I can hear DS jumping around on the sofa....as soon as I appear he'll lie back and moan pathetically....men, they're all the same with illness aren't they, no matter what age they are!

I'll dip in and out today....off to be Florence Nightingale

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 09:58

LOL, I've just had two fun size mars bars , but in my defense I did have toast first!

bumperlicious · 22/05/2007 10:08

Chuh! 2 funsize? Come back to me when you have eaten two kingsize - then I will give you mucho respect!

Better go, dr's appointment in a bit so have to have a shower. Off to visit a friend this afternoon for the night. It's a two hour drive and worrying a bit about it as back aches so much and manic with lack of sleep. Will just have to make a couple of pit stops.

Mmmmm, ice cream for breakfast helps. I would recommended it to everyone.

Catch you guys later, hope we haven't scared you off yet TA!

trendaverter · 22/05/2007 10:11

OMG I got in so much trouble at my last ante natal class, we had a BF counsellor in who was showing us what was in breast milk and was pouring it into this big bowl, ie, water, sugar, fat etc, but then she pours in this vial of blue glitter to represent 'the magic of breast milk', of course I piss myself laughing and ask if we have to sample it, only my GP has told me to lay off blue glitter for a while as I am apparently obese.

I am clearly not maternal and undeserving. Oopsy!

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 10:19

LOL at the blue glitter.....I think my reaction would have been the same!

Lasted 15 mins of "mummy....I'm hungry. Mummy.....I'm thristy. mummy....mummy....." Gah..... This Florence Nightingale malarkey is hard work...

ooooh...looks like another 3 May babies are on their way!!

Morning all,
Hope everyone is feeling better this morning - seems like we are all suffering in one way or another.
Fun and games last night where i ended up in A&E with a farking nosebleed!
Have been getting them often whilst pg but this one was quite spectacular - a gushing fountain of blood that lasted 2 hours
As i'm anaemic i was worried about the amount of blood loss so DH called NHS Direct who suggested we go straight to A&E.
They were actually really good and saw me quite quickly - the fact that i was now passing blood clots in the waiting room seemed to help!
Ended up having to get the inside of my nostril cauterised to stop the blood (not painful AT ALL!)and didn't get home til 1am. Then NO SLEEP as i was in pain (Nose, pelvis, ribs, back, and couldn't breathe at all.
Am totally shagged now and will have to try and get a nap in later this pm after my scan.

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 10:38

kittykit....sounds like an eventful evening and restless night. I hope you can get some rest today. Wrap up well and stay under the duvet

...and good luck with the scan!

Thanks Daisy!
Will let you know how i get on later..
LOL on the mars bars for brekfast, i'm off to Tesco now to get some donuts. Can't stop thinking about them after you mentioned them!

notsolilKel · 22/05/2007 11:09

hello everyone & welcome to the madness TA...

just a quickie as I should resume resting up. Am at home after my second slightly panicky hospital visit. Would feel like biggest loser and false labour alarmist ever, but actually quite like the comfort of extra monitoring, considering the probs DS had after he was born. If I were some kind of no-hosp martyr, I'd never have found out I'm quite anaemic. Now I can deal with it, and get ready, because Friday morning it's all systems GO!

Belated happy b-day to H&A!! Natty hoping you are coping well and the baby cooperates with your house move!!

Oh and for itching I found calendula cream to be effective. It's homeopathic so no worries there.

ROFL at all the spag & meatballs going on as well. What is it with meatballs?

RedFraggle · 22/05/2007 11:11

Hi everyone - sorry I'm such a sporadic visitor - in the process of organising a housemove (aaargh - why would we do this now, why?) so bit pre-occupied and should be packing...
I'm so sorry about the hospital visit Kitty, hope you are feeling better now.

Ria butter - I've been like this too. They couldn't tell me for sure what it is, possibly because I'm a little bit anaemic, have a cold, not eating enough (basically - they have no clue) Sympathy to you though!!

I'm very excited today as I'm off to the hospital this afternoon to get my section date!! Yay! I will know when my baby will making an appearance!

Trendaverter re the blue glitter - I too would have been smirking and laughing like a teenager. I cannot deal with all the gooiness! You could have asked if it represented the cracked skin falling off mum's nipples....

sputnik · 22/05/2007 11:31

Hi all, what a nightmare Kittykit, I've been getting the odd nosebleed, nothing like that though.
Trendaverter, welcome, you sound like exactly our kind of person LOL at the blue glitter fgs. According to threads on here the "magic ingredient" is really white blood cells, ie pus, she probably didn't want to mention that! (I am very pro bf by the way, before anyone gets the wrong idea, and fed my DD pus for far longer than is socially acceptable )

sputnik · 22/05/2007 11:35

Was wondering about you Lilkel, if they were keeping you in til friday. Hope the headaches are over with and you have all ready so you can rest up and prepare.

bumperlicious · 22/05/2007 11:39

Glad you are ok kel - make the most of all the being looked after.

Ouch for you kittykit - sounds awful. Hope it's not too painful anymore.

TA - glitter? Seriously? Retch! I was really shocked at our antenatal class as the MW said they are not actually allowed to discuss FF at the classes at all. No agenda to push there then!

Just finished my B&J off. God it's better than anything the dr can proscribe!

trendaverter · 22/05/2007 11:39

I am bored of the whole breast vs bottle thing, I will no doubt rile someone here as it seems to be a topic of much passion, but really... what with midwives, doctors, everyone going on about it (they are even going on about it RIGHT NOW on itv) yawn

I hope to bf, but you know what, if I struggle so much it leaves me in tears day in day out, I'd rather switch to the bottle and have a happy mother than a happy MW/GP/ITV presenter.

I was bottle fed...and apart from the odd twitches and psychosis episodes I seem to be ok

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 11:41

hi Lilkel, glad you're back with us, if only for a short time....how long are you in for afterwards? After my em c-section I checked out after two days as I couldn't get any rest, but in hind sight I should have stayed in longer. I know it's a bit different with an elective, so I thought three nights max and then home to bed...I felt the need to be out and about very early on with DS (part of my I'm super single mum thing I had going on) This time, I'm taking all the time I can get to babymoon.

hi Sputnik...are you feeling better? How long did you BF then? Is it more socially acceptable in Italy, or less?

hi RedFraggle...another house mover...you must be mad. Will you be settled in before the bub is born, or moving with a new born in tow?

OP posts:
trendaverter · 22/05/2007 11:43

hahaha bumper YES!

Same - They spent over an hour and a half talking tits and then literally 5 minutes talking bottle.

I feel sorry for mums that can't, frankly the whole thing is ridiculous.

Before someone starts harping on about the olden days before formula, in the 'olden days' there were wet nurses and raising babies was shared by the neanderthal community, they all pitched in. Not that I was there or anything, but I heard it somewhere lol

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 11:44

That sounds like a very healthy attitute TA....I put myself through hell with DS and no-one suggested FF to me until he was nearly six weeks old. It was a real turning point in our relationship, but I did feel very guilty about the change. This time, like you, I'll see how it goes and give it my best shot, but have no qualms about switching to FF if its not going well!

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 11:45

We're all a bit pro-choice on here, so no arguments from any quarter

OP posts:
trendaverter · 22/05/2007 11:48

Daisy - what a relief, I am tired of people pushing ideals on to me. I already feel inadequate enough as it is!
ppl on here seem very level headed and decent really

RedFraggle · 22/05/2007 11:51

Hi Daisy, I will be moving with a new born and toddler in tow. This wasn't how we planned it - just took us longer to sell than we expected...
My parents have kindly offered to let us stay with them for a few weeks so my dad and husband can decorate the main areas, children's bedrooms etc prior to our proper arrival. Think that idea is sounding better and better by the minute!

I was another one who raced out of hospital after my emcs. I lasted 2 nights and then was so tired because of all the disturbances that I was actually crying with lack of sleep. Practically self-discharged as the midwives were not impressed at me leaving so soon. Having an elective this time and will play it by ear. I did get more rest at home though last time and DH was around to help me out too. Only difference this time is bouncy two year old...

TA - I'm totally with you on the BF thing. There is a limit to how much pressure new mums ought to be put under. I BF DD for almost 6 months and never really enjoyed it - I did it out of a sense of duty. It was ok but when I think of the pain and bleeding nipples etc that I put up with in order to do it... Well not this time! I'm going to give it a good bash but if it doesn't work out I am not going to sit around crying and feeling like crap when there is an alternative.
I too was solely FF as a baby and am fine. (I think...)

DaisysGotABigBump · 22/05/2007 11:55

Sounds like a week or so at your mums would be just the ticket RedFraggle....it's good that you have that option open to you. I think I'll see how it goes with my section and how I feel. DS is at school now thankfully, so at least days will be quiet and DH can do the school run. He's going to arrange two weeks off and a further couple of weeks working from home so that'll help enormously. that'll take us pretty much to the end of term as well, so by the time DS goes back to school after the hols I should have a pretty good routine up and running!

OP posts:
RedFraggle · 22/05/2007 12:00

It's good that your DS is at school - it will give you a bit of time to adjust to the new baby. i think I'm still in denial! So much else is going on that it is sometimes a shock to think that I am about to have a baby! lol!

DD is in nursery one day a week, so I will have a little time too. DH is planning to take his paternity leave and a weeks hols and then take extra days off as needed. I'm sur eit will be fine (optimistic and deluded emoticons needed)

BadZelda · 22/05/2007 12:06

I'm wondering if I should look into a nursery for DD one day a week, as I want her to keep getting lots of social interaction now that we've stopped the babyswap for the moment (for RF and TA...swapping with a couple of other mums with toddlers 1 day a week, so we all get to look after each other's kids and get time off). Having dealt with up to 4 kids at once every week for a year (usually 3 though) I'm not SOOOO freaked out at thought of number 2 child as I probably would be otherwise...still guess it's completely different with a toddler and baby, and haven't been full time mum for quite a while now as I've been working part-time. Should be interesting...

derlor · 22/05/2007 12:06

Hi Trendaverter - nice to meet you as already said by a couple of folk you'll fit in very well here - one thing we are not is FLUFFY!!!!!
well DS is not great unfortunately and we are waiting for a call to se if he has to go back into hospital he can't focus at all and gets all dizzy and sick every time he opens his eyes - so now he just won't open them!! GP on his way out to see him. He has managed to eat a slice of toast though so at least that's something.
i got back to sleep from about 6am till 8.30 so had about 5 hours in total.
Bumper i'm with you on the whole turning over in bed thing i'm thinking of getting a crane installed to haul me over during the night also it is impossible to turn over without a major loud OOOOFFFFF coming out my gob!
Daisy hope your LO is better soon x
now i'm off to be Florence Nightengale (oh the pressures!!!)
Later x
