@Cakelaur bet you cant wait, its a strange feeling!! because this is the first time ive got this far, I wasn't sure if I was feeling the baby at first, but with it being everyday now, its for sure got to be the baby, and its magical. I'm so excited for you, and cant wait for you to feel it too SmileStar and hows everyone feeling this morning? I'm off to go get my whooping cough jab today, definitely not excited for it!! hatehatehate needles Sad

Cakelaur · 18/07/2018 12:22

Aww @SavanahXx eek. I have no idea if I have an anterior or posterior placenta. But I'm hoping over the next couple of weeks I'll feel it!! 🤞🏻

EnglishIrishRose · 18/07/2018 12:52

Hi everyone...
I've got ANOTHER BOY for the December thread! We found out at a private 16 week scan today. Loved seeing him wiggle around. Midwife heard a great strong heartbeat today as well Smile we're chuffed to bits.

GoldilocksTheGraceless · 18/07/2018 12:59

Gagh @EnglishIrishRose !!!!!! Yay congratulations!!!!!
3 week count down til we find out and I am sooooooooooo keen to know!

Can I quickly rant?
I work across a number of different community centres, shelters, food banks and the like. Sat in one now and just watched a minuscule brand new baby being passed between three women without a thought for holding her teeny tiny head even once. She was lolling all over the place and perpetually had her head hanging down backwards, even when the women had her settled she was still unsupported. It really made me cringe and I was so close to saying something but it is no where near my place to do so. What would you all have done? Should I have said something? I'm a visitor and have no authority whatsoever in this regard, just a regular person.

December2018 · 18/07/2018 13:34

EnglishIrishRose I'm soooo exited for you hun 💙☺️ I'm just loving all these little babbas!

December2018 · 18/07/2018 13:36

Goldilocks I don't think I would have known what to do either... I feel really uncomfortable in situations like that, I just try and escape from them myself I've got bad anxiety anyway and that would have just made it worse

RomPom · 18/07/2018 13:59

Hi ladies, hope everyone is feeling great!

My mum is allowed home from hospital tomorrow for a couple of weeks before going in for her big op. It'll be so lovely for her to be in her own bed and for us to spend some time together not on a hospital ward!

I've got my harmony test and scan on Saturday, which I can't wait for! Finally got to see a midwife here and had my way overdue blood tests done and heard a little heartbeat 😍 That's one big weight off my mind. Pregnancy symptoms have pretty much disappeared as well, so I was so relieved to hear little nugget's heart.

Gemsie1984 · 18/07/2018 14:04

I probably would've wanted to say something but ultimately wouldn't as I wouldn't know what kind of reception I would've received. Not nice to watch though and it's worrying as it's basic common sense.
I've a random question for you all. My other children were born in spring and this is my first winter baby. How many layers do they need on in the house? Might sound daft. Do I buy vest bodysuits that can go under outfits as a layer? Or stick to normal ones with the little sleeve? Don't want him to boil, similarly don't want him to freeze either!

lrwe · 18/07/2018 14:42

@Gemsie1984 my first was born in October and we were in London.

He wore long sleeve vest, body suit, sometimes a cardigan and by Christmas he was in a snow suit when walking round! And lots of wooly hats!!

RomPom · 18/07/2018 14:54

@Gemsie1984 DD was born in November and I usually dressed her in short sleeved vests and babygros in the house and put her in a long sleeved vest if we went out.

Gemsie1984 · 18/07/2018 15:06

Thanks! I'm going to get a room thermometer as my flat is strange as it's naturally quite a cold space but heats up ridiculously quickly. H&M do some really nice long sleeve bodysuits so I'll get some of them. Is anyone using a baby sleeping bag? I've got a swaddle blanket and was going to use that and another blanket on top but thought maybe the sleeping bag was better?

DottyA · 18/07/2018 16:14

Hi everyone! I haven't been on for ages - work's been busy and just life in general really. Think I'm starting to feel some movement at 16 weeks but it's still faint.

@gemsie1984 - sleeping bags are great but they have a minimum weight - usually about 7 and a half or 8 pounds I think? So you might find you can't use them at first.

We tried a few swaddle blankets with my son but he hated all of them and was only 6 pounds 2 so just wrapped him in a cellular blanket at first. I think we left the heating on low the first few weeks at night too - February baby.

kaytees · 18/07/2018 16:49

@Gemsie1984 I was strangely thinking the same thing earlier - my son was born start of April so still a little cold but nothing like a December baby! Agree that it'll be a matter of layering and checking room temp a lot. Long sleeve vests are lovely though, def worth getting!

As previous poster said too, sleeping bags have a minimum weight... my son was over 9 pounds so went straight into one and we loved it (he was forever breaking out of swaddles) but I've heard cellular blankets are good too.

kaytees · 18/07/2018 16:51

Ah yes @AGirlinLondon I agree the baby will seem lower in the newborn bit... I'm only 5 foot 2 though so hopefully it won't bother me too much. Husband is very keen to get a running buggy this time round, too. You sound so organised already!!

SavanahXx · 18/07/2018 17:57

@Cakelaur I bet you'll feel little one soon Smile and what's a anterior or posterior placenta?? my midwife doesn't really have conversations with me, so haven't a clue, feel like I should know it though?

RomPom · 18/07/2018 18:31

Going on previous experience, I think they only make a point of telling you if you have a low or anterior placenta. @SavanahXx anterior means it's at the front, so it may take longer to feel baby's movements. I had this with DD and didn't feel any movements until about 20 weeks.

SavanahXx · 18/07/2018 18:57

ohh, thanks for letting me know @RomPom hate it when I don't know what something means, makes me panic, like I should of already been told Hmm feel silly now haha Blush

MagicalCreatures · 18/07/2018 19:37

Congrats @EnglishIrishRose on your little boy. Very exciting!!!!
@SavanahXx welcome to the group Hun. My midwife is totally rubbish. I don’t feel like I can ask her anything. She always runs late then chucks me out really quickly so she can catch back up again.
@RomPom really pleased your mum is well enough to come home for a while. That’s lovely for you to have some quality time together. I didn’t know you’d actually booked the harmony test. That’s great. Are you going to find out the sex too x x

RomPom · 18/07/2018 19:49

@MagicalCreatures I've been worried about this pregnancy after a MMC in January and all the stuff with my mum has pretty much taken over to the point I'd almost forgotten I'm pregnant! The Harmony test will either put my mind at rest or give me the time I need to prepare myself if it comes back high risk. We will be finding out the sex, mainly because I'd want mum to know, just in case things don't go to plan with her treatment. The MIL has stuck her oar in though and thinks we shouldn't find out! 🙄

AGirlinLondon · 18/07/2018 20:37

Haha @kaytees you got me to a tee! I am trying to spread the purchases over my remaining paydays so starting a bit early.

I wonder if anyone has started to think about when they might go on their mat. I have to tell my work in the next few weeks. I really don’t want to put a date down because I have no idea how I will feel!

AGirlinLondon · 18/07/2018 20:38

@RomPom MILs should just be banned. Banned!

SavanahXx · 18/07/2018 20:43

thank you so much @MagicalCreatures Smile and I know how you feel! I didn't meet my permanent midwife until Monday, and she was very rude, and didn't seem to care about anything I was saying, I tried to tell her I'm so anxious because of my past two MMC and that's why I wanted her to check for a heartbeat but her reply was "yeah well they was in the past, just focus on this pregnancy, 1in4 end up in MC but you seem fine at the minute, Ill check for the HB but cant say everything will be ok tomorrow, this will only tell if you're ok for today" then she pushed my OH out of the whole appointment, then said "he's done his job now, now its just about you". I don't think a midwife should be like that at all, it was damn right rude and very disrespectful, she needed to re think how she said stuff before saying it!! ringing up to change her (even though I don't see another midwife for another two months!!) sorry for the little rant haha. she just very much annoyed me Confused xxx

EnglishIrishRose · 18/07/2018 20:50

Thanks everyone! And @RomPom good to hear you get to spend some time with your Mum before her operation.

I also have no idea what to dress my baby in, when it's going to be so cold!

balalalala · 18/07/2018 21:02

I booked in my maternity leave earlier this week. Stopping at 37.5 weeks this time round, but tagging on 2 weeks of holiday first meaning I finish up at the end of October.

kaytees · 18/07/2018 21:09

@SavanahXx you aren't having a rant, that's perfectly reasonable - sounds like an awful experience for you! I hope you can swap if needed. I had a midwife who was away sick a lot in my first pregnancy and then dismissed my concerns about baby's size (which ended up causing complications) - I wish I'd thought to speak up and ask for a different one!

@AGirlinLondon very wise planning it all out on paychecks. It can definitely feel like there's so much to buy! Re maternity leave I'll aim to go up to 37/38 weeks but am self employed in one of my jobs so the longer the better really!
