and am quite scared, but I do want a sibling for ds. Am feeling very tired and emotional today which isn't helping! I cried when I watched The Apprentice last night as I thought the outcome was so unjust!

pobletsmum · 14/06/2007 08:48

beansprout - I'm not crying at TV programmes yet, but burst into floods of tears if anyone asks me about DS' birth. I can talk to other people about THEIR birth stories, but can't talk about my own (for some bizarre reason it has come up in conversation a few times lately). I recently spoke to the midwife who saw me regularly after DS was born and she said I'm still suffering from post-birth trauma (post-traumatic stress thing). Anyway, I'm trying not to think about the birth etc. yet (easier said than done!). Also, I don't want to scare the first-timers, as many, many people give birth with no problems at all.

teejay · 14/06/2007 08:54

I did the 'birth after thoughts' thing after ds birth- about a year later- mainly because it was such a blur I didnt really feel part of the experience. i found it useful but like you guys say- not everything was covered, I hope to go over it again with the midwife.
I'm worried because I had pre eclampsia last time and am dreading getting it again

rozzyraspberry · 14/06/2007 09:05

Hi everyone.

Beansprout - I agree with you about the apprentice - I really thought Christina was going to win, I didn't think Simon was very good at all!

I'm sorry some of you have had traumatic births but most mums have straight forward births and hopefully things will be better for you (and good for us all!) this time. I have been really lucky both times with no problems - probably why I'm having a third!! Just wanted to reassure the first time mums!

Anyway DH has taken DS1 to nursery so will probably spend the whole morning doing puzzles with DS2 because he's obsessed by them. Then think we might go to pizza hut for lunch for a holiday treat! Let's face it I'm going to get fat anyway!!!

Hope you all have a nice day.

pobletsmum · 14/06/2007 09:12

Thanks for sharing your positive experiences rozzy - I am very aware that I was unlucky, and as I said, I don't want to scare anyone, after all, I'm pregnant again so that says something. Let's hope others will add their positive experiences here to reassure us all

indignatio · 14/06/2007 09:21

I can add a positive experience for the first timers. Had a very easy birth with ds - he arrived 10 mins after I reached hospital. DH only just made it into the room from the car park. Part of me is tempted by a home birth if this little one hangs on and there are no complications.

lljkk · 14/06/2007 10:59

OOPS, my due date is actually 2 Feb, not 7 Feb.

"Hi!" to all the recent joiners.

I thought "they" always took blood at 1st antenatal appointment to check your "usual" blood iron levels, and to look for rare antibodies.

I've had 2 Home births. 1st was very straightforward. 2nd time I bled a lot so went to hospital to check if I needed transfusion (didn't). I think high blood loss was because of the position I gave bith in, so something I can do different next time, but "they" won't recognise this in "their" notes and assessments.

Local lady popped out a 10 lb baby at home last year (easily, not even a tear) but was told she would not have been "allowed" a HB if they had known bubba was so big, she would be required to have lots of scans to verify size not too big if she wanted a future homebirth.

Another lady with planned HB was told to go to hospital because no MWs available.

I fear I sound so bolshy, I know my "rights", but really I'm a mouse, and don't want the faff of arguing with anybody!

I think I'm starting to panic, actually, at what's coming (all of it!).

But I am grateful to be nearly 7 weeks and only little spells of nausea -- so far, touch wood!

Would love an afternoon nap, every day at 4pm I go a bit comatose on the sofa but can't actually sleep with DS3 around.

K27 · 14/06/2007 11:48

Howdy all Feb thread. My friend recommended this site and I am very glad she did.
I am 5 weeks pregnant with my first child. Am very excited. Looking forward to learning lots from you all and getting to know you all!

Jo9977 · 14/06/2007 16:25

Hi everyone!

Me too, me too! My first after a year of fertility treatment and I can't believe it...got a 7 week scan 'cos of the treatment and desperate for some confirmation of it all!

gingermumi · 14/06/2007 16:48

Hi and congrats to newcomers.

Beansprout - don't tell anyone unless you want to, it's your choice.

Have told close family as (like some others)I feel that if something went wrong i would need their support. Have told a couple of close friends, one was brilliant and the other was about to tell me how sorry she was (for newbies - am 41 with dds 19 and 16) when she realised i had planned pregnancy. She then proceded to tell me about al the bad things that could happen to me or the baby. Not helpful!
Dh thinks she's jealous as she wanted another baby but new partner didn't.

Have mixed feelings about medical profession- dd1 was v prem and have nothing but praise for staff who looked after us. With dd2 i felt some of hosp docs treated you rather impersonally. Didn't say anything at time (young and not so bolshy). Would do now!

Phoned mw at wkend as i had swollen ankles but noone rang me back just rested and they are almost better now. Went to docs yeaterday as I have blisters on tummy and legs - he was really nice. He said i've probably got mild chickenpox but not a problem as is mild and i've had it before (apparently that makes a difference). Anyone have any experience of this? He also said I'm carrying a lot of fluid hence ankles and general fatness.

gingermumi · 14/06/2007 16:51

OOPs! Seem to have posted that twice!

Really need to get a maternity bra or two. Looked at weekend and they seem really unflattering - any recommendations? Also didn't want to temp fate by buying them. Am i being daft?

pobletsmum · 14/06/2007 19:02

Gingermumi - sorry about the swollen ankles. At least they're getting better. It's a bit worrying that the midwives didn't ring you back.

As for maternity bras, you're not tempting fate. It's important for your boobs and your back to have a well-fitting bra. can't recommend any, but there are sometimes revews on baby websites etc (maybe Babyworld has one?) which can tell you which are comfortable. Lots of my friends went to Mothercare, but I didn't have any luck there - they weren't comfy or supportive enough for my melons! I went to John Lewis for a couple and bought crop-top style ones from eBay for right near the end/feeding, which were really ugly, but functional. Just be prepared to buy more than one new set if you buy some now - you will grow again in the next 8 months. Happy bra-hunting!

pobletsmum · 14/06/2007 19:05

Forgot to say hi to K27 & Jo9977. Please add yourselves to the due date list so we can all follow your progress

lljkk · 14/06/2007 19:08

Ginger -- I don't want to worry you but... chickenpox can cause (in rare cases) birth defects if mother gets it in 1st half of pregnancy. So I think you should double check with your MW about the second bout of chickenpox not being anything to worry about.

On the other hand, there isn't anything you can do, and even if this were your first ever bout of CP the odds of it causing harm are very low, but... you probably want to be sure.
