Morning all

DB miscarriages come in all shapes and sizes. You'd be unlucky to have a missed m/c with no bleeding but it does happen. I have had two - first was missed, found out at an 8 week scan. Had had some brown bleeding. Had to have an ERPC as it refused to come out on its own. Second one miscarried naturally at 5 weeks

HOWEVER we only want positive thoughts on this thread. (says she who has been very uncalm on the pregnancy after m/c thread)

am nearly 6 weeks so passed my first danger point. Starting to wee a lot at night now and very vaguely nauseos till I eat something in the morning

Morning ladies and welcome to Teejay.

Feeling very knackered today, sorry to hear lots of you are feeling nauseous too. I woke up feeling sick but felt ok once I was up. I am terrified of missed mc, even though I have never had one, but am trying not to worry too much.

Filly I agree with you, in that seeing the doc is almost pointless, they don't retest, or take blood, or anything, but they do put you in the system so you get a 12-week scan date through, and I felt somehow better after seeing the doc (no idea why).

beansprout · 06/06/2007 09:32

Bugger, someone just guessed I am preg

I'm only off to the docs as the hospital I wanted to go to last time was booked up so I want to make sure I am in the system nice and early this time and don't end up with second choice again. It it wasn't for that, I wouldn't bother either. Do they hand out that ridiculous Emma's Diary second time around or do they know you would just laugh in their face?

rozzyraspberry · 06/06/2007 10:30

oh no beansprout - what did you say? Will they be able to keep it quiet for you?

beansprout · 06/06/2007 11:15

I think she will, I have certainly asked her to. Am more concerned that it is just becoming obvious. I feel quite put out that other people will know, whether I want them to or not. All part of the becoming-public-property aspect which I found so hard last time. I will be ranting about this at length over the coming months I'm afraid.....

Plus, the trousers that were ok at 6.30 this morning are now feeling way too tight, so I'll have stomach ache for the rest of the day. Great.

rozzyraspberry · 06/06/2007 12:09

I know what you mean - if you wanted people to know you would have told them.

I know what you mean about the public property bit too. People seem to think you like being asked lots of personal questions when you're pregnant don't they! My mother in law was always asking me if I'd put on much weight which used to really annoy me! Weight is such a personal thing and I thought how I was feeling whilst pregnant was more important than how much weight I'd gained. I suppose I've got all that to look forward to still.

When's your docs appointment.

beansprout · 06/06/2007 12:20

5.40 in theory, probably about 6.10 in practice. Have ds's favourite tractor book in my bag so am relying on that quite heavily to get us through the wait!!

Bah to tight trousers though, am already feeling very self conscious!

Egg · 06/06/2007 12:49

Oh beansprout. Did your colleague just come out with it and ask? Tis a very rude thing to do, you should never put people on the spot like that as it is hard to lie if you are asked outright. Not what you need.

Hope all goes well at docs today, and also for flamingnora. Nora you never did say what part of Peckham you are in, are you anywhere near Goose Green?

Am about to go for a nice lie down (sorry to those of you at work). DS is really being difficult at the moment, crying when he doesn't get what he wants, kicking and screaming if I try to remove him from any situation - he is wearing me out. Still very cute though .

rozzyraspberry · 06/06/2007 13:11

I agree with you Egg - people shouldn't put you on the spot like that - it isn't fair.

Hope you don't have to wait too long in docs beansprout.

DearBeatrice · 06/06/2007 14:03

i'm bound to get someone ask me before too long - am putting off going to another office of our co's which I visit, since one lady has been asking me since I got married - I sarcastically told her she'd 'be the first to know' last time she did it.. but it's been a while. v rude.

this misgivings stuff is also true as a symptom, don't you find girls? I popped into tesco last night and found myself quite irritated by two kids screaming in unison. patience not my strong point.

does anyone know anything about the £4k midwifery scheme thing at queen charlottes by the way? Am finding myself balking at the now £8k that seems likely for a consultant led birth anywhere.. and since i'm adamant i dont want to go to st peters chertsey (my local) i think i'm going to have to pay to go elsewhere.

is it safe to have midwife led birth for your no. 1 child?

(sos for all the questions) - hope doc visit goes quickly beansprout

Egg · 06/06/2007 14:34

DB - you have reminded me that I became very intolerant of small children during the last few months of my pg with DS. What on earth will I do if it happens this time? I found myself avoiding my nieces and nephew, who are lovely, as I found it all too much! Poor DS .

With my last birth, I never saw anyone other than the one midwife. She was there throughout, and I never saw a doctor / surgeon / consultant etc the whole time (obviously saw other hospital staff once on main ward but not until well after DS was born). Saying that, it was a very straightforward birth and she had no need to call anyone else in. Am presuming if you do opt for a midwife led birth, they would obviously call a consultant if there were any probs?

Hope this makes sense, typing quickly as DS has just woken up!

rozzyraspberry · 06/06/2007 15:05

DB I'm not sure what to advise you about midwife v consultant led wards. My local maternity hospital has both and although I've had no complications so have stayed on the midwife led ward it was comforting to know that if I did have any problems the consultant led ward was just at the end of the corridor. If I were you I would get more info eg what would happen if you had any problems - would a consultant be called or would you have to be transferred - if so how far would it be? I don't know if this is standard everywhere but you can't get an epidural in my local midwife unit and obviously you if you need an emergency c section you have to be transferred.

I think it's a shame that you have to make these sorts of decisions. Everyone should have access to good care without having to pay for it.

CountTo10 · 06/06/2007 16:48

Hello all!!! We just have standard care so it's mainly midwives but if you've had complications before you see consultants and stuff. On the day, you see a doc and a midwife and if there's any complications you go straight into surgery with a consultant so it's more reassuring for me. I had a relatively easy time last time but I still like the idea of being in hospital.

So went to the chemist and spoke about my hayfever and you're not supposed to use anything - no drops, sprays, nothing so now I've got to just wear dark glasses and shove wads of tissue up my nose!!

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 06/06/2007 16:52

Gatecrashing you thread here but as I am ttc I like to read just in case

Anyway DearBeatrice you must be quite near me I am in Leatherhead anyway with my ds I didnt want to go to Epsom as they were getting bad reviews at the time and I found this website

www.birthchoiceuk.com if you go to your hospital and click it brings up a list of other hospitals private and nhs that are near by I told my doctor I wanted to go to Guildford and thats where i went hope this helps!

hope to be joining you all soon touching loads of wood!

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 06/06/2007 16:53

here is a better link as the site is quite hard to find yourself around! www.birthchoiceuk.com/Frame.htm

Slacker · 06/06/2007 17:17

There's also the Dr Foster guide for maternity statistics, the figures do vary between this and the BirthchoiceUK guide so I don't know which is more accurate, but you might want to look at both if you're trying to choose between hospitals.

The scheme at Queen Charlotte's for a semi-private midwife is called Jentle [sic] midwifery, if you want to google it, but I'm sure I read somewhere that it's not running any more after all the furore in the press about it. Best ask them though. And yes it's safe to have midwife led care for a first baby, safer than consultant care IMHO . Or you could book an independent midwife, they mostly do homebirths but some do hospital too, I know someone whose IM accompanied them to the C&W for a planned hospital birth.

Anyway, I'm still pregnant, but not much in the way of symptoms at all, I am very knackered though and am currently having a lie down after exhausting myself on the school run! Hope the sickness holds off for a while longer, or maybe this could be my first ever pregnancy without it. I can hope.

jacobandlysette · 06/06/2007 17:40

Littlesoldiersmummy caught you lurking - I too am ttc and just having a bit of a scan.

gatecrashing on the choice of hospitals thing - you can go wherever you want. In theory. You can kick up a fuss and say where you want to go and if you get in early enough they may not be "full" around your due date. Even so, you can have your antenatal care at one hospital but if you happen to be near another hospital when you go into labour you can go there - indeed if you have to get an ambulance anywhere they will take you to the nearest as the crow flies hospital.

I was at Queen Charlotte's and apparently there is something close by that causes women not on their books to go into labour in the vicinity

what i'm trying to say is that you can say you want to go somewhere else and you do have a choice - just stick to your guns if you really want it!

and good luck everyone!

xxxxx

jacobandlysette · 06/06/2007 17:44

DearBeatrice - i too think they have stopped the scheme. What nhs trust are you part of as there may be more than one hospital in the trust. Or the alternative as i think someone else said is that you just take your own private midwife along - there are a coupole of really good agencies out there.

There is no reason you must have a consultant led unless you are high risk (i had severe pre eclampsia so was always going to have a consultant) - and you get much less interventions with midwives. agree with slacker who said it's nice to know the consultants are there if you need them.

loonyballoony · 06/06/2007 18:58

Hi ladies, hope it's ok to crash the thread. Fairly certain I'm up the duff, am 3 days late, have done 2 tests and both came up positive. I think my due date would be 12 Feb, which I've looked up on a website that calculates it for you. The only signs so far are really sore boobs and am very tired and a bit irritable with my dd. Hope to chat later as I'm now gonna bath my dd.

CountTo10 · 06/06/2007 19:28

Congrats loony and welcome! Fingers crossed for those lurkers out there!!
I'm struggling with the hormones today. I've got a kitchen in disarray whilst dp struggles to decorate it, the place is sposed to be going on the market soon yet it's a tip most of the time, our remortage is turning into a nightmare so dp is now doing drama queen about moving and having a baby, ds is being a bit loopy at the mo, i'm tired and now waiting for dp to come home so I can go out which I've been looking forward too all week - but no he had to go to cricket. I'm so tired I could weep and I've got washing and ironing coming out of my ears!!!! All I want to do is scream at everyone to f* off and leave me alone crawl onto the sofa with a duvet and a tub of hagan daz and ball my eyes out ON MY OWN!!!!
Ahhhhhhhhh rant over - I do feel somewhat better!!!!

rozzyraspberry · 06/06/2007 19:47

Hi everyone and welcome to loony.

Just wanted to say I hope everyone is feeling ok today. I'm off to do a bit of ironing (great fun!!!) as trying to toilet train ds2 and going through loads of pants and trousers! Then I'm going to sit down and watch the apprentice if I can keep my eyes open for long enough!!

loonyballoony · 06/06/2007 20:00

Thanks countto10, sorry you're had a crappy day! Thanks Rozzyraspberry, hope you enjoy your telly. Anyone else due around the 12th Feb?

gingermumi · 06/06/2007 20:04

Congrats to loony and teejay.

So glad there is now someone older than me on the thread. Midwife called yesterday and suggested we go to screening information talk at the antenatal unit. Will probably go as so much has changed since dd1 and 2. Teejay - have you any experience of tests etc?

Am very tired, came home from work and went to sleep on sofa! Unheard of! Boobs are seriously huge! People are commenting! Had to tell my boss today as she is making all sorts of plans for staffing (am a lecturer at FE College so timetabling etc starts now for 07/08). SHe was really cool and said she wont say anything to anyone. Just felt guilty as she was sorting stuff for me to do and I wont be there.

gingermumi · 06/06/2007 20:06

How did hospital go for people? Lost track of who was going today! Hope all good.

rozzyraspberry · 06/06/2007 20:11

Loony - I'm due 9th so close to you. Most of the others seem to be due around the 1st/2nd so it's nice to have someone else due around the same time!
