WAAAAA - forgot to say (((((((hugs))))))) to SFL and lilkel, thinking of you both xx

bumperlicious · 22/05/2007 06:31

Hey derlor - sorry you are up at such a hideous hour! Glad all went ok with DS, what a trouper! Hope you feel ok.

Sorry to shout, but it has to be done:

THERE ARE NO COMFORTABLE POSITIONS TO SLEEP IN!

How are you all managing? I can no longer sleep on my bck, and each side is ok for about an hour at which point I have to turn over which requires a military operation, repositioning of cushions the baby wakes up feeling pretty p*ssed of at having been disturbed again. How? How can I sleep?

bumperlicious · 22/05/2007 06:46

Btw hi to everyone who hasn't been around for a while,

justbeme, glad you had a nice holiday (v brave of you to even consider leaving you town at this stage!),

hi DKMA, hope all goes well with your consultant re the birth,

and FSG (great name change!) sorry you've not been feeling well. Hope you are better now.

Sputnik, you have really been in the wars lately, I hope you manage to feel better in time for the big day!

trendaverter · 22/05/2007 08:06

Hi All!
Newbie here. I joined because tbh the other mum forums out there were just a little bit too pink and fluffy and 'feel the love' for me, I am a cynical grouch.
I am due June 3rd with number 1, I am the size of a house, I have so many stretch marks I look like a zebra, and whilst I am not nesting I am getting oddly fanatic about buying and freezing chicken 'just in case'. I now have over 40 chicken breasts in my tiny freezer. I know I am odd, this cannot be helped and provides much mirth to my frankly rather exasperated family.

I don't like my midwife AT ALL so I have shunned her in favour of my very lovely doctor, and it doesn't seem to matter how much raspberry tea, pineapple and hot curry I eat, the damn alien will not come out.

I have a peculiar rash on my belly that itches to high heaven which I am assured is fairly common but I don't think so. Going to ask doc tomorrow. But! I don't really suffer with backaches or heartburn or anything.

So, how are you?

FattyNattyThomasandEllen · 22/05/2007 08:20

morning all.. 39+1! 6 days to go!
my last day of internet freedom
so u had better all be online tonight when i come on at 7.30, or else i will never speak to you all EVER again
know what u mean about sleep positions, one pos ur back hurts, the other ur hips hurt, but if u sleep flat ur heartburn starts! ahh!

tom was having nightmares again last night, mum reckons seeing everything being packed up is upsetting him as he too young to understand. sounds likely to me, the house is full of boxes and half his toys have disapeared! lol.

so all in all a very disturbed night, for all of us it seems oh well not long girlies!

BadZelda · 22/05/2007 08:41

ARSEEEEEEE

Is it too much to ask to have an appt with a midwife when I haven't seen one since APRIL 17th? I've got an appt for NEXT tuesday, but that will be SEVEN WEEKS in between appts and the chances of seeing her again before birth are slim considering it took me a MONTH to get next week's appt. This when the midwife told me not to leave it too long next time as my BP was a bit high at the last appointment. Even the bloody GP (who frankly I hate) is completely booked up...though the bitch receptionist from hell did grudgingly say she could book me in with a nurse to have my blood pressure checked...is that before or after SHE HAS DRIVEN IT THROUGH THE ROOF WITH HER UNHELPFUL ATTITUDE. Poor woman - it's probably not her fault...and I'll probably be fine...don't feel bad, and baby is still moving etc...just would be nice to know they're the right way up, BP is fine, etc etc. IS IT TOO BLOODY MUCH TO ASK?

trendaverter · 22/05/2007 08:50

And I thought my witch midwife was bad...at least I can get an appointment (even if I don't particularly want to see her...ever again).
Is there another local GP you can try?
7 weeks takes the piss a bit

FattyNattyThomasandEllen · 22/05/2007 08:57

change ur gp if i were u hun

BadZelda · 22/05/2007 08:58

That's just the point - I could be booked in with another doctor...yet another person I have never met before who knows nothing about me. It would be nice, just once in this pregnancy, to see the same person twice? They'll just make me feel like a hypochondriac for making a fuss about getting an appointment, and as I said I have no particular reason to worry...but as I had DD at 38 weeks part of me wonders if I'll even make it to the next appt!

BadZelda · 22/05/2007 09:08

Why do you hate your midwife TA? You obviously don't live in South London if you've actually met her enough times to dislike her...took me seven months to be assigned to a midwife, who is now too busy to actually see me...(yes, I know I sound like a stuck record).

On the plus side, feeling great...last client meeting yesterday! (no flowers for BZ though...dammit ) and the end of work is in sight...only 3 more days! Hurrah!

BadZelda · 22/05/2007 09:10

Actually do you know what worries me most? I'm booked for a home birth (assuming I'm all healthy and there's no complications) - and so long as I don't have the baby before friday (37 weeks) then I can just go right ahead and phone the midwives to come over and attend...but what if there's none there / they're too busy? This is seeming more and more likely...worried now!

trendaverter · 22/05/2007 09:15

my midwife is a skinny witch with no bedside manner who insists that I am diabetic and keeps sending me off for diabetes tests and telling me I am obese and I mustn't gain any more weight.

I have the diabetes tests. Often. I am not diabetic. Yes my BMI is pretty darn big (35), but I am 8.5 months pregnant. I still walk the dog a mile a day, I eat well, I am healthy, and you know what? yes I am bloody overweight but for shits sake I am hormonal and emotional and if she tells me one more time how obese I am, I am going to take her fragile delicate little head and wedge it up her own sodding stethoscope.

I suppose I am lucky in that I can get an appointment any time I want really, I am in Berkshire and we don't seem to be suffering many of the mw shortages that have been on the news, but after leaving the clinic in tears, sometimes I wish I hadn't seen her at all!
Apparently though there have been lots of complaints about her and now I only see my GP instead (who is an angel)

trendaverter · 22/05/2007 09:17

At my ante-natal classes I was told by a (different) MW that the best way to guarantee you had at least one MW was to arrange a home birth, I was told they are better at accomodating home births than hospital ones, so hopefully you should be ok

BadZelda · 22/05/2007 09:30

Really doesn't sound very helpful or encouraging considering the last thing you need to be doing right now is dieting. She does sound a bit of a witch TA. Well finally occurred to me to call the HB team at the hospital, and they said that they can fit me in on Thurs morning if I go down to KIngs...they were pretty shocked at the length of time since the last appt and quite cross with me. Is it MY fault?

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 09:31

BadZ...sorry for your midwife troubles, sounds like a complete nightmare. My appointments have been planned with military precision and you even get a sheet in the front of your notes saying when they'll be and whether with MW/GP/hosp AN clinic. There are some advantages of staying in the grim and frozen north.

Hi trendaverter......you don't sound odd at all....just our sort of person actually as we're all a bit mad on here (and we're always getting in trouble for dodgy insensitive thread titles nor are we averse to the odd sweary word either as you may have noticed ). When are you due?...your post on the member profile said 2 weeks....we've got a stats thread somewhere, and HollyandAlice is in charge of keeping it updated! We're doing a text buddy thing to notify of birth announcements if your interested.

sounds like a nice break JBM....the calm before the storm. I could do with one of those, but daren't risk it this late in the game.

Derlor...Glad the OP went well...I know what you mean about the weepiness, whn DS had his op I was the one howling as they put him under, its a horrible thing to witness as a parent. I should've logged on in the middle of the night. I woke at 1:30 and that was me until 5:30 . I've also got a poorly boy on my hands. DS has got a chest infection (feeling like ultra crap mummy as it was getting worse all last week and I didn't take him to the docs thinking it was just a bit of a cough) so he's been up in the night feeling sick and miserable and is now wrapped up on the sofa. I think the two of us are going to have a cuddly duvet day.

trendaverter · 22/05/2007 09:33

No not your fault but I guess they are just trying to be firm!
They don't know you from Adam I suppose and perhaps they might see it as your fault rather than one of their own. NHS is never wrong, let's face it

BadZelda · 22/05/2007 09:34

Hah - they should try being firm with the witch receptionist ;)

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 09:38

trendaverter...your MW sounds horrible. I hate the way they pigeonhole everybody. My DHs friend is a big chunky fellow and according to his BMI clinically obese, but he runs half marathons regularly and plays rugby and is fitter and healthier than most of the skinny people I know. I think too much emphasis is placed on BMI these days and it doesn't acount for build etc. Before I got pg mine was 29 which is high, but I'm only a size 14...
...DH bought some body fat monitor scales last year which told me that my body fat % was 50% and that I was clinically obese (a size 14 clinically obese )....they went in the rubbish quick smart, I can tell you

I am due june 3rd but trying to speed it along now...!

I joined Mumsnet (vs bounty/babyworld etc) because I liked the sweary ppl on here, the others had waayyy too much love and pink fluff for me. I didn't think I would fit in really with Babyworld, every time I read threads I was like 'oh my god am I the only person out there that doesn't get a gush of love every time I get sideswiped in the ribs'. After reading some mumsnet threads I realise I am not alone

Mums on here seem more 'normal'.

I must warn though that I am very bored and have nothing better to do than whinge, so if you get sick of the sound of my typing, don't be afraid to tell me to shut up, I am used to it

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 09:42

I wish I could spread my GPs around everybody...they truly are wonderful. You get an appointment usually on the same day and the receptionists are all lovely and friendly, if you don't want to tell them what the problem is, they respect your privacy and book you in anyway (although they are supposed to have some sort of triage system). The longest I've ever had to wait is two days as they only book up half the appointments in advance and use the rest as "emergency" appointments, so if they can't fit you in they tell you to phone in the morning and you get seen that day.

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 09:45

LOL trendaverter...we often come on here and shout AAAARRRRRSSSSSEEEEEE for no other reason than we're bloody fed up . We did start a big fight the other week though for one of our thread titles which referred to our LOs as **s which some people took offence at and said we were nasty, unmaternal ladies who didn't deserve to be pregnant, but...you can't please all of the people all of the time!

OP posts:
bumperlicious · 22/05/2007 09:48

Glad to see we are all full of the joys of spring today!

Hi trendaverter, if you have a bit of a trawl through the previous June threads you will see that we are generally articulate, very funny (if I do say so myself) lovely ladies. But we have all just got to the stage where we just want to shout AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSEEEEEE! Then sit and cry, and eat.

Btw, I forgot to tell you guys, I was at my antenatal class last night and the MW was talking about sex and prostaglandins initiating labour and I asked her whether or not it was a myth that they were more effective if "administered orally"?! You should have seen DH's face - don't know if he was more embarrassed or disappointed that she said said she didn't think it was the case and proably a myth!

bumperlicious · 22/05/2007 09:48

Lol cross posts daisy! Obviously we are very predictable!

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 09:56

PMSL Bumper ....I can imagine the look on peoples faces.

You forgot to say we sit and cry, and eat....chocolate, ice cream, more chocolate and do'nuts!

bumperlicious · 22/05/2007 09:57

Funny you should say that, I am currently enjoying B&J chocolate fudge brownie ice cream for my breakfast!
