Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
loonyballoony · 06/06/2007 20:24

Rozzy, good to hear we're close in dates. My surgery doesn't offer pregnancy tests anymore (probably cutbacks), suppose I don't really need it but wanted to be reassured by someone medical I suppose. Is it common in other surgeries not to offer tests anymore?

rozzyraspberry · 06/06/2007 20:30

I have to give a urine sample into my surgery before my first appointment to confirm pregnancy. I think some doctors don't bother because the home tests are so sensitive and reliable if you get a positive on a home test you are pregnant. I don't see the point in the doctors doing another test personally but that's what they like to do here.

How old is your dd?

loonyballoony · 06/06/2007 20:36

Dd is 2.7 now and blissfully asleep after a busy afternoon. All I can hope for is the same pregnancy I had with her, because apart from the cyatica (sp?) the last few months and tiredness, it was pretty good, no sickness at all!

rozzyraspberry · 06/06/2007 20:40

I have a ds aged 2yrs 7mo and a ds aged 4yrs 6 mo. I have had good pregnancies too - not too much sickness and apart from general uncomfiness was really lucky. Fingers crossed we're all lucky this time!

loonyballoony · 06/06/2007 20:53

How funny, your ds is 2.7, if you don't mind me asking when is his birthday? My dd's birtday is 6 December.

beansprout · 06/06/2007 20:54

Hi everyone. Docs trip went ok, with the possible exception of me saying, "I had a chemical pregnancy last month", and the doc looking a bit bemused and saying, "oh, what do you mean, IVF?" Er, no..... Ah well.

The magic wheel of fortune said I was due on the 2nd when every other preg calculator says I am due on the 1st . No matter, it's all academic. Ds was 16 days late after all!

Welcome to loony and hello to everyone else. Am off to watch The Apprentice and eat chocolate. Oh yes.

flamingnora · 06/06/2007 20:54

Hi Egg - I am the other side of the Rye from Goose Green (love that part of town though!). Went to the doctor today and have been refered to Kings College Hospital - does anyone have experience of this place? I've felt very woolly-headed today and a bit useless - hope that passes!...
Have bought the sea sickness bands in preparation for feeling awful but, thankfully have not needed them yet. Hope everyone else is ok.

rozzyraspberry · 06/06/2007 20:57

Flaming nora and beansprout - I'm glad your doctors appointments went ok.

Loony my ds birthday is 28th October. I think that makes 4 or 5 of us who have older dc of around 2yrs 7mo.

Am definitely off this time - the apprentice beckons!!

Have a good evening everyone and a good nights sleep!

gingermumi · 06/06/2007 21:10

Glad all good at docs today. My surgery don't test either - i think it's like Rozzy says, the tests are so good now they don't bother.

loonyballoony · 06/06/2007 21:19

I'll just have to be patient and wait till I'm approx. 8/9 weeks and make an appointment to see the mw. Although I'm not looking forward to the bloodtaking bit which that involves if I remember correctly from last time! Going to watch some telly now. Night night.

manamana · 06/06/2007 22:14

hello, guessing everyone on this thread is sensibly tucked up for an early night. I have very foolishly done a test while dh is away and got a thin BFP!!!! Period is due on Friday and was going to test friday morning but have been feeling constipated for last couple of weeks (was the giveaway last time), trousers are V tight (just read through the whole thread and am v relieved to see that this is normal!), and this morning I fell asleep on the sofa while ds was playing (he's 22mo) and only woke up when dh phoned - whoops!
Feeling v odd, worried I've just imagined the bfp - but pretty sure I looked at it after only 3/4mins and there was a pretty definite light pink line next to the fat one.
Have one more test in the house but am gonna wait until dh comes home tomorrow so we can watch it together!!! Got a really busty day at work tomorrow and really need to do some prep tonight but ds has been up until 10 with teething and am thinking should really go to bed. So relieved to see that you are all as panicky as I feel, just seems ridiculous to think that i'm pregnant. Anyway, you seem like a lovely bunch and i'm very excited to hear that there's someone else down my neck of the woods - I work in CHichester. But anyway, feel like its tempting fate to even be on this thread so will sign off and hopefully chat to you all soon.

manamana · 06/06/2007 22:15

ha ha - not a 'busty' day at all - after ds my boobs shrunk to an aa cup!!!! very much looking forward to pg boobs but not even a twinge there yet!

Egg · 07/06/2007 08:24

Hellooooo Manamana! You were the one who started the June TTC thread! A BFP already wahey! Welcome to our small but growing gang and LOL about the busty day, I never have one of those since DS, although hoping to get a bit of cleavage whilst pg.

Flamingnora - Kings College Hospital is FABULOUS as I was born there . Ok that was rather a long time ago, but my sis has had her three kids there. She did say aftercare was crap when first DC was born, but it seems to be that way everywhere from what I have read. She went for for DC2 and DC3 so must have been ok.

Need to read thread to catch up on any other posts, so back again later on!

miniandme · 07/06/2007 08:42

Well lucky me !! The vomiting started yesterday just when i was hoping i might get away with it this time!! Just in time for my long weekend away tomorrow -great eh!!

DearBeatrice · 07/06/2007 09:33

hi everyone

hi rozzy, loony, i'm due 7th - so near you datewise also

was woken up by sore boobs last night (agonising burning nipple) and felt quite sicky so am sort of glad my symptoms are present and 'alive'

went to visit kingston hospital this morning (private wing) but was almost more impressed by the nhs bit - the rooms were great - a serious contender although the obstetricians set fee is £4k, only £1k less than the consultants at Chelsea & Westminster. It's still going to be a £7k op. My GP won't let me go to Kingston on NHS though

how is everyone else feeling today?

smudgermumof3 · 07/06/2007 10:37

hi all im new to mumsnet, so i am just floating around saying hi, i got pregnant in my 30s after i vowed id never have another one but so glad i did fell like im a better mum now. so good luck all with your pregnancies

Slacker · 07/06/2007 11:20

Flamingnora - were you not able to book with the Albany midwives then? Maybe they have a limited catchment area. Anyway I've heard Kings is good; although they have a high c/s rate on paper that's because of the large number of high risk pregnancies referred there, so if you're not high risk the midwife led care and homebirth rates are actually very good, apparently. My SIL had her first baby there and was happy with it.

Welcome to Manamana and Loony, and hope everyone else is feeling not too bad today, I'm going to buy another test later I think to see if I've got a dark line on it as I'm getting worried by lack of symptoms!

Egg · 07/06/2007 12:28

I can safely say I have been feeling sick all morning. Have now had an upset stomach as well. Don't like it as I always gets uspet stomach when my period is starting...

Loony sorry forgot to say welcome earlier I think. Hope you are feeling ok. I love the term "up the duff".

Have so many things I need to be doing now DS is in bed, but dont want to do any of them (one of them is venture out to the car and try to clean up the dried puke...).

Beatrice, Kingston is one of my current options and have heard it is very good, although I would still go back to C&W if I was in this area as I know it now. Am sure you have already said but were you not offered a choice of more than one hospital? I was offered four last time (C&W / Kingston / Queen Charlotte's and St George's in Tooting). It is very unfair that you either have to go to a hospital you don't like, or pay to go elsewhere.

DearBeatrice · 07/06/2007 12:36

hi egg - hope the sickness continues in a m/s type way - try not to worry - i know it's easier said than done.

i haven't pressed for any option other than chertsey, but was told that it was the only one by a semi-retired gp - i know i should have choice.

don't get me wrong, i'm not limp, but i then spoke to a 2nd gp who didn't offer anything else - even when she said that sh'ed heard horror stories from two patients within the last year. not easy to get a gp to volunteer that info is it.

i could phone up and say i've seen kingston, i guess, and request to go there - but it's a different area entirely (different PCT). The others are just silly journeys away - Guildford etc...

rozzyraspberry · 07/06/2007 13:03

Congratulations manamana! and hello to everyone else.

I'm having a bit of a strange day today - was at work this morning but have had to come home for a few hours to let dh off to a funeral (he looks after the kids whilst I'm at work), then I'll be back off to work again so won't be home until late.

Almost envious of those of you who are having proper pregnancy symptoms - shouldn't be really I'm sure they'll come to me soon enough and I know they are not very nice. Egg I wouldn't worry too much - I read somewhere that a lot of women have symptoms like AF pains when they're pregnant. Slacker - I know what you mean I have been so tempted to get another test as well. I did have an extra digital one which I did earlier in the week but somehow that's not quite as satisfying as seeing a dark line is it?

DB I thought someone was due around the 7th! Not far from my date of the 9th. I think I've said before but I feel really sorry for those of you who are having to make decisions and pay for maternity care. So much for the NHS!

Anyway I'll catch up with you all later.

loonyballoony · 07/06/2007 15:52

Thanks for welcoming me ladies. No symptoms here as yet apart from the seriously sore boobs (have to try to anticipate when dd is going to jump on me!) and am very tired. Didn't have any sickness with dd so time will tell if this is going to be the same.
Hope everyone is OK at the moment, hope you can all cope with the sickness if you've got it. Am impressed that some of you are already looking into maternity care, very organised! For some reason I can't quite look that far ahead, probably once I'm past 3 months I will. Look forward to chat tomorrow am out tonight.

fillyjonk · 07/06/2007 17:44

oh GOD i feel dire, i have 2 preschoolers to look after most of the time, i am very very grumpy

i hope you all enjoyed those gp visits. first time, i tested at nearly 4 weeks and then when it was positive beat down the gp's door next morning .

dd i had early scans, so.

i am just lazy really

am toying with idea of home birth, anyone else?

manamana · 07/06/2007 20:11

hello again all, bought another test today and stared at it while the line appeared!!! Still can't quite believe it. Dh is getting home around 1am tomorrow morning and I have another test in the drawer to suprise him with. Still feeling absolutely knackered and also feel like I've put on about 1 stone in the last couple of weeks - most work trousers are seriously tight, god knows how i'm going to hide this in summer clothes! So impressed that you are all starting to look into options for birth. I have been meaning to make an appt to see head of maternity services at our local hosp as had bit of a bad time last time and need to go through notes etc and talk about this time, that's now looking a bit more urgent buti still feel a bit teary about it all so expect i'll put it off for a bit longer! We're planning to move in next couple of months so will be in a diff hosp/have different gp which makes me nervous as i really like my current gp. Anyway, we're away for the weekend so have to go and pack now and will catch up with you all next week

leesmum · 07/06/2007 21:25

welcome to all the new ladies ,are you all as excited as the rest of us? and even when you know your preg it still gives you butterflies to do more and more tests been feeling very rough today and even contemplated not going in work! just wanted to get in bed and sleep all day, but pulled myself together and trudged off.And my boobs are now that sore that i dread taking my bra off!! What a shit state i'm in.lol.

beansprout · 07/06/2007 21:30

Sorry to hear some of you are feeling so rough. I think the first trimester is the hardest bit (bar about the last month), the tiredness and m/s are just vile. They haven't kicked in so far but I don't really think I am going to get away with it, so it's only a matter of time.... That said, still have horrendous cold/cough so feel like poo on a stick anyway.

Ginger biscuit anyone?
